My Earl Grey latte had that kind of thick, creamy foam that almost looks like marshmallow fluff. Yum! I ordered it with oat milk (one of the milk alternative options). They really know how to do a good latte here at Illumine Coffee, even a tea latte, and even a tea latte made with a milk alternative. I don't usually get lattes, but I was feeling a little indulgent. My go-to is a black coffee. I seem to remember visiting Illumine Coffee once before, and I believe I got the house drip coffee, and I think I thought it was OK. I need to visit again and get the black coffee and see if my opinion about their black coffee has changed. Illumine was packed when I visited on a weekday morning. Every single table and chair was occupied, but I managed to sit at a table with a couple of ladies who weren't using the other side of their table. After a while (maybe 20 minutes or so), I was able to get a table to myself, but trust me when I say: At certain times of the day, tables are a hot commodity at Illumine! So if you plan to work remotely, which a lot of people were, keep in mind that you might need to fight off a few people first. There are some baked goods available from local bakeries, including 4 Birds, A&M Baked Goods and Moonlight Baking Company. You'll find things like cinnamon rolls, coffee cake, cookies, muffins, croissants, donuts and even a kouign amann. They also have breakfast sandwiches and lunch sandwiches, both served until 4:30 p.m. Basically, Illumine is a much-needed spot in Nora to grab coffee and a pastry. The service was friendly, the wifi was strong, the bathrooms were clean, and there's a good sized parking lot right out front. The vibes were pretty chill and you could tell they cultivate a community here, just based on the customer interactions that I noticed. I ordered a matcha and it was pretty basic, nothing too exciting. That said, they had a nice drink menu that included some seasonal options along with food. Illumine Coffee sits off Westfield Blvd in a small complex that is close to North Central High School. In Nora, it features your standard coffee menu, but I would have to say that the latte was one of the better ones. It was $5, and I got mine with 2% milk. There's an up charge of $1 for alternative milk. Always a gripe of mine because the people who cannot have dairy should not get up charged essentially 15-20%. I think though most coffee shops do, but it's not very "illuminating" in my opinion. The vibe is definitely one that encourages either deep conversation or Lofi study vibes. Such an awesome neighborhood coffee shop. Super cute and laid back vibes. This place does fill up quickly, so just keep that in mind when you're rolling in around 10am to snag a table (lol!). I sent in my brother-in-law to get my coffee from here since I love this place. I was going to order from the app as Cold Brew-add Carrot Cake cold foam-with Brown Sugar Oatmilk, as it is easily to order from the app. My brother-in-law told me no, and he will order it at the coffee shop. He comes back telling me that the cashier gave a "mean mug" look when he said my order, and that the cashier made the drink wrong. He left me without asking them to remake them because the workers told him "Don't make a mess, we just cleaned there" and because of the look the cashier gave him, plus it was 40 minutes from closing. Why are you cleaning 40 minutes before closing? I work at a service industry, and it's not appropriate and bad hospitality to attend to your clients this way. I enjoyed this coffee shop, but his experience made me genuinely upset. I know I was taught to treat every customer the same, even if they come in 10 minutes before. read more

This feels like more than a coffee shop. I've been twice and both times, I've had a laugh with the baristas and ran into a friend or two. It felt very communal in the best way. The owners are super sweet and care about their community. I personally don't drink a lot of coffee but I know it's good quality and I enjoyed a fun holiday latte last time I was there that I loved. They also have tea options and locally baked goods. The seating situation is really good here. There are a lot of tables with chairs that are perfectly set up for co-working. There is also a seating area up front without tables for those who want to relax with good conversation instead of laptops. We had a plug by our table so were able to co-work easily. Illumine has a free parking lot and is only a few blocks off The Monon. After you stop in, I highly recommend stopping in Global Gifts next door or Chris' Ice Cream across the street for Indy's #1 tacos (yes, they make both ice cream and tacos from scratch). It's super cute in here! The colors are cheery, this croissant was different from any chocolate croissant I've ever had but equally as delicious. My friend got a breakfast sandwich and loved it. I finally had a chance to check out this great coffee shop after reading so many stellar reviews. The space was bustling with to go orders alongside those having meetings and coworking. The staff was friendly and you could tell they take their coffee seriously. Note that they roast their own beans. you can see a little of the magic in the back of the building. I thoroughly enjoyed my cafe miel latte alongside the natural light that pours into the space. I look forward to picking up beans and exploring more of the menu next time. Thanks to the Yelp event I tried the Maple Vanilla Latte with half sugar and it was excellent! Not too sweet and I'm a sucker for anything maple. I feel the need to disclose that I am not a coffee drinker...nor do I consume caffeine (at least the amount that is found in coffee and other caffeinated beverages)...however, I am a hot chocolate drinker. So, it was to my delight that they offered hot chocolate as an option. The hot chocolate was tasty and I loved the artistic foam on top. The only thing missing for this gal...was whipped cream. The absence of whipped cream didn't take away from the experience...however, it is something that adds to the experience for me...especially, if it is topped with mini chocolate cups or chocolate syrup. Brighten up your morning with a delightful stop at Illumine! This is my new favorite spot for coffee. It's full of sunlight with a front wall of windows and has lots of tables to set up shop and work on your laptop. We stopped in this morning as a family and got a mix of drinks, hot and iced. We had a pair of lattes that were diverse in flavor and sweetness. My wife said "there's definitely something for everyone!" (That included a large chocolate chip cookie ) The folks behind the counter were awesome and not only served up some excellent coffee quickly, we also got into a fantastically nerdy conversation. I recently started working in this area and typically just drive across 86th Westbound, so I never saw this spot. However, a local friend mentioned it so I thought I'd stop in. It has always been true that I'm a sucker for kindness. Since my cancer diagnosis just before Christmas, I think this has become even more true. As someone who is single with very little family around, it has become increasingly important to surround myself with people, places, and things that I find healing. I'd wanted to check out Illumine Coffee since I learned that they'd opened in the small strip center at 86th and Westfield directly next to the relocated Global Gifts. However, my schedule doesn't quite click with theirs and I simply don't find myself in this area as much as I used to. However, I had a day off for election day today and decided to get some errands done since my stamina seemed better than it has for a while. I stopped in to Illumine and decided I'd also check out the new spot for Global Gifts. Illumine Coffee is connected to the Indianapolis Art Center's Coffee Counter, which I also love, and also the Garfield Park Summer Farmer's Market. Illumine Coffee is a missional coffee roaster and shop that donates 10% of their profits to community organizations. It's locally owned by Kent and Anna Phillips. If you wonder why I loved the vibe so much read this directly from their website - "At illumine, we value exceptional coffee, intentionality and care for our customers, and generosity and kindness towards one another." It's truly no wonder that as soon as I entered, I felt welcomed. Illumine is, as I noted, located in a strip center just south of East 86th Street directly on Westfield Boulevard. There's also a holistic pet wellness clinic at the other end of the building along with Cater Me and a couple other businesses. Global Gifts relocated from their spot near Whole Foods to this building just before Illumine opened up, however, they are right next to each other and a seriously dynamic duo. I parked at the south end of the strip center since a spot allowing me accessibility was open, however, I quickly figured out that the best way to access the building to get to Illumine is on the north end. There's a ramp on the north end and a ramp directly in front of the pet wellness clinic. However, this is an older building and the sidewalk is kind of narrow. Thus, I had a couple obstacles blocking the sidewalk if I entered from the south. The north end is a bit easier, though as summer arrives and doors stay open there may be some challenges here (Global Gifts acknowledged this, though they are very helpful). Illumine has a single glass door and as you enter there's tables and chairs toward the right and toward the back. The counter is on the right toward the back. It's all fairly accessible, though the aisle between the counter and the tables is a tad narrow. I was able to make it, though a larger power chair might struggle. That said, there are ways to work with it and the front of Illumine is perfectly accessible. Illumine has a variety of coffee options, though it's refreshingly not overly extensive. There are also some amazing pastry and croissant options. I ordered an iced cold brew. I have to be honest and say it's likely the best one I've had. I'm hit-and-miss with cold brew, however, I really liked this a lot. I also ordered a chocolate croissant. As a paraplegic, I always hate ordering croissants. If you've ever been with me at a Yelp event, you know I'm incredibly nice and an incredible slob. Hey, it's true. This croissant was so good I'm not sure I cared if I was a slob. As all the cool kids say, it was delish. Okay, I don't think cool kids say delish. I think Kent may have been working and he was super friendly. He also has a seriously cool mustache. Yes, Kent, I'm Yelp reviewing your mustache. I have mustache envy. The other employee working was also super friendly and very helpful. The atmosphere is simple yet warm and inviting. There are outlets for working, but I liked that there was a quiet buzz of genuine conversation. Business was steady throughout my visit and I just really loved the vibe here. While this is a bit out of my way, I could easily see myself going a bit out of my way to come here. It helps that Global Gifts is also here - two great places in one strip center. There's also a new restaurant coming in soon to take over the old Greek restaurant that was here. There's much to love here and there's no question I'll be back. read more
