Catch 27 - St. Augustine, FL Came to St. Augustine with a group and Catch 27 was suggested for dinner. Great choice. I checked the Yelp reviews ahead of time and it definitely lived up to them. People in our group started with drinks and everyone at the table seemed happy with what they ordered. I had the red wine braised beef brisket for my main and it was excellent, very tender and full of flavor. My friend Damon next to me had the red snapper and I tried some of that too. Also very good. Someone else at the table had the Rockefeller crusted snapper and that looked and tasted great as well. For appetizers, I had the shaved pear and blue cheese salad. It was really good and honestly enough for two people to share as an appetizer. People at the table also ordered the Devils on Horseback and liked them. I do not eat bacon, but they were happy with that dish. The deviled eggs with southern fried oysters looked really good, and I had the smoked salmon spread, which was very good too. I also saw the shrimp and grits come out for someone else and that dish looked excellent. For dessert, I had the sticky toffee pudding and it was a strong finish to the meal. Others at the table ordered the seasonal crème brûlée, which was chocolate that night. It looked great and everyone who had it said it was very good. Sunny was our waitress and she did an exceptional job. Attentive, kind, and on top of everything the whole night. More like a 3.5 but I'm rounding up - we came here for Valentine's Day, so I do want to take that into account of our experience. There was no one at hostess stand because system was down and they were having troubles which I felt bad for the hostess who seemed stressed on obviously a busy night. They were out of both of the entrees we wanted, which was unfortunate but I ended up getting the catch beurre blanc and it was delicious. I ordered a sangria but our drinks took a very long time to come out, after our appetizer (crab, an heirloom tomato bruschetta which was yummy and more filling than regular bruschetta!) Overall, the food was really good and waitress was nice, but water was never refilled and everything took a really long time to come out. Would love to try it again on a regular night and hopefully they have the entrees we wanted to try:) read more

Short and sweet, just go! At first it's super unassuming. You see the price tag, and look at the place, and you think it's a run of the mill tourist trap. It's not. Every drink I had was well balanced. Strong when it had to be, or tame when the drink required it. My Holiday Rec here is the Winter Negroni. All year round drink The Conquistadors Dilemma. My partner had their Ginger mocktail and it was really nice. The food. I will do a disclaimer here. When I eat at places like these I like try the signature or the plate I may find hard to get somewhere else. I got the Minorcan stew. It was almost like Grandma's. Seafoodies dream. If you are a person that cannot stand the briney smell and taste of certain seafood this is not the plate for you. There is a difference between the smell of spoiled seafood over a seafood stew. For me its was amazing. I had the recommended Oyster Deviled eggs and these were amazing. I could have just had that alone for dinner. My partner ordered the blackened chicken pasta dish and fingerling truffle potatoes. She said the pasta dish was a bit bland, but the chicken was moist. We have been to Saint Augustine a few times, but we hadn't dined at Catch 27 on our most recent trip. We chose it because one of the restaurants had gluten-free options for my wife, who is celiac. They are also one of the few spots we have been to that offer southern fried oysters with a gluten-free batter, fried in a separate fryer. Now, they don't offer it separately. They come with the deviled eggs appetizer, where they place a southern-fried oyster on top, and it's fantastic. It's incredibly wonderful, allowing us to live our best lives. For an entree, we split the Florida Shrimp Risotto, which was excellent and very satisfying. For dessert, we went for the chocolate crème brûlée, which was exquisite and left the palate incredibly satisfied. Do note that the chocolate crème brûlée came with cookies that were not gluten free, but they were separated from the serving dish the former came in, so nothing was contaminated. Cocktail-wise, I enjoyed orders like the Lavender Haze and the Bitter End. Both were excellent choices, with the former being gin-based, and the latter resembling more of a Negroni. We started of with the 27 trio because I was craving chips. I thought the pico was average, but the pimento cheese was delicious. They also brought us extra chips after we finished the initial serving. For entrees, we got the catch beurre blanc and blackened pasta. The mahi was perfectly cooked, and the sides complimented the fish beautifully. You MUST get the blackened pasta. The shrimp was tender and juicy, and the pasta was creamy and exactly what I was craving on a cold night. We thought the proteins were just a tad on the salty side, however. Our waiter, Josh, was also fantastic! Very attentive and had such a positive demeanor. We didn't sit by the bar, but from what we saw, the bartender seemed super friendly, as well. We visited catch 27 on a Monday evening for dinner. We sat outside in their lovely patio with my hound dog. Everyone was very welcoming. We started with the fried oyster deviled eggs, which were very good! I love a deviled egg and they nailed it here. I felt that the sauce on the bottom wasn't strictly necessary though. The oyster was crispy and it worked pretty well. I had the red snapper Rockefeller and it was actually perfect. The asparagus was great, the potatoes were awesome, and the sauce was a perfect compliment to a nicely cooked fish. My companion got the catch beurre blanc, and it was a little less impressive. The sauce didn't have as much flavor as it could've, and the sweet potato purée didn't quite pair well with the lemon caper profile. The creme brûlée was alright. I generally prefer a brûlée that has a singular disc of brûlée across the top as opposed to the kind of granules that this one had. At the end of the day, it was just okay. We had a great meal overall and the service was really good. This is my second time at catch and it confirmed my suspicion: this place is consistent and delicious. Catch 27 is unassuming but the food is very good. Sat downstairs in the dining area which is small in scale but does have more rom than it appears. There is a bar in this area as well. Our server was great and he did a nice job with the menu and making recommendations. I had an old fashioned to start and it was made very well. Just the right mix and not too sweet. I had to try the roasted butternut and coconut bisque and that was the right decision. It was delicious! The toasted pumpkin seeds really made the dish. For the entree I had the braised brisket and it was so tender and flavorful. I will definitely be back to try more dishes. read more

Last night (Friday, 4/10/26) I called the restaurant around 6:15 to ask about the wait time for a party of six. I got an automated system that sent me a link to make a reservation, but it also said tables were reserved for walk-ins. The first available reservation was at 8 pm, so we headed to the restaurant to check it out. When I arrived, hostess #1 said outside seating was available for my group of six, but she did not offer to seat me at a table immediately. I waited at the entrance for the rest of my party to arrive and watched others get seated. When my friends and family arrived about 20 minutes later, hostess #2 advised there were no tables available unless a reservation was canceled. Hostess #1 was no where to be seen. It felt like a bait and switch. Very frustrating, especially since I tried calling ahead. There's no parking at the restaurant, so we had to park and walk 15 minutes. I really wanted to like this restaurant due to the menu choices and positive reviews. Sadly the food fell short. The inside is very small and we were seated in the loud bar area. Not what we were expecting for a nicer place. The decor doesn't match the prices. Our server informed us that their portions are on the generous side. We didn't find this to be the case at all. My husband ordered the Marsala scallops and it arrived with three small scallops and mostly vegetables. He found it very expensive at $49! My fish special was just okay. Nothing great and on the small side as well. On the plus side my sangria was delicious. Overall, we would not come back as we found it overpriced and not worth the hype. The patio is beautiful and the string lights add a magic touch. The restaurant itself is beautiful. We followed the server through the patio and up the stairs to the balcony... which sounds great, right?? But sadly we were seated at the very end of the balcony, squished in a corner at a folding table... We asked to be moved, but they were packed and there was no where else for us. Had a wonderful anniversary dinner with my wife and our three teenagers. Outdoor seating was very welcoming and the space heaters took the chill off of the crisp January evening. Service was excellent and attentive but not intrusive. My son who usually only wants a burger enjoyed the grits with grilled chicken, although he let us finish the collard greens and okra which were both very good classic southern flare. The 27 salad with shrimp added was excellent. The salmon dinner was outstanding with sweet potatoes that were light and sweet just like homemade. Butternut squash soup was fantastic light and airy and we were trying to figure out how to accomplish the same whipped texture at home! We had a wonderful time and the service was very friendly and accommodating, yet firm to let us know of our time limit since we arrived a little late due to parking and bridge lifting. I got the shrimp and grit cakes. Such an amazing dish. I don't even like greens so I knew I may have to begrudgingly eat them. But they were amazing. Best greens I've ever had. We were staying in town at the Hilton Hotel for a staycation and my husband found this restaurant near the hotel with good reviews. I am so glad he did because we had a fantastic dinner there tonight. They have both indoor and outdoor patio seating but I think everyone eating there tonight was sitting outside. The ambiance outside is great with soft music and soft lights. The menu offers about ten appetizers and ten entrees. We split the tapas board for an appetizer. It had almonds, olives and hummus on it and was very tasty. For my entree I went with the brisket and was very happy I did. The meat was so tender and I was able to eat it with only a fork. It also came with fingerling potatoes and asparagus. It was a delicious dish. My husband had the blackened fish beurre blanc. It came with a sweet potato puree and broccolini. He also loved his meal. I would describe our entrees (roasted chicken and beef brisket) as satisfactory- which does not justify the prices. My roasted chicken had a nice flavor, but it was very mild. It was dry and accompanied by the saddest Brussel sprouts that looked boiled and not appetizing at all, though I still ate them. The sweet potato puree helped improve the dryness of the chicken, but was also lacking in flavor. Similarly, my husband's brisket was dry and lacking flavor (I could not taste the chimichurri at all), although it was tender. The haricot verts were tasteless and waxy. We both finished our entrees, so they weren't bad, but there was just nothing memorable about them. The best part of the meal was the chocolate orange chess pie for dessert...which is not made in-house according to their website. On a positive note, the ambiance is really nice if you sit outside. The patio has lovely lighting and we could hear a band playing great music nearby, though it wasn't too loud. Minorca Clam Chowder: stew-like consistency, filled with chunks of extremely overcooked potatoes that were disintegrating. Flavor was decent but the texture was hard to ignore. Didn't get a single clam. Salmon Spread: is really a bowl of mayo and chunks of cream cheese with a few pieces of salmon inside... even the crostini seemed like stale bread. I am a vegetarian but I make sure I visit Catch 27 every time I visit St. Augustine. Catch 27 offers both indoor and outdoor seating, but without a reservation, I doubt you will find a table during usual dinner hours. It is deservedly a very popular place! On my most recent visit, I had a 6:30pm dinner reservation. My companion and I arrived on time and were seated within 30 seconds. The hostess was charming, efficient and attentive, as were all of the staff members with whom I interacted or observed. There is a noticeable un-Floridian sophistication to the team and it is refreshing to experience it. As noted above, I do not eat meat, but I have never had any challenges eating at Catch 27. My companion and I started with a trio of dips (avocado, pico and something very cheesy but surprisingly light) served with tortilla chips. Having already walked about 15 miles around the area by the time we got to dinner, we needed little prompting to devour the appetizer. It was very simple, very good, and executed just a simple appetizer should be executed. We knew what we wanted and that is exactly what we got. We washed down our appetizer, and the entrees that followed, with a pitcher of sangria. It was delightfully flavorful and refreshing. The bartender made the sangria fresh and I wish I could recite everything he put into the carafe, but at some point, I felt I was watching a chemist at work and just gave up. So many bottles and jiggers! For my entree, I thoroughly enjoyed a summer risotto. The risotto was well prepared and delicately seasoned. It included summer squash and corn in the risotto itself, and was served with fresh asparagus. The asparagus was the star, but the other vegetables provided a nuanced sweetness to the dish. My wife and I were looking for a place to have a quiet anniversary dinner and decided to come to Catch 27. Some of the reasons: many places are closed on Mondays (but not Catch 27), the menu looked good, it was centrally located. In terms of location, Catch 27 is in an ideal spot for the tourist crowd and I'm sure they reap the benefits from that. There is a largish outside seating area, which is probably great for evening once the sun as slid a bit past the trees. We had a reservation for an inside table. The dining room inside is small and simple but effective. The walls are painted in sea to sky horizon, which I think is beautiful and subtle. My wife ordered a glass of white wine (La Chappell du Bastion Picpoul de Pinet) and I ordered a Mr Snufflupagas mocktail which is a spiced Thai tea with some kind of coconut milk in it. It was alright, but not amazing. We ordered Devils on Horseback for a starter. I was torn between this or the Deviled Eggs w/ Southern Fried Oyster, but chose this because of the oddity of the flavor layers that surely must come from combining bacon, chorizo, dates, balsamic, and bleu cheese. This starter was amazing. All of the pieces together were excellent, and each bite brought a multi-dub-step of mind-blowing layers. It's a weird, but genius idea. My wife ordered the Catch Beurre Blanc and the fish was mahi. Lemon caper beurre blanc sauce over the grilled fish, brocollini, and roasted sweet potatoes. That sauce is excellent and everything was cooked perfectly. I ordered the red wine braised beef brisket. It came as two thin-cut slabs over potato puree with fresh green beans on the side. The meat and potatoes were doused in an excellent mushroom demi-glace and a then a nice swipe of chimichurri was added, which provided some color as well as a touch of tastebud goodness. The meat was so tender, I tried to cut it with a knife, but it was easier to just pull it apart with my fork. Superb. I also ordered a ruby fizz mocktail. That was really good. Tart cherry, coconut, lime, and soda with a Filthy cherry and lime slice garnish. This one is excellent. Definitely worth a try. Lastly but not leastly, Sunny was our waitress. Catch 27 was a solid 3. We were here with family for an upcoming wedding, and made reservations. The dining room is very tight so we were very close to the other tables. All we wanted was grouper and all they had was flounder. Once again we were disappointed with the fish of the day being a fish we can get anywhere. We ended up all getting salads which were fine enough but not mind-blowing or repeatable. The deviled egg appetizer was the best part of this meal. read more

Walking in, this place offered a very pleasant, romantic, and relaxing ambiance. We started off with a salad that was supposed to have roasted beats, however, the beats were definitely steamed or boiled. The salad had some tarnished pieces of lettuce. And the lettuce and shredded carrots were like that of the bags of salads out of Publix (grocery store). Although the dressing was good and tasted fresh, this salad is 100% not worth getting. The water tasted unfiltered and the cocktail was tasty but could be stronger 8/10. For the main entrée we got the Mahi with orzo. The orzo was delicious with somewhat of a Cajun flavor, but enough where it wasn't over powering. The fish however although the flavor wasn't bad had had a soggy texture and lacked the softness and flakiness of a fish that's been cooked right. We were in town for a music festival and in our haste to enjoy the beach before dinner and the music we failed to make a reservation - on a Saturday night! We were worried but lucked out! We were greeted by a lovely hostess and gentleman who offered us "waterfront" dining aka fountain. But it was truly lovely! The bar behind them had a cool band going which added to the fun! We started with the trio of salsa, guac and fondue. All three were magical! The deviled eggs and fried oysters were flavorful and tender! Now on to dinner: One friend is picky but they were SO accommodating! She got the braised beef without the gravy, plain mashed potatoes, and green beans. It was so full of flavor and tender! I had the summer risotto with salmon both were cooked perfectly! The other friend was lured into salad by the beets and was not disappointed, which I have to say is often the case with salads! We chose this place for our second evening meal in St Augustine. It's a dark ambient place played quiet and good music. Had a risotto and shrimp and grits. I wasn't a fan of tail on shrimp with my grits and sauce. Requiring me to navigate it and discard them But it was cooked perfectly and the dish was flavorful. And that is probably just me not used to that style. Everyone was friendly enough. We noticed our server forgot to bill us for two drinks and let them know and it almost seemed like it didn't matter to them. For the price point of the dishes - $30 + I did have some higher expectations of overall experience. But the food is good and this is a nice laid back alternative in the area. read more
