I love Tinker Coffee and this spot is no exception to their overall brand. I love that they have taken an old building and re-purposed it but also calling it The Firehouse as a nod to its history. It is a bit challenging to find parking but there are a few spots in front. I parked down the street and walked which is always an option. There are a few stairs to get in but also a ramp, and the set up has a nice aisle like space for the line and plenty of tables and chairs. It can be quite loud so keep that in mind if you want a quieter reflection time, and maybe take it to go or sit outside. They have various food items but I absolutely LOVE their peanut butter energy balls! In fact that is why I came to this location as this is where the magic happens. They make them here and send them to other Tinker locations! They are the perfect blend of savory and a tad sweet and go super well with their coffee and/or London Fog tea. Yum! I will freely admit to buying all they had on hand, and now can enjoy them at home. Yay! It is a very busy spot so not the friendliest of staff, but assumed they were already hassled from the morning. It was a great spot to meet a friend and enjoy the patio and some tea/coffee. I would for sure go back and even bring a friend! In fact I've already mentioned it to several people as a potential meet up spot! Definitely something to enjoy! read more

I've been here once before but only picked up a coffee, but this time I came with some friends and really enjoyed the coffee house vibe. We sat in the fireplace lounge area on the comfy chairs and stayed for a couple of hours. I got the butterscotch hot coffee and it was really good ... I could really taste the butterscotch! Service was quick and didn't have to wait too long for my coffee, especially since it was a busy Saturday afternoon. I'd recommend this location. read more

I LOVE the neighborhood atmosphere! This was my first time being there and I was greeted by an amazing team. They were very helpful and suggested their popular biscuit sandwich made in house. I've had Tinker at the airport and at 16 Tech but I'd travel to this location for their delicious buttery biscuit sandwich! OMG!!! It was the perfect breakfast right before my meeting. The coffee was amazing and the sandwich was yummy. I didn't take pics of the outside but it's a little firehouse. It's busy filled with an eclectic group of people. People were sitting outside, having meetings, eating breakfast with their kids before school... it was definitely a community vibe. Service, food, coffee and atmosphere passed the vibe check. I wish this place was closer to our house because I would be there every day. We love Tinker coffee and love that it's local. It's also a very historic property and you can feel the love and care they've taken to it when you walk in. If you're interested in seeing what the property looked like before where they took over, they have some really cool historical photos in the bathrooms to check out. I'm also a huge cold brew fan and Tinker has some of the best. I especially love that they have a 20 ounce cold brew. Also make sure that you sign up for their loyalty program because you will for sure be back for more. read more

I couldn't decide what to order here, so I went with their most popular latte, the Five Spice. The flavor notes - Thai chili, black peppercorn anise, clove, & cinnamon. Honestly reminded me of a chai latte with a hint of coffee! I liked it - at first I wasn't sure but the more I sipped, the more it grew on me. It is not a sweet drink, but I did enjoy it and would order again! Also tried the blueberry matcha. I don't like matcha, but I was very curious. I intend to order it iced and thought they all came that way, so my mistake was not saying iced and I got a hot latte. I still find matcha to be grassy tasting but this one would be something I would drink again. It's got a sweet, dessert feel and very smooth. Tinker is an Indy coffee favorite and with several locations around town, there should be one somewhere close to you. This is such a great space! Even on Sunday morning, there was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. There is lots of parking nearby, including a small lot that belongs to the building. We didn't eat here this morning but both of our coffees were great! I got the blueberry matcha and it was probably one of the best ones I've had! Service was friendly and coffees came out quickly! This is my second visit to the Firehouse. There are a few parking spots in front, but street parking is pretty easy if that is full. Come in, enjoy the vibe, order your drink / food, sit back and enjoy. Then repeat on another day (or same day - no judging!) The coffee is fresh and so good. I could just stay here. The only food I've tried is the blueberry muffin. It is delicious. The staff is friendly and happy. It makes me feel like they enjoy their work and are happy I'm here. Come try it out! read more

This space is clearly just what the neighborhood needed. I go here multiple times a week and it's been so great seeing how busy they have stayed with neighbors walking in for their morning coffee, meetings, families setting up on the front patio -it really seems to do the trick for all audiences. I'm a sucker for the caramel miso latte, but try to go with plain drip and buy my beans here to avoid the extra sugar. Speaking of extra sugar, if you're going for a treat, you can't go wrong with their salted chocolate chip cookie. It's one of the best in town. The staff is incredibly friendly and the space offers a variety of seating formats. So happy to see the spot thriving and all that a good coffee shop can bring to a neighborhood. read more

This is a busy spot buzzing with customers all day long at Meridian St. tinker coffee as the name suggests serves tinker beans coffee and is pretty good bakery items like Ube brownies and coconut meat blondies. All of which I found so unique. The baristas were giving out mental health stickers which I found pretty cool. Definitely a little more noisy if you are trying to work but perfect for meeting friends. Parking is limited but you can easily find street parking. Tinker took over the previous Chalet location (previously the Illinois St Firehouse). You'd think it went from coffee space to coffee space, so not much of a change, but the space has a completely different feel from the previous coffee space. The space is bright and open, with deep green accents and plenty of plants. The staff is friendly, and the coffee bar is huge. The offer breakfast sammies till 12 and then a few sammies the rest of the evening. They also serve overnight oats and a variety of pastries. In the afternoon, the space has wine, beer, and low ABV cocktails (vermouth-based). The coffee shop has a walk-up window and plenty of outdoor seating for pup-friendly spaces. However, if you're looking to sit inside, I would recommend the fireplace room. The fireplace is purely decorative, but the room is cozy nonetheless. The Americano and biscuit egg and cheese breakfast sandwich were delicious. The buffalo chicken sandwich was not too spicy, and the iced tea is a perfect afternoon refresher. They also have Rice crispy treats made with Hotel Tango Smashmellow. This is the perfect setup for the neighborhood. read more

I will admit that a little part of me cringed the first time I heard that this historic former firehouse would turn into a coffeehouse. While I admired the efforts of the former "The Chalet" to bring the space to life in a new way, I'll admit that I seldom went there as it never completely clicked for me and wasn't particularly wheelchair friendly. Despite my resistance, I was also sad when The Chalet closed down and this space fell empty. I love that the folks at Tinker Coffee, local folks, decided to turn this into The Firehouse and really spruce it up in some special ways while also allowing it to maintain that "firehouse" charm. I can't say accessibility is perfect. The entrance is up a bit of an incline and this neighborhood has always had wonky parking at best. It's an older, historic neighborhood and coming here always presents challenges for me as a wheelchair user. However, Tinker has made some definite improvements including an accessible spot near the entrance that offers decent parking without a menacing incline and without the threat of being smacked by traffic on Illinois St. There's also a nice curb cut right next to the spot to improve the access even more. There's an awful lot to love here - the wonderful floor-to-ceiling natural light with garage door windows feeling both fresh and consistent with the building's history. The fireplace with stylish yet retro-vibed seating offers comfortable ways to gather in smaller groups. The lighting and design inside feels warm, inviting, and makes you want to smoosh yourself in and relax for awhile. And yes, smoosh is a word. The employees? Always friendly and welcoming. While I'm not a wheelchair user who needs assistance, I have no doubt it would be offered. This is one of five locations for Tinker. It's considered their "cafe" and, indeed, it is a place where you can truly relax, socialize, and enjoy both traditional Tinker offerings and a simple yet expanded menu - don't think full meals, but breakfast sandwiches, grab n' gos, pastries, etc. During the day, you primarily have coffee and non-coffee fare. At night, there's beer (including locals like Ash & Elm cider and Guggman Haus brews), wine, and more. Every time I drive by here, there's a decent crowd gathered and I'm hopeful Tinker has found a wonderful neighborhood home here with a good number of houses within easy walking distance. Both Butler and Broad Ripple are only a few minutes away. (There is a reason it's called Butler-Tarkington, after all). Seriously, this is such a lovely addition to the Butler-Tarkington area with this lovely little corner including a children's bookstore, Byrne's Grilled Pizza, a Safeway grocery store, and even Graeter's Ice Cream. While those with mobility issues will want to plan a bit, Tinker has done a lot to improve the spot and I had very little difficulty accessing this wonderful new addition to Butler-Tarkington. read more

Our Indy Coffee Club Meetup group came here one Saturday morning for a event to try out the Tinker Coffee Firehouse. It is a very cool coffeehouse. The ambiance is very nice and comfortable, and the building is an actual firehouse. Tinker Coffee is very good and the beverages are definitely high quality. The service was excellent when I walked in and stepped up to the counter to place my order. The staff were professional and they know what they were doing at all times. I ordered an iced matcha latte and it was fantastic!! It tasted perfect and had the right amount of matcha and milk. The seating area inside was very nice and the outdoor patio is just as great on a sunny day. The pastries and muffins looked very good, and they do serve lunch and breakfast entrees from what I have seen on the menu. Tinker Coffee Firehouse is a great place to hang out with friends for coffee or grab a quick lunch. The beverages are terrific for the price you pay, and you are getting quality customer service. They remodeled the interior completely- the front is open and modern, the back room is cozy with a fireplace, some comfy arm chairs and some tables and chairs. Additionally, there is some outdoor seating as well. The cappuccino I purchased was very good, as was the blueberry muffin. They are open from early in the morning to the evening hours. Met my boss for a meeting at Tinker! Had never been to the Illinois location, but it was recognizable and familiar to all Tinker locations, which I always appreciate. Friendly & knowledgable staff to help answer questions about the menu. My husband ordered the Vanilla sesame latte. Very good, not too sweet and reminiscent of a toasted marshmallow. I ordered the 5 Spice latte (decaf) and it is our favorite. Lots of layered flavors of spice that hit the tongue. Dusted with cinnamon. Lovely finish. May I suggest dusting with a mix of cinnamon and cayenne? A bit of heat would compliment the spice flavor! Great ambiance within the space. Good parking as well. Coffee bean for the latte was lovely.
