Great atmosphere! Great selection of desserts, trinkets, and snacks! I love the decor and it seems fun right when you walk in. The desserts I had were really good. I'll be back to take my kiddies!

Heidelberg Haus aka "The German Bakery" is quite the experience. It's a charming kitschy restaurant that's been around since the 1960's. Seating options are limited to regular 2-4 top tables, a counter with swivel chairs to sit at but there are no booths. Admire the extensive pastry displays and a sprawling gift shop while you dine. Look around and you'll find sassy, snarky and silly German signage--novelty gifts, groceries and other fun items to keep you entertained while waiting for your food. I really like their stove top potato salad served warm with a hard boiled egg and bacon. Their mustard is good enough to get some to go. So much flavor and great texture in everything! Best to avoid coming on weekends. It's hard to snag a table at peak times for meals. The staff is friendly but the service is on the slower side. Plan on spending at least an hour there if you're sitting down for a meal. The line to checkout is usually pretty long. There should have been someone at both registers on a Saturday afternoon because the line blocks the path to the other areas of the restaurant. We were here today to celebrate a birthday and waited for someone to bring a lighter for the candle for the cake we got up to get ourselves and were promised a birthday song but they got too busy to follow through. You can also order food and pastries to go if you don't want to wait. A good time if you're patient and have time to kill.

Wanted more traditional Christmas cookies this year and knew Heidelberg would have a good selection. They actually had an excellent selection of cookies! You could purchase prepackaged as a variety or purchase individually. We only hit the bakery and were impressed at the selection of cakes and other items.

I have finally found a time to go to Heidelberg Haus and it did not disappoint, I was craving something sweet and it was only a few miles from work I finally drove to it and had the best time It was a short trip so I didn't get to explore much of the store I just know it was a little overwhelming in a good way I was able to eat some pastries and was able to take some home too Definitely great place to visit The staff were friendly and were able to recommend some pastries I should try next time They have lots of goodies to buy!

Heidelberg Haus in Indianapolis is eclectic and full of character. The restaurant tables are scattered throughout the store, creating a unique atmosphere. I typically go for the Number 16 (the currywurst) which is sausage with curry ketchup , and it was really flavorful, it felt like eating an authentic meal made with fresh ingredients. The portions are good and the price is very reasonable. The mashed potatoes are incredible, rich and classic German style. For dessert, the hazelnut ice cream with coffee was such a treat, and I was excited to try it because it isn't always available. The bakery is the highlight. I always get a slice of Black Forest cake, but I love trying new cake flavors, cheesecakes, and cookies when I visit. Everything is rich, well-priced, and makes for a memorable experience every time.

I had heard about this restaurant for years, but had never been there. We wanted to try something new, and I was in the mood for German sausage, so we decided to give it a try. It's one of the most charming restaurants I've been in, more of a café, surrounded by a gift shop brimming with German tchotchkes. The sausage were delicious, even the German potato salad, which I usually don't care much for, was very good. I took a few pictures of the pastry case, although we were too full to eat any, but that's just a reason I'll have to go back again sometime!

Stopped by to check this place out on our way home from visiting our new grandson (yes, I'm bragging). This is such an adorable catch all cafe, bakery, groceries and antiques shop. We got take out and some meats! The staff explained the items on the menu. They were so patient with my indecision on what to order (I wanted EVERYTHING)

It has been such a joy to experience Heidelberg Haus through the yes of my three year old. From the festive Bavarian music to the murals and gnomes on the exterior, it's such a jolly and fun experience. Our last two visits included exploring the baked treats, partaking in their famous Springerle cookies and purchasing items for friends. The staff is so friendly and patient with kiddos. Angie even treated my son to a free little cookie of his choice from the case. His day was made. Cannot recommend this spot for adults (and Khufu's) enough.

A true gem and a great experience. My friend raved about this place and I didn't even know it existed! I am so happy I stopped in. They have like 5 stools when you first walk in, that's where we sat at, but they have more tables to offer around the restaurant. If you like trinkets, this will be heaven to you. There are so many fun and cute things to purchase. We ordered two meals and 3 desserts. I tried the kielbasa dinner with potato salad, pickles and bread. Simple and delicious! I loved the spicy mustard! For dessert I ordered the mandarin cream cake, and MAN it was soooooo good! I also tried the German chocolate cake, I had to! I will definitely be back!

On my first visit today, I had the Hot Wurst sausage sampler plate that was wonderful! But watch out for the spicy mustard! It's eye watering!! & the "original 6" beer sampler was delicious! The only (big) thing that tainted my experience was the extremely loud waitstaff having very, very loud conversations (it really shouldn't involve constant yelling & screaming), behind the scenes. Their voices echoed throughout the space & were a constant annoyance to an otherwise wonderful meal. That was a real dealbreaker for me. If it's the same next time, I won't be revisiting.

The old Bavarian charm remains throughout the restaurant. Our visit this time was prior to the MJ MUSICAL at Old National. It's right across the street. The staff is well aware of their diner's itinerary and backs certain you can enjoy cocktails, wine, and dinner in time for the 7:00 pm start time. I applaud that courtesy. It was evident that our server, Cindy was a seasoned employee (20 years). Her attention throughout our visit left us wanting for nothing. I noticed many times her surveying our table for refills, empty plates. Her big smile and friendly personality only added to the exceptional experience. The food is prepared in the traditional German style. It is rich and very filling. The portions are enormous. Our party enjoyed an appetizer of Brat & Kraut balls and entrees of Schnitzel Parm., Jäeger schnitzel, spinach dinner salad with hot bacon dressing and my favorite "Oxtail Soup". Just the item for a cold winter night. Patrons of OLD NATIONAL CENTER shows should start their evening off right with dinner at THE RATHSKELLER. You won't be disappointed.

Parked in the parking garage next to the Athenaeum with a parking app for a reasonable price and spent hours in the area. Had lunch at The Rathskeller and came back to visit the market for snacks and mulled wine/ciders/drafts. The treats included the raclette sandwich, bacon lollipop, German potato pancakes (Kartoffelpuffer), Brauhaus pretzel, German bratwurst, schnitzel, gingerbread cookies, baked goods. The process for picking up food orders could be improved upon. Told to come back in 20 minutes and came back but the server appeared confused when we told him our order, then said wasn't ready yet, saw other people who ordered after us get their orders, and eventually after a couple more inquiries received our order. A pager system or a number/now serving screen would be useful way to communicate ready orders. Took home a cute collector mug and got to drink my tasty mulled cider from it while there. If I had decided to get another drink, it would be $1 less for subsequent fills. It was entertaining to watch the costumed characters tease the children and guests and the various performers cross the stage. There were a couple of artisan stalls to peruse as well. Really appreciated the heat lamps scattered throughout the area as this season was chiller than usual. It's a brief stop that brings the holiday spirit!

There's a bit of grunge aesthetic too. I opted for the patio seating on the nice day that I visited. Service worked pretty quickly and friendly. I got a mocktail to start that was cranberry, orange, and pineapple juice. It was pretty yummy. I was far more impressed by the foooood! My partner and I split a burger and Mac and cheese. The size small was $9 and was honestly huge. It was definitely enough food for two. The burger we got was also a good size, and came with a lot of shoestring onion on top. The burger was $18 but it's a 10 oz patty which is practically a better deal than most other burgers out there. I'll be back again sometime for sure!

Convenient location. Zero proof drinks. There were some reviews about long wait times, non-toasted buns and the cost but the write up of the place itself gave me nostalgia vibes for a place called Cobra Burger in Richmond, VA so I had to try my luck. I really wanted to love this place, as I've not found anything like Cobra Burger here in Indy. When we arrived, around 6:45p on a Thursday, the patio had a good amount of people, but inside was pretty empty apart from the bar. We sat at a two top in the bar area. The music was at a pretty low volume, especially considering the amount of reviews that said otherwise. Our server was also bartender, so it initially took her a couple of minutes to come over, which is understandable. She took our order for drinks and then after bringing them back for the food. She was nice and provided good service although juggling tables and the bar, plus she was also pregnant. It took a very long time for us to get our food (close to an hour), despite three guys working the line in the kitchen, banging out burger after burger. The food arrived, hot and correct. Both my husband and I were disappointed that the reviews were right and the burger buns were not toasted. Non-toasted burger buns actually make the burgers harder to eat and less enjoyable. My burger was decent for a non-handmade vegan option; for the price my expectation is amor sophisticated/handmade creative one, but I am thankful that they had a vegan option at all. My husband thought his burger was just okay and that he's had better ones around Indy, so we probably won't be dining here again. For the size of the burger, they should bring you ample napkins without having to ask because it is very messy trying to eat them. For two burgers with fries, one small mac & cheese, and three beers (one regular and two nonalcoholic) before tip the bill was over $80. Now, if the food was top-tier fantastic, I would say fine but being that it was more middle of the road it's a bit pricey.
