We both loved our coffees and will definitely be coming back! The inside is spacious and has a lot of different seating options. We sat in the back corner where there are a couple of two top tables on a platform. The almond croissant is a slapper. They didn't even ask me if I wanted it warmed up, they just warmed it up, because real heads know that an almond croissant needs to be served warm. That's the level of professional croissant-ism that's going on at Ascend Coffee. Come for the outstanding almond croissant, but stay for the chai. I usually get a drip coffee at any coffee shop, but it was nearing noon, and I had already had my allotted single cup of black coffee, so I opted for a chai made with whole milk. Did you know: Lactose intolerance is common in Mexican-American individuals? I'm part Mexican, and yeah, I think I should have opted for a different milk. They do serve alternative milks here, so you have options! Don't be like me and not explore your options. Nevertheless, the chai was great. I had such a lovely first experience at this Castleton coffee shops yesterday. It's been such a joy watching this once chain-heavy area fill in with local and diverse businesses. For starters, the staff were very warm and friendly from the minute I walked in the door. I opted for their house made cardamom honey syrup (tiny bit ) in a cappuccino paired with one of their house made potato hand pies. Both were so delicious. Don't miss out on their baked goods! I grabbed a spot at the bar overlooking the kitchen to work for an hour or two. Wi-Fi was great and outlets were a'plenty. SO close to my house and my normal Costco route - yet I am late to the game on trying this place out. I am SO GLAD we finally did! Joined my coffee loving pals here one early weekday morning and snagged the best seats in the house (a couch!). It was really quiet and comfy for about the first hour or so and then it got packed with patrons (yay! for them) - mostly if not all men - appearing to be there for business and / or casually reading alone - which was interesting to our group. We joked that we should tell our single girlfriends about this place. ha! The space is clean and welcoming, and the music was eclectic but nice. So back to the coffee - YUM. Menu was simple- on the wall with the usual offerings as well as a little easel on the counter offering some seasonal brews. I opted for the brown sugar cinnamon latte with oat milk - and it was so perfect. They did offer some baked goods that looked tasty - but I will have to get one next time. Prices were consistent with locally owned coffee shops and reasonable. Just one barista working when we went. Our group were all satisfied with their coffees and I took an americano home to the hubs - which he loved. Said it beat Starbys by a mile. Overall - will return! Hello Fellow Yelpers Today, I allowed myself a good 30 minutes to do a little midday R&R at Ascend Coffee. This was my second time visiting this cozy coffee shop and I ordered myself a Brown Sugar Cinnamon Latte with Almond Milk Substitute. There were GF/DF breakfast squares on display, as well, so I added that to my $10 order. Ordering in person is quick and easy. The menu is pretty straightforward. I am not a coffee drinker but on occasion I can really use the pick-me-up. I like the seating arrangement in this open concept space. They have several couches, lounge seating, and a few little nooks (or I like to call them *cubbies*) with bench seating in the shape of your own personal cube. I had no trouble with setting up my things in my little cube, and there are charging outlets inside for your device. I recommend using a napkin or ask for a small plate for your food items to be laid on the bench that can cross-function as a low tabletop. Customers can clean up after themselves and any soiled dishes can be returned underneath their ice water station. I like that they use glassware for dining in. I will mention that today there were a good number of people already inside when I walked in at about 12:30 PM. There is semi-soft music playing overhead, but I noticed the conversations and talking more than that. Depending on your noise preferences, I would recommend wearing headphones (or airpods) to block out ambient sounds. The talking and chatter may be a distraction if you are coming in at a busier time and need to focus or study in "silence." But this is nothing unusual for a local coffee shop that is bustling. Today, I read another two chapters in one of my favorite Emily Henry books, 'Funny Story' and took my time savoring my gluten free, dairy free breakfast bar with my hot almond milk latte. This was a great choice of space to stay warm in this frigid weather. Easy going, casual, and cozy. read more

Quick in-n-out visit to this unassuming cafe in a strip mall. The inside was buzzing with patrons working, meeting, or sipping. The drinks were ready surprisingly quickly and the barista craft level was on par with some of the best coffee shops I've been to - properly steamed milk, both drink ready at the same time, clearly labeled and called out, house-made syrups in the appropriate amounts of sweetness (not too much!). I got a "basic" pumpkin spice latte and you could actually taste real pumpkin! I don't frequent this part of town often but I'd count this as a coffee oasis in the Castleton area. read more

This is such a cute coffee shop in Castleton! It is a busy place and it gets loud due to the music and everyone talking, so it's not the ideal place for a study session. I highly recommend the hazelnut latte but would pass on getting the matcha again. The matcha tasted watered-down. They also have pastries but have not had the chance to try them yet. Ascend is a sweet little local coffee shop and work space that makes its own coffee syrups, pastries and chai. They are located in a strip mall on the north side of Castleton Mall. The space is upscale and comfortable with a mix of tables and other comfy seating. There is an interesting plant wall on one side of the dining room. When I stopped by yesterday, there were a couple of people working and several groups socializing. The clerks are super friendly and will explain the pastry options which are in a case. When I was there, they offered scones, various croissants, breakfast bars and I think I saw a few cookies - all fresh made. I ordered the ham and cheese croissant. The croissants are made fresh daily and melt in your mouth. It was one of the best croissants I've had in Indy. The cheese was hot and melted. On Saturdays, they have live music. The space at Ascend is lovely. There is plenty of space to meet with friends and work. I was excited to try their mint and lavender syrup. I read that they have some syrups that are made in house and this is one of them. I could definitely taste the lavender, which was great. I didn't really taste the mint. I've been a regular at Ascend Coffee Shop since they first opened, and it's easily one of my favorite places to grab coffee. The staff is truly the best--always friendly and welcoming. Every time I walk in, I'm greeted like family, which keeps me coming back. The drinks are consistently great, and you can tell they take pride in what they do, especially with their made-from-scratch syrups. Everything tastes thoughtful and well crafted. And you absolutely can't go wrong with the browned butter chocolate chip cookie--it's amazing and the perfect treat to go with any drink. What a little gem! I had the day off and was bopping around after dropping my kids at school and was heading over to Starbucks when lo and behold, I looked over and saw this coffee shop. I knew that if it the parking lot was full at 7:45 in the morning, it had to be good! I was not disappointed. From the road, I was attracted to the hanging lights. The ambiance does not feel like Indiana. No offense at all, as I was born and reared here, but...well, IYKYK! I loved the atmosphere. This should of course be top of the list! Ascend checks the box here! I had the Cuban and it was so good. Extra points for serving it in a little hand painted cup that looks like it came from my granny's cupboard. 2. Atmosphere...more specifically...can I work from here for the next couple hours and feel inspired and focused at the same time. The musical was little louder than I prefer, but I enjoyed the overall ambiance and playlist. 3. Power Outlets! Are there enough tables with outlets that more than one gypsy worker can open up a laptop? YES! I counted about 8 different spaces to plug in and get into whatever you do! I was running errands around town and saw tye sign for the coffee shop from the back of the building and decided to stop in a try it. They are located in a small strip mall set back a bit from the road. At the counter, I ordered a gingerbread latte and an almond croissant. They did have alternative milk options (2% and almond milk), but I went with whole milk in my latte. I also decided to dine in as I wasn't in a rush and wanted to enjoy my coffee and pastry in comfort. There is seating along the walls and in the middle of the store on couches and high top tables. All the staff I I tracked with were welcoming, and friendly. The coffee art was a pleasant surprise, and they warmed the croissant, which made it even more delicious. The coffee wasn't overly sweet, but since I had the croissant, I didn't need any additional sweetness. Will definitely stop in again when I'm in the area. One thing which I noticed and appreciated was that they don't throw out leftover pastries at the end of the day but will sell them the next day for 50% off. read more

This coffee shop is sooo cute. I absolutely love coffee shops and this one has such a cozy feel and was very welcoming. I'm personally an iced girly and of course I had to try one of their season drinks - iced vanilla maple latte. Just watching the was the barista was making the coffee I knew I was going to love it. The flavor profile was too sweet or bitter just the perfect blend between the vanilla and maple with a hint of cinnamon. I highly recommend this coffee shop if you want a place to read/study or to grab a coffee with a friend to catch up. The seating situation accommodated for both small and larger groups. This was my second visit, was in the area for a dr appt and this place was so good first time I had to visit again when close by. A little busier this Friday morning but not loud. I came to ascend before my Saturday morning Costco trip. Location wise, it's a great spot with a large parking lot and spacious inside with plenty of seating. I ordered a dirty chai latte which was a little sweet for me, but the food was the stand out for me. We had the ham and cheese croissant and the apple cinnamon fritter. I also think it's important to note, but I have a suspicion that this shop might be affiliated with a church or faith-based organization. There were multiple different bible studies happening and many of the baristas/staff were wearing branding items that had me making this conclusion. There's been quite a bit of publicity lately around the fact that Indianapolis now has more indie coffee shops than Starbucks locations. One of the newest shops in town is Castleton's Ascend Coffee, a lovely little coffeehouse behind the mall in the same strip center as Antioch Church and Golf Tex. I believe this spot housed a chicken joint that had the misfortune of opening during the pandemic. Ascend feels warm the minute you enter. The two people working are super friendly and helpful. Like many coffeehouses, Ascend carries a variety of coffee options, both hot and iced, along with baked goods. I opted for an Americano Iced with a chocolate chip cookie. My total was just under $7. As I was staying in, they served the Americano in a Ball Jar- fun touch! Ascend is fairly small but comfortable and has several places for wheelchair users. They do also have a couple high-top tables. The entry has two sets of glass doors. As you enter, you go straight forward to the counter to order. The dining area is obvious. The best curb-cut is in front of Antioch. I loved both my Americano and cookie. Prices are fair and consistent with the area. There are places here where you can plug in, though it seemed like the emphasis here is on light socializing. There's no question I'll be back. read more

We came here for a pick me up before going to Castleton Mall. It is easy to find, located in a strip that has a parking lot in front. Walking in, I noticed the ambiance and seating. I love the plants! I liked that they had different kinds of seating options. Looks like a nice place to come for a study or gather with friends. I noticed in the middle table kids were playing a game of cards, so it is kid friendly. It wasn't busy when we came in, so we were greeted and attended to quickly. I only saw a small menu on the side wall of the order counter and seasonal drinks written on a chalkboard sign on the order counter. I told the worker that it was our first time here and if she had any suggestions, but she didn't offer any. I was trying to look up drinks on Yelp, but a line started to form behind me so I just ordered a Cortado (expresso and steamed milk --I got oat--) and my hubby got a iced Cuban. It came out to less than 10$ which is less than Starbucks. Nothing too special about the Cortado, but the Cuban was pretty tasty. Not sure if they just have a basic menu with seasonal options or what...I think my experience would have been better if I was informed about that.
