When we are in St Augustine this has been my go to for sushi grade sea scallops and shrimp. It's the best seafood that I've ever bought. They now have Royal Red Shrimp. If you've never had them they taste like lobster but the consistency of shrimp. I purchased a large container of Lobster Bisque that was frozen. Brought it back to Greenville, South Carolina. Thawed it and warmed it up to just the right temperature. Oh my gosh, it's amazing. Add a little bit of Sherry, ground white pepper and little bit of sea salt.....better than any seafood restaurant. Yes! Hands down recommended if you want a taste of the local catches. I also highly recommend trying their soup; they have a variety of soups that they make and freeze them but also have 2-3 on special that were never frozen and fresh in a cup that you can bring it home. They even allow you to sample the soup on the counter. I really loved their seafood medley - probably one of the best seafood soup I've had for a while! It was $17 and I had it for 2 meals! Definitely get them ~oyster in the area is more saltier than New England... I guess with warmer water the oyster tastes changes but still delicious ! Clams were awesome and juicy but salty in nature. We are staying at an Airbnb for New Years Eve weekend. Restaurant reservations are hard to come by for New Years Eve so we decided to make our own dinner. We researched seafood markets and Kyle's had great reviews. When we arrived this morning the line was out the door. We figured the fish must be pretty good with so many people waiting. We ended up getting beautiful dry scallops and a piece of smoked mullet. Their offerings were so fresh. Lots of people had preordered bushels of oysters. First time customer. Was excited to see the variety of products. Bought Grouper, scallops and a crab dip. Grouper and scallops were good. Went to eat the crab dip two days later and noticed the wasn't an use by, prep or expiration date on the tub. Called Kyle's asking how long the dip is good for. He said, "It's good until it starts to smell bad!" Not only is that disgusting but unsafe. Makes me wonder how the handle the product. Pretty sure it's against food code. We stopped by this highly rated seafood market encounter to St Augustine in Christmas weekend. The tiny shop was packed with shoppers stocking up for the holiday on local seafoods. Iced counters were full of shrimp, lobster, fresh fish and other shellfish. There was a busy energy in the room that was intimidating as people shouted their orders. I took a sample of the crab bisque which was out of this world good. The prices were at the top of my range. I settled for a pound of large shrimp for $16, which they packed in ice for me. Service is super friendly and quick. The shrimp was delicious. This ended up being the only place we saw local seafood on our visit. Area grocery stores carried imported or farm raised products. Okay, I haven't physically been to the store, my mother in law who happens to live in St. Augustine served some Minorcan clam Chowder during thanksgiving weekend and I was very impressed, as a woman of the Caribbean I am very picky about anything that may have seafood in it. Having traveled for work for a few years and eating out constantly I have tried many clam chowders none like a minorcan clam chowder and this right here is a masterpiece of flavors! Having raved so much about this clam chowder my Mother in law served some to me during Christmas and sent me home with my own frozen container to enjoy in Orlando. As a self proclaimed foodie and very big seafood snob I have to say this is amazing and if you are local to the area it's a must try! I will be heading back to St.Augustine and will be paying them a visit because I need to see what other amazing goodies they have available. I believe it was fellow Yelper Elizabeth M. that mentioned this place to me a while ago and I was interested in paying them a visit, but I put it off and eventually forgot about it. Then much later in an online discussion about where to get smoked mullet from, Kyle's came back up again. It was right after Thanksgiving and I was really trying to be good by eating the rest of the holiday's leftovers but I needed a break in creating various turkey concoctions. On an errand run, I decided to drive down to St. Augustine. The place was small but loaded with all kinds of fish. The guys behind the counter were super attentive and friendly. One pointed me straight to the mullet in the refrigerated case behind me and I'm glad that I came when I did as there were only a few fillets left. For what's considered a "trash fish" people had been snapping those up quick. I also saw a little lonely half of smoked salmon hanging out beside the mullet and taking pity on it, picked it up as well. I checked out what else they had just to get an idea of what else they carried that was interesting and saw key lime pie, multiple kinds of seafood dips, octopus, breaded shark bites (wuuuuutt?), and all sorts of shellfish. I decided then and there that I'd be back for all of them. The prices for the two mullet fillets and the salmon were less than a single dinner at my favorite seafood spot. That made the drive well-worth it. I reheated a mullet fillet and the salmon for dinner and ohhhhhhhh my god....that brought me back to the first time I had it many years ago. The smokiness was encapsulated in every part of it and I fell in love with the taste all over again. I shouldn't have waited so long to try them out. I got an extra bag of mullet roe by telling him how much I liked them , after I got my second bag of fish eggs . Regarding the fish , all fish heya were shinny & burgundy gills & if you are not a fisherman that means is freshly caught & kept super fresh . Chances are 48 hours or less . Flash freeze will also keep the fish fresh but it usually leaves parts of gills still frozen . Go get your fresh fish & enjoy it . read more
