It's breakfast / brunch -- we as a large group of nine were hungry and also didn't want to wait an hour. We came across Basalt, asked the server about the wait time. Within a few minutes, our table was ready. The staff were very attentive and friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Due to the sunny weather and humidity, we choose outdoor seating. It was very humid but there was a slight breeze here and there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a bit loud due to the cars passing by / close to the garage entrance and other people walking by.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]But overall, the ambiance is simple and expected for outdoor seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had ordered several entrees and we shared so it was a nice mixed of food. We had three of the sandwiches, pancakes, ribs, salad and pasta. The food was delicious but my favorite would be the garlic chicken sandwich and charcoal buttermilk pancakes. Lovely meal and experience, would definitely recommend. There is something on the menu for everyone. Looking forward to dining here, again!

Delicious food! Especially the Basalt Breakfast and Avocado Toast. The Beef Shakusha was tasty but too salty for me. The Basalt Breakfast serving was so generous. Indoor AC or outdoor seating. Great service. Reservations accepted on Open Table. Parking at the Hyatt Centric Hotel- valet on Kuhio Ave or self parking via Seaside Ave. (one way street towards the mountain).

I loved this place! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very nice ambiance outdoors[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], lovely food, 3 hours of parking validated. Lovely drinks. Overall I recommend!

Another recommendation on the Hyatt Centric website and located in Duke's Marketplace, this place is a gem. The prime rib and beef carpaccio were excellent, highly recommend. We were celebrating a birthday and they printed a Happy Birthday menu, a nice gesture that shows they love their customers. If you're a guest at the Hyatt Centric, make sure to tell them for a free crab cake!

It had been a while since my last visit, and this time I decided to try their happy hour (2-5 pm, with the last food order at 4:30 pm, available only at the bar counter). There were several people seated at the bar and only one bartender working, but he was efficient and attentive. I ordered one of the well drinks, which I wasn't familiar with. The kind bartender explained that it's simply a basic liquor mixed with something like soda. I ended up having a vodka tonic, and it was nice and strong. For food, I tried the Baked Mussels (Lup cheong sausage and mayo-crusted green-lip mussels) and the Lilikoi Chicken Wings (passion fruit-glazed mid-joint wings with sesame seeds). The mussels were cooked perfectly. I didn't really notice the taste of the sausage, but that didn't bother me since I mainly wanted to enjoy the flavor of the mussels. The wings were good as well, though they were very sticky, so I wish they had provided wet napkins. Overall, I enjoyed both the drinks and the food. It's a nice, quick, and reasonably priced spot to grab a bite in the middle of the busy Waikiki area.

First of all the food here is absolutely delicious! My favorite dishes were the Loco moco, the Basalt breakfast, and the glorious Charcoal pancakes! The waitress was so kind and showed us the most popular and delicious dishes on their menu. They had a had a nice background ambiance. We got seated almost immediately and they had the food brought out so quickly that I didn't even had the time to take a sip of my water! Overall ll I give this place a nice five stars!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is busy and noisy due to its location but wasn't an issue, just a fact.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was great and the servers knew the menu well and have recommendations The food menu is somewhat limited but good options nonetheless. My favorite are the charcoal pancakes. Sooooooo good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I've come many times and will continue because it's nice to sit outside and have a nice breakfast[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Happy hour is from 2-5pm daily and is only offered at the bar (bummer, because it looks like they have a nice outdoor area...)[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The prices on the HH drinks were good and I'm always glad when they have local beers on draft. However, I was pretty underwhelmed by the food. Garlic chicken sliders: Instead of having one piece of chicken, it was multiple small pieces of chicken, which means they kept falling out of the sandwich. They were also soft - and so was the mac salad on the sandwich, so there was no textural contrast. It probably would've been much better if the chicken was crispy. Garlic soy fries: Interesting shape! They were crispy on the outside but were sitting in the sauce, so they could get soggy if they sat too long. Overall it just felt like everything was a touch too sweet and needed a hit of acid or salt or something to punch it up.

I had a nice breakfast here. Service was good and breakfast was tasty. I went in with expectations that everything in the area will be priced at a Waikiki cost so I felt the money paid was worth it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When walking by a few times, I was surprised to see this place nearly empty.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Give them a chance and you'll be satisfied.

Last night was my last night in Waikiki and I wanted to treat myself to a nice dinner. I had been a few years back for breakfast and remembered the food being delicious. I sat at the bar and was promptly greeted by the bartender. He was friendly and served me a water while I looked at the drink menu. I ended up getting the Maui Brewing Company Pineapple Hana. It is one of my favorites. I then showed my allergy card and asked if the bartender can show this to the chef and see if there was anything I could eat. If not I would have a couple of drinks. I was excited that he came back with a couple options. I decided on the gnocchi with spinach, tomato sauce, and sausage. It usually comes with eggplant, but I was unable eat it. It was delicious and I ate the entire dish! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe of Basalt is amazing as well. There were people watching the World Cup.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I truly enjoyed my dinner there. I highly recommend you check it out m

Rodd helped me plan my mom's 60th birthday dinner here at Basalt and they exceeded in impressing all 14 people! They helped me curate a 3 course menu that fit perfectly with our group and the the pricing was more than fair for the amount and quality of the food we received. I have to give huge props to Rodd and his team, especially our waitress Bina, for such an outstanding job. We all enjoyed everything, from the salad starters down to our desserts, everything was perfect! Our meal started off with the house salad, perfectly dressed & great size for an app. Then our guests had 3 items to choose from: fish, chicken or gnocchi with sausage. I chose the fresh catch of the day which was marlin. It did not disappoint. Loooved the cook on it. It came with veggies and white rice and was perfectly portioned. I tasted the chicken and the gravy was amazing along with the mashed potatoes. Loved how lightly the skin was fried. Also tasted the gnocchi which was really flavorful as well. The third course was a dessert option of a mochi brownie or POG (Passfruit, Orange & Guava) mousse. Both options were great as it provided a chocolate and non-chocolate dessert. I liked the brownie the best! Everyone had nothing but great things to say about their meals. I definitely recommend Basalt for any occasion! Appreciate Rodd, Bina and everyone at Basalt in creating a memorable experience for my mom's birthday. Thank you times a thousand!

Had a wonderful brunch at Basalt. I had a tasty skillet mixed with steak, French fries, and over easy eggs. My dish had alot of personality. My dessert was a fruit mousse cake slice that was flavorful and different from the usual chocolate mousse served in most restaurants. The service was very courteous and prompt.

There are several dishes marked gluten-free. For the other dishes, you would have to request a gluten-free preparation. In that sense, I think your selection would be pretty good.

Our waitress, Alyssa (sp?), was terrific - friendly, energetic, and gave great recommendations. When Alyssa came to take our drink orders, I asked if the mai tai could be made on the sweeter said. She said it couldn't but gave me other recommendations when I asked for drinks that are on the sweeter side. One of those drinks was the meringue di cerdo, which is a drink version of lemon meringue pie (my fave!) and it was perfectly lemony and more on the sweeter side. My mom got an elderflower drink, which she said was just ok. I got the Cioppino and quinoa cakes. The cioppino had a rich seafood flavor that I haven't seen in other versions of the dish I've tried. It came with toast with romanesco sauce. The sauce had a kick without being overly spicy. The quinoa cakes had a similar taste and texture to falafel and were topped with avocado. They were delicious but a little bit on the heavy side. My mom got the beet salad and the cavatappi with sausage, both of which were specials. Though I didn't try the pasta, I did try some of the beet salad. Beets were cooked well. We loved the crispy shallots. We were full so no room for dessert! Only downside was the noise as we were first seated but it seemed to quiet down during our time at Fete. Would recommend/return!

He described everything with such care that it was hard not to order everything! I'd highly recommend a reservation as there was not an empty table the entire two hours we were there. The restaurant is on the smaller side so it can get quite loud but our table had great conversations and a overall lovely time. Appetizer: We ordered the konpachi hush puppies (apologies, they had a nicer name but this is how they were described to us) and they were delicious! I'm not a lover of fish, but these were so flavorful and the sauce paired perfectly with it. Drinks: I had the meringue di cedri to drink and it was akin to a lemon drop (10/10) it was sippable and lasted my whole meal. Husband had the Hana Koa Rice Breaker, which is one of his favorites as its smooth and pairs well with honestly anything. Entree: You will be missing out if you don't get the lemon risotto. I ordered it with the prosciutto and it may be one of the best meals I've had in Hawaii. The zucchini is done two ways in it: diced to be mixed in with the risotto and thinly sliced and grilled on top of the risotto. The panko crumbs on top really solidified the plate for me as top tier as risotto can get to be boring to eat after a few bites as they can lack texture, but not this risotto! Every bite was a journey and it was a very filling meal. My husband ordered the Korean steak and said it was better than some of the local steakhouses we had gone to. Our friend ordered the spaghetti carbonara and enjoyed it as well. Dessert: We were encouraged to try the Rocky Road ice cream and decided it was a must have when you visit. It was creamy, rich and delectable. We also opted to try the dessert special of the evening which was a Lilikoi cheesecake with a chocolate mousse. The cheesecake had a sour tang to it and the chocolate mousse partner with it to balance it out so it wasn't overly sweet. We loved it and I know in a few days we'll be craving this meal all over again!

The smoked octopus was sliced in pieces that were too thick and a little too chewy and the andouille sausage and black pepper overpowered the dish. Ordered the bourbon and bone marrow mostly for the presentation. It was WAAAY too rich and needed more bread to go with it. They should've served it with bread that wasn't buttered because the buttered bread even though tasty by itself was just too rich in combination with all of that bone marrow. The dish needed more balance. The ice cream sundae was unremarkable. Would have preferred it served with a choice of hot fudge or the caramel drizzle and since it was plain vanilla ice cream they could've drizzled a lot more caramel over it. The waitress did bring us more nuts when we asked, but they were busy at the time and she was the only server so it took her a while to get to us, and the ice cream was pretty melted by the time she delivered. We got there when they opened at 5 PM and they had two servers at that time. The place wasn't busy so it seemed like they had enough help for the amount of tables that were being seated. An hour and a half later, though, one server was missing (possibly taking a lunch break) and the only server remaining at several big parties to take care of which slowed down her responsiveness to the other smaller tables like ours. The music playing in the background seemed to fit the environment and was pleasant to listen to. It's a pretty casual atmosphere. The prices for what you get are a bit on the high end. Probably wouldn't go back unless someone else is paying. We didn't feel too bad this time because we had a gift certificate which covered most of our bill. Maybe we were choosing all the wrong items and should have just stuck to ordering meat dishes, which they might be better at making (with a name like Livestock). You'll have to check this place out yourself and see if they do a better job with meat and if the prices for those dishes are more reasonable. I gave this place four stars instead of three because the servers were friendly, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the food was mostly okay (tasty enough and filling).

Simple, delicious, ono Hawaiian food with amazing pastries!…read more Get the guava plantation iced tea and if you don't order an entree (ie garlic fried rice, kimchi fried rice, etc.) you DON'T automatically get a butter roll, but you want one. Trust me. Get their jelly to go as well (by the pastries). Kitchen messed up our order. We got kimchi fried rice instead of the garlic but it was quickly fixed! Definitely get SPAM as your meat. It's quintessentially Hawai'i. For dessert, grab a coco puff or chocolate cream puff (or two, or three...) for to-go. Their other desserts are quite as exciting, imo. Overall, I think their breakfast is the best bet and their fried rice is also great. Huge bowls of saimin as well. Where they get iffy is lunch/dinner like fried chicken, prime rib, etc. They do make a good (and HUGE) BLT on a croissant. Can't miss this! In between East and westbound Nimitz next to Tokyo Joe's steakhouse. Parking is around all four sides of the building but can be hard to find a space during busy hours (9-11am).

I don't know. The waffle has always been my favorite. We just got eggs and portuguese sausage. I did get the kimchi fried rice which was good. Our first table was in direct line with the AC and it was like we were sitting in the wind. When we moved to the counter, the heat from the kitchen was an issue. I don't know. It just seemed like we just needed to eat and jet. Our server was nice.

The pastries were just okay; we tried a few cake slices that were fine but unremarkable. The cinnamon roll was dry and hard, the malasadas were forgettable, and the haupia-filled malasada was surprisingly tart. It's possible some ingredients were locally sourced and just unfamiliar to our mainland palates, or maybe we simply caught them on an off day. The servers were curt but friendly, likely because the place was packed with tourists.

It was so sad this business is closing down by Oct 31st. With rising food costs, inflation and…read morestaffing, it's understandable but I wish best endeavors for Chef Jason Peel and his staff. My fiance won a gift card actually 2 of them (from his coworker whom could not get a reservation secured), we knew we had to make the trip over before they officially close. We had multiple dishes, but staff made Kauai prawns and tomato miso black cod dishes on the house since they ran out the Hokkaido scallops. We ordered the short ribs, lobster appetizer, hamachi crudo and lastly sashimi moriawase to finish food palate. Lukki lemon dessert was great way to end to night. Ordered the Milk tea bouquet cocktail while my better half had water ( either way the food coma knock him out cold the rest of the night lol). To be honest, it was difficult to determine which dish was the best because the staff kept quality there despite it being busy every night since they announce the closure. Sashimi moriawase, fish was so fresh, reminded me of my time spent in Hokkaido and Sapporo. Short ribs was soft and rich in flavor. Both me and my fiance liked the lukki lemon dessert, like lemon meringue pie but broken down version. If you have a chance to dine here before closing and got a reservation, definitely will have a lovely dining experience and your stomach will be full by end of the night.

The staff were friendly and very helpful with giving us recommendations. We ordered 3 appetizers and 2 entrees, and honestly it was too much food for us. We had leftovers for breakfast the next day! - For appetizers we got: Ulu Tots, Japanese Eggplant, and Corn Beignets. The Corn Beignets was the best. - For entree we got: Tomato Miso Black Cod and the Short Rib. Both were delicious and worth a try. Sad to see that this restaurant appears to be closing.
