Favorite coffee shop in Indy! This cute shop is located inside The Athenaeum Theater, signage makes it very easy to find. My aunt and I have made it a point to stop in every-time we're in Indy, and have never been disappointed. I typically stick to their iced chai, which is very refreshing and one of my favorites. Today I tried their seasonal tiramisu latte and absolutely loved it. I've tried others but they simply do not compare. Coat Check Coffee is lovely. Located right off of Mass Ave. in the beautiful Athenaeum, this space has so much to offer. There are loads of local businesses inside the Athenaeum and as a fun tip, if you are a member of Turner Gym, you get 10% off your Coat Check coffee. I decided to take advantage of that the other day and got myself a delicious Chai latte. I love their presentation and the expansive mugs their drinks are served in. It feels like indulging in a little luxury. When I really want something special, I get their pistachio latte. It's super tasty! They have baked goods as well and the from my experience, the staff working are kind and friendly. There's loads of open seating scattered throughout this floor of the building. There's loads is also some quiet seating one floor up that I believe faces a gallery wall. Every time I come here I notice something new! Highly recommend checking it out. Amazing coffee, amazing BUILDING! The coffee shop is located within an old theatre I believe? Lots of beautiful woodwork, stone floors and amazing architecture. Their coffee was some of the best I've had. I opted for the Butterscotch Latte and it was perfect for the cold morning stroll we embarked on. First time I went to coat check it was a hidden gem. The people now know because dang was it busy today! Had to wait almost 15 minutes for latte and breakfast sandwich. Biscuit was worth the wait; SALTY and perfectly CRISPY on the outside, FLUFFY on the inside. Egg is also fluffy. Tried the seasonal latte, very sweet and not super warm which was a bummer. He took my husband and I to one of his favorite places to get a hot beverage and something to eat. I really loved my matcha latte which included some art. My son told us we could go upstairs inside the Athenaeum to find a place to sit down which was really nice. There are lots of comfortable chairs and tables up there. Since it's located within the Rathskeller Biergarten, you also get to take in a bit of German history and tradition while you're there. Located in a historical building within walking distance of Mass Ave, Gainsbridge, and the circle. It was a convenient stop before our destination. Once inside, you're greeted with friendly staff and a good amount of space to work, chill, or chat. The breakfast sandwiches were a huge hit with the group. In addition, the latte's were both unique and strong. It had a good balance espresso to milk ratio. The matcha comes unsweetened, but can be sweetened to your desire. Really charming spot in a beautiful historic building. The building alone is worth the visit. We stopped in later in the day and didn't end up getting hot food, as the kitchen appeared to be wrapping up about 30 minutes before closing. Totally understandable at the end of the day, but there weren't any signs indicating the kitchen closes earlier than the café itself, so just something to be aware of if you're planning to order food. They were still able to do their biscuit and the granola (my toddler loved this). I had an iced vanilla latte, but next time want to try the butterscotch. Coat check has great coffee in a cool part of the Athenaeum. Plenty of seating to chat or work. The specialty lattes are delicious hot or iced - the butterscotch and tiramisu are my faves. They also have a handful of food items (breakfast sandwich, BLT, pastry case) - note they cannot heat anything from the pastry case. Stopped in for a coffee with my daughter. She ordered the butterscotch iced latte and I ordered the lavender iced latte...both were delicious choices. She had a craving for a sweet treat so she got the orange cinnamon roll. It was delightful and very citrusy! Definitely a pleasant treat, almost like an exuberant citrus surprise for your tastebuds. From the moment I parked (about $1.35 for 30 mins), I was struck by the stunning architecture - it's in The Athenaeum - a historic German Renaissance Revival building - it's such a beautiful and unique space to enjoy a slow morning. I ordered the egg & sausage breakfast sandwich (at the staff's recommendation), and it was out of this world - warm, richly flavorful, on a flaky housemade biscuit. And, a butterscotch latte that was equally as delightful, perfectly balanced and cozy without being overly sweet. Housemade syrups are the best!! I stayed for a while to read about the building's history and really appreciated the thoughtful details, like displays of local art and the Colts "Kicking the Stigma" coffee sleeves that support mental health awareness. The staff were friendly, kind, and clearly love what they do. This spot perfectly captures what makes Indy special - great coffee, meaningful community, and a space that tells a story. The description says "almond, rosemary, orange blossom" and that made me a little leery to order it but wowowow -- it is SO good. How can a latte have the coffee taste but also be refreshing and not be weird? Not sure but please go try one. My friends were obsessed with the cardamom bun -- so much so, they got one each day of our conference. I've had this place on my list for so long and I finally got to try it! I was expecting just a cute little nook of a coffee shop (maybe from the name) but it was a whole thing. We stopped in on a Sunday and it was packed and we snagged the last remaining seat. I had the ginger latte and my brother tried the lavender latte. Both were delicious and so beautiful. I was highly anticipating our visit to Coat Check Coffee after seeing it rated as one of the top coffee shops in the Indy area. Walking in, you're briefly taken aback by the unique layout of the building. Reimagining this old structure into a coffee house is definitely a creative idea. However, the appeal of the aesthetic fades pretty quickly. It runs fairly warm inside, and there's a sense of a dense pall of dust and "oldness" that lingers in the shop. It feels a little unfair to call Coat Check "dirty," but other words escape me. At times, it seems like Coat Check tries just a bit too hard to be different. My wife sipped on an iced chocolate latte that tasted like chocolate milk, which was fun. I rolled the dice on the "Coat Check Cola" -- a concoction of seltzer water, espresso, milk, and orange rind. It was certainly a unique drink that embodied that "trying too hard" atmosphere of Coat Check Coffee. I did enjoy a delicious spiced cake donut. No idea how it was vegan.
