Possibly the best croissants that I've ever had, including France. I kid you not, these house made croissants are the flakiest, melt in your mouth, best! The locally owned shop is dang cute and tiny. You walk right into the kitchen and order off the bakers rack. The staff was friendly and helpful to us first timers. We picked up a savory ham and cheese croissant and one of their popular cinnamon rolls. The pastries are pricey but huge and shareable. The cinnamon roll melts in your mouth. The icing is light and addictive. There is a charming natural garden and patio with seating to sit, relax and eat outside. They also sell fresh assorted breads. Parking is limited in their tiny reserved lot. There were four spaces. If I lived closer, I'd be here every morning. It's that good. read more

Love this small business. Wifey totally loves their cinnamon bread and their carrot cakes, they're very tasty. As for their chocolate croissant, compared to any EU local/small bakeries, the chocolate filling is very minute relative to the size of the croissant. In EU (even their convenient stores) , they're very generous with their chocolate fillings. But it's not just Rene's, most chocolate croissant in US (just the many places we've been to, so there might be gems out there that have generous chocolate fillings) doesn't have much filling. Service is great, especially in packaging the goods. It's a very small space so only 2 parties at a time allowed to avoid crowding at the counter. Overall, will be a repeat customer here. read more

Manager- you need to teach your cashiers how to count money, math skills and the importance of giving customers accurate information. They obviously don't know this yet. My recent sale total, I was told, by the cashier, was $5.72. I gave him $6.02 so I would get 30 cents back (I wanted no pennies back.) He was completely flummoxed, even after I explained it to him. He gave me the wrong change back, and when I told him and explained it again, including how he was cheating the store by giving me too much back, he still didn't understand. Nor did the staff in the background who were all listening in and sending me passive-aggressive stares. ! (No one stepped up to help him, by the way.) However, the total on my actual receipt was different than the total he verbally told me. (It was $5.50.) If I had known this from the get-go, I would've given him a different amount of money. Why in the world didn't he tell me the right amount? On my receipt, which I did not see until after the transaction was over, it said there was a cash discount. Their croissants aren't the usual croissants, it's syrup flavor and croissant in a wholesome combination! Warm syrupy and delicious in every layer! Rene just was worth the hype! I'm not sure how I went so long without trying Rene's Bakery - it's a very small place but the consistent lines I saw out the door told me all I needed to know about the high quality of their goodies. They recently reopened under new ownership and it's good they did, as they are a beloved staple in Broad Ripple. The service was very personal and welcoming while deciding what to order. Tiny shop, but amazing bakery! It's literally so small inside that 3 customers wouldn't have room to breathe, but it's worth it. I only mention how small it is because I want people to understand that they may need to wait outside if there are other people in when they arrive. But the bread! The granola! The croissants! The tarts! They have truly incredible food. I wanted to buy everything, but of course that wasn't reasonable. We did purchase a loaf of their rye bread, croissants, granola, and a couple of cookies for the kids. All were delicious, and I could easily see myself eating something from this bakery every day and never getting bored. This is the place to be for pastries. We arrived on a Saturday morning and there was a long line of people waiting. The storefront is very small so only a couple customers can stand inside at a time. Overall, it was a bit overwhelming. I wish they had a menu posted outside that you could read while waiting, as it did take a while for us to get through the line. As a loyal past Rene's customer, I really wanted to love them now that they have new ownership since the late and great Albert passed. I tried three different croissants this morning-- ham & cheese, almond, and a plain. Unfortunately, none of them were completely baked in the middle, resulting in a center that was essentially just a tad beyond raw dough. I need to take a star away too for the excessive oil/butter content that soaked through the bag and made each bite ooze. I know croissants have alot of butter, but these were over the top. I decided to give them a call because they wouldn't know about the problem unless someone gave them a heads up.....who knows, maybe their oven has an issue? When I moved to Indy a little over a year ago, I was excited to try Rene's and never quite found a time in my schedule to visit before they closed. Now that they are open again, I have enjoyed several delicious visits and can definitely see what all the fuss is about. So far I've only tried the pastries, but every one was a beautifully laminated, perfectly flaky, wonderfully flavored treat. I've had their plain buttered croissants, blackberry danish, vanilla croissant, almond croissant, almond-filled pan au chocolat, and more, each with its own distinctly yummy flavors. My favorite so far is the vanilla croissant, since it has a much lighter sweetness. Everyone at the bakery is very friendly and kind, helping you pick out exactly what you're craving that day. The place is tiny, so only a couple groups are allowed in at once, which is also something I love since I often get to have short little chats with other pastry-goers. Blueberry one was the best one of the ones we had, but wish it was warm and toasted! It was also the flakiest of the three. Not enough filling in the other two croissants and the croissant parts weren't flakey enough (more bready / chew) but some people like that style. I prefer an ultra buttery and flakey layers in mine. No seating inside, but there's cute chairs and tables outside. There's a sink inside where you can wash your hands before (and after) eating your sweets. Seems like a fun local spot! read more

This was my first visit to Renee's Bakery and came highly recommended by several friends. I purchased the Chia Pudding and a Cream Puff. Both were absolute heaven! The baker told me he had just started making a new version of the Cream Puffs which have a cracked surface appearance. It was sooo delicious. This bakery is well worth the visit. The pumpkin chocolate chip muffin was very good as was the peanut butter chocolate chip cookie. Chocolate croissant was ok, but I did not think the pastry was very good. NOT HAVE AGAIN: Cinnamon rolls were not very good. Lightweight, dry, not very sweet and I threw away parts, particularly the outsides. Gee whiz. My world and Rene's Bakery's world aligned, and I was able to visit when they were open and I was in Broad Ripple. I feel like every time I tried to visit, Rene's was closed. I was starting to become resentful of Rene's Bakery because they were seemingly always closed whenever I wanted to visit. But I was in Broad Ripple on a nice late summer afternoon. And hey -- Rene's Bakery was open! So I practically ran to the little bakery. My heart was pounding. Could this be the day that I get to visit Rene's? It indeed was. I pulled on the door handle and it opened! And there was a person behind the counter there to welcome me. There are just some places that you vibe with immediately, and Rene's Bakery is that place. I immediately let go of any residual resentment I was holding onto with Rene's and succumbed to the offerings behind the bakery case. They had all kinds of sweet baked goods, but as soon as I saw the almond croissants, I knew that's what I wanted. The guy behind the counter offered to warm up my almond croissant, and homey and I had a little chat about children and weekend plans while the croissant warmed up. He called me mama and handed me my croissant, and I headed straight to my car to eat it because Rene's doesn't have a place to sit and eat. It's a to-go joint, for sure. You know you're eating a superior croissant (in your car) when you get croissant crumbs and powdered sugar all over your shirt. I was a mess! But this was a delicious mess. This is now my to-go place for almond croissants. I'm hoping to visit Rene's again at some point when the stars align and it is open and I am in the neighborhood. I hope this happens soon. read more

Earlier this year I was at the Mexican place next door and saw the bakery. Alas it was a Sunday so I could not enjoy it, as they were closed. I made it my mission to visit because the reviews were phenomenal. And you know what? They were right. THE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE IS AMAZING! Melt in your mouth amazing. My regret is I only got one! The slice of chocolate cake with mouse and buttercream was very good. Too rich for my stomach that day but I liked it. The apple bread pudding thing was very tasty as well. I can't wait to return! The front worker was super nice. There are no prices in front of items (boo! That's annoying) but he was nice and answered questions. I've been trying to go to Rene's for a while but for some reason it just never worked out. The time I finally walked over to get unfortunately they all had Covid! Had a friend bring me an almond croissant the other day while I was under the weather (closed down Patron Saint as a 33 year old, ouch). If it wasn't the best pastry I've ever had. Like ever. Like. How is it so good? Went back the following morning and got it again, even better straight from the source. IMMACULATE!!! Rene's is a small walk-in bakery shop located right in the heart of Broad Ripple off the Monon. Rene's has PERFECTED their craft and you can taste the love and joy that is baked into each item they create! M and I decided to go here one day on a whim after I had been wanting to go since 2021!!! Parking was easy for us, but please be cautious where you park as some places may tow. We got a Buttered Croissant, 2 Ham & Cheese Croissants, and a Pastry with powdered sugar on it. We were fortunate enough to get there about 10 minutes before the Ham and Cheese croissants were ready to come out of the oven. These were the softest and yummiest Ham & Cheese croissants I have ever had! The service was awesome, quick, and easy. The case of baked goods is pretty small and was filled with cakes and macaroons when I was there. I peered in the back and saw rows of croissants, scones, muffins, and more that I inquired about. They gave me all the details and I chose an orange iced croissant (the one that looks like a cinnamon roll almost), two strawberry scones, and a chocolate croissant. They were all sooooo good. I think it'd be helpful to have a daily menu posted or more featured in the glass case, as I wasn't sure what I could order beyond the small case of desserts.
