PICKED UP SOME SANDWICHES TO GO ================================ My son and daughter-in-law like Leviathan Bakehouse, so my husband and I picked up some sandwiches to go on Wednesday, August 6th. We got one LVTHN TBA which has turkey, bacon, balsamic onion, garlic aioli, greens on a marble rye. My son likes that a lot. My husband and I got the same sandwich minus the bacon and the marble rye. They were good and the price was definitely reasonable for the amount of ingredients. It seems like a popular local spot on College Avenue and E. 11th Street. It would be a good place to pick up some things for a picnic and ride your bikes north on the Monon Trail or hang out at a park nearby.
I can't believe I've never been here! The coffee is good and the pastries are better! We enjoyed a guava strawberry croissant which was incredible. It had a nice sweet cream in the middle and was the perfect level of flakiness. We also had a ham type pastry we enjoyed too. I had the banana pudding latte which I loved, and my husband enjoyed the cold brew. The vibes are super cute and cozy in here! Worth the wait and we will be back!
It's been a hot minute since I've been in here but gosh, I love it. There is plenty of space inside and also a few tables outside as well. I've never had a pastry here I didn't love. Today I got the biscuits and gravy! It was absolutely perfect. It comes with two biscuits which k didn't think was a lot but it was super filling. The taste and spices are just right! My cappuccino was a little lackluster but still got the job done. Next time, I'd love to snag a loaf of fresh bread. It all looks perfect.
Keeps on getting better and prices don't get cranked up! Love walking through Chatham arch to the best oasis in the area. Great pastries, coffee, sandwiches galore
I love it here. Staff is great, and their drinks are even greater. Love the seasonal matchas that they have. They also make their own syrups in house which is always a plus. Don't miss the quiche of the day!!
Great local bakery with unique items. Be prepared to try something new and you will not leave disappointed.
This is an update. I feel like since I've been back, they changed the dressing on the breakfast sandwich and it is amazing. The croissants are the best and the Kouign Aman is just as good if not better than Dominique Ansel's. My daughter and I have gone 4 days in a row because they are closing for the winter break wahhhhh!! My husband is flying up soon so I can't wait to come back here! The best. We tried the quiche, the basque cheesecake, the ham and cheese croissant, the veggie sandwich, the Meg. The milk bread so good! The bakery is my fav so far and that's saying something.
Just off the Moon Loop Trail and receiving the American Culinary Federation Presidential Award, this gem is creating "honest food in a space where individuality, quality, and connection thrive together." After many travels in search of the finer carbs, I heartily agree it's worthy of every accolade. Open every day (except Monday), come share breakfast or lunch at large tables (indoors & out) with family and friends, or take time away from the office to share in the airy community space. The Strawberry-filled Ermine Croissant sells quickly, but I opted for a classic sweet & savory sample with the Kouign Amann and Ham Croissant. Either are exceptional examples of flaky, delicate Parisian-style pastry - caramelized sugar lightly browned over buttery golden goodness (Kouign) and complex layers of pineapple, ham, and mild cheese inside a perfected pastry rippled with crisp phyllo ridges (Croissant). Friendly in a way only the Midwest serves alongside a classic Cappuccino - a day maker with many more reasons to return!
One of my husband's favorite breakfast sandwiches. He says their croissants are the best, so I subbed it on the turkey sandwich and liked it! It gives me more lunch stop vibes than cozy coffee and breakfast, but they have both! If the street parking is full there is a side parking lot.
We are Leviathan regulars. It's been such a joy to have this spot near our home in the Old Northside and to watch the area around it grow and evolve. Who doesn't love a trail (Monon) paired with a flaky croissant? Other Leviathan highlights: -counter seating facing onto the street with outlets and ideal for remote work -Leviathan TBA sandwich (turkey bacon aioli) - worth noting, this just so happens to be dairy free -delicious chai tea -any of their pastries- especially with fruit- you can't go wrong The staff is always friendly and down to business. They also offer a loyalty program at checkout- easy peasy!
Stopped in for a brunch sandwich on a snowy Saturday. There was a bit of a line and not many open tables but ordered the M sandwich on focaccia bread to go. It was delightfully spicy and the focaccia had so much herby flavor. This spot has multiple bakery items and cakes, couches and a bar area to cowork. I'd recommend for a casual coffee or lunch meet up!
Ambiance: This is a standard coffee shop with that modern clean lines vibe and hard metal furniture. There is only one area with a green couch/soft-seating option so you might be out of luck if you're hoping to settle in for a cozy study/reading session. The music was some unobtrusive jazz music and it generally wasn't too busy/noisy but could get echo-y once there were 3-4 other conversing couples around. They do notably have some board games like monopoly and Catan you could enjoy with friends. The staff were efficient and friendly. Food: My cappuccino was meh. The shot had a medium roast with some swiss chocolate undertones and pronounced stone fruit overtones. My problem is that it was acidic/tangy which makes me suspect under-extraction, the foam was loose (which is barista dependent), and the presentation lackluster. That said, I came here primarily for the baked goods and they do have some pretty looking pastries. The selection is roughly, 4 breads, 4-5 pastries, 2 bars/brownies, one loaf-style dessert, 4 cakes, a brûlée and that's about it. It's a smaller selection than a full dedicated bakery but a larger selection than say a Starbucks. I came around 1pm and the selection was still good, only the daily-baked breads were picked over. I got a sampling of pastries and enjoyed them with my wife. The blueberry hand pie was my favorite and had a nice laminated flaky crust and not-too-sweet homemade blueberry filling. There was also a lemony cinnamon roll that was refreshing and a peanut butter jelly cake that was fun and creative. My wife's favorite was their plain cheesecake which was a European style cheesecake with the caramelized top and much more savory than sweet flavor. Overall, my coffee shop experience here was pretty meh but I would pop in and grab a few pastries.
Quite literally one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. It was very flavorful, fresh, and light. It can get a bit messy with the flakiness of the croissant, but no complaints there! Just have napkins ready. I am always worried about egg overpowering all of the other ingredients but it did not. It was all so well balanced and the egg was extremely fluffy. I really wanted to try the focaccia but they were sold out by the time I got there. Must be really good then! The space inside is pretty large, and there's ample of seating. Definitely worth visiting if you're in the area. read more

The baked goods are awesome at this trendy bakery and coffeehouse downtown. The cases are filled exquisite pastries and breads. I couldn't decide what I wanted! I wanted one of everything. I finally decided on the Breakfast Sandwich which was made on one of their house-made flaky, buttery croissants. The hot sandwich had City ham, bacon, egg and Gruyère cheese. It was decadent and delicious. My husband had a Potato and Fontinella cheese danish, which he devoured and enjoyed. The staff is super friendly and attentive. The food was delivered quickly. I thought prices were reasonable. The dining area has a modern industrial vibe. There are tables or comfy seating if you want to kick back. There were several people sipping coffee and working in the small work space. Free WiFi is available. The outdoor patio looks inviting during warmer weather. We were able to find free street parking directly in front of the building. I highly recommend!!!! Easy 5 stars. read more

Neighborhood Bakehouse serving delicious baked bread, sandwiches, salads, cakes, pastries, cookies, tea, and coffee. I tried the espresso shortbread bar along with an iced honey pistachio latte with oat milk. The espresso shortbread had a bold espresso flavor that paired well with the buttery shortbread. The latte was slightly sweet with a subtle nutty pistachio flavor. I'll definitely be returning to pick up a loaf of fresh bread and to try one of their sandwiches. read more

An amazing bakery with beautiful pastries. The staff are super friendly and polite. Service was great. I tried the LVTHN BLT - the balsamic onion and the bread complimented very well. Coffee was decent. Would highly recommend. There is street parking and parking by the side street. The place has indoor and outdoor seating. read more
Finally made it to Leviathan on the weekend before they closed! I ordered the breakfast sandwich as well as the strawberry-guava and canelé as tea/next day breakfast. I made my way in just as a bike tour group stopped in, so it was slightly hectic. However, Leviathan's layout made sense in how to line up, so with some patience, you're able to place and then wait for your order. My breakfast sandwich came piping hot and crispy. I'm not sure if it was due to the heat, but I found it a bit heavy, so I look forward to trying out the vegetarian option next time. It is a generously loaded sandwich, with their croissant as the bread base. I couldn't help myself and had the canelé as well. It was the right consistency with the right crunch on the exterior that I have found most canelé to be lacking. I can't wait for breakfast tomorrow to have my croissant! read more

I love the GF treats and coffee at Leviathan! I also appreciate the pricing and feel like I'm getting a great value with high quality food and beverage. They have a wonderful selection and friendly staff. The walking cakes are the perfect size to satisfy a sweet craving for a random celebration! The coffee is great and I appreciate that oat milk is a standard option. I love the seasonal Summon the Linzer latte when it's available. They also have great birthday rewards, so sign up now! The location is great. It's within a short walk to the Monon trail, the Old Northside, and Bottleworks. I would note that people with strollers or wheelchairs would likely need some assistance getting inside. The ramp is at the other end of the building near the hooka lounge. read more

It was ok. It, being the experience. The food offerings were solid- I've only tried one of the three things I ordered, the bfast sando with no bacon was flavorful with that shallot egg and the cheese pulled as I bit. Can't beat that. My dark choc mocha was just alright. As for feels. maybe you have to be a regular to feel em? There were people in and out the whole time I sat, so I know they're capturing hearts. What's better, I saw lots of kiddos playing board games with their families. That made me smile. Woman who helped me at the register was warm and kept warming as we interacted. As a visitor to the city, I'd prob try a different spot next time. But thanks, Leviathan! Two word review: tepid fuzzies. read more

Super friendly staff are awaiting you at Leviathan. The baked treats are so pristine looking in the glass, and their coffee is dependable and consistently yummy. My go to is the Miel and the Breakfast Sandwich! And I always recommend a brown butter cookie for dessert, no matter what meal it is! Fair warning, they get pretty slammed on the weekends, but it's worth the wait! read more
By far, the best bakery and cafe in Indianapolis downtown area. They specialize in baked goods and fresh breads, but their coffees are pretty good too. They have an indoor and outdoor seating space, and you will often find many fur babies enjoying the patio here. My favorite is their almond croissant and honey pistachio latte. The latte is not too sweet and still very high on flavor. They don't charge extra for milk alternatives. I love that they offer online ordering which has been very useful for me when parking is difficult. After placing order online, you still have to check in with the staff but they make sure to get you your order fresh and quickly. read more
We come here every month or two to have a late breakfast together on the weekend and always have the best time. Sometimes we will sit inside, sometimes outside (and if it's really nice weather, then we'll even bring our dogs and sit outside with them). The first time I ever came here my best friend had me order the breakfast sandwich and I've never looked back. I usually despise ham on any sandwiches, but this isn't your typical lunch meat cut and it's actually really tasty. The verde sauce brings the perfect amount of moisture to the buttery croissant and it's piled up with bacon. I always think about trying the biscuits and gravy, but then I am worried I won't like it as much as the breakfast sandwich and chicken out lol We each got a caramel latte and a breakfast sandwich. We also always get two different pastries to split with each other. Today we chose the kouign-amann and the strawberry guava croissant. Both were so tasty and buttery, but the strawberry guava was filled with the most decadent cream and fresh fruit jam, so it was our favorite this visit. Before leaving we stopped back in to grab some iced drinks to cool down with and got the strawberry hibiscus tea and the herbaceous lemonade. Both are the perfect amount of sweet and taste very fresh! I love how much sage comes through in the herbaceous lemonade. The staff are always friendly and the bathrooms are always clean. Definitely recommend stopping in if you are in the Chatham Arch neighborhood. There is also a beautiful plant shop next door to check out after eating! read more
Yesterday was National Croissant Day, so naturally, I had to visit the spot that was just included on Yelp's "Top 100 Croissants in the Country" list! They also were named the "Best Breakfast Sandwich in the State" according to Yelp data a few years back. To sum it up, their reviews are so good because everything they make is so delicious. I combined both of their award-winning items by ordering a breakfast sandwich with an everything croissant. Yeah... it was a croissant with everything bagel seasoning on top. Truly -- does it get better than that? It was UNREAL delicious. It was warm and had Indiana-local city ham, smoked bacon, Gruyère Swiss cheese, medium salsa verde, and "a blanket of soft shallot baked eggs." Pure perfection. I also ordered the blue matcha tea with a splash of almond milk. You can also order the blue matcha latte (in my photos) to get the beautiful latte art on top too. After co-working in the cafe for an hour, I stood up and said "fine, I'll order more" to no one. LOL. Just kidding, but I couldn't resist ordering more. I got the LVTHNTBA (turkey, bacon, avocado) sandwich on a croissant for my husband, as well as the brown butter chocolate chip cookie for the road. Both were incredible. My husband has lived all over Europe and usually says his food is pretty good here... but this? He said this sandwich was AMAZING. And it was takeout and I didn't get it to him for an hour after it was made. And he still said it was incredible. We can't wait to come back again and again. read more

My sister and I went first thing in the morning, eager to try as many pastries as we could--and it was absolutely worth it. Everything we sampled was beautifully made and bursting with flavor. We especially loved the almond croissant, pain au chocolat, strawberry-guava & cream croissant, and the raspberry pan suisse. Each one was buttery, flaky, and perfectly balanced. A standout surprise was the Lemon-Cinnamon Braid--my sister, who normally avoids anything lemon-flavored, couldn't stop raving about it. The Ham and Swiss Croissant had great texture, though the Everything But the Bagel seasoning was a bit overpowering for our taste. As for the Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie, it was decent but didn't quite wow us--probably wouldn't order it again. Overall, the pastries were the undeniable highlight, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit! read more

My sister brought me here for the first time and I was enamored. It's so warm and welcoming inside and the food all looked amazing! Unfortunately they didn't have many gluten free options, so I settled for a chai tea latte. Service was very slow this particular day and I waited about 20 minutes for me tea. If we were able to sit and hang out there wouldn't have been a problem, but I ordered it to go. I think if they had a system for to-go orders it would help. Everyone I know who has tried their food loves it. read more
When I walked into Leviathan it was packed with people so I was confident it was going to be a great experience. The baked goods looked amazing and very tempting. I am not the biggest croissant lover but I chose the sandwich because I wanted something filling. I was underwhelmed by the sandwich unfortunately. The flavors were there but because it was dry that took away from the experience read more
