We went here because wanted to eat outside by the water and to be honest we've passed Aunt Kate's, what seems like a 1000 times, but just never got around to eating there. First the parking lot is pretty spacious. So you shouldn't have a problem finding a space. We walked up to the restaurant, and there was a larger wooden porch with rocking chairs outside. When we arrived inside, I gave the hostess our name, and she mentioned it would be about 45min to an hour if we wanted to sit outside, so we grabbed a drink at the bar and proceeded to make our way outside. I decided to order a caipirinha, because I enjoyed having those on our trips to Costa Rica. When I sipped it, it tasted like pure alcohol. I stirred it a bit and honestly couldn't drink it. This didn't taste like the traditional caipirnhas I remember having. Instead of just drinking it, I opted to order a beer, a Red Stripe (much better). We sat outside while we waited for a table. On their deck in the back, you have really nice views of the intracoastal and wildlife. There's also a small building that I believe is a bait and tackle shop. We walked out there and saw some people bringing in fish from a recent trip, so we were able to see them and one guy let my kiddo touch the fish lol. About 30 minutes later our table was ready. We made our way to the outdoor table and were greeted by our server. She handed us our menus and took our drink orders. The food here is what I would considered coastal and it's more of a relaxed setting. After looking over the menu, we started with the gator tail, and then for my meal I ordered the mahi sandwich with fries. My husband got the same and my kiddo got the kid's macaroni and cheese. The gator tail came out hot. It is much different than the gator tail I've had at other restaurants. It was pounded flat and fried. It tasted tender and was good, but the sauce was not my cup of tea. It was too sweet for my liking. Our meals came out next. My mahi sandwich was good, it was blackened and it was seasoned well. The fries were crisp and fried nicely. My little liked his mac and cheese, so much so that we had to order him a second kid's meal. Service was good, the views were beautiful, and the food was good. We had made many attempts to eat here and on the eve of 4th of July we were able to walk in. Could not believe it. This place has similar to Cap's with the vibe of coastal eating but more relaxed and not as fancy but equally pretty. The low country boil was large and a far better value & much more diverse options than the St Aug Fish and Oyster company (mostly sausage and veggies, no crab legs and crawfish). The conch fritters were really delish and the added sweet lime sauce made it even tastier. Now I could not see any conch in it like in other places in St A bit they tasted good and were quite large. The bread basket took me back to my childhood. I thought it was gingerbread but it was pumpkin but nonetheless it was so good. It also included Johnny cakes and reg corn bread. The most magical part was the soloist who sounded like James Taylor one minute and then on another song like Neil Young. He plays regularly here and his name is Dan. His music is the perfect backdrop to a coastal southern meal. I ordered the grouper blackened with a $4 up charge on the fresh catch. It was so crispy on the inside and super tender and moist in the inside. The cheese grits were thick and creamy. Beautiful restaurant, good service, and delicious food. We were a party of 6. One was a child. 3 of the 6 people are residents of St. Augustine and recommended this place. The only thing I can complain about is we were seated at a dirty table. That issue was taken care of quickly and the rest of our visit was enjoyable. We all met here at 4:30 to avoid the dinner rush and long wait time. We were seated immediately upon arrival. On our way out around 6 o'clock people were on a 45 minute wait list. Now about the food. It was outstanding. Generous portions too. I ordered shrimp and grits. But I got to taste something from everyone's plate and we were all happy. Not one complaint. The shellfish pasta was a little spicy. But we love spicy foods. The NY Strip steak was cooked perfectly and was juicy. The bread basket had 3 different types. We were seated and waited 15 min for someone to acknowledge us. Five parties were seated after us and were able to place their orders. I spoke to a waitress and told her the situation. She said that the hostess was supposed to assign tables and that she would look into it. At this time, the hostess walked by and said, "Oh, I thought I had done it. I forgot." We were willing to excuse this and understand when she seated yet another couple next to us and sent a waitress to take their order. Aunt Katie's and The Reef are owned by the same people. They offer two differenr experiences. AK's is on the inlet waterway. Very scenic view from an old wooden structure with lots of space. The service was very good and everyone was super friendly. Our server has lots of personality and was spot on. The entrees are typical Florida seafood style, broiled, grilled or fried. We just found the different fish we tried slightly belowour standards, which are not unusually high. Mashed potatoes tasted like they were made from a mix and the collard greens were compleytely dried (no moisture at all) This was not a great price/value relationship from my perspective. This place came highly recommended. It was disappointing to say the least. Upon arriving at 5:45, I was told it was 20 mins to sit outside or wait til 7:20 to eat inside. So of course we were already there and it would have taken 20 mins to drive anywhere else. They sat us in the hotest spot possible under non working misters. There were plenty of tables available under working misters. The one unbrella our table had did very little to keep the sun off as it was not a tilting one. It did not even keep the bird from pooping on me and in my water. The fish was also dry. While our server was ok, the rest of the staff and mangement were of no help and should rethink the service industry. read more

You really can't beat the view at this restaurant. Very nice deck. Lots of space to move about and explore outside around the premises. Our family of a 2 and 5 year old were very welcomed. No eye rolls from neighboring tables. Wait staff did a good job. The star was the food though. I had the meatloaf, two slabs covered in a delicious tomato-pepper-onion sauce. I then added several healthy dashes of the locally loved datil sauce and it was by far the best meatloaf. Black beans and rice as a side and i am not sure if it the best I've ever eaten, but it was dang near close. Wife had flounder BLT, tartar was homemade. Son's kids meal came on a China fish. We ordered the Seafood Platter $35.99 to share. I also ordered a Mango Margarita $12.00. The platter had 3 of scallops,4 shrimp, a flat crab cake, a piece of fish,and a side of coleslaw. We also ordered another side,collard greens. The margarita had no flavor. Unfortunately the food was the same,no flavor. The portion sizes were very Small. There was a bread basket, not bad. The St. Augustine Style shrimp is pretty good. A little expensive at $25 but it's 12 shrimps and 2 sides so you will be satisfied. This is a great place to sit outside and enjoy the water. We really like Aunt Kate's and we've been here more than my check-in count reflects. It seems to have made our "go-to" list when we can't think of any place else we want to go to or try. We know we are going to get a good meal & good service at Aunt Kate's. So who knows why I haven't written a review before now! But here it goes... They have a little something for everyone and everything we have gotten here is good. We personally like to do light bites/appetizers or sandwiches here. The views are amazing whether you sit inside or out. If you sit inside, the air is always cool and relaxing. If you sit outside, there seems to always be a breeze of some sort and it puts you closer to the water and great view...and if you're lucky, you can witness a fisherman or two bringing in a catch. If you want a bit of a kick...try their Datil sauce. I'm admittedly addicted to sweet tea and they do it right here!!! Oh yeah!!! Plus, I want to point out that although they are close to the water, they do have straws...buuuttttt, they are biodegradable. Woot!!! The service has always been really good and they are super friendly. My 2 cents: If there is only one, just one thing I'd change and/or add...it would be to the gator tail. They only offer it fried and I really, really wish they'd offer it blackened (hint-hint). Extra notes: The parking lot is ample, it's a great place for groups (inside or out) and it's a good place to have a meal and relax away from the typical tourist places. They offer a uniformed and/or veteran discount with proof of ID...thank you very much for this! End note: There have been times here when I would have rated this place a 2, 3 or 4 and I am sure it may happen again. Stuff happens! But the good experiences outweigh the indifferent ones and they are closer to a 5-star than a 4...more like a 4 ¾! Besides...obviously something keeps us coming back! I enjoyed a great margarita and the Mr and our traveling companions had beers, while we waited on the deck for a table. The pretty view and the live music kept us busy and before you knew it, we were seated inside. The Mr. ordered fish tacos, S had a chicken pita, M ordered a flounder sandwich, and I had some delicious crab cakes and onion rings. Those crab cakes may have been my favorite meal of the entire trip. We're staying at North Beach Campground which is right next door to Aunt Kate's. This is our 2nd time here. I like this place for its laid back atmosphere, great views, and the food is good too. The staff is all young, but very energetic and friendly. My wife had the blackened scallops with Mac n cheese. The scallops were perfect and the seasoning was nice, but maybe a bit mild for my tastes. (The wife loved them). The Mac n cheese was ok. I had the shrimp and grits. Now, shrimp and grits can come a thousand different ways, and theirs is different than most I've had before. The sauce was more of a brown gravy than I'm used to. The grits were on point. Lots of bacon on top. It was very rich and,IMO, pretty tasty. The portion was huge and probably enough for 2 people...there were more than a dozen shrimp. Don't forget to try the breads...very tasty. I have done a review here before, and doing it again was a pleasure!! We came in in the boat! It wasn't busy so that was fine with us! We got a nice cold beer to start with, which they have a good selection of. We got the wonderful bread basket that comes with three different breads. Pumpkin, corn bread and I wasn't familiar with the other. All were moist and tasty! We ordered coconut shrimp for an appetizer. Lightly breaded and and tasty. The sauce that accompanied it was perfect. Our entrees came quickly and on point. I had the fish tacos that were outstanding!! Three of them with delicious grilled fish. I was absolutely full afterwards! This is one of my go tos on the water that never lets you down. I had Cheese Grit and Sweet Potato casserole sides - and was in bliss. That said, we had a 40 minute wait for a table and another 30 for our dinner to hit the table. Our server Amelia was great - and plied us with their incredible bread basket to stave off hunger. Labor shortage sucks. I don't usually post reviews but the experience here was horrendous and I had to warn others. We were visiting on vacation and opted to come here as they had an open patio and was tagged as pet friendly and we had two puppers with us. The host guy who greeted us had informed us that due to rain earlier the outdoor patio was closed and if we wanted to eat there we would either have to order Togo or leave our dogs in the car!!!! Who does that?!? Never ever tell people to leave their pets in the car. What's wrong with you? I will never go back there. Please educate your servers or hostess to never instruct people to leave their pets in the car. We ended up at the reef and the hostess there was more than happy to clean an outdoor table for us so that we could dine with our pups. read more

Located on the waterway, this spot was erected on the former location of Oscar's. The old Oscar's burned and this was built and is run by the same family. Enjoyed the Calamari as an appetizer and they have a small but nice variety of draft beers. I chose the Snowbird salad with Grilled Shrimp, meaning salad comes with 6 grilled shrimp on top. Shrimp were nicely cooked and quite tasty, nice addition to the salad. As our server indicated, the salad is a bit on the sweet side, raisins, apples, with some feta and the dressing is on the sweet side, but I was good with that! Staff was great and the location is lovely, right on the water and plenty of outside seating for pleasant evenings. Very nice spot for dinner! read more

We love coming here whenever we are in St. Augustine! It's right on the water and the view from the deck is so pretty! It's nice and cool because it's near the water and the service is really nice. They give you a complimentary bread basket with all different types of bread. My favorite was the pumpkin bread. I really like their fish tacos and I order that whenever I come. They were all out of sweet potato casserole when we were there so I got sweet potato fries and they were very delicious. I think they put like cinnamon or sugar on them because they had some sort of seasoning like that. The side of Mac and cheese is really good as well. Overall this place is really nice and always reminds me of having dinner with my family whenever we come to St. Augustine. Definitely would recommend if you are in the area. read more

Really enjoyed our lunch at this seafood joint right on the water! I had the blackened grouper sandwich which was cooked nicely and had a good level of spice and a tasty tartar sauce on the side. I ordered a side of fries and a spiked lemonade drink, I think it was Dave's lemonade? My husband had the blackened grouper tacos which he said were solid and a nice sized lunch dish, he also had fries on the side. We also ordered the smoked fish dip as an appetizer.
