Shrimp tastes fresh and panko breading on tomatoes was perfectly cooked. The bread basket had corn bread, pumpkin bread squares but the real gem were the Johnny cakes. Ate dinner here during Spring break. An hour wait was frustrating since there were 50% of the tables not even occupied inside and out while we waited for a table. Parking is also not an easy task. Small parking lot with very tight parking areas. Service was good, food was mediocre, prices were high for quality of food. Indoor an outdoor seating but be ready for a wait even if not busy. This was my first time at Aunt Kate's, but it won't be the last! This is a great place to grab a seafood basket (oyster, shrimp, other types of fish, etc.), sit outside to enjoy a beautiful day, and grab a cold beverage. On this visit, I had an oyster basket with fries and an iced tea along with great service from Ashley and a beautiful waterfront view. Wanting to be closest to the water, I grabbed a shaded picnic table by the water line, they also have a spacious patio area and plenty of indoor seating. My husband suggested this place for lunch and I am glad he did because it is located on the water in Vilano Beach and the food was pretty good too. We sat outside along the water at a picnic table and had a big umbrella to shield us from the sun. The menu offers plenty of appetizers, salads, fried seafood baskets, sandwiches and entrees. I had the fried flounder club sandwich. It came on Texas toast with cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and onion. One side is also included so I chose sweet potato fries. As a retired military guy and local, I can say without a doubt Aunt Kate's has the best "St Augustine" (fried) style shrimp. They are prepared butterfly, fried, and they are seasoned and cooked to perfection every time. I have traveled extensively and they are the best fried shrimp ever! Views were wonderful for sunset and a great place to watch for dolphins. I got the blackened mahi sandwich and it was so salty it was almost impossible to eat. The inside is simple, but the back deck has a really nice setup with a great view and live music to set the mood. The white she crab soup/chowder was definitely the highlight of the meal. It was rich, creamy, and packed with flavor, it was hands down the star of the show. The coconut shrimp with the sweet orange/piña colada dipping sauce was also a big hit, and a real treat! We also shared the crab cakes (which were tasty), the Ahi tuna nachos (not my favorite, I would not get again), and the Mahi sandwich, which was fresh and satisfying. This place has such a lovely setting and the food is decent but the presence of birds and squirrels running around wild, flying right over the tables and landing on them ready to swoop down onto your plate is extremely unpleasant and unhygienic. The staff are pleasant but unless they get a grip on this situation, I won't be back. It's unfortunate because I do enjoy the setting. First time having steamed oysters and the half bucket was great! Also had the alligator bites which were very small and dry. The French fries cut is very large if that matters to anyone. The scallops were cooked very nicely, but could've benefited from more blackening seasoning. The rice and beans were good, but benefited from the house made hot sauce. We ate staying at North Beach campground so we decided to walk from our site to this restaurant. We have been here before and enjoyed the food. We ordered fried green tomatoes for any appetizer and along with our drinks a carphania and a margarita. Both great. They also brought out a bread basket with sweet cornbread spice bread and other breads. Our meals came out , hunny ordered the dish tacos with collards and hush puppies. We were staying in the North Beach Campground and walked over to this restaurant. We both had shrimp, I had the coconut shrimp and it was lightly breaded and very good. My wife had the shrimp basket and chose fried and it too was lightly breaded and also was very good. Make sure to get the free bread it was very good as well. We never even tried the food. My family and I spent 25 minutes waiting for a server to come to our table. We saw servers walking by to nearby tables and no one came by to even offer us water. After 25 minutes, we got up and left. I will never return to this place. There are plenty of restaurants in the area with probably better food that we can try. read more

We ended up taking advantage of the happy hour but the drinks were not all that good. We also ordered fried green tomato's to start and they were fairly good. We got wings, the Cobb salad, crab cakes and the seafood platter. Everything was just okay, nothing amazing but good. The service was strange, our server was a bit passive agreement with us and we couldn't really tell what he was trying to do. But we sat outside and it was a lovely view. The food was fine, our waitress told us there was no soda. The machine was down, so she brought us water to our table in our cups. When we got back to our house, we were told on the news there was a boil ordinance for this area, I called and talked to the manager. He told us that he went and bought jugs of water, but he got irate when I told him I also am a licensed water operator in this water was not store-bought, he hung up on me. We have been wanting to stop in and check this place out while in the area, it's definitely a five star location, what a beautiful restaurant sitting on the river bank. We arrived late morning on Saturday and it was packed with customers, they had some kind of themed event going on but we decided to enter from the porch and immediately found an empty bar inside so we grabbed a few stools after being greeted by the bartender. She dropped off a few menus and we ordered drinks - after reading a few reviews from my fellow Yelpers we decided to stick with a cocktail and an appetizer- I asked for a recommendation and she volunteered that the gator is popular but its frozen from a box but the coconut fried shrimp are fresh and hand breaded in house and served with an orange sauce. The margarita was really good and packs a punch even without a floater, the draft beer was cold but served in a plastic cup so drink up, in my opinion this place needs a giant outdoor tiki bar (I may have never left). I definitely made a great choice picking the coconut fried shrimp which I rarely choose, this was an amazing appetizer and a very generous portion of large butterflied shrimp served hot from the kitchen with a citrus orange sauce which was delicious. The service at the bar was really good, the bar tender engaged us in some positive conversation during our entire stay. Cute place! We almost missed it. It's down at the very end of road in the middle of nowhere. It's big though! Lots of seating; inside and out. Lots of parking. It's right on the water. There's a pier and a boat ramp, too. Our server was super nice. She was attentive without being overly so. She was great! The pork was ok... but it was covered in sauce. The menu said it was smoked in house. We tend to like smoked pulled pork that doesn't need a bunch of sauce on it. So it was just fine. The beans and rice were really good! Fish tacos. These were amazing! Some of the best fish tacos I've ever had! So mild but seasoned well. It comes with a chipotle ranch type sauce along with typical fish taco toppings. They were so darn good! Kids cheese quesadilla. It was a good little quesadilla! Simple but tasty! I had Aunt Kate's on my mind, so on my way home from my stay in Vilano Beach for three days, I came by here for a delicious shrimp lunch. The highlight of my visit was ANDREW! I am so glad he waited on me. He did a great job in making me feel comfortable and I never wanted for any. He brought anything I needed, before I had to ask him. He is a true asset to this Restaurant. The ambiance and sitting outside on the water is always a plus. I love the music they play. Sometimes they have a Musician performing here on the outside deck. We had a friend waiting for a table who was told we could be seated as soon as our party came inside. By the time we came in from parking - our table was given away. It was too hot for outdoor seating on this 95F day, so we chose indoor with the cool air conditioning. Wait staff is friendly and fast. Interior is clean. We were served a complimentary bread basket of cornbread, Johnny cakes, and pumpkin spice and all three were so comforting and yummy! The pumpkin spice reminded me of gingerbread though I'm not sure if there's actually ginger in it. Great breads all the same. My main course was St. Augustine Shrimp. I chose broiled and it was presented scampi style in a garlic butter sauce. Shrimp was perfectly cooked, juicy and plump. My sides of collard green and pickled beets were also as scrumptious! My husband ordered the Mahi Sandwich and it was amazing! Blackened Mahi on rye with swiss cheese and coleslaw. Like a Reuben with Mahi! What a spectacular sandwich. Absolutely perfect. My husband's ribs were tender, moist, and tasty. Not a smoked bbq sauce, different, but delicious. Black beans and rice were spiced perfectly...neither hot nor bland. The veg medley was a delicious mix of squashes and zucchini. My oysters were tender and meaty. Not greasy and the tarter sauce had a hint of a dill which made it unique. Our waitress, Megan, was friendly and attentive but not intruding. Every time we needed something (more water) she just appeared. Checked on us twice to discover we were happy. This is our second time here, first time was a drink by boat. The views from the back patio are exceptional, the inside is your standard fried fish restaurant. For drinks, we ordered their IPA available and the Uncle Dave's lemonade (very refreshing). The kitchen was extremely slow....extremely. With that being said, our server (Miley) was excellent, kind to our daughter, and brought us table bread while we waited. Once we got the food, it was honestly better than I expected. The fried mushroom appetizer was one of the best fried mushrooms we've had. For dinner, we had the blackened fish tacos (yum!) and the blackened fish sandwich (also yum!).
