I really enjoyed my visit to Harry and Izzy's while I was in town for a conference! The rest is very conveniently located, and we were able to easily walk to the restaurant from the convention center. We had a larger group and were able to book a reservation in advance. We were seated in a private room for our meal, which was perfect with a big group. The staff was very friendly and helpful, making sure that everybody had any questions answered. I appreciate that we were given to wait staff for our group size which made things move very fast and efficiently. They have some great lunch offerings and deals to get the most out of the menu. I really liked the lunch combo with the shrimp cocktail, their homemade sauce really packs a punch! We also had a special birthday and they were able to bring out a dessert for our birthday girl, and that was a great part of the experience as well. read more

In town for a convention and went there two nights in a row. No reservations? Try the bar. The four tops can be converted to six if needed. Everyone on staff is fantastic. First night, by myself: Old Fashioned Toasted Ravioli 8 oz filet with peppercorn sauce and mashed potatoes. Excellently prepared and everything was delicious. Second night, part of six. I wish I could remember the waitress's name because she was awesome. 2 toasted ravioli. 2 shrimp cocktails. I ordered the Izzy Style New York Strip and I wouldn't orders it again. What a surprise lunch at Harry & Izzy's!!!! So to preface this I was asked if I like shrimp cocktail....oh yes please!!! I wasn't warned that it was hot as hell and the way I eat shrimp cocktail it is one big bite. Needless to say there were tears. After the tears dried there was a smile. The best shrimp cocktail ever!!!! The amount of horseradish in the cocktail sauce is unreal. DON'T TAKE ONE BIG BITE!!!! This is your warning!!! It cleared any sinus issues I had for sure. We ordered a prime rib sandwich and the Emerald Kale Salad. The Kale salad was so full of flavor with aged manchego, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, cilantro vinaigrette, and peanut satay sauce. Highly recommend. The service was amazing by the way. Top notch for sure. The ambiance is classy, crisp and clean. The Prime Rib Sandwich looked amazing as well. Harry & Izzy's is a sister restaurant to St. Elmo's. Peyton Manning is an investor and partner of the company. #18 had good taste in food because the shrimp cocktail is delicious. Spicy and sinus clearing but world famous for being so! They do have a milder version if you can't take the heat. The service was great! Our waiter was nice and very friendly and helpful. The filet sliders were tender and so good! The chips came with a really good French onion dip! I wish I had the recipe for it! The Caesar salad was fresh and the croutons were great. They were perfect and not rock hard like most restaurants. The star though is the shrimp cocktail! Chilled and delicious dipped in that spicy hot horseradish cocktail sauce. I can't recommend this place enough. My group was in town for a conference and we decided to do a group lunch here. It was fantastic! The services was great, the food was top notch and it was also my birthday which they were kind enough to acknowledge. I loved have the ability to order the lunch special which gave me the opportunity to try so many things. I had such a hard time choosing so this was perfect. I was able to try their signature shrimp cocktail which was so good! VERYYYY Spicy but after the burn wears off it tastes so good! This portion size was more than enough and I was stuffed afterwards. The steak was cooked well, a good medium rare and easy to cut with the plastic cutlery, as it was tender as well. The mashed potatoes with pieces of potato skin in it was better than I expected. Very buttery, creamy, and paired nicely with the steak. Lastly, the signature brownie was interestingly good. The pecans in added a nice different texture to the brownies I normally have and the ice cream that it came with was delightful. It was light and tasted like it was made in house. Service was provided by 2 people, both attentive and polite. My old fashioned cocktails were well-crafted. The complimentary bread was buttery and flavorful. While I don't eat shrimp, I tried the famous cocktail sauce on a cracker and enjoyed the zing. I loved my wedge salad - maybe my favorite part of the meal. The prime rib sandwich is another favorite, especially for a person that doesn't want steak (or the cost of it). It came with fries. Sides are ala carte. Brussel sprouts were fantastically crispy. The sides felt somewhat unneeded though and it felt like a lot of money went to waste. Be mindful of your entrees coming with sides and that they're big for sharing. We visited Indianapolis from Milwaukee the other weekend to see a concert. Two friends of ours from Ohio suggesting getting together for dinner and strongly recommended Harry & Izzy's. I'm sure glad they did. This was an exceptional experience all around. Our server was top-notch in all regards -- friendly, informative, and attentive. We tried a variety of cocktails in our lengthy stay. Elmo Cola, Old Fashioned...they were great. The "world famous" St Elmo shrimp cocktail is worthy of its title. Holy cow. I've had St Elmo cocktail sauce from the store, but the one they serve in the restaurant is an entirely different experience. Every single bite I took resulted in a blast of horseradish heat shooting up my nostrils, but it was addicting -- I couldn't stop eating it. Best shrimp cocktail I've had in my life...by a mile. And the steak. I feel like I'm full of hyperbole here but it was also one of the best restaurant steaks I've had. The steak itself was made perfectly, but I think what really brought it all together was the orange brandy butter sauce. Ordered delivery for my wife who had to stay over the weekend on a business trip to Indy. So, perhaps a little unusual, this is her review of the dinner. Started with the classic shrimp cocktail. Excellent, plump fresh shrimp and the famous St Elmos cocktail sauce that met all expectations. House salad was also great, got the cilantro vinagrette. The filet ordered medium, was delivered rare. Of course there's no way to ask the kitchen to give it a bit more cook. But anyone would think an upscale steakhouse would know the basics about steak temp. Very disappointing. The potato side, smashed red potatoes suprisingly didn't travel well either. So fabulous start, then a crash and burn for the main course. Next time we'd go downtown to St Elmos and skip the Harry & Izzy's experience. read more

In town for a work conference, we brought a large group of 12 for dinner. Harry & Izzy's is the sister spot to St. Elmo. Same pedigree, but with a bigger dining room and broader menu. Food: We started with brussel sprouts and calamari. Both were flavorful and well prepared. For my entrée, I ordered the ribeye "Izzy's Way" (pepper crusted and served in a bath of steak sauce). Normally I avoid steak sauce, but this was excellent and worth ordering in Indy. Sides of mushrooms and broccolini were just okay. Dessert stole the show. The banana bread pudding was phenomenal. Easily the best bread pudding I've had anywhere. The local black coffee paired perfectly. Service and Atmosphere: Service was attentive and smooth, even for a big group. The dining room has a warm, lively atmosphere without being overwhelming. A great place to bring colleagues or friends for a solid steakhouse experience. Bottom line: If you are downtown and want a great steak dinner, Harry & Izzy's is worth it. Go for the ribeye Izzy's Way, but do not leave without trying the banana bread pudding. read more

Came here for a team lunch with my job. We had to enter through the now-abandoned Circle Center Mall, which had an odd odor. Once we made it inside the restaurant, it took a while to be seated, even with a reservation but everyone was really nice and did their best to seat all of us as fast as possible. Our server was incredible, and we found out that she was on her third week! She absolutely killed it! Every once in a while you've got to kick it back to the OG fine dining lunch spot in downtown Indy. They actually have very reasonable lunch options! They have a 15, 20, and 25 dollar lunch combo. I got the 25 and it came with salmon, fries, a small Caesar salad, and some of the world-famous shrimp cocktail! I recommend asking for some saltines if you like the cocktail sauce because putting it all on two shrimps is a bold move! Would be very hot hot to spread it out. I found it to be a good deal. While at the convention center for a large conference that we were working at, a few of us came to St Elmo's right at 4, when it opened to grab a spot at the bar and try their "famous" shrimp, but the line was ridiculously long outside, so we came here, to Harry & Izzy's instead, since it's the same chain. Walking in, we quickly found a couple of seats at the bar and upon being greeted by the bartender, I asked her what she likes to make and he response was "draft beer." To which I said no bartender should say that, especially in a nicer place like this with all the spirits they have. She then said wine too. This just told me she wasn't a very good bartender, rather an order taker who just pumps out orders with no focus on customer service nor providing a good experience. Service was very mixed the entire time we were there. While there, we also tried their famous shrimp, ordering 6 pieces. At the same time we ordered that, we asked for the fried ravioli and also the bacon. The ravioli and two orders of the bacon came out soon after and when we said we only ordered one order of bacon, she said "oh yeah" and asked if we wanted this second order and when we said not if we had to pay for it, she took it - Another poor service and training example from her... What's she going to do with it once it was sat in front of us? Hopefully not serve it to someone else! The bacon tasted great! The shrimp was over done being covered in that cocktail sauce. The flavor of the sauce was decent, but not stronger/spicier than Eddie V's atomic horseradish in their cocktail sauce. Drinks during our visit were ok, but nothing special. Overall, based on this experience and what we heard from others about this place and St Elmo's, this chain seems to have rested on their laurels and long history and does little to continue providing great service and experience. read more

I absolutely loved it, I went on a Tuesday night and i was surprised there was people there! Wasn't so busy which was good, did not have to wait for a table as well. My first time keep that in mind! I got everything ON THAT MENU! I got 2 appetizer the meatballs and chips with guacamole! SUCH A 10 They were both so good loved the bread with the meatballs the sauce everything was so good. Came back to Harry and Izzy's after a tremendous experience last year! This year was off to a great start again, our server was very good! I cannot recall his name, but he was a young gentleman who used to bus tables at Elmo's Steakhouse next door......anyway, despite his best efforts our evening was blemished by my entree. I ordered the ribeye medium, it arrived (a beautiful center cut piece of the ribeye) cold. Not warm mind you, but cool to the touch. Honestly I have never gotten a steak arrive cool to the touch at any steakhouse......it was like it sat on a tray, as opposed to under a heat lamp for quite a while before being g served. Second steak arrived after a while, and was presented by a manager.......it was a heavily charred replacement which was grey when I cut into it. I told the manager it was hot, but not anywhere close to a medium. By the time the third steak arrived, my companions had finished dinner and I'm happy they were, because the third "steak" was the single worst looking ribeye end piece I had ever seen (it was completely falling apart and just obviously flashed on the grill and rare.). As soon as it hit the table, I looked at the manager and said no thank you......just the check please. The manager mentioned something about the kitchen being "tough tonight" and I nicely explained that I just came in for a great steak due to last year's positive experience, and was surprised that she couldn't tell that either of the replacement steaks obviously weren't up to par from just sight alone......and why she would even try and serve them. She apologized, adjusted the bill, we paid the check, and got up to leave.....as I'm walking away from the table, I glanced back to see a fourth steak arrive at our empty table, by appearance it was a beautiful looking steak (finally). I walked over and told them that I wasn't interested in a fourth attempt. On the way out one of the other servers pulled me aside and apologized for the whole situation and explained that they have been having issues for quite sometime with the kitchen and management. Food excellent-same famous shrimp cocktail as St Elmo's (pricey $20 for 4 jumbos) was excellent and spicy and fresh horseradish for sure. Filet was excellent a bit off in cooking but meat was incredible and the horseradish Gorgonzola butter was $5 and worth it. The red skin mashed potatoes were fabulous. For a $108 price tag it was worth it. Service was good. It is a rather loud environment. Food delivery was a bit off with a 30 gap between shrimp and entree. Nothing offered which is disappointing. We visited this location for a friends birthday, and the service was good. I will say that I feel as though the food quality has gone downhill. We asked for bread rolls and they were very hard. I ordered the salmon with mashed potatoes. My potatoes were hard and cold. The salmon was good, but very small for the price. I use to eat at Harry & Izzy's often and it was one of my fave restaurants. I will wish they'd bring back the chopped steak with the Gorgonzola topping. I was here for a dinner on a Saturday evening and considering that it was a very busy evening for downtown restaurants as this was the weekend of many Halloween parties, I am giving a 4 star instead of 3 stars for my experience. We made a reservation on OpenTable almost a month ago. We parked at the Circle Center Mall in the blue garage, and as some others pointed out in their reviews, there was no signage indicating which side Harry and Izzy's is. We arrived at the restaurant and there were 3 more parties ahead of us (all with reservations) that were waiting to get seated so the check in area was crowded. They don't validate parking tickets which is pretty common for many restaurants in the area. As we were being shown our table, I noticed how busy the restaurant and the kitchen was at that time so we decided to put in our order quickly. The restaurant was lively and loud as expected on a Saturday evening. Our server, Mary, was prompt to check in with us and ask our dietary restrictions. She preferred calling a manager (his name was Austin) to ensure that everything we requested for the dietary restrictions can be accommodated by the kitchen. Among appetizers, we ordered calamari and scallops. Calamari was freshly fried and came with a delicious, creamy dip (not the standard cocktail sauce). For main course, I ordered the blackened Atlantic cod while the others in my party got the filet and Radiatori pasta. The cod by default comes with green beans but the server was happy to switch it with Brussel sprouts, no bacon, which I appreciated. Our appetizers took 30 minutes to arrive and our main course took 45 minutes from the time we placed the order, which was disappointing given that the server told us both times that our food will be right out. The blackened cod was soft and tender, and well seasoned. Presentation was average but I was glad that the food was warm and tasted well. My side of Brussel sprouts was well-seasoned and slightly spicy which I enjoyed. The filet and pasta were both impressive but the pasta only had a couple chunks of chicken. As I was eating through my Brussel sprouts side, I noticed a chunk of bacon even though I'd specifically asked for no bacon. Because we'd already been waiting for too long, I decided to skip the rest and didn't ask to get the side replaced. Went here for dinner for my friends birthday, and it was good! It wasn't mind blowing, but the food was solid. I got the ribeye and substituted the brussel sprouts for my side. The ribeye was cooked perfectly (after switching it with my friend because they confused our steaks), but the brussel sprouts weren't the best. They weren't crispy at all, so be warned of that. The bacon appetizer was good. Make sure you request a bread basket because they don't automatically bring you one. The bread was AMAZING. The perfect spot for a work lunch! This was first time visiting the downtown Harry & Izzy's though I have been to the northside one a few times and to St. Elmo's many times! I had a coworker visiting from out of state and we decided to go here both because of the menu and because it was a relatively quick walk from the office. We arrived around 1 and I was a little surprised at how busy it was. Only seating available was in the bar area and the only empty tables were dirty but we just stood near one for a minute and staff were quick to clean it up and reset it. We we welcomed quickly and staff never seemed rushed or stressed even with being so busy on random Wednesday afternoon. I was delighted by their offering of lunch specials! $25 for 2 of the famous St. Elmo's shrimp cocktail, a side salad (pretty good size) 2 (small) filet sliders - cooked to order, and fries! Only thing I would change is that I think the filet sliders should be served with the horseradish cream sauce and the fries should come with a dijonaise or similar sauce but that's just personal preference.
