The location is very welcoming and there are different options for seating; you order at the counter and they call you when it is ready, I decided to go with the banana miso latte which was delicious! Just off the main drag of Southport Road, you'll find the lovely little coffee shop The Mocha Nut. This is one of those places where you can feel the pride of Indy, with local honey and other products for sale. There's lots of tables for a great place to connect with others or get a little remote work in. One thing that I really appreciated about the coffee shop that I don't really see at other coffee shops is a nice large-font menu. I'll admit that I do need to wear my glasses more, but it's something that helps make a place more accessible when you have an easily readable menu. Anyway, I got a lavender lemonade and an oatmeal cream pie. These items came out within a few minutes of ordering. The cream pie was fantastic and reminiscent of the childhood snack but a much more elevated experience with the most luscious frosting filling. The lavender lemonade was also good, I just wasn't expecting it to be carbonated. Value score (cost to food quality/quantity): 5/5 stars. I think this sweet treat duo was around $10 which is about what I'd expect to spend. Mich-Ellen stars (like the Michelin stars, but I'm Ellen and you're reading my yelp review!): 1 star. I'm usually not on this side of town but I had an appointment and I'm always on the hunt for a delicious latte. Yelp did not disappoint. A million percent recommend this place. The barista was so sweet and patient, and she gave great recommendations. I got an iced vanilla latte (extra points for their house made syrups) and a breakfast sandwich. Both were awesome. Their cafe miel is so delightful and I also indulged with a blueberry lemon muffin which is the perfect mix of sweetness and hint of lemon tart. Their parking lot in the front almost always looks full but there is lots of parking in the back, as well as a really nice patio area with additional dining, and can use the back entrance door to enter/exit as well if you do park back there. I stumbled upon this place taking a wrong turn early Saturday morning. It's close to Longs Bakery. It's a very laid back place and for 830am on a Saturday it was hoping. People playing games, chatting or on their laptops. While waiting someone was on a date there meeting. They sell a few items to eat, muffins, and biscuit and egg sandwiches. I didn't eat but will keep that in mind next time. They sell items there like cups, shirts and other things. The service was great, and the lady at the counter was very helpful. I've always passed this coffee shop and wanted to stop inside, and I finally got a chance today. It's a standalone coffee shop with a relaxing vibe inside. They have a parking lot out front, makes it easy to access. I've heard about the banana miso latte through yelp, so I decided to give that a try. I've never had anything like it before. I asked the barista what's inside - banana juice, miso flavoring, 2 shots of expresso, and milk (I opted for oat milk). I chose to dine in and a 16 oz cup which is equivalent to a medium (they have 3 different sizes - 12oz, 16oz, 20oz).The barista was very friendly; she greeted me with a smile and answered all my questions pleasantly. Service was pretty quick, they call your name when your order is ready, and you pick it up from the counter. My latte looked very appealing, I loved the display of the design and the mug it came in. They have several seating options - I really wanted to relax but the relaxing seats were taken, so I opted for a high-top chair with a window view. They do have tables and chairs outside for outside enjoyment. This place would make a great spot for studying, catching up with friends, or getting some self-time in. I really enjoyed sipping my latte and absorbing the ambiance. My latte was delicious, I could taste the notes of each ingredient working together effortlessly creating a savory taste. Music was playing, people were visiting, coffee was brewing in the air, and I was in engrossed in it all. When finished, the dishes are placed in the grey bins which are near a hall to the restroom. They also have a self serve water station, stay hydrated. They have 2 restrooms that are gender neutral, clean, and large in size. Clean restrooms is a plus! This is one of my favorite coffee shops on the southside of Indy! The staff is so sweet every time I go and there's always plenty of seating (and outlets!). A lot of the coffee syrups are made in-house which is something I love. The pumpkin pie latte is delicious and not terribly sweet, but the ginger peppercorn latte was my latest order and the best that I've had so far! I've been to The Mocha Nut a couple of times now and really like it! The atmosphere is great for a coffee shop talk with a friend. Both times I've visited I've had to wait for a table to clear and snatch it up. They stay busy! My friend's even had to circle the parking lot and wait for a spot to open up! You could bring something to work on here, but like I said, it's been busy whenever I've come in and a bit noisy as a result. So I think whether or not it would work out to work of a morning would be a toss-up. I did notice the crowds faded out around noon and it quieted down and tables were much more open. So maybe an afternoon work session would be the safer bet. Anyway, the menu! I'm a tea drinker, no coffee for me. They have Hubbard and Cravens teas, which are lovely. There aren't a bunch of options if you don't want a tea latte, but the ones they have are pretty good. For a straight up tea, you can get a green rooibos (herbal tea with fruit notes--pear, I think; I liked it, didn't love it), citron green (my favorite and now go-to order here), or earl grey (not my fave, it can get too "perfume-y" for me). If you want a tea latte, you have two chai options--masala or organic; my understanding was one is more for iced lattes, the other hot?--or you can get a London Fog, which is an earl grey tea latte. A large hot tea costs around $4.50 as of May 2022. A large tea latte is more like $6. Didn't see it listed on the menu board, but the barista let me know they do have dairy milk alternatives for those who are dairy free like me! I'm not sure how much extra they are to substitute or what kinds they have. I didn't notice any gluten free food or treats. They do have a little assortment of baked goods like muffins, though. For what it's worth, my friend has loved every coffee drink she's tried here! They have some fun seasonal flavors like cardamom rose and tiger's blood. They also have a rewards program that's easy to sign up for with a phone number. I'm not sure how beneficial it's actually going to be for me, but for people without food intolerances who like treats and coffee, I think it's worth a sign up! :) I'll definitely be back to The Mocha Nut again! Welcome to the coffee version of Cheers...The Mocha Nut Coffee Shop, where everyone knows your name! This locally owned coffee shop on the south side prides itself on getting to know their customers. Every time I walk in I get greeted by name! The baristas are so nice and friendly - very sweet folks. Luckily they are not just nice, but make some great coffee! Per my first review, I still love the lavender latte. Their seasonal lattes have been fun to try (fall was my favorite). My staple is a pour over. They have two consistent ones and then a rotating brew. Right now it's a Tinker coffee. The consistent ones are medium or dark roast but usually the rotating one is light (which I vastly prefer!). The seating is great! This place is usually pretty busy, as a head's up, most of the time. They have some comfy sitting chairs in a couple corners, have a high table with stools running across the window, and tables of varying sizes. The high tables and a couple of the corner areas have outlets, so bring your charger if you're working or studying on a laptop. During warmer weather, you'll want to try the patio at the back of the shop. It's delightful and adorable! They have an online order option, both a website and an app. Usually takes only 10-15 min for your brew to be ready. Sometimes they even write nice things on your to-go cup! :) The snacks are good as well - their pumpkin muffin is surprisingly great (I am surprised only because I usually hate that flavor) but their chocolate chip cookies are my favorite. Parking is great, with spots in front, on the side, and behind the shop. There's a door at the back of the shop so feel free to park in the back. Also important for folks who plan to be there a couple hours: bathrooms are really nice and clean. Anyways, this is my top coffee shop in the city and we are very lucky to have this within the chain-store happy south side (within a 2 mile radius are 3 Starbucks). read more
