My favorite place for fresh fish in Indy/Greenwood! Never disappoints. I've ordered to-go and it's hard to keep the batter from softening, but get it fresh and it slaps every time. The service was amazing. Tim needs a raise he went above and made us feel welcomed. He needs a raise and promotion. He alone made us want to return. The food was fresh and amazing. The chicken breast was juicy and flavorful. The greens and red beans and rice were so good. I could eat their greens every day. Their walley is cooked and flavored well and it tastes like it was caught and cooked the same day. I don't think you can go wrong ordering anything from here. There is a large display of fresh fish and seafood for the market. You order at a small counter and there are about 6 tables for dine in. It's in an old Long John Silver's. Food was essentially inedible. Mostly microwaved junk. Anything from Long John Silver's was better than this junk. Crab cakes gave me food poisoning. Even the "fresh" seafood in the fish market there looked off. AVOID. read more

When on Yelp and found this place were in a strange city, we live in Frankfurt Illinois, and we're visiting Indianapolis to go to Coast To Coast Imports to trade my wife's car for a nicer car so we needed to eat dinner and we found this place called Caplingers and stopped in to have dinner. We ordered some coconut shrimp, some cornbread and some baked beans and some blackened.fish everything was wonderful except the blackened fish. I would only give that two stars it tasted fishy, but everything else was wonderful and the gentlemen who are running the place were very friendly. The guys were helpful, friendly, and efficient. Many patrons coming in and out. They have quite a selection of fresh fish at reasonable prices if that's your thing. Okra is one of my favorites but it's hard to get good okra. They managed it very well! I'm not much of an authority on the fresh market stuff, but it is displayed nicely. This place is a go to and a must try if you want some great seafood in a casual setting. They have a counter where you can just buy raw fish (have them cook it or take home to cook) and you can also order and sit at the tables to eat. They have quite a few fish sandwiches made with lots of different fish, their lobster roll is amazing, the gator bites are really good, and so is most other things on the menu. I do sometimes struggle deciding whether to go here or somewhere with more ambience because you pay the same price even without being "fancy". It is certainly not a cheap meal at $25 a person on average but it is a good meal! read more

I really wish we could do half stars because I would give this a 3.5 star rating. We placed an online pickup order and everything was correct. That's a nice attention to detail. Entrees and sandwiches were great. All sauces were included, etc. The side of candied yams is absolutely the most amazing thing in this world. So good. Here's where things went kinda sideways for me. A large side of red beans and rice and an order of lobster bisque were obviously heavily microwaved. You know when you reheat something in a plastic to-go container and the rim gets kinda crusty and the plastic gets weird? Yea. That. The lobster bisque was really good, but my heart was broken at the crust ring around the container. It's bisque. Be gentle. The red beans and rice were an utter disaster. It was as if someone packaged this pint to-go container three days prior and then nuked it for my order. The rice was a sticky gelatinous mess at the bottom and the beans were undercooked. The sauce, which was sparse, just sat on top of the rice mess. I've wanted to try Caplinger's since the original location opened and now they have four! This location has a huge outdoor pavilion in the back behind the parking lot, with 12 picnic tables available for eating outside. Inside they have blues music playing in their small dining room which has only nine tables. I ordered the Fish and Shrimp Dinner which comes with two sides. I ordered two sides of green beans. The green beans were okay but I probably wouldn't order them again but my sister did enjoy the green beans. The fish fillet was huge like the size of your typical fried pork tenderloin. I received eight shrimp and two small hush puppies. Everything was good eating. I went back through the order line to order my sister and brother-in-law a carry out order and tried a slice of their Chocolate Cake while I waited for that order. The cake was excellent! I delivered the carry out order and my brother-in-law loved the Buffalo Fries and finished off his Cod Fish Sandwich in no time. My sister said their Baked Beans were good and loved her Fish and Shrimp Dinner as well. She also ordered the Fried Clams and loved them too. Restrooms were adequate and clean. Parking was plentiful.
