This is our second time here, first time was a drink by boat. The views from the back patio are exceptional, the inside is your standard fried fish restaurant. For drinks, we ordered their IPA available and the Uncle Dave's lemonade (very refreshing). The kitchen was extremely slow....extremely. With that being said, our server (Miley) was excellent, kind to our daughter, and brought us table bread while we waited. Once we got the food, it was honestly better than I expected. The fried mushroom appetizer was one of the best fried mushrooms we've had. For dinner, we had the blackened fish tacos (yum!) and the blackened fish sandwich (also yum!). The side we enjoyed most was the black beans and rice. All in all, we like this place and will be back. read more

Went to Aunt Kate's with family members last night. Had not been in a long time. We were told it would be about twenty minutes at 7 pm on a Friday night. Ordered drinks at the bar and our tables were ready. Not bad for a Friday night. We tufted fried calamari which were good and the marinara sauce with them was outstanding. The corn bread, corn pone and the spice bread served were very nice. My wife and I ordered the seafood platter of crab cake, shrimp, scallops and fist. We had them grilled. Great grilled flavor on the fish. The sides we had were the vegetable medley and the potato salad. Both were good, the potato salad could have had a pinch more mustard but that is my taste. The service was very good and the views were excellent. After a long absence we will start going back. Oh yea, we had a drink called a Painkiller. read more

Our server Andrew was fantastic. He recommended some great dishes and is delightful. Came back a second time and was happy to be in his section! All three of us loved our food, Caesar salad, grilled chicken sandwich, flounder sandwich, mac and cheese (!!), fish tacos, fish reuben, the crab cakes (!), and bread were all soooooo good. In St. Augustine for the weekend stopped here near our beachhouse in Vilano. After a long day doing the tourist thing and looking for something with a more relaxed atmosphere than downtown, this place was perfect! We had a big party, but they were quick to accommodate us. Outdoor patio seating with a river view. This space is beautiful. I loved the cut out giant trees growing through the patio. The view nice also. Our server? Amazing! Most of my party didn't speak English. She was patient with us and our orders and got it completely right! Our food? Great. Ranged from steak to shrimp and grits, shrimp and my pulled pork. Good prices and great quality. There were no complaints. I sneaked away to pay bill as it was his Birthday and server added a cake for him. Made it so special. We were out on the water and spotted Aunt Kate's to dock at & so we pulled in for a Saturday lunch. Table for 6, out by the water, was perfection on a day as gorgeous as today. Our server quickly came out and took our drink orders and then our food orders. Our table got a variety of foods- John and I shared coconut shrimp (which was delicious), my friend Lani ordered the crab cake sandwich with scrumptious mac and cheese as her side and another friend copied her. Deb just ordered a small side- but that was enough. Our only foodie casualty was Jason- he doesn't do a lot of seafood and opted for the bbq pulled pork sandwich & discovered he does not like mustard/vinegar based bbq. He ate what he could but I felt bad for him. Everything came out quickly and I loved my Uncle Dave's lemonade cocktail. Oooohhhh- and the bread basket!!! The pumpkin bread is wonderfully delicious! The bartender refused us service while granting it to the couple who attempted to order happy hour drinks right after us. This made us question just leaving and going somewhere else. However, I am very glad we did not. Our server was wonderful and worked to make up for the unpleasant beginning of our experience here. Why was this my first time here but I'm so glad I did it on my own having a me day! Service was awesome from Andrew and the hostess, better than some fine dining experiences. The food was so delish I tried catfish fingers, clam strips, fries (so many other family places underestimate the power of a great fry) coleslaw was also very good and not too much mayonnaise the bread they started me with was great and please be sure to try the homemade datil. The service was pretty slow and that was kind of expected given that they seemed understaffed, but our server especially seemed to be pretty absent compared to the others around us. We didn't sit outside but went out there after eating and it was a pretty nice view, so if there's not too long of an outdoor wait I'd recommend that- it was a little stuffy inside. The food was alright, we got the Fried Green Tomatoes to start which were fried well and came with a great sauce, but they were under seasoned/salted. I got the Blackened Fish Tacos with Fries. The fries were good and the sauce the tacos came with was great, but the Blackened Mahi was overcooked and oddly shaped for a taco format. Everything was a bit overpriced in my opinion as well, but given that there aren't many options around here that was also expected. I'd try other places before coming here, but Aunt Kate's is an ok option. read more

While visiting my parents in St. Augustine, we were on a hunt for a pet friendly restaurant where we could bring our two dogs along. Kate's was great, and I was so happy that they allowed our dogs to eat there, at the picnic tables. They brought bowls with water for our dogs right away. The views were incredible! The only downfall was my meal, the scallops, they were not great and didn't taste fresh at all. The potato salad was soo good! I could have eaten so much of that and the mashed potatoes. The gator bites were soo good also, highly recommend with their orange sauce. read more

What a wonderful restaurant. My wife has heard amazing things about Aunt Kate's and their reputation is well warranted. They have a terrific location, with the absolute best waiting area of any restaurant we've ever been to, ever! They have a couple docks to walk on and take photos, a small stretch of beach to wet your toes, and even a sitting area underneath an huge oak tree, as you gaze over the water, and in our case, watch over the little one has he got wet. The food was terrific. I had the St. Augustine Shrimp. Don't let my photo fool you, there's actually 3 sticks, but I ate one before I remembered to take a photo. =) My wife had one of the specials, sorry, I forgot what it was called, but it was even better than my shrimps, which I liked very much. They had live music, and he was great. I should have gotten his name because I loved his voice. Would love to listen to him more if he plays anywhere else, or is a regular at Aunt Kate's. Overall, a wonderful experience. If it wasn't for the overcast, we would have caught the sunset, so something to look forward to on our next visit. =) read more

This restaurant has great seafood and accessible by boat! The restaurant has two boat docks and there is also a Boat Ramp and a Bait & Tackle shop adjacently located, which makes for a boater's paradise. On Sunday there was live music, which we enjoyed. The seafood was cooked and seasoned to perfection, which validates their over 100 years of service. There wasn't a single item that I would not order again, and we ordered a variety of items: Fried gator, Coconut Shrimp, Peel N Eat Shrimp, Crab Cakes, and Cajun Pasta. They offer complimentary table bread; the Pumpkin spiced bread was my favorite... Sweet and savory :) The service was slower than I expected but overall great food, music, and drinks... so who can complain on a beautiful day. This would not hinder my return visit, or my referral to anyone looking for great seafood with a beautiful water view. If you haven't been here you should definitely try them out, I love Peel N Eat Shrimp and they have some of the best! read more

Well this place is off our list. The worst dining experience ever. We had a server who looked and acted like he wanted to fight every customer in the place. Super angry with an attitude- He asked us if we wanted water and I said no, but we would like two unsweetened iced teas and his response was "don't you like water", and he made a nasty face. I asked him about the Minorkan chowder and he said it's red. We asked him for regular sugar and another face was made. Ordered our food, which was never served. There was another couole sitting across from us and I saw our server toss their bill on the table and heard him say "you got your bill - have a nice day". The man and his wife appeared upset. That was the last time I saw our server. Finally after about a half hour/40 minutes later Kendall, another server came over and asked us if everything was okay. We told her about our server and she told us he's always like that". She apologized and she did her best to get our soup and dinners. She got us ice for our iced teas and brought bread to the table, which we didn't know was part of their process. She was very pleasant. The food was pretty good, but I wouldn't say it was delicious or special. Kendall told us she mentioned our experience to the owner, but that person never came out to discuss or apologize for the service or dining experience. When we arrived and again when leaving there was no presence or indication that an owner or manager was there. There were a few teenagers at the front desk when we left and no one thanked us for coming in or visiting the establishment. They didn't even acknowledge us or look up. This was our first time here and we will never go back. How the owners allow this guy to be a face of their business is just incredible. We actually thought we were being "punked" or he was trying to be funny. Dining is out at this place!! Oh, the guy singing and playing the guitar was the only thing that kept us there the first half hour! read more

After a day at the beach we found Aunt Kate's. Great location right on the river. The weather was perfect and everyone opted to eat outside. The service was great, sadly I forgot our servers name but she was excellent. We ordered fried green tomatoes, ahi tuna appetizer and a chicken sandwich. We enjoyed every bit of it. They also gave complementary bread: Johnny cake, cornbread and pumpkin bread. We loved all 3 but pumpkin was my favorite. I can't wait to go back and try something different on the menu. read more

We were seated and waited 15 min for someone to acknowledge us. Five parties were seated after us and were able to place their orders. I spoke to a waitress and told her the situation. She said that the hostess was supposed to assign tables and that she would look into it. At this time, the hostess walked by and said, "Oh, I thought I had done it. I forgot." We were willing to excuse this and understand when she seated yet another couple next to us and sent a waitress to take their order. Great scenic setting, right on the intracoastal do take advantage and SIT OUTSIDE. I went here on a whim, by myself and wanted to sit outside and get a little work done. My server was Liam, a really cool server who had a cool beach vibe. I am not saying he was a formal server, but he was attentive and got my order perfectly and his recommendations were spot on. I had to say the highlight on the meal was the bread service. Liam brought out a sample of three breads: Johnny Cake, Pumpkin bread Datil pepper bread The pepper bread was most interesting, soft bread with a strong pepper kick. I normally am not into spice, but this one was really good. Pumpkin bread was probably my favorite, but the Johnny cake was good too. Skip the butter, the service I got was either left out or something, it was just not good. For my lunch, I had: She crab soup Trio of chicken salad, seafood salad and tuna salad. The she crab soup I thought was good, but the salad trio was runny and lacked flavor. Maybe I came on an off day, but next time I am going to order something different. While I enjoyed sitting outside, one of the inside workers came out to smoke a few times and the smell was over powering. My husband and I came over hear for a date night. It's a fun place to sit on the water, but casual. The drink prices were wonderful. I paid $8 for a margarita with Jose Cuervo, when typically they are between $10-$15. The bartender made a great drink. I could actually taste the tequila, which is rare. I know Jose is not top shelf, but it is not a house tequila, so $8 wasn't bad. The food was good, but we felt they overcharge for the quality. Still trying to get used to price of going out to eat in the current economy, so it made be my perspective. Our server was very friendly and the hostess was joking around with us (very personable). Some of the best she crab soup I have ever had. I mean, it was rich and creamy and full of chunks. The fish tacos were good, but would have been better with more pico/salsa. The calamari was really good and hit the spot. The real winner was the pumpkin bread though. That hit the spot and was complimentary which was a pleasant surprise. We ate outside because the weather was nice, but know the resident squirrel likes pumpkin bread. read more

This place came highly recommended. It was disappointing to say the least. Upon arriving at 5:45, I was told it was 20 mins to sit outside or wait til 7:20 to eat inside. So of course we were already there and it would have taken 20 mins to drive anywhere else. They sat us in the hotest spot possible under non working misters. There were plenty of tables available under working misters. The one unbrella our table had did very little to keep the sun off as it was not a tilting one. It did not even keep the bird from pooping on me and in my water. The fish was also dry. While our server was ok, the rest of the staff and mangement were of no help and should rethink the service industry. read more

We went here because wanted to eat outside by the water and to be honest we've passed Aunt Kate's, what seems like a 1000 times, but just never got around to eating there. First the parking lot is pretty spacious. So you shouldn't have a problem finding a space. We walked up to the restaurant, and there was a larger wooden porch with rocking chairs outside. When we arrived inside, I gave the hostess our name, and she mentioned it would be about 45min to an hour if we wanted to sit outside, so we grabbed a drink at the bar and proceeded to make our way outside. I decided to order a caipirinha, because I enjoyed having those on our trips to Costa Rica. When I sipped it, it tasted like pure alcohol. I stirred it a bit and honestly couldn't drink it. This didn't taste like the traditional caipirnhas I remember having. Instead of just drinking it, I opted to order a beer, a Red Stripe (much better). We sat outside while we waited for a table. On their deck in the back, you have really nice views of the intracoastal and wildlife. There's also a small building that I believe is a bait and tackle shop. We walked out there and saw some people bringing in fish from a recent trip, so we were able to see them and one guy let my kiddo touch the fish lol. About 30 minutes later our table was ready. We made our way to the outdoor table and were greeted by our server. She handed us our menus and took our drink orders. The food here is what I would considered coastal and it's more of a relaxed setting. After looking over the menu, we started with the gator tail, and then for my meal I ordered the mahi sandwich with fries. My husband got the same and my kiddo got the kid's macaroni and cheese. The gator tail came out hot. It is much different than the gator tail I've had at other restaurants. It was pounded flat and fried. It tasted tender and was good, but the sauce was not my cup of tea. It was too sweet for my liking. Our meals came out next. My mahi sandwich was good, it was blackened and it was seasoned well. The fries were crisp and fried nicely. My little liked his mac and cheese, so much so that we had to order him a second kid's meal. Service was good, the views were beautiful, and the food was good. Aunt Katie's and The Reef are owned by the same people. They offer two differenr experiences. AK's is on the inlet waterway. Very scenic view from an old wooden structure with lots of space. The service was very good and everyone was super friendly. Our server has lots of personality and was spot on. The entrees are typical Florida seafood style, broiled, grilled or fried. We just found the different fish we tried slightly belowour standards, which are not unusually high. Mashed potatoes tasted like they were made from a mix and the collard greens were compleytely dried (no moisture at all) This was not a great price/value relationship from my perspective. You really can't beat the view at this restaurant. Very nice deck. Lots of space to move about and explore outside around the premises. Our family of a 2 and 5 year old were very welcomed. No eye rolls from neighboring tables. Wait staff did a good job. The star was the food though. I had the meatloaf, two slabs covered in a delicious tomato-pepper-onion sauce. I then added several healthy dashes of the locally loved datil sauce and it was by far the best meatloaf. Black beans and rice as a side and i am not sure if it the best I've ever eaten, but it was dang near close. Wife had flounder BLT, tartar was homemade. Son's kids meal came on a China fish. We had made many attempts to eat here and on the eve of 4th of July we were able to walk in. Could not believe it. This place has similar to Cap's with the vibe of coastal eating but more relaxed and not as fancy but equally pretty. The low country boil was large and a far better value & much more diverse options than the St Aug Fish and Oyster company (mostly sausage and veggies, no crab legs and crawfish). The conch fritters were really delish and the added sweet lime sauce made it even tastier. Now I could not see any conch in it like in other places in St A bit they tasted good and were quite large. The bread basket took me back to my childhood. I thought it was gingerbread but it was pumpkin but nonetheless it was so good. It also included Johnny cakes and reg corn bread. The most magical part was the soloist who sounded like James Taylor one minute and then on another song like Neil Young. He plays regularly here and his name is Dan. His music is the perfect backdrop to a coastal southern meal. I ordered the grouper blackened with a $4 up charge on the fresh catch. It was so crispy on the inside and super tender and moist in the inside. The cheese grits were thick and creamy. If you can get in, you will enjoy the music and food while overlooking the water. read more
