Bacon Bacon, Egg and Cheese on an Asiago Bagel and Pumpkin Snowy latte
    Shawn B.

I work out east, so I have driven past this coffee spot many times before. Outside the restaurant was clean. As I pulled through the drive through, I overlooked the menu and decided to try the bacon egg and cheese bagel with the Pumpkin Snowy latte. Service was quick, but my drink was not complete. I was given the latte with no whipped cream or topping. When I told the cashier I thought it had it, she said she didn't think so. I pointed to the picture on the drive thru window and she said "oh", and took the drink back. She returned the drink with the whipped cream and a cute chocolate covered coffee bean on top. I thought that was a nice touch. The drink was decent. It didn't pack much pumpkin flavor, so I was kinda disappointed with that part. The bacon on my sandwich was just sad. It appeared soggy and old. Also I had asked for cream cheese for the bagel and the cashier stated, "sure you can have that", not explaining there was a charge for it. This was my first visit to Human Bean, so I'm unsure if this is the typical quality, but hopefully it's better for other customers.

I really love this spot, and I really like this location on Keystone as there are not many coffee options in the area. I've been a few times now, and I can say that the service has always been spot on. They really have a well trained staff that is professional and friendly. I really appreciated this. They always have a seasonal menu as well as the staples. I tend to try different lattes whenever I visit. I love that their business model is drive through or walk up. The drive through is really convenient and has been timely. They always serve an espresso bean on the drinks which I think is a nice touch as I've never seen that elsewhere.

One of my favorite coffee shops to go to! Located off 54th and Keystone this coffee shop is a welcome spot in the neighborhood. Unfortunately you can't stop in and sit you either drive thru or walk up. My favorite drink to get is the Snowy Mocha and I add caramel right now they have a Pumpkin Snowy Mocha flavor and it's divine!!! I think my favorite part about their latte's is they are not overly sweet. A lot of coffee shops load the sweetness into the coffee and you lose all the flavor; in my opinion Human Bean does the oposite. Every drink is served with a chocolate covered espresso bean for a little added touch! If you're in the neighborhood stop through you wont be disappointed!!

Small mostly drive-thru coffee spot, but don't assume that means the menu is small! Lots of fun drink options with plenty of sugar free syrup substitutions if that's your thing! Signature drinks come with a fun chocolate espresso bean. The vibes are high and the coffee bevs are tasty at the human bean! They even have their own app if ordering ahead/online is your thing.

I've been here a few times. This was my first time trying the green tea smoothie as pictured. It was amazing. Friendly customer service. We sat outside and she asked if I wanted her to put the umbrella up. That was definitely appreciated with the sun. It was nice to sit outside and enjoy our drinks. I went for a meeting.

The Human Bean started as a drive-thru espresso stand in 1998 in Ashland, Oregon. By 2002, its reputation for quality products and skilled baristas led to franchising and as of a couple weeks ago it has arrived in Indy with its location at 54th and Keystone in the spot of a former Rally's. The Human Bean is a nationwide franchise with a strong presence west and in the Pacific Northwest. As I just returned from Washington myself, I can say I didn't actually see one while there and it does continue to be a modestly sized chain. The menu includes a decent variety of coffee, tea, and smoothie products along with espresso and a variety of frozen products. You can also buy their beans and they even have single serve/pod products. They are a drive-thru chain along with, I believe, also walk-up options. There are tables outside if you'd like to linger. Dine-in does not exist. At this location, it appears only one side of the drive-thru is open. However, I've noticed in their photos that some locations do use both sides and this may be added in the future as they've only been open a week or two here in Indy. I will admit I considered dropping a star because of an initial negative impression. The menu lists smoothies at $4.50-5.50, however, when I ordered a large the price was over $7.50. I questioned it since there's no such price on the menu - a major faux pas in my book and one likely to be an irritant in a business located at 54th & Keystone. After initially switching my order, I finally caught on that the menu lists the 12 and 16-ounce options. There is a 32-ounce option that appears to be $7.50 - this option is not on the outside menu. I'd really advise addressing this clearly and making sure baristas are able to explain it. However, the baristas were super friendly and once I figured out things I was pretty much fine with them. The product I received, a Java Chip, was delicious and actually quite generous for $5.50. The building has been nicely redecorating with a very woodsy theme. As a franchise, they believe strongly in stewardship and they support a variety of projects. There is an app that offers rewards. You also get an actual coffee bean with every order - it's somewhat gimmicky but actually kind of cool. Overall, at least for now, I'm sticking with the 5-star rating. It's a soft 5 and I'll admit to wondering why you'd start off with an inaccurate menu. But, pricing confusion aside the products are great, the people are friendly, and The Human Being is a welcome addition to my side of town.

Matcha Latte, 32 oz.. should have went smaller!

Good coffee! Wish I could have customized a bit, but can't be picky when the service is great. They even offered a pup cup for my dog. :) One of the few drive thru coffee places I could find that wasn't Starbucks. Good matcha, didn't realize how big my drink was until I ordered it! Would come back again.

Service was subpar, not great. Hot latte was so hot I couldn't drink it for about 25 minutes and it didn't taste good when I finally was able to try it. I walked up instead of drive thru hoping for a better experience. Unfortunately it didn't help.

If you want a drink that taste like a warm hug, The Human Bean is that place. Service there is always warm and friendly and the drinks never disappoints. The Mexican Mocha is my favorite!! Will try the eggnog tomorrow

I've really come to love this spot. The service is ALWAYS friendly and great. This time I tried their Bacon Egg and Cheese Bagel and wow, I loved this. I still like their biscuit option but the bagel one wins. As far as drinks, they are all a bit on the sweeter side so keep that in mind.

    Bright energy "smoothie"

The definition of a smoothie- a thick, smooth drink of fresh fruit puréed with milk, yogurt or ice cream. What I received can compare to a bad gas station icee (slishie). Had bubbles on bottom like a soda & ice on top. It was like they blended a cheap waterd down Red Bull with some ice. No fruit. I can provide picture. This looked nothing like advertised picture of bright energy smoothie. I can't believe they let it leave the store. Now the breakfast sandwich (bacon, egg, & cheese on Asiago bagel) was chewy with hard parts. It was inedible. The cheese had brown spots on it & looked like burnt plastic. The bite I took made me puke. I am so upset. This was brunch for me, the only meal I get until later tonight for dinner. This was supposed to be a treat. But now I get to go hungry. I am very upset.

I will freely admit to buying all they had on hand, and now can enjoy them at home. Yay! It is a very busy spot so not the friendliest of staff, but assumed they were already hassled from the morning. It was a great spot to meet a friend and enjoy the patio and some tea/coffee.
