[[HIGHLIGHT]]Great atmosphere![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Great selection of desserts, trinkets, and snacks! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the decor and it seems fun right when you walk in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The desserts I had were really good. I'll be back to take my kiddies!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Heidelberg Haus aka "The German Bakery" is quite the experience. It's a charming kitschy restaurant that's been around since the 1960's.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Seating options are limited to regular 2-4 top tables, a counter with swivel chairs to sit at but there are no booths.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Admire the extensive pastry displays and a sprawling gift shop while you dine.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Look around and you'll find sassy, snarky and silly German signage--novelty gifts, groceries and other fun items to keep you entertained while waiting for your food[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I really like their stove top potato salad served warm with a hard boiled egg and bacon. Their mustard is good enough to get some to go. So much flavor and great texture in everything! Best to avoid coming on weekends. It's hard to snag a table at peak times for meals. The staff is friendly but the service is on the slower side. Plan on spending at least an hour there if you're sitting down for a meal. The line to checkout is usually pretty long. There should have been someone at both registers on a Saturday afternoon because the line blocks the path to the other areas of the restaurant. We were here today to celebrate a birthday and waited for someone to bring a lighter for the candle for the cake we got up to get ourselves and were promised a birthday song but they got too busy to follow through. You can also order food and pastries to go if you don't want to wait. A good time if you're patient and have time to kill.

Food was great. The desert was amazing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The store is fun.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Can't go wrong! I will say that I normally don't eat potatoe salad, but these were really good.

I have finally found a time to go to Heidelberg Haus and it did not disappoint, I was craving something sweet and it was only a few miles from work I finally drove to it and had the best time [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a short trip so I didn't get to explore much of the store I just know it was a little overwhelming in a good way[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was able to eat some pastries and was able to take some home too Definitely great place to visit The staff were friendly and were able to recommend some pastries I should try next time They have lots of goodies to buy!

Wanted more traditional Christmas cookies this year and knew Heidelberg would have a good selection. They actually had an excellent selection of cookies! You could purchase prepackaged as a variety or purchase individually. We only hit the bakery and were impressed at the selection of cakes and other items.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Heidelberg Haus in Indianapolis is eclectic and full of character. The restaurant tables are scattered throughout the store, creating a unique atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I typically go for the Number 16 (the currywurst) which is sausage with curry ketchup , and it was really flavorful, it felt like eating an authentic meal made with fresh ingredients. The portions are good and the price is very reasonable. The mashed potatoes are incredible, rich and classic German style. For dessert, the hazelnut ice cream with coffee was such a treat, and I was excited to try it because it isn't always available. The bakery is the highlight. I always get a slice of Black Forest cake, but I love trying new cake flavors, cheesecakes, and cookies when I visit. Everything is rich, well-priced, and makes for a memorable experience every time.

Gnomes!

Unique gem of a place. Stop in for breakfast. Great coffee. Great pastries. Friendly service. Buy a pound of cookies to go as a gift for whoever you want to thank in your life. Get them in a clear plastic container so your lucky recipients will see their great treats. And there's no end of German souvenirs and knickknacks, if that's the right word. Make sure to visit, and leave yourself plenty of time to enjoy eating at the counter, walking around the store, and buying treats to go.

Pastries - yum!

I had heard about this restaurant for years, but had never been there. We wanted to try something new, and I was in the mood for German sausage, so we decided to give it a try. It's one of the most charming restaurants I've been in, more of a café, surrounded by a gift shop brimming with German tchotchkes. The sausage were delicious, even the German potato salad, which I usually don't care much for, was very good. I took a few pictures of the pastry case, although we were too full to eat any, but that's just a reason I'll have to go back again sometime!

Stopped by to check this place out on our way home from visiting our new grandson (yes, I'm bragging). [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is such an adorable catch all cafe, bakery, groceries and antiques shop.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We got take out and some meats! The staff explained the items on the menu. They were so patient with my indecision on what to order (I wanted EVERYTHING)

It has been such a joy to experience Heidelberg Haus through the yes of my three year old. From the festive Bavarian music to the murals and gnomes on the exterior, it's such a jolly and fun experience. Our last two visits included exploring the baked treats, partaking in their famous Springerle cookies and purchasing items for friends. The staff is so friendly and patient with kiddos. Angie even treated my son to a free little cookie of his choice from the case. His day was made. Cannot recommend this spot for adults (and Khufu's) enough.

A true gem and a great experience. My friend raved about this place and I didn't even know it existed! I am so happy I stopped in. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have like 5 stools when you first walk in, that's where we sat at, but they have more tables to offer around the restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you like trinkets, this will be heaven to you. There are so many fun and cute things to purchase. We ordered two meals and 3 desserts. I tried the kielbasa dinner with potato salad, pickles and bread. Simple and delicious! I loved the spicy mustard! For dessert I ordered the mandarin cream cake, and MAN it was soooooo good! I also tried the German chocolate cake, I had to! I will definitely be back!

When we went on a Friday night, there was live music on the biergarten's patio, but it was so loud that even indoors, you could not hear your conversation. Upon arrival, even though we had a reservation, and there were only four other tables dining, service was pretty slow to be seated and the poor waitresses seemed overwhelmed. I will say the waitstaff is exceptionally friendly, even with a busier biergarten. The food, I'm sorry to say, leaves much to be desired. Presentation is unappetizing, and as some other Yelpers have mentioned, the meal is definitely not a feast for the eyes. I wish I could say the flavor was better, but everything was bland and underseasoned. My husband, who's never met a sauerkraut he didn't adore, could not even finish his meal. The portions are small for the price, but honestly, the flavor was so underwhelming it didn't matter how much was on the plate. The decor seems very throwback, replete with tourist tchotchkes and and faded pictures of Germany. The dark wood paneling does lend a moody, Germanic air, and from what I understand, they have a large selection of beers on tap.

The food is great. German Food is hard to come by, and this is much closer than the Rathskellar…read moreDowntown, or Heidelberg House in Lawrence. I typically get the Sausage Trio, which provides a good variety to sample. One suggestion is to call before you come, since it is a smaller restaurant and may be busy during the buffet, or may close early because it is slow.

I loved the cute mug, and the hot cider was great. I especially liked the food from Rathskeller- I highly recommend the brat n kraut balls- they were delicious. There was live music which I enjoyed a lot.

Parked in the parking garage next to the Athenaeum with a parking app for a reasonable price and spent hours in the area. Had lunch at The Rathskeller and came back to visit the market for snacks and mulled wine/ciders/drafts. The treats included the raclette sandwich, bacon lollipop, German potato pancakes (Kartoffelpuffer), Brauhaus pretzel, German bratwurst, schnitzel, gingerbread cookies, baked goods. The process for picking up food orders could be improved upon. Told to come back in 20 minutes and came back but the server appeared confused when we told him our order, then said wasn't ready yet, saw other people who ordered after us get their orders, and eventually after a couple more inquiries received our order. A pager system or a number/now serving screen would be useful way to communicate ready orders. Took home a cute collector mug and got to drink my tasty mulled cider from it while there. If I had decided to get another drink, it would be $1 less for subsequent fills. It was entertaining to watch the costumed characters tease the children and guests and the various performers cross the stage. There were a couple of artisan stalls to peruse as well. Really appreciated the heat lamps scattered throughout the area as this season was chiller than usual. It's a brief stop that brings the holiday spirit!

Vegan friendly which is great for a burger place. You can come here and pig out while bringing someone who doesn't enjoy the slaughter - a big plus for extended family outings. A couple of other pros are there is a whole freaking parking lot which is unusual but awesome. The full bar has plenty of options including great craft beer. Last but not least the cheese curds are the best in Indy that I'm aware of. I've had a couple of their burgers so far and I don't think you can go wrong with them. The Motörhead is basically a Greek style burger which I found to be exceptional. Burgers are cooked to how you like it so execution is also phenomenal. The Neurosis is your Swiss and mushroom style burger, also great. While it's tempting to go off of the name when ordering I would try to make sure the palette matches your tastes - there's way too many options. Big portions so plan to carry around a to go box after.
