I really, really want some Long's Donuts. We usually go after my wife has medical appointment nearby. It's a nice treat after going to a doctor appointment. Employees have got to refrain during their work shift from nibbling. It would be a tough job for me to not indulge in the product. I reserved a birthday cake and they said they would have it ready for pick up. When I arrived, they told me they had no record of me calling in a cake. The person who took my order had asked me what color flowers and what I wanted written on the cake. So someone had to have remembered me. The employee then told me it was at the Indianapolis location. So we drove another 30 minutes north to their other location, only to be told the cake was not there either and they had no record of it. We drove a total of 2 hours both ways for a cake that did not exist, when they could have simply told us the truth. We missed our daughter's bday dinner. I know this is an unpopular opinion but I think Long's donuts are not good and their baked goods are downright terrible. We have bought cakes and cupcakes there and they are dry as a BONE! We got an apple pie and the apples were almost uncooked or they used the wrong type of apples. It was inedible just like the cake and cupcakes. Brownies are terrible. Donuts might get a 2/10 from me and that is only if I get one fresh off the line. They don't take cards, only cash! It's 2025. Who has cash? It's either they're avoiding taxes, credit card fees, or both. I can't imagine how much business they've lost over the years when people walk in and don't have cash or they drive by and don't stop because they don't have cash. Also, my mother used to go to Long's a few times a week for over 30 years and would buy huge orders for her employees and family. The last time she went, she wanted her order in two separate boxes (one for her house and one for a family member's house). They wanted to charge her for another box. After spending thousands of dollars there, you'd think they'd eat the cost to keep a long time customer happy. That was the last time we've been there and won't return. My family loves to purchase donuts from local bakeries to enjoy every Saturday morning. The next one on the list was Longs. I will admit, it's been a while since I've been there so I did sort of forget about the cash only policy. There is a bank close by so I was able to withdraw some cash. The employees were super friendly and one even went to the back to try to find a donut for me with "just a bit more icing." Oh my goodness. Every single donut or pastry we chose was so delicious. Long's has been making the best donuts in Indiana since 1955. They're a staple in Indianapolis and Southport. My dad used to get a box of Long's almost weekly for his employees for decades. I live in California, but I make a point to grab donuts at one of the two Long's locations each visit! These are no frills donuts. I've never been a fan of overly decorated, super decadent, sickeningly sweet Instagrammable donuts. If that is what you're looking for, you won't find them at Long's. Born and raised 10 minutes from this location and I cannot believe I have not reviewed it yet. I have not had a bad experience or bad donuts in my ~30+ times coming here. You will want to get here as early as possible as the line can become long. However, do not let it deter you away. They usually have 3 - 4 staff members taking orders, so the line goes very quick. I feel like I have to repeat: "CASH ONLY!" I have been a victim of coming here with no cash and having to perform the walk of shame out of line, into my car, and back in line after I made a withdraw. You cannot go wrong with anything that you order. They offer a wide variety of donuts, as well as pies. I have never had their pies, but I have heard they are delicious. As far as the donuts go, you I love the classic yeast, the long john, or the apple fritters. My favorites are the blueberry and Bavarian cream. They have alligators as well, which are to die for. The donuts are always fresh and they are constantly baking in the back. If you do not see a donut you are looking for in the front, ask whoever is helping you if they have it in the back. I know this is true for the Bavarian cream. They also serve coffee, orange juice, white and chocolate milk. The chocolate milk is a must! You can come in and order 1 or 2 donuts, half-dozen or a full dozen, how many you need, they will provide. If ordering a dozen, I recommend telling them that up front.
