As always, A2Z never fails to disappoint! Everytime I came back to Indy to visit, I always stopped here. Now that I am moved back to Indianapolis, I will become a regular (again!). Whether you're going for breakfast or lunch, I definitely think this should be a top choice. The food is always good quality, and you get a LOT of it. Today, I had the French toast with a side of Portuguese sausage (hot). The French toast was cooked perfectly, and the Portuguese sausage never disappoints. It's delicious, cooked well, and this is about the only place you can find it. The service is always top tier. They're friendly and you can tell they care about their guests and the business itself. Tom and Gina - the owners - are always there working their tails off, stopping to chat with the guests and support their staff. The ambiance is homey and friendly. Gina is a local artist and you can tell by the way she designs and decorates the inside of the cafe. I've noticed it changes with the seasons, which is so fun! I heard about A2Z as a featured restaurant during AAPI Month as I'd been craving some "Loco Moco" a comfort food (rice, hamburger or fried spam, gravy, fried egg) in my soul. Ironically my first visit I was so excited about the Tapsilog (marinated beef, garlic fried rice and fried egg) special that I forgot why I went! If you want a taste of the island or even just an amazing tenderloin this is your place. There is a special weekend menu so it pays to go on weekdays but the Benedict and Chicken and Waffles with Habanero Honey was worth a weekend trip! Honestly, my favorite is that I can get rice as a side to my sandwich. Having grown up in a household where EVERY meal had rice this place just makes me feel like home. Holy humuhumunukunukuāpuaa! I now have a go-to place to get Spam musubi in Indianapolis. A2Z Cafe sells Spam musubi individually, and they are large and filling. It even says on the menu: One is a snack, and two is a meal. They ain't lying! The musubi here are made the way I like them: With more rice than Spam. To me, Spam is one of those foods where a little goes a long way. These musubi have just the perfect hint of Spam in every bite. Mmmm ... processed pressed pork product. They have a large breakfast menu at A2Z with all of the American favorites, but I kind of feel like if you're going to a Hawaiian / Pacific Islander restaurant, you should partake in the regional cuisine. Plus, I love Hawaiian food for nostalgic reasons, so you don't gotta convince me to get a plate lunch. I got the Classic Plate Lunch with shoyu chicken, which comes with a scoop of rice and a scoop of mac salad. I loved the flavor of everything, but the chicken was a little tough (they were chicken breasts). But overall, it satisfied my need for Hawaiian food! We also got one of the specials of the day, which was a Filipino breakfast that came with steak, an egg and a scoop of rice. The steak was a little tough with this one, too. My kids are kids, and they wanted nothing to do with Hawaiian food, so they ordered off the kids menu and got the chicken tenders and tater tots, and the french toast and bacon. They both liked their food a lot. All kids meals lunch meals come with tater tots as the side, and a kids beverage. Interestingly, A2Z has hot chocolate on their menu, which my children saw and immediately asked for. We were sitting on the outdoor patio and it was 85 degrees outside, but yes, hot chocolate was a must. Hot chocolate comes either plain, or for a bit more, you can get it decked out with marshmallows and whipped cream. All of the people here at A2Z were working super hard to make everyone's dining experience great. They had signs at the entrance stating that they were short staffed and asked for our patience, but I really didn't feel like the service was anything less than great. read more

I've visited multiple times and am always extremely satisfied with my visit! Gina and Tom, the owners of this amazing brunch spot, have the best energy and attitudes! They have gone out of their way to ensure we are satisfied with our meals and experience. Being a native Hawaiian, their dishes are of great quality! I spoke to Tom and he mentions that he gets the taro rolls from an authentic business directly from Hawaii! (I won't tell which brand in case it's a secret, but trust me... it's the real deal). This is a fantastic locally owned establishment. I called their number tonight after seeing that the sign was off the building. The owner, albeit with the restaurant closed, answered the phone and said they are moving down the street and should be open by early February. I would ask that all locals who support mom and pop restaurants continue or start giving some love to A2Z once it reopens. We need more places on the northside like this versus all of the chains that continue to pop up. read more

I love A2Z Cafe. My very first visit the owner gentleman came over to our table to introduce himself. Both owners are so warm and welcoming, it's hard to find that these days. Our server Ray was amazing. I've been back several times and it's consistently good with consistently good service. If you like coconut at all, you must try the coconut rice. If you're lucky to go on a day they have the Spam Musubi, order it! We tried to order it the last time, but sadly it wasn't a day that they had it. I'm attaching photos from our recent visit. There were no leftovers, including for my petite mom who normally doesn't finish her food. That should say enough for anyone on the fence about trying this local establishment. If you can pay in cash, they won't charge you the credit card surcharge that gets passed on to business owners by credit card companies. Always looking for a locally owned spot, I decided to stop in A2Z for lunch one weekday. I'm always in the mood for breakfast food, so I was seated and asked the friendly waitress for her suggestions. I decided on the scrambled eggs with spinach, mushrooms and feta. My coffee arrived quickly while I checked out the interior. It's quite homey inside and reminds me of the old school restaurants we visited when I was growing up. It seemed as though a number of the guests were frequent customers from their interactions with staff. My food arrived in a bit, and I dug in. The eggs were fine, but my toast was a little more brown than I expected (not enough to send it back, though). My waitress came back around and refilled my coffee once more before I left. I also noticed a newish appearing note on the menu indicating there is a small surcharge for guests who pay with a credit card. I had an average experience during this visit. This is a great breakfast place on the north side of Indianapolis. I had the biscuits and gravy with two eggs over easy and everything tasted very good. I wish the gravy had been hot and next time I will make sure that to request that. Potatoes were ordered crispy and they were, unlike a lot of places that ignore that kind of request, perfect. It sounds crazy but I have always wanted to try spam sushi style that is common in Hawaii and this place serves it. It was my first time having Spam and I thought it was a tasty starter. As a table we ordered a crab cake eggs Benedict which had perfectly poached eggs and a great hollandaise, chicken and waffles, huevos rancheros, and a Buffalo chicken wrap. The chicken tenders were crispy and cooked perfectly and so was the waffle. The chorizo in the rancheros was delicious. What can I say? This place truly has everything from A to Z. They have a variety of island favorites blended with typical Midwest breakfast food... on Indy's north side. Inside you'll find an island atmosphere, casual but cool vibes. The bathrooms and dining areas are always clean. The walls have some pieces of art, which is mostly done by one of the owners Gina, a local artist. The rest of the space is filled up with funny signs and island decor. It's a nice place to sit and enjoy alone, with friends, or even work on stuff as they offer wifi. The owners are hands on, they are in the restaurant almost everyday. They have a loyal staff and clearly treat their employees like people (hard to find these days). EVERYONE there who takes tables is a truly great server. The food is always on point and the kitchen staff works hard to make sure there isn't ever much of a wait. (Unless they have no seating Available because it's so busy and there is a wait because it's so epic). This place is a gem in a world full of chain restaurants. A friend and I visited A2Z cafe at 10am on a Sunday for brunch, this was a good time to come, we were seated almost immediately and after placing our order out food came out quickly. The hostess was very friendly, our server wasn't unfriendly, but they weren't particularly warm. By the time we left at 11am there was a long wait for a table, so be sure to arrive on the earlier side or be prepared to wait. The food was ok, we had an order of the fried biscuits with apple butter, the crab cake benedict, and the A2Z omelette which consists of chorizo, bacon, spinach, and goats cheese. Both were served with breakfast potatoes. I also ordered a to go order of the tater tot scramble to take home to my husband. I enjoyed my omelette but the potatoes were cold and needed seasoning. Sliced tomatoes, nice touch. Coconut rice, yumm, has just a hint of coconut and sweetness to it and is a great offset to the saltiness of the Spam. The Spam by the way is awesome. I don't recall Spam ever tasting this good. But it was perfectly fired, just a tiny crisp on the outside, soft as can be on the inside. Wow. Very friendly staff! I took my dog and sat on the patio and the waitress even brought me out a bowl of water for him. Good shade luckily. I had a pineapple mimosa which was good and refreshing. I ordered the tater tot scramble which is covered in sausage gravy. Everything was good except the gravy. It tasted very watery and had no real flavor and I couldn't even taste the sausage. I added tons of pepper to help but it didn't much. I think if the gravy was better I would've given a five but since the gravy covered my entire dish it was hard to give more than that. All of the staff members had a great attitude and made sure my party was having a great experience throughout our whole breakfast. The decor is second to none - authentic Hawaiian pieces, paintings on the wall from the owner and my favorite - a Hawaiian themed Christmas tree! My husband and I are big fans of Hawaiian food. When we go to Hawaii we spend most our time going to restaurants. My family put on quite a few Luaus growing up where we would roast a whole pig in the ground with banana leaves. So, Hawaiian food isn't something new to us. When we heard that there was a place in the Indy serving some of our favorites, we made our way over. For Indy it's a 5 restaurant but outside of Indy it's probably 4. We decided to go lighter than usual. We ordered the Hawaiian plate with shoyu chicken, Mac salad and coconut rice. A side of Portuguese sausage (mild) The luau pork with Hawaiian bread and rice. The shoyu chicken was the winner. It was tender and the flavors paired perfectly with the coconut rice. The Portuguese sausage was tasty as well. The luau pork wasn't our favorite, we both agreed it was missing some depth of flavor, like there wasn't enough of the earthy pull from the banana leaves. The macaroni salad wasn't bad, it wasn't special either. We also ordered POG which is my husband's favorite and it came in a cute tiki glass. My coffee refills came frequently and hit the spot. I definitely am looking forward to coming back and trying more of their island offerings. The grilled pineapple in their egg Benedict's are calling my name!
