Very sleek spot. Modern Asian fusion food in a modern Asian-inspired setting. The restaurant itself is a bit moody, with a lot of dark natural colors and various textures. I happened to visit on a warmer day so I was able to see the space with the garage door open. It was golden hour and it had everything all lit up. Very beautiful. Our service was amazing, couldn't have asked for a better server. I can't remember her name but she was so detailed in her descriptions, thoughtful with her suggestions, and had the perfect amount of attentiveness. Now on to the fun parts.... Drinks were a hit! We told our server what we like and they recommended a couple options. I again can't remember the exact name of the drink but mine was a gin cocktail. I'll attach some photos for you. As for the food, every bite I took was delicious. Our table shared the fried brussel sprouts and the ginger miso salad. A very lovely way to ease into our meal on a lighter note. They split up the salad onto two plates for us, which was sweet of them. The portion was pretty good for a $12 salad. Very refreshing. Brussel sprouts were absolutely fire. Get them! Along with that, I also ordered the tempura shrimp maki roll. Inside the roll was cucumber and avocado with giant tempura shrimp right on top, drizzled in spicy mayo. The presentation was cool, a slightly deconstructed version of what I would get somewhere else. There wasn't a single bite left on the plate. I would order all three of these dishes again in a heartbeat. Perfect for a date night or special occasion, but also works for just grabbing a bite with friends. This is my wife and I's favorite restaurant in all of Indy. We were lucky to visit last night, and still great as always. We had a reservation at 6:45, and were sat shortly after that time. The place was busy for a Friday night, and was somewhat loud. Our waitress greeted us quickly, and was on top of things throughout the night. I started off with a ginger miso salad, based on recommendations on this page. Personally, I could have went without the $12 salad. I would have paid more like $6 for the amount of actual salad I got. The dressing was good, but nothing extraordinary. I did ask for no cucumbers- I could taste a faint taste of cucumbers on the salad, so think they just took them off after they were already placed. We split some Bao Buns. These were the highlight of the show. The pork on them was thick, the slaw was fresh, and the bao bun itself was fluffy. We split two dishes for dinner- the short rib and the chicken udon noodles. The chicken udon noodles were fantastic- packed full of flavor and tons of toppings in it. The short rib fell a little short of my expectations, but I had high expectations to begin with. We have had the short rib multiple times in the past- and normally it is a hunk of meat, similar to a roast. Now, it is strips of tiny pieces of meat with a bone attached to it. If the owner/general manager is reading this- GO BACK TO THE ROAST STYLE- the strips of meat was too much work to eat. Still packed full of great flavor though. I had the bridge to Anshun for my drink. I had never had Baiju before, but glad I tried it. It was a tangy drink that was also sweet- would say it's a must try. This was a fun place to go! If you like Asian food they have a whole mix of stuff- Korean, Chinese, Japanese and Thai- but it's a fusion of flavors. The drink menu was fantastic! We had the Old Fashioned and Little Bee Appetizers were fantastic! Got the Edemame, Kimchi Kimbap Roll, Pho Soup Dumpling. The only reason Im giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because IMO it's a little pricey and the Pork Belly Kimchi Fried Rice I ordered tasted delicious but didn't come as described (I didn't see a single snow pea, egg or bean sprout- there were a couple of tiny carrot cubes and pork belly). I suggest ordering a few different dishes and sampling with a group of friends. 2.20.26 Hubs knows I love ramen and sushi and we hadn't been here before, so he got reservations to celebrate my 55th. (I mean, my 29+th ...) This was a Friday night are our reservations were for 6:30pm. Modita is on Carrolton next to the Bottleworks Hotel, so there is the street parking and the lot - everything was already fairly corded, but we got a space in the lot. We ended up arrive about 6:15 and the place was probably 80% empty at that time. The interior edges on industrial, but with a darker color palette that feels cozy. We were shown a table in the front room, in the corner, which kind of was disappointing because there were cooler booths and more space elsewhere. So I had a good view of just a wall with freaky monkey wallpaper on it, ha. Water was filled right away and our server came pretty quickly. He said there were no chef specials off menu because they were just coming off devour indy last week. We took a few minutes to look over everything, and I always enjoy asking the servers what is their favorite and why. I am NOT a picky eater, so I will often order whatever they recommend because I like trying everything. We're fans of the Cunningham restaurants, so generally we expect it all to be delicious. I ordered a glass of the Gaspard sauvignon blanc (so delicious ... I ordered another later) and hubs just got a diet coke. We were a little "huh?" when they brought him a glass and a can. The waiter explained that all the other Cunningham properties use (fountain) pepsi products, but , being in Bottleworks ( the historic Coke factory), they use Coke products here. Great ... we like Coke better .. just cans at $3.50 ea. did not fit the ambiance. FOOD! Check out my pics. We got the edamame (wonderful sauce) and uramaki roll to start, then hubs got the shrimp drunken noodles and I got the pork shoyu ramen, which I also had asome leftovers of. For dessert, the Yuzu bar, a nice thick citrusy curd. Everything had a really nice flavor and met expectations of pretty fabulous. My pics are a little dark because the room was quite dim, but I adjusted a bit and I think you'll see how pretty the food was - and it all had very nice flavor. I expect such for a Cunningham restaurant, and, in terms of food, that did not disappoint at all. One downside is that the room was indeed a little too dark, especially at the corner table where none of the overhead lights hit it (the way it was that we could see at neighboring tables). This place was really cool. I'd come back for the Brussel sprouts for sure. The staff were amazing. Very knowledgeable about their dishes and considerate of the people with allergies or special dietary needs. They also keep you hydrated. Whenever my water go low, within 30-seconds, it was being refilled. Hot towels for your hands when done with your meal (upon request). I ordered the brussel sprouts, chicken egg rolls, and shrimp drunken noodles. Brussels were some of the best I've ever had. I was in Indianapolis on a business trip, and a coworker and I stopped by this restaurant for dinner. We ordered the grilled chicken, kimchi fried rice with pork belly, and Brussels sprouts. All three dishes were flavorful, well-prepared, and satisfying. The move here is to order 3 or 4 dishes and just share everything. Went with Pho Soup Dumplings, Pork Belly Bao Buns, and the Salmon Uramaki roll. All phenomenal. Everything was amazing - the atmosphere, the staff, and the FOOD. next level. We had a bit of everything: sushi, bao buns, miso soup, Mongolian beef, ube ice cream. Yum yum yum. I've now tried a few of their sushi rolls and they're not my favorite. I would skip those and try some of the other menu items. We also enjoyed both the tandoori chicken and peanut sauce chicken! Modita has been my favorite restaurant since moving to Indy, but what has truly set it apart is the service you receive while there. During our recent visit, we brought some out of town friends who had a lot of allergy restrictions. Roan, our waitress, took the upmost care in making sure each dish was free from the ingredients in question. Our guests, who are extremely nervous when eating out due to their severe allergies, were so thankful for the care that she took, even taking the time to explain each of the ingredients of the dishes they were interested in. We started with the Tempura Shrimp Maki Roll which we both thought was probably the best sushi we've ever had; the shrimp was incredible crunchy yet tasting fresh and still chewy. Last week, my son got to try Modita for the first time. Mama here had a concert she wanted to go to and maybe bribed him to join with the promise of dinner. It was a same-day decision so a lot of places were booked, but we snagged a table right when Modita opened up at 5. We had a positive experience and enjoyed all our food- read on for more details. To start, service was quick and friendly. Our server asked if we had any time constraints and so I let them know we had a concert later, but would be ok until about 6:45. We were able be out the door by that time and it was much appreciated. We were sat in the front room which allowed for some people watching out the window. To drink I had the Parisian Dreams and Lukas had the Ube Pineapple from the Spirit Free menu. Both were great. I really appreciate seeing creative spirit free options-both for sober friends and for my son who loves a "fun drink". The dumplings were a good starter. Soup dumplings can be a little hard to find, so it was a good surprise to see on the menu and they all arrived in tact so you got the pop of broth when you ate them. The sauce they were in had a good flavor also. The potato samosa were fried a little heavy it tasted like, but the filling inside had a good flavor. I would have preferred a more complex spice profile- it was missing some of the earthiness for me, but that said, it was still an enjoyable dish. The Tuna Uramaki Roll had more spice than I was expecting and that was a pleasant discovery. The dragon fruit was a fun addition for some sweetness to contrast, as was the mango tobiko sauce. At $24 though, I'm not sure I would order it again. For me, that's a high price point for one sushi roll. Robata grill-The shrimp was really just for my son, but he said it had great flavor and could have eaten more of it. The chicken with peanut sauce was my pick, and it was great. The chicken had a great level of char from the grill and there was ample sauce served with it to dip through. My son who said he was "kind of over chicken" also enjoyed it enough to steal a whole skewer from my plate. I had hoped to be able to get "The Dirty" with gin instead of vodka, but was told it was pre-batched. I don't prefer a vodka martini, but It was solid for a vodka martini. Not Dirty enough for me but probably perfect for a normal person who doesn't typically order theirs "filthy like swamp water" like I do. The olive oil wash gives a great mouth feel and is why I wanted to try it as is. My son enjoyed the Mochi ice cream for dessert, but the dessert star is the Mango Lassi cake. First time here and the food was fantastic. We started off with tuna roll, edamame and bao buns -- while everything was great the bao buns were my favorite starter we got. I then got the salmon roll for dinner and it was also great. The salmon on top was cooked, which I wasn't expecting. Figured it'd be raw but it was cooked well and had great flavor. Got dirty vodka martini and that was good and had three big blue cheese stuffed olives. I can't remember the desserts we split. But the lemon bar type was a little too tart and the pistachio one wasn't my vibe. But the whole experience was great and I definitely will be back to try more menu items! read more

The food was very tasty, but it all came out lukewarm, even the side of rice. It was also slow to come out, which made us think maybe it was just sitting there waiting to be served. When we were finished and ready to pay, our server gave our neighbors their check and they immediately paid via tap, which we wanted to do, but he instead just dropped off our check. Then he was over at a large group taking all of their individual checks which took a really long time, so we ended up just getting up and going to the front to pay our bill. read more

I recently went to Modita and got the $40 three course devour menu + another entree. The devour menu was diverse and included fan favorites (like the bao buns). It did give 2 bao buns instead of 3, but tasted just as delicious. It did kind of seem like the pork belly was cut thinner than usual but I'm not sure if that's accurate. I can't really complain though - the buns were steamed perfectly, the slaw was light and the pork belly had a good amount of sauce. The drinks were great - I really enjoyed the Azolla. It was a really nice blend of flavors that were wintery yet bright and vibrant. It had blackberry and fig infused rum, winter spice syrup, yuzu, lime, lavender bitters, and mezcal. I don't love rum and I actually really dislike mezcal so I was nervous about this drink, but I loved it! It truly was spiced yet floral yet sweet. It was the perfect combination of flavors in my opinion and the smokiness of the mezcal was not the star of the show, which I liked. The aslam wasn't as tasty as I expected from reading the menu. It's Ginger Tumeric-Infused Reposado, plum whiskey, apricot liqueur, lemon, ginger syrup, and Crème De Cassis. For loving all the ingredients, I'm really not sure why I didn't love the drink. Food wise, the abura soba noodles were part of the devour menu. The waitress described it as a broth less ramen, which was perfectly accurate. I think because of there being no broth, the pork, mushroom and bean sprouts weren't as tender as expected, but it was still a really savory, umami dish that was a nice winter treat. The flavors were really good, but if you didn't get the sauce at the bottom of the bowl, you didn't get all that flavor. We ordered the tamarind noodles separately from the devour menu because they're one of my favorites. This time they tasted more like pad Thai than they did in the past. They always give a really generous amount of shrimp, so that's quite nice. The yuzu bar is a classic - kind of like a lemon bar but with yuzu flavor instead of just lemon and sugar? It was 10/10 as always and it was a huge portion honestly. I was super surprised. The staff is always really kind and knowledgeable. They are helpful when asking for recommendations and check on you once your meal has arrived. I had another great experience here and would do the 3 course devour meal again for sure! read more

My apologies to both Modita and myself for only taking a photo of the menu - every dish I tried was amazing. Went with friends for a birthday dinner and we tried the edamame, naan, soup dumplings, and various sushi (salmon uramaki, tuna uramaki, and salmon, hamachi, and wagyu nigiri). The soup dumplings weren't super soupy, but tasted incredible nonetheless. The tuna uramaki and wagyu nigiri were some of my faves - the wagyu is market price and it's worth the splurge! The atmosphere felt intimate in our booth and can't forget about the great service (shoutout Kyle). Appreciated a little birthday treat at the end of the meal as well. The ambiance and service are great here, as expected. The naan bread with the three different dips was the winner I think, who doesn't love some fried naan? Bao buns were also pretty tasty though a bit on the sweet side (I guess that's the fusion part of Asian fusion). Short ribs too were a bit sweet. I loved the shishito peppers, roasted with a lot of flavor. Buuuut the chicken and broccoli left much to be desired. For a pretty hefty price tag, we got the tiniest pieces of chicken! Not satisfying bite at all. That was my least favorite dish for sure. We had time to kill one evening so decided to give Modita a try. I was attracted by the inviting atmosphere - it was a warm night and the patio door was wide open. We sat at the bar and tried a few of the specialty cocktails and an order of kimchi fried rice. The cocktails were delicious (and strong). Mine was the Dragon's Challenge (spicy marg). The other was Summer with Aunt Thuy. Not my favorite- a little too herbal but it was pretty and my dining partner enjoyed it. The fried rice was delicious- tasted a bit like the inside of PF Changs lettuce wraps. The service was efficient and friendly. This place is a vibe! It was worth the wait! The cocktails are amazing and the service was next level. We had the naan and we could have licked that bowl. The spicy, sweet, salty feta dip with garlicky naan was so tasty! The short ribs were grilled well and so savory. The bao buns were delicate and the meat was cooked well. My husband and I shared a few plates and were full! We had a salmon sushi roll, but wasn't exciting. It was more on the expensive side per person, but worth it. read more
