I finally decided on the Breakfast Sandwich which was made on one of their house-made flaky, buttery croissants. The hot sandwich had City ham, bacon, egg and Gruyère cheese. It was decadent and delicious. My husband had a Potato and Fontinella cheese danish, which he devoured and enjoyed. The staff is super friendly and attentive. The food was delivered quickly. I thought prices were reasonable. The dining area has a modern industrial vibe. There are tables or comfy seating if you want to kick back. There were several people sipping coffee and working in the small work space. Free WiFi is available. The outdoor patio looks inviting during warmer weather. I can't believe I've never been here! The coffee is good and the pastries are better! We enjoyed a guava strawberry croissant which was incredible. The lemon cinnamon braid was my favorite -- the kind of pastry you keep tearing into without realizing how much you've eaten. Really nicely done. The ham and cheese croissant was flaky and savory without being greasy, the white chocolate-lavender shortbread cookie was subtle and well restrained, the gingerbread slice was warm and cozy, and the Gorgeous George éclair was elegant and indulgent without being heavy. I have a carb problem and I'm so happy that I only get to stop by this bakery when I'm in town visiting family. Because if not I'm sure I'd go through a loaf of bread every 2 days. Ambiance: This is a standard coffee shop with that modern clean lines vibe and hard metal furniture. There is only one area with a green couch/soft-seating option so you might be out of luck if you're hoping to settle in for a cozy study/reading session. The music was some unobtrusive jazz music and it generally wasn't too busy/noisy but could get echo-y once there were 3-4 other conversing couples around. They do notably have some board games like monopoly and Catan you could enjoy with friends. The staff were efficient and friendly. Food: My cappuccino was meh. The shot had a medium roast with some swiss chocolate undertones and pronounced stone fruit overtones. My problem is that it was acidic/tangy which makes me suspect under-extraction, the foam was loose (which is barista dependent), and the presentation lackluster. That said, I came here primarily for the baked goods and they do have some pretty looking pastries. The selection is roughly, 4 breads, 4-5 pastries, 2 bars/brownies, one loaf-style dessert, 4 cakes, a brûlée and that's about it. It's a smaller selection than a full dedicated bakery but a larger selection than say a Starbucks. I came around 1pm and the selection was still good, only the daily-baked breads were picked over. I got a sampling of pastries and enjoyed them with my wife. The blueberry hand pie was my favorite and had a nice laminated flaky crust and not-too-sweet homemade blueberry filling. There was also a lemony cinnamon roll that was refreshing and a peanut butter jelly cake that was fun and creative. My wife's favorite was their plain cheesecake which was a European style cheesecake with the caramelized top and much more savory than sweet flavor. Finally made it to Leviathan on the weekend before they closed! I ordered the breakfast sandwich as well as the strawberry-guava and canelé as tea/next day breakfast. I made my way in just as a bike tour group stopped in, so it was slightly hectic. However, Leviathan's layout made sense in how to line up, so with some patience, you're able to place and then wait for your order. My breakfast sandwich came piping hot and crispy. I'm not sure if it was due to the heat, but I found it a bit heavy, so I look forward to trying out the vegetarian option next time. It is a generously loaded sandwich, with their croissant as the bread base. I couldn't help myself and had the canelé as well. The food offerings were solid- I've only tried one of the three things I ordered, the bfast sando with no bacon was flavorful with that shallot egg and the cheese pulled as I bit. Can't beat that. My dark choc mocha was just alright. As for feels. maybe you have to be a regular to feel em? There were people in and out the whole time I sat, so I know they're capturing hearts. I always think about trying the biscuits and gravy, but then I am worried I won't like it as much as the breakfast sandwich and chicken out lol We each got a caramel latte and a breakfast sandwich. We also always get two different pastries to split with each other. Today we chose the kouign-amann and the strawberry guava croissant. Both were so tasty and buttery, but the strawberry guava was filled with the most decadent cream and fresh fruit jam, so it was our favorite this visit. Before leaving we stopped back in to grab some iced drinks to cool down with and got the strawberry hibiscus tea and the herbaceous lemonade. Yesterday was National Croissant Day, so naturally, I had to visit the spot that was just included on Yelp's "Top 100 Croissants in the Country" list! I also ordered the blue matcha tea with a splash of almond milk. You can also order the blue matcha latte (in my photos) to get the beautiful latte art on top too.
