Hard to recommend this one. The food is basic breakfast at above-average prices, and nothing on the plate justifies the markup -- the biscuits were dry enough that we needed to ask for gravy mid-meal, and even that simple request got deprioritized while our server chatted with other customers. The service showed a real lack of knowledge and attentiveness. When I ordered whole milk for my coffee, the response was essentially "is half and half okay?" -- no, it is absolutely not okay. These are completely different in taste and calories, and it's not a reasonable substitute to casually suggest. What made it worse: oat milk, almond milk, and whole milk were all visibly sitting in the fridge right there from where I was seated at the bar. Zero effort to offer what was clearly available. The atmosphere didn't help either. The space feels like someone started building a café concept and never finished thinking it through. It's uninviting, disorganized, and oddly off -- not warm, not designed with the customer in mind. Nothing about the food, the presentation, or the space gives you a reason to choose this place over anywhere else. Not particularly tasty, not nicely decorated, not a vibe. Very very long wait on a weekend. They don't do reservations or call aheads. We arrived at 9:45 and had to wait about an hour for our table for 6 people. The staff were very kind and attentive to our needs like coffee refills! I like that the coffees had unlimited refills (iced coffee and a hot drip coffee were the coffee options). I ordered the breakfast burrito with the additions of the pork sausage, red chili sauce, cheese, and scallions. It was very good! It did come out a bit cold so I think it may have been sitting for a little while on the window. My friend's Zada Jane's stack was pretty good as well. The sweet potatoes were cooked perfectly and the frittata hit the spot. I wasn't a fan of the peach butter for the biscuit but we definitely could've asked for a different type of butter but chose not to. I'll start by saying this is probably the best breakfast burrito I've ever had. The parking lot is tinyyyy. The restaurant is tinyyyyy. St. Augustine is a busy place. Therefore, this gets a long wait for breakfast/brunch. It's hard to get a parking spot but there's free parking across the street. They have a big waiting area next to the restaurant which is definitely needed as we ended up waiting like 45 minutes around 9:30 am on a Saturday. The food was definitely worth the wait though. I got the burrito smothered with sauce and cheese and the flavor was fantastic. Flavorful but not super spicy or anything. It's also HUGE. Highly recommend. Service is a little questionable, if it was quicker they could probably help with their long wait. Stopped into Blue Hen for breakfast before exploring downtown St. Augustine and I was so glad I did! The restaurant itself is very unique and inviting. The calm and friendly atmosphere certainly reflects the staff and management - as everyone was extremely kind, helpful, and welcoming. For food, my wife and I got a bit carried away but it was worth it! I ended up ordering their 2 chicken biscuit breakfast with a side of eggs and cheese grits while my wife got their breakfast burrito. We thought we were going to stop there but we couldn't pass up the opportunity to try their pumpkin pancakes - so we ordered two of those as well. The portions sizes were perfect and definitely worth the cost! Literally we finished everything and it kept us full throughout the rest of the day until dinner. And as for the taste -Everything was delicious! The chicken biscuits were crispy yet juicy and were served with a peach butter cream that was mouthwatering. My wife said her breakfast burrito was jam packed with toppings and was one of the best breakfast burrito she has had. And finally the pumpkin pancakes- AMAZING! If we still had room we would have ordered more. The food is excellent, elevated breakfast fare. The service is a team effort (my coffee as never empty) and impeccable. The atmosphere is casual and unique...part diner, part family breakfast. The pumpkin pancake was fantastic. The butter unique and syrup, delicious. The guacamole slices atop my vegetable Omlette was a genius accent, the Omlette itself perfect, the biscuit fantastic, and best of all was their potatoes. Since we were at the bar, I had to look into the kitchen to see if I could figure out what made these so good. They're not pre-cooked or baked potatoes, put in whole, fried to the exact right amount and seasoned perfectly. We'll be back. Got to the Blue Hen on a Saturday just past 9am. We were told 20 minutes wait and gave our party of 3 coffee which was billed later. We were sat down at 20 minutes. Very hot outside and drinking coffee we were brought inside. We asked for water and the cups with ice were kid sizes. They were busy so we had to wait for a refill. They should invest on a pitcher of water for the table. The food was brought very quickly. All the waitresses were young and beautiful there and did a great job. The pumpkin pancakes were good but not awesome. The grits and burrito were awesome. The breakfast sandwich was just okay. We have been coming for years still the best spot in my opinion. We arrived at the cusp of their breakfast shifting to lunch menu, and we opted for the lunch menu as it still had some solid breakfast options. Being from CA I had to try the fried green tomatoes and they did not disappoint with the homemade ranch and black bean salsa. This was my first introduction to true Floridian Southern food. We had a pretty huge group of 13, so make a note of that if you come for brunch, you will have to wait. We didn't mind though as there was a little market across the street for us to walk and get coffee at. We waited at least 40min. One of the best breakfast restaurants we have had the pleasure of dining in. Hands down an overall great experience and this will become a staple when we visit or drive anywhere near here and they are open. We stayed in Lincolnville at an Air B&B, so the walk was 1 block to get there- which was lovely. We got there at 8:45am on a Friday after Christmas and the wait was 30 minutes. It immediately went to 45 minutes after I put my name in and within 10 minutes was at an hour wait. And I will tell you- only 1 couple walked away upset at the wait time. Everyone else braved the 42 degree weather and stood outside waiting patiently. We were all there to experience the greatness of the Blue Hen breakfast. And it was worth the wait! Quick and friendly service. We got coffee and tea. The entrees were all hot and superb. We all agreed to come back for breakfast again before we left town we loved it so much. I also wanted to buy the hot sauce they offered in the table (Cowgills). We excitedly planned our next visit to the Blue Hen and unbeknownst to us, they would be closed on NYE. I was so disappointed when I got there at 8am Sunday morning to an empty storefront and a sign on the door. Oh well. We will be back. I know we will. This place is worth the drive and the wait. Park in the small lot on Kings Ferry (only a few parking spots) or there is on street parking in the neighborhood. Just don't park along the yellow curb or in front of driveways or posted signs. Lincolnville is a fabulous area to stay also if you are visiting St. Augustine. Walkable to historic district and many fabulous restaurants (Fish Camp, Ice Plant). read more

Every time we are in st. Augustine We have to dine here ! This place is a must for breakfast. Here is what we ordered and will continue to order every time we come here. Their chicken biscuit is to die, for we usually will do it with eggs or potatoes. What I love to do is take the top off one of the biscuits and spread the peach butter. They provide you with then the other half. I put the hot sauce on top and eat the chicken and biscuit. I tried their guava mimosa that was delicious as well.
