I have been following this young lady on instagram but could never make it to one of her pop-up events... luckily that changed yesterday morning! We arrived 15 minutes early and we were about 20th in line! I am so glad to see she has a wonderful following. Her pastries are a work of art and more beautiful in person than in photos. And the taste is exquisite as well! Such skill and artistry and talent plus the best ingredients. I highly recommend you follow her and check out her pastries!

Oh. My. God. If you ever have a chance to buy Beurre Sec pastries, you must do it!!! These are some of the best desserts I've ever eaten! The croissant was absolute perfection in every way. The other confections I got were also mouth wateringly delicious. And I mean, look at them!!! We got to the pop up at XChocol'art right when it opened and had to wait about 20 min. Everyone was so friendly. My only regret was not buying every single option to try! Prices are a bit high, but for the amount of work that goes into these and how yummy they are, it's definitely worth it.

Chantell Kaywood/Beurre Sec has been featured by Indy Monthly magazine, Indy Star and the like for good reason: she's the only patissier I've seen hailing from Le Cordon Bleu Paris and Ferrandi Paris, and it shows. Rather than a brick-and-mortar, Beurre Sec offers the chance to snag these beautifully crafted goodies at pop-up events that usually happen once or twice a month. Normally they're on the north side of Indy at Lulu's Coffee, but I was finally able to catch one hosted at Mimi's Blue Meatballs (lol) on Mass Ave. Locations, dates, and menus (without prices) are shared in advance via Instagram (@Beurre_sec). While not my favorite method, the pop-up process seems pretty well refined. Someone handed us a notepad and pen and told us to write down our name and order so once you get up to the front, they could simply take your paper and move pretty quickly. What I wish was different is that you don't see what the pastries look like or how much they cost until you get up to the display case, so we ordered with only the description posted on Instagram and ended up paying $54 for the four pastries plus a large focaccia. If you're coming on a budget, you may want to prioritize a couple of items and may need to narrow down your list at the register. The pastries and focaccia were all divine. My partner and I opted for a Passionfruit Danish ($7.95) that tasted like a ray of sunshine on a gloomy December day; a Gianduja Chocolate Hazelnut ($5.95) that hit all the right chocolate notes; a plain croissant ($5.50); and a raspberry hazelnut galette ($9.95) that had an interesting sort of nutty streusel inside with just a thin layer of the raspberry that packed way more flavor than I was expecting. We also went for the tomato confit focaccia ($17.95) which went quite quickly in my house because he kept going back for more! Overall it was certainly a splurge, but cheaper than a trip to Paris--and if you find French-quality pastries in such interesting flavors anywhere closer, let me know!

I was lucky that my husband's coworker snagged these beautiful pastries from Beurre Sec's pop up event at Lulu's Coffee and Bakehouse. They're so gorgeous I barely wanted to eat them! At this time, the business only does special events and pop up events without their own brick and mortar location, so keep an eye on their Instagram to see where you can find them next!

Wow, just wow! I have been wanting to try these pastries for a long time after seeing so many amazing pictures on Instagram. When I saw she was doing a pop up in Carmel near me, I knew I had to go! I got there right around when it opened and there was already a line. We waited maybe 30 minutes, but I didn't mind. Worth it! I had the pain suisse, the banana walnut danish and the Saint honore danish. They were all amazing!! While on the pricier side, I didn't mind paying it because I know the labor and time that went in to each one. I'm dying to come to another pop up!

Both are on the expensive side, however the price is commiserate with the quality. Fluffy, perfectly risen, and the flavor is throughout, not just on top like the flavored rolls at other stores. I recommend ordering ahead for a quick in/out and to make sure what you want is in stock. I've seen the line quite long, but you can get lucky with no line on a weekday. The inside is cute but there is no seating inside. You're going to get a little messy eating your cinnamon roll and want to be in the privacy of your own home anyway. My one very minor piece of feedback is I wish some rolls were sweet rolls (i.e. skip the cinnamon). Fruity Pebble is a little overpowered by cinnamon but I'd still get it. Cookie Monster is the #1 flavor for me and I can't wait to catch Pineapple Upsidedown in stock.

But we tried to go this past Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and the doors were locked, no one there, and nothing was posted on FB or anywhere. It's a 30-minute drive each way for us, so it's hard to want to even try to go back when we may drive an hour round-trip with nothing to show for it but spent gas money. So we're kinda souring on this place.

They've got a ton of stuff from bars, sweets, pastries, and even popcorn. Easy to get distracted. Staff was really nice and helped me find what I was looking for. I ordered the hot chocolate... just one sip and wow, I already knew. This jumped straight to the number one spot for me. Best hot chocolate I've had in the States, no question. The flavor was deep and full. You get those darker, slightly nutty notes right away, then it settles into this smooth, creamy finish that just stays with you. Every sip hits the same, and it just keeps pulling you back in. The whipped cream on top melts right into it and adds a little extra sweetness without taking away from the chocolate. The whole drink felt like an experience. I even asked how they make it and found out they use actual chocolate bars... makes sense. 100% worth it. And definitely be coming back for more.

We got a little assortment of goodies which included candied blueberries, candied cherries, old fashioned toffee bars and dark chocolate covered citrus peels. The blueberries were the perfect pop of fruitiness. Who knew such a little thing could have so much flavor and put a huge smile on your face. The cherries were tart and sweet and so delectable. The chocolate covered citrus pill was the perfect flavor combination. I love orange and chocolate. It was such a treat to go there. The service was great. That could not be more true. We both did Pick Two: I got a chicken salad sandwich and my mother got a turkey and cheese both with the soup of the day which was butternut squash. Soup was OK, sandwiches were OK. I got a side of chips (not made in-house) for $3. My daughter was upset when we arrived bc she was napping in the car and she proceeded to cry for about the first 10 minutes so, I walked around with her to calm her before I sat down since it's so cramped to try not to disturb everyone else. She was not happy the entire time so we were trying to calm her and feed her. Cake slices and cheesecake are $17-20 each. They're large but other reviews say dry and taste old. That's pricey. We skipped dessert at those prices based on the quality of the rest of our meal... I got an $8 peppermint mocha which was good but, served in the smallest teacup imaginable. It's extremely small inside. Like, uncomfortable. Granted, I had a lot of items with my baby and her and we were seated at a table for two with her in my lap but it was close quarters and the waitresses were squeezing between the chairs to walk around. They have about 6 tables inside with a small event private room in back. Our waitress was kind but, the manager or owner was off-putting. She went to every single table seated except ours to ask how their meal was and experience and, when time to pay, she wanted to personally ring me up to ensure we left in a hurry. I get it, some places are not meant for babies, but, since it's billed specifically to kids, I thought this was. Nope, I was wrong. (She's 19 months - so, too young for this bougie of an establishment clearly) I would not come back at all unless it was for my, older daughter to have a birthday cake experience and get a couple cute pics. As far as instagram-worthy goes, they know what they're doing. As far as quality of food. It's like a 2.5 stars. I wish we'd waited and walked into the larger one in Carmel and just shopped and got some cookies to go!

Each one of our milkshakes themselves tasted different. The Oreo one had a very strong cookies and cream flavor while the S'mores one had an impressive smoky taste to it that I've never had before in ice cream. Really, the attention to detail here is fantastic. My s'mores milkshake came with a literal s'mores treat on top of it. It wasn't just a from-the-box s'mores treat. It was actual graham cracker and marshmallow that they took into the back to use a torch on and give that extra-smokey, warm gooey feel to it. It did take awhile to get our milkshakes. One older woman was working her butt off but clearly getting frustrated at the mounting line and the fact that things kept falling. (Good to see: if something fell on the floor, she took it into the back to, presumably, toss it into the cleaning area) At one point, she asked for someone in the back to come help her, but that young teen seemed to be doing the bare minimum. I'm not sure if it's because they're untrained or not allowed to operate some of the machinery, but while this woman is frantically trying to keep up with things, he'd do what he was told to do, relatively slowly, and then stand around and wait for a new command. It was frustrating ME to watch. I can't imagine how that feels as a co-worker. All-in-all, we had about a 15-20 minute to receive our milkshakes. Definitely worth it in the end, but it's just something to note before popping in. I'd say it was definitely worth it for the unique flavor and quality when it was all done. The place looks a little "hole in the wall" with a few tables and chairs in an older building with the single, for-customers restroom in it. If you like the older, diner-esque style building that's been around for a long time, it has that vibe. Both of our milkshakes included a to-go lid right on them that we could snap on. Unlike some "crazy milkshake" establishments, the lids could actually go on both of the milkshakes after a few sips. The toppings were large but not insurmountable.

We arrived and I was immediately impressed, visually, by the beautiful atmosphere that they've curated. Through the glass garage door storefront, you are greeted by interesting light fixtures, eye- catching red chairs, large booths, rotating digital images of the delectable chocolate offerings, and flowing fountains of white, milk and dark chocolate. We entered and the smell of sweet confections filled the air. I left my husband at the counter to order and grabbed a table for us in the corner nearest to the garage door. We later discussed how, during the Summer, it will be so nice if/when they open that door up to the outside air. You order at the counter, and then they bring it out to your table. My husband returned with a big glass bottle of cold water (and some of the flimsiest plastic cups that I've ever held). The water was a nice, and necessary, touch. The dishes are rich! They are rich in the best way possible, though. The event provided a complimentary crepe with your choice of fruit, and a cookie skillet with ice cream. My husband couldn't decide on which fruit(s) to get, so the employee just told him that they'd hook it up for us. The crepe came out, and it was so beautiful...it was almost too pretty to eat! They provided us with an array of fruit to accompany it; bananas, strawberries, pineapples, and kiwi. The addition of the fruit really helped to cut through the richness of the chocolate. The crepe was the perfect, delicate vehicle for all of it! I probably ate about a 1/3 of it, and tried so save room for the cookie. I'm not a real "sweets" eater, but everything here just looks so good! The cookie skillet came out warm, gooey, and with its own generous drizzling of chocolate under a scoop of ice cream (& whipped cream if my memory serves me correctly). The cookie by itself was really delicious. In the future, I will omit the addition of chocolate sauce. It really didn't need it. I look forward to another fun dessert date with my hubby at this really SWEET lounge! P.S. All of the portion sizes that I saw were shareable. Bae and I could've shared either one of those desserts and been good. I also saw a woman sharing a sweet treat with her two children, and several other patrons were sharing. We all know that sharing means caring!
