Is 5 Stars the highest I can rate them? This was hands down one of the best meals I have enjoyed in some time. We arrived early and got in fairly quickly. Long waits are common for this spot. The interior is the old Ice Plant so it has great character. Not super large so limited dining spots within. Very high ceilings and though there were plenty of diners, it was overly loud. Great spot to enjoy the company you are with! Our server was top notch, knowledgeable, helpful, friendly but not trying to monopolize our table talk. We started with Cocktails which were all great. I went classic Old Fashioned, presentation AND taste were on point. We split the Crab Beignets order of 4. The breading on them was light and fluffy, the Crab tasty and they were cooked appropriately, no burns or underdone spots. For our main course, we elected to split 2 of the specials of the day so they may not be there when you go, but judging by the quality of the specials, any dish would be great. We had the Caesar Salad (which is like calling the Queen Mary2 a "boat"!). It is next level, 7 minute eggs, homemade croutons, Anchovie forward, all good! We also split an order of Shrimp Cake Sliders. These were huge, and the slaw that accompanied was the perfect match to the shrimp without overwhelming them. My spouse and I were in Florida visiting family and had a night to ourselves so we decided to check out The Ice Plant with the promise of a connected distillery tour. The Ice Plant location was historically St. Augustine's first power and ice complex. Now the building has been revitalized and has The Ice Plant and The St. Augustine Distillery. The St. Augustine Distillery is connected to The Ice Plant and is a great tour to check out right before heading to grab food at the restaurant. There are a variety of guided and self-guided tours. My spouse and I checked out the self-guided tour right before we grabbed dinner at The Ice Plant. The tour isn't particularly long but was filled with information. After the tour, we headed upstairs to the restaurant. The restaurant feels really spacious with its super tall ceilings. There was lots to look at reminding us of the previous use of the building. We ordered the hand cut fries, strawberry and beet salad, and the gochujang marinated pork chop. I also ordered a few of their drinks, each one featuring different types of ice to fit the drink. Honestly all the food and the drinks were so good, but the easy standout of the night for both my spouse and I were the pork chops. These might have been the best pork chops I've ever had in my life. The pork chops were incredibly tender and juicy, not dry at all. I was expecting it to be a little dry, as I feel like pork chop can sometimes get overcooked, but no. These were so juicy and tender. I asked our server how the pork chop was cooked. Our server said that the pork chops were cooked sous vide, which makes a lot of sense as to how they were so tender. I've already told my spouse if we are in the St. Augustine area again, I would make a special trip just to get these pork chops again, they were that good. I really enjoyed this restaurant. What I can tell you is that I could have happily consumed about 30 of them, tumbled down the stairs, and been perfectly happy about the whole experience. My wife went with the Mojito, and it was brilliantly constructed. The crushed ice and layered mint made it look almost too good to drink. Almost. The drinks absolutely deserve five stars. Then came the blue crab beignets, and they were spectacular. That's the kind of appetizer that makes you stop talking for a minute because everyone at the table is too busy enjoying what's happening. Unfortunately, the rest of the food didn't quite live up to the cocktails. The fish dip was very average and lacked much flavor, and the menu itself felt pretty limited. So here's the deal: if you're coming to The Ice Plant for drinks, I would have no problem giving it five stars. The cocktails are that good. This is a highly recommended stop for a drink in St. Augustine. But I have to review the entire experience, and the limited menu and average fish dip bring the overall experience down a notch. Four stars. Come for the drinks. Stay for the atmosphere. Definitely order the blue crab beignets. It is so beautiful in here. My girlfriend and I were obsessed with the aesthetic. The staff is also super nice and the way they make their drinks is truly an artwork. As always, the food was excellent from what I remember. I honestly don't know how I missed writing this review, but after being on the road for over a week, I had a lot of reviews to catch up on. My mom and wife both ordered the burger with an egg and fried potatoes, and I had the Skillet Fries with Chicken & Hoecake, served with collard greens, sawmill gravy, and apricot butter. Everything was very good. They also offer a tour of the distillery, and there's a store on-site where you can purchase the liquor they make. Holy cannoli this place is a must if you're ever visiting St. Augustine! We checked it out right after The Lightner Museum and it went perfect with our "old town history" theme. Superb service! (Constantly refilling water glasses, very efficient between ordering and serving, the flavor was out of the park) We got the Pimento Cheese for an app, 1/2 lb. burger with truffle fries and an espresso martini. I've had better truffle fries, but that was the only negative thing we could think of. It felt like we took a time travel machine and enjoyed linner for a bit, we also did the Bourbon tour after which was also a great experience! So cool how its all connected. My wife and I have visited The Ice Plant several times over the years, and it remains one of our favorite dining destinations in St. Augustine. The combination of imaginative cocktails, exceptional food, and a unique atmosphere makes every visit memorable. The cocktail program is outstanding. We enjoy trying a variety of their exotic and inventive drinks, and they never disappoint. The flavors are bold, creative, and unlike anything you'll find at a typical restaurant bar. The Yellow Submarine cocktail is quite possibly the best drink I have ever consumed. Made with curry-infused Bermuda black rum, lime, ginger, and Asian five-spice brown sugar syrup, it sounded unusual on paper but came together beautifully. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered four of them that evening, something I rarely do. That was three years ago, and despite returning several times since then, I have never seen it on the menu again. The food is equally impressive. Two years ago, I ordered the Skillet Roasted New York Strip served with Yukon Gold potato-anna, roasted asparagus and spring onions, watercress, and black truffle hollandaise. To this day, it remains one of the top five restaurant meals I have ever eaten. Every component on the plate was exceptional. The steak was perfectly prepared, the crispy potato galette was irresistible, and the black truffle hollandaise elevated the entire dish to another level. It was the kind of meal that stays with you long after the plate is cleared. I would gladly drive 300 miles just to eat it again. Most recently, I had the wild mushroom bisque, and it was the best soup I have ever consumed. Rich, creamy, buttery, intensely mushroomy, and perfectly balanced, it was everything a mushroom soup should be. The addition of crispy pickled onions and crème fraîche added texture and contrast that made an already outstanding soup even better. My wife and I enjoyed it so much that we returned the very next day hoping to order it again, only to discover it had already rotated off the menu. My only complaint about The Ice Plant is that some of their greatest creations seem to disappear as quickly as they arrive. While I appreciate the constantly evolving menu and understand that seasonal changes are part of what makes the restaurant special, there are certain items that deserve a permanent home. The Yellow Submarine cocktail, the wild mushroom bisque, and the Skillet Roasted New York Strip with black truffle hollandaise are three of the finest things I have experienced there. The fact that I can vividly remember one of these items from three years ago and another from two years ago says everything. Great restaurants serve good food. Truly special restaurants create dishes and drinks that stay with you for years. I asked for the one drink and then a Tito's drink and he quickly said, again with attitude, we don't serve that here. No suggestions, no friendly reply, and just stared. I ordered another vodka. I didn't realize till later that they were also a distillery so maybe this offended the little guy. The proper response would've been, hey we don't have Tito's but would you like to try our local spirits? Oh well, enough about our initial impression. We were seated within 30 minutes and the ambience is cool. Not many tables for such a large building and no outdoor seating Our waitress was much more accommodating. We ordered the crab cake beignets. Very good!.light and creamy, not heavily fried. The shrimp bisque was awesome. Light and not heavy with cream. The fish dip was great but small, more chips than dip. The prices here for drinks and apps are higher than others nearby. Portions for shareable apps should be bigger. The strawberry and beet salad with grilled shrimp was fresh and well prepared The red fish special was great. Delicate fish and tasty sauce. $56 price range, even at the beach was a little stiff. I looked up the menu online and had my heart set on two options, only to find out when I get there that the menu is completely different in restaurant. They couldn't even substitute or accommodate, which is very disappointing. The waitress was not even willing to ask the chef. She then brought us an appetizer as an apology, which did give us a chance and by us I mean me, the chance to look over the menu. We had our drinks but we decided after the app that we would find something there. This felt like a bait and switch. I visited on June 18th at around 6pm, and the only negative thing I have to say is about the attitude of the host at the entrance. When I arrived with my pregnant wife and my service dog, he asked somewhat curtly if it was a service dog. After I confirmed and thanked him, he rudely placed the menu on the table, turned around without saying another word or showing any basic courtesy, and just walked away with his back to us. It was a pretty cold and uncomfortable welcome. That said, the restaurant is absolutely charming. I really loved the interior ambiance--it's cozy, well-decorated, and has a very pleasant vibe. The food was extremely delicious. We ordered the Half Pound Ice Plant Burger and it was juicy, fresh, and packed with flavor.
