Coat Check Coffee is lovely. Located right off of Mass Ave. in the beautiful Athenaeum, this space has so much to offer. There are loads of local businesses inside the Athenaeum and as a fun tip, if you are a member of Turner Gym, you get 10% off your Coat Check coffee. I decided to take advantage of that the other day and got myself a delicious Chai latte. I love their presentation and the expansive mugs their drinks are served in. It feels like indulging in a little luxury. When I really want something special, I get their pistachio latte. It's super tasty! They have baked goods as well and the from my experience, the staff working are kind and friendly. There's loads of open seating scattered throughout this floor of the building. There's loads is also some quiet seating one floor up that I believe faces a gallery wall. Every time I come here I notice something new! Highly recommend checking it out. There is street parking, garage parking, and if you're willing to walk a few blocks, free parking not far as well. Enjoy!

Biscuit Sandwich - Egg & Cheese w/ jalapeño jam (yum)

First time I went to coat check it was a hidden gem. The people now know because dang was it busy today! Had to wait almost 15 minutes for latte and breakfast sandwich. Biscuit was worth the wait; SALTY and perfectly CRISPY on the outside, FLUFFY on the inside. Egg is also fluffy. Tried the seasonal latte, very sweet and not super warm which was a bummer. Next time I'll get my usually, the Golden milk which is also sweet but has a fun spice/lime taste.

Listen, Coat Check! was unfamiliar with your biscuit game! I knew the coffee was good. I knew the vibes were strong. I knew the service was going to come with a shot of melancholy and societal angst, BUT when I got that biscuit...when I got THAT biscuit...what I got THAT MUTHA LOVIN BISCUIT SANDWICH I was NOT ready! Yo, I ordered the sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit sandwich and the biscuit was like Red Lobster cheddar bay biscuits met an "Aunty" with a little jiggle under the arm and MADE MAGIC! It was big, fluffy, and flavorful! I was trying to listen to the person across from me, but my mind kept swirling with mixed thoughts of loving the biscuit and then lamenting that it would soon be gone! I considered myself to be a breakfast sandwich and biscuit connoisseur...imma say it...Coat Check has a Top 3 breakfast sandwich in Indy and it's not number 3! Argue with your mama! That is unless she is in the Coat Check kitchen mentoring a gender non-conforming chef in the way of biscuit love! In that case...let Aunty cook!

Coat Check is such an aesthetic coffee shop. If you have someone visiting in Indy, Coat Check is definitely an awesome spot to take them. The coffee is really good and you can walk around and see the art and mini museum while you wait for your coffee. The service was amazing and everyone was nice and helpful. The coffee came out quick, so that was a plus. Another plus about Coat Check is the many restaurants around the coffee shop on Mass Ave.

Cute coffee shop! Lots of paid parking out front. I ordered a vanilla latte, it was pretty tasty. The only downside was the WIFI, it wasn't great at all. Because of this I had to find another shop to work at.

Inside the Anthanaeum building. Look for the labeled doors on E Michigan St at the southeast corner of the intersection with Massachusetts Ave. Located in a spacious corner of the common area of the building. I had the seasonal Winter Spice Latte with oat milk (the only milk alternative choice). It was delicious. I didn't try any of the pastries but they had an enticing selection of them. There is WiFi (no password) available from the general Anthanaeum space.

GREAT PLACE FOR A HOT BEVERAGE AND SNACK ON MASS AVE =================================================== I visited a great place for coffee and stuff on Saturday, August 9th, with my son. He took my husband and I to one of his favorite places to get a hot beverage and something to eat. I really loved my matcha latte which included some art. My son told us we could go upstairs inside the Athenaeum to find a place to sit down which was really nice. There are lots of comfortable chairs and tables up there. We also shared a donut that was really good. That whole building is beautiful as well as being historic, so it's a great place to go and just soak up the ambiance.

OMFG WHAT A COMEBACK!!!! I was a patron of Coat Check through a few cycles and OMFG ITS BACK!!! The shop is now run by that athenaeum and it's got its groove back. Prices are in line with the neighborhood but you still get the amazing atmosphere of the athenaeum. Breakfast sandwich here is crack, I've eaten 2 in the same day.

Chocolate Croissant

I'm absolutely obsessed with Coat Check Coffee after visiting this Sunday morning! I ordered a Butterscotch Latte--perfectly balanced and topped with a toasted orange peel that smelled incredible. My group tried a matcha latte and a chocolate latte, and both were described as refreshing and delicious. Of course, we couldn't skip the bakery case--a chocolate croissant was a must. Not only was it one of the prettiest croissants I've ever seen, but it was also flaky, rich, and so satisfying. The service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere was lively and inviting. Since it's located within the Rathskeller Biergarten, you also get to take in a bit of German history and tradition while you're there. Upstairs, there's even a small (but free) art exhibit worth checking out. Overall, it's the perfect coffee stop while exploring Indianapolis!

Really charming spot in a beautiful historic building. The building alone is worth the visit. We stopped in later in the day and didn't end up getting hot food, as the kitchen appeared to be wrapping up about 30 minutes before closing. Totally understandable at the end of the day, but there weren't any signs indicating the kitchen closes earlier than the café itself, so just something to be aware of if you're planning to order food. They were still able to do their biscuit and the granola (my toddler loved this). I had an iced vanilla latte, but next time want to try the butterscotch. It was good, but the building is the best part!

Coat check has great coffee in a cool part of the Athenaeum. Plenty of seating to chat or work. The specialty lattes are delicious hot or iced - the butterscotch and tiramisu are my faves. They also have a handful of food items (breakfast sandwich, BLT, pastry case) - note they cannot heat anything from the pastry case. My ham and cheese croissant was a little hard because of that, but still tasty. I look forward to more coffee stops here when exploring Mass Ave!

Loved coat Check coffee when we were in Indianapolis! We tried a few coffee shops during our stay, but all agreed that Coat Check was our favorite. Located in a historical building within walking distance of Mass Ave, Gainsbridge, and the circle. It was a convenient stop before our destination. Once inside, you're greeted with friendly staff and a good amount of space to work, chill, or chat. The breakfast sandwiches were a huge hit with the group. In addition, the latte's were both unique and strong. It had a good balance espresso to milk ratio. The matcha comes unsweetened, but can be sweetened to your desire. If I'm back in indy, it'll definitely be our first place to grab coffee in the morning.

Stopped in for a coffee with my daughter. She ordered the butterscotch iced latte and I ordered the lavender iced latte...both were delicious choices. She had a craving for a sweet treat so she got the orange cinnamon roll. It was delightful and very citrusy! Definitely a pleasant treat, almost like an exuberant citrus surprise for your tastebuds. Hats off to the baker for making this! The staff was friendly and very sufficient as it was a busy time. Definitely will be back. On the plus side, we enjoyed the hallway with the history lessons on the walls...lots of fun facts and stories about our state and its surroundings.

Too excited to wait to take the picture before i started eating

I finally decided on the Breakfast Sandwich which was made on one of their house-made flaky, buttery croissants. The hot sandwich had City ham, bacon, egg and Gruyère cheese. It was decadent and delicious. My husband had a Potato and Fontinella cheese danish, which he devoured and enjoyed. The staff is super friendly and attentive. The food was delivered quickly. I thought prices were reasonable. The dining area has a modern industrial vibe. There are tables or comfy seating if you want to kick back. There were several people sipping coffee and working in the small work space. Free WiFi is available. The outdoor patio looks inviting during warmer weather. We were able to find free street parking directly in front of the building. I highly recommend!!!! Easy 5 stars.

My boyfriend and I came on Mother's day (unintentionally) and we waited about 10-15 minutes to sit at the bar. Getting our orders taken & our food served definitely took a bit of time, but we enjoyed seeing all the cooks in action and getting to smell all the amazing smells!! I got Grandpa's one pan skillet and my boyfriend got the sausage breakfast sandwich on croissant bread. All I gotta say is those chefs definitely knew what they were doing! The flavors were unique and intentional and I enjoyed every bite. The home fries (potatoes) were also so yummy and everything was cooked really well. There's nothing basic about borage and I love that! This place is a gem. They also have a cafe/market area where you can order drinks and pastries. I wish we waited until we got seated to order drinks because the menu was much more extensive than what I saw in the cafe and I would have ordered a different drink had I seen all the other options. The staff here are also very welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed our little brunch and will be back with family next time!

Yes, these are quite a bit pricer that's for sure. People were buying one of everything in line. I was like wow! Some Items the combinations of flavors didn't appeal to me. I love tiramisu and pecan pie so I got them both. One suggestion I would have is to have utensils and napkins at the table for people to use. The pastries I bought are really temperature sensitive and need to be kept cold. Both had a cream - mousse inside. They wouldn't last long only a day or to the next. I loved the pecan item I ordered. It was great! The tiramisu one I wouldn't order again. The bottom flakey part was so bitter. I love coffee and expresso and tiramisu. But, the whole thing just wasn't what I thought it would taste like. Now I know. :-( Creamy, sweet, smooth, with a kick of coffee all come together to make a great tiramisu. This is what most people love about it. I don't know if they are planning on opening a store or not. The pop ups are doing well it seems. I will try other items whenever I can get to one of the pop ups.

What went from ordering 1 pastry each turned into 8 total.. and we regret nothing. The Tiramisu Danish was exactly as I had hoped for! The bitter taste of espresso paired with the sweet mascarpone cream filling reminded me of the holidays when I would watch my mom make tiramisu for our family. While a lot of people prefer a sweeter espresso, I thought this was perfect and very true to a traditional tiramisu taste The Pear Kouglof reminded me of a fresh yeast donut that's been tossed in sugar This was a very kid-friendly pastry in taste and while I wasn't too blown away by it, it did make me wonder if I would have preferred it with a stronger, more potent, fruit. The Cherry Basque Cheesecake -- this pastry was the house favorite. The texture of this cheesecake was creamy, but somehow still spongey.. cakey, but more like pudding. Mix that with the juiciest sour cherries and the crunch of a biscoff crust.. mind blown was an understatement. We're looking forward to what Beurre Sec has planned for their next pop-up

I've driven by the Bakery, so many times and wanted to stop, but I was always in a hurry. My sister and I went in and we each got a dessert and because it was four in the afternoon, we got decaffeinated coffee. The refills were free and we sat at the little counter like we were at a diner and enjoyed everything about this iconic little bakery. The decor is a eclectic. We just took our time and looked around and laughed at so many signs and odd little things that were placed over the years. On the way to the ladies room, you will find out that the gentleman that started the restaurant fought in one of the world wars, and you will see his worn out shoes, his uniforms, his letters of accommodation and Learn his story. Now let's get to the desserts. We shared some type of a wonderful lemon pastry and a black forest cake. Best black forest cake I've ever had. Savored every bite. We were able to buy the last of the springle's that they had made from Christmas. FYI, if you don't like black licorice don't buy Springerle's but you can only get them at Christmas because it's a German tradition and they won't work in the summertime because of the humidity. Things that I learned that day. We saw that they had a dinner menu with a huge variety of different bratwurst and assorted sausages that we would like to try sometime.
