Our party of 12 co-workers visited Prime 47 on a Monday evening. Reservations are strongly recommended. Our service was top notch from beginning to end, especially for our large group. I noticed several other groups also being well taken care of. I very much enjoyed my old fashioned, meatball appetizer and filet (cooked medium). The table bread was delicious too and I had a hard time not eating it all. Prime 47 seems to have been around for a bit of time. The decor was simple. We were in town for a huge conference and while considering where to make reservations, we chose Prime 47 over Capital Grille for the uniqueness of eating local. That proved to be an excellent decision! Service was excellent here! Our server (forgot his name, taller slim guy with mustache and we sat near the kitchen) was spot-on and knew how to take care of a larger party. He was always nearby, ready to help and his suggestions were welcomed, taken, and perfect! Their steaks were incredible! We tried a tomahawk, filet, and Delmonico and that was the best Delmonico I've ever had... the tomahawk was incredibly flavorful as well! Sides were great too... mac & cheese was so very tasty, so was the creamed spinach and mashed potatoes! Save room for dessert! They have an amazing bread pudding!! Simply put, this is one of the best steakhouse experiences we've ever had. The food was excellent, as was the service. My wife got the World Tour (a Wagyu flight) and I got a filet. The wagyu, while expensive, was melt-in-your-mouth tender and had excellent flavor across the board. Of the three variations it came with, our personal favorite was the Australian. That seemed to have the best texture, in our opinion. Of their shareable sides, we got their mashed potatoes and mac n cheese, both of which were excellent (though we could've gone without the jowl bacon in the mac). The staff was terrific, and really went the extra mile to make it a special evening for us. With it being a special occasion, they brought us a cookie and ice cream, which was a perfect ending to the meal. All in all, this is probably our favorite steakhouse in the city, which is saying something, given all of the excellent choices around. read more

From this viewpoint we could tell there was not a dress code as people with T-shirts and jeans were entering without issue. This place is in downtown and hard to find parking around. I sat on the bar and ordered a Wagyu ribeye with a side of veggies. While I enjoy salty foods, the veggies were way over salted. Normal people would probably spit out the foods. There was only one bartender from what I could observe. They could probably use two. The bartender seemed to cater more to the regulars. We made reservations at Prime 47 for my birthday celebration, and took advantage of their valet parking. The attendants were very professional and speedy. We were very pleased with that. Once inside I took a quick double take to make sure we were going in the correct door, and we were. It's to the right. The hostess was smiling and pleasant, and the initial feel was that this place was very nice. Being taken to our table I was a little taken back by the three guys in their early twenties walking by in their hooded sweatshirts and jeans, but I chuckled and moved on. Armando, our waiter was so so so wonderful. Knowledgeable. Professional. Humorous. Just the perfect package in a wait staff. I miss the days when people took pride in this job, and his shows. His team member (Jordan...I think. Sorry if that's wrong) was spectacular as well. Hubs went with the world tour wagyu, with a salad, and I had lamb lollipops, and the lobster bisque to start. Saying the food was fabulous doesn't do it justice. This is the kind of place you go for an experience. The place a couple or small group go to enjoy their time with others, share a bottle of delicious wine, laugh and relax without feeling like you need to shovel your salad down so your main entree doesn't come before you're finished. The large photos on the wall of what this space looked like many years ago was just amazing, and a perfect topic of discussion. As it was my birthday I was presented with the cookie with ice cream, and whoa mama it was sweet!! My few bites I allowed myself were heaven! Hubs gladly ate the rest lol. Celebrated our one year anniversary here last night. I had high hopes, dressed up so cute, and was so excited! Service for this type of restaurant was way below expectations. I saw other tables getting catered to, shown all the meats in a little presentation, explained things, suggested items by the staff. None of that happened with our server. I can't remember her name, but Sierra was working with her. Sierra took better care of us than the main chic. Our main server was aloof the whole night. Didn't suggest anything or go over anything, even though she knew we had never been there before. We ordered bread and it came out with our meal instead of before hand. She hardly checked on us. When we didn't order any alcohol it's as if we were then put on the back burner. Such a disappointment. On to the food. Meatballs we're amazing! I loved the world tour, honestly couldn't tell it was Waygu though. But it was tender and delish. Green beans were under seasoned and lukewarm. The au gratin potatoes were fabulous!! I don't rate a lot of things as 5 stars but this place deserved it. From start to finish, it was perfect. We were greeted by the manager as soon as we walked in and was super polite and welcoming. The restaurant is actually an old bank with the vault now being a wine cellar. Our server Chris was awesome! Very nice, knowledgeable and had some stellar jokes. Yes the prices can be high but the portion sizes make up for it. I know they get a lot of celebrities in there but we never expected to be treated like it. So we normally go to Harry & Izzy's for a steak night treat, but they were pretty booked up, so we thought we'd try Prime 47. Long story short, we'll be sticking with Harry & Izzy's/St Elmo's. 1) Ambience was nonexistent. They had a party reserved for the main bar and restaurant, so they sat us in the room to the left when you walk in. Basically a storage room that was converted to extra seating from what I could tell. Not a single picture on the wall. 2) The shrimp cocktail tried to be like H&l, but didn't compare. The shrimp had a brownish tint and didn't taste very fresh. 3) The steaks were excellent! No complaints there or with the service overall. 4) I added seared scallops to go with my steak and the two l received (for $30) were overcooked, rubbery and pretty flavorless. 5) Tuna poke app was "ok". As a longtime admirer of Prime 47 and its typically high standard of food and service, I was genuinely surprised and disappointed by the Wine Wednesday experience. Upon arrival, I was given only two drink tickets, which came as a shock since the event advertisement did not mention any limitations on wine offerings. Additionally, the food provided at the event fell well below the standard I've come to expect from your establishment and did not reflect what had been advertised. Not even one item from the instagram post was offered. Instead there were deli sliders and soggy fries. I had intended this event to be a fun start to date night and had even invited another couple to join us. In the end, I was relieved they couldn't make it, as I would have felt embarrassed about the overall quality of the experience. After leaving the event, we went to Vicino, where we enjoyed half-priced wine and a delicious flatbread -- spending half as much and walking away far more satisfied. Many establishments downtown offer deals for wine on Wednesday or during these hours in general. Prime 47 has built a strong reputation in this city, and I truly hope you'll consider re-evaluating this event format. Late night meal after a Pacers win! We sat in the bar(high top). It's always crowded and people are pumped from the game. I had my normal lemon drop martini and Chris N. makes an amazing one. I swear you could drink ten of them and never know you are even drinking alcohol. They are just that good! He also knows his bourbon. We started the meal with Fritto Miso(calamari, shrimp, and peppers) and a Caesar salad. Salad has white anchovies and is quite a large portion. I chose the pan seared salmon tonight with the dill sauce and fried capers. I also had it topped with cippolini onions. They are so flavorful. Great on a steak as well. My date ordered the lobster Mac and cheese for his meal(it's a side but definitely enough to make a meal). Staff is always friendly and takes great care of us. We had a workplace holiday dinner here at Prime 47. They are located in downtown Indianapolis and there are multiple parking garages available for pay. You can also park on the streets if you have any space available which most of the time you don't find any. The service was wonderful here and the ambience was business casual. This place is family friendly and business casual. They have great steak options but less to no vegetables or vegetarian options available. The dessert options are great. I went for a work event with a large party. There were probably 15 of us. We were at a table at the top of the stairs but not in the private room. The server was a guy probably in his late 40s with glasses. He had a great personality and he was very knowledgeable about the cocktail list, wine list and food menu. There were several appetizers that came out to start. I tried the meatballs, shrimp cocktail, crab cakes and mussels. No one was interested in the mussels so I ate an entire appetizer on my own. They came in a red broth with is a little different than I'm use to. The chorizo was good too. The Harvest Salad seemed like something different with grilled plum so I gave it a try. It was good but nothing special. It's not often you see elk on a menu so I tried it medium rare. It was underwhelming. The portion of elk was pretty small. The name on the menu is Double Cut Elk Chop. There were two lollies on each cut and there were two cuts. I'd be shocked if it was 6oz of protein without the bone. I've had lamb chops twice as big as these elk chops. The red wine bordelaise was okay. It's almost like a sweet gravy. My wife got the 8oz filet medium rare. She couldn't finish it so I tried her scraps. It wasn't the best steak I've ever but it was better than most. I think everyone was too full to have dessert so we called it quits after the entrees. The service staff did a great job keeping the wine glasses full and making sure everyone was taken care of. I couldn't give 5 stars because of the elk but everything else was great. read more

Came here for date night. It's been awhile and I Honestly couldn't renew if I liked it or not. This time I was paying attention! First off, they are located in the heart of downtown and have valet. Perfect! It's $20 but in my mind totally worth it. We had reservations and we were seated right away. Our reservation was at 6:15 and it wasn't overly busy but by the time we left it was packed. They played nice music like easy listening which is great for a nice dinner. Our server was fantastic, very knowledgeable and extremely accommodating. They have a very nice selection of liquor and fantastic cocktail menu. My food was great (filet sliders) and my husband said it was fantastic as well. Cooked to perfection. Am I a fan? I feel like I short shifted myself of the maximum Prime 47 experience because I got my food to go. Not that my takeout order wasn't great. It was! But the restaurant is beautiful inside, and I would have liked to enjoy a nice meal while sitting at a table, eating with silverware, like a normal person. Instead, I ate my lobster mac and cheese on my lap in my car, like the uncouth person that I am. But you know what? Even lap lobster mac and cheese from Prime 47 is better than a lot of other kinds of food not eaten on a lap. So I think I did OK for myself with this decision, in the end. The mac and cheese was melty and gooey and cheesy, with big chunks of lobster throughout. The portion was huge, and honestly I could not finish it -- it was just so much mac and cheese. But if you love lobster mac and cheese and you are really hungry, this is the place to get it. The parking situation can be a little iffy around this area, because there isn't much of it in the immediate area of the restaurant, and the parking that is available by the restaurant is street parking. Fortunately, I was able to get a spot on the street around the corner, but I imagine that during games or during the weekend, parking might be more difficult to find. read more

Apps: We ordered the coconut shrimp that was tossed in a Asian sauce and they were sooooo good, wish we ordered two orders of these. I let my coworker order the tuna poke even though I knew I wasn't going to be a fan because I don't care for raw tuna, it wasn't too bad it was nice to try something new! Libations: She had a glass of sparkling wine and I had a peach sangria (AMAZING) Entrees: we both ordered filets and my steak was amazing and topped with the garlic Parmesan Crust and cooked to perfection my coworkers on the other hand was cooked rare and we both ordered our steaks cooked medium. She had to send the steak back twice because it was so rare in the center it looked cool to touch. We were informed the chef complained that we're "ruining the steak" which was funny because regardless of your personal feelings it's the chefs job to prepare the dish to the customers liking (almost wish she didn't tell us he said that, but glad she did!) We both shared the Brussel sprouts as they're served family style and they were okay, they had a really sweet sauce on them that I didn't care for too much. Deserts: I'm a HUGE fan of bread pudding but what arrived looked like a blonde, it was dry and I took 3 bites. The cheesecake was so thick that I immediately had to drink water to wash it down. The server noticed we only took one bite of the cheesecake and took it off without us even asking. My partner and I had the luxury of celebrating our anniversary at Prime 47 this evening! We made reservations through Open Table, so the staff knew we were celebrating in advance and greeted us as such when we arrived at the host stand. Every single staff member we interacted with was incredibly kind, from the hostess to the people refilling our water to our server, Chris, and his assistant. I have to really commend Chris for his hospitality and professionalism; he could have easily brushed us off (we're young and were using a gift certificate, so we've gotten the "bad tipper" treatment at other establishments), but he was just as attentive and kind to us as every other table. We started off with the table bread. The rolls were standard but good, and the brown sugar cinnamon butter was delish. We also ordered the house margarita and peach peony--both were fantastic! The margaritas had a great sweet/sour balance and the peach peony packed a smooth, floral punch. I was torn between the filet mignon and the lamb lollipops, and Chris weighed the pros and cons of each dish out for me. I was so glad I went with the lamb; the dish was beautifully plated, wasn't gamey like some lamb can be, and was just really well composed. I could put that mustard sauce on anything! My partner did order the 8oz filet, which really needs an accompaniment on top to bring in flavor. He went with the caramelized onions and was pleased. We split the jalapeño au gratin which wasn't very spicy, but it was all kinds of creamy and cheesy! Because it was our anniversary, we also received a cookie and ice cream on the house. It was a very sweet gesture and served as a great end to our meal. The vanilla ice cream had a pleasant hint of lemon to it. Overall a fantastic experience. We were in Indy for a convention and landed at Prime 47 for a late dinner. The restaurant was busy when we arrived. At first glance, the impression you get is that of a high end steak house - the old architecture of the building and waiters in white coats. But that is where high end ends. While still settling into our seats, our waiter appears and asks if we want any appetizers, which we defer until we can look over the menu. Then, poof, he was gone. Once we decided, we couldn't find our primary waiter, but asked the assistant who was introduced to us as we were seated. She was lovely, but not able to take an order. Ten minutes later, our waiter appeared, and we placed our order. I admit, I am not a steak eater. I ordered the salmon, which came solo on its plate with a dab of sauce and a sprinkle of capers. For $52, you except a little flare, not the lonely small tail end piece of salmon sitting center on a solitary plate. And the salmon was dry. My dinner companion ordered steak and a lobster tail. The lobster was fine, but the steak was cold. It took another minute to summon our waiter, who apologized, then brought back a plate and put the steak, including the few smaller pieces which had originally been cut into bites, and returned to the kitchen. A 30-second round in the microwave, and the plate returned. Yes, the steak was now warm, and also cooked well and a little rubbery from the microwave. If you are going to be a white coat steak house, it takes more than wearing the uniform. Attentive service, pristine visual presentation, and excellence in food preparation are required. First I will say that I like many, we are not huge steakhouse people. We have a talented cook in our family who can make an excellent steak, so we usually go for that option. That being said, Prime 47 is a great restaurant. The food itself is very god, but the appeal to us has more to do with great service and the ambience- it is a gorgeous spot.
