I've been dying to try legacy Tokyo for their katsu curry, it's such a warm comforting meal in the winter time. The restaurant is nice and cozy, they do have a bar with beer/wine, and cocktails! The chicken katsu curry was average in my opinion. The curry was kind of cold, and not as soupy as it usually is. The chicken could've been flattened out more. I'm really excited to see the Factory Arts District (formerly the Circle City Complex) finally filling in with businesses! This new spot, located in the lot by Center Point Brewing, is on the smaller side but felt super cozy on a cold winter day, thanks to the big floor-to-ceiling windows and warm lighting. They've got a full bar with both bar and tabletop seating, which makes the space feel inviting and easy to hang out in. The in-person menu had more options than what I saw on their online menu (always a nice surprise), with pricing that felt pretty reasonable most entrées fall between $13-$20. They offer a variety of Sutadonya-style dishes, including rice bowls, Japanese curry, and ramen. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen, and the highlight was definitely the pork chashu, rich, fatty, and super tender in all the best ways. Portion size was average (I could've eaten just a bit more), and I do wish the egg had been marinated like a traditional ramen egg. Still, I'd absolutely come back to try more of the menu. The only downside was service, which was a bit slow. We arrived around 5:30pm and experienced longer waits between each step, leaving a little after 7pm. They just opened, so they're probably still working out the flow, just plan for a little extra time if you go. We visited on a First Friday when the restaurant was understaffed, but we didn't know that until waiting over an hour for our food. It's not a big place, but there were a few free tables and we were seated pretty quickly. We received water for the table and placed our order and then were basically left alone for the next hour. We could see into the kitchen so eventually we realized there appeared to be just one cook so we waited patiently. The manager came by after maybe 45 mins or so and let us know our appetizer would be coming soon, as they were working on it themself, and it arrived at probably right at an hour. We enjoyed our gyoza and assumed the entrees would be coming soon as well, but those took probably another 45 minutes. At a certain point we were trying to figure out if we should just leave some cash on the table and give up, but we finally flagged the manager down again to ask if there was an estimate for our food. We were told it was the next to come out. That was true and we enjoyed that too, but wow. That was definitely the longest we'd ever had to wait for food, and not a great experience. It was late and we were very hungry. We noticed they started turning down new customers at a certain point, and we would have really appreciated a warning before we were seated so we could have decided whether we'd like to wait or not. A quick "we're pretty understaffed tonight, so your meal might take up to an hour," would have been SUPER appreciated and I hoep the staff would consider doing so if they find themselves in this predicament again. The food was good, and I know they're still new, which is why my review is still a 4, but I won't be returning for a while unless it's to order carryout. My family and I came here for dinner. They didn't have highchairs so we needed to grab our stroller for our son to sit in. The server didn't come over until about 10 minutes after sitting down. Simply fabulous. It's a cute restaurant and I really loved the tiny little cat chop stick holders. Of course traditional American silverware is also provided, so no need to worry. I like that this is a bit different than the usual Japanese fare served here. Loads of bowls, curries and noodles. Vegetarian friendly as most dishes can be ordered with tofu. Service was great, food came out quickly and the price point is very budget friendly. And best of all, every last bite was delicious. This place is tucked away into the corner that it's easy to overlook during the daytime. Walked in and there's plenty of seating and you can see into the kitchen, however there is a covering which is nice. We started off with an appetizer that had octopus and it was glorious! The breading was soft but also not too soft and was a little sweet. I would've been happy with more octopus pieces in the balls, but they were good either way. We all had rice bowl, I'm the only one who had spicy beef and it wasn't spicy like I expected. I throughly enjoyed the rich flavors of the spice, the runny egg and the rice. No need to add soy sauce because it was set to perfection. Also loved that the chopstick holders were little kittens. I noticed they they also have a bar. I could tell they just recently opened. It looked so new and clean. They have appetizers small plates and curry as well as sutadon. I tried karaage sutadon. It came with about 6 or 7 karaage which was a generous amount. Unfortunately karaage itself didn't have much flavor. It was really dependent on the sauce, which I didn't think had enough of. The arugula felt dry, which is another reason why I needed more sauce. I should have asked for more. It was sweet and sour flavor. I liked the spicy beef bowl that my bf ordered a lot better. I got the original pork bowl and the prices are so reasonable here! The flavors are very homey and 100% remind me of Japan. Egg is perfectly jammy. I'm so excited that we have a legit Asian restaurant downtown. I'll definitely be back! The food was mediocre at best, but it's new for Indy, so I will give them props for the concept and for bringing a little more culture to the city. The parking situation on a Friday evening was absolutely atrocious so plan accordingly for that. The "influencers" who marketed the restaurant's grand opening talked about ramen as well, which was not on the menu when I went. I think it's offered now, but we went in with the impression that ramen was already available, and that was quite disappointing. Online, the restaurant presented as having a strong connection to a Japanese family/brand, yet when I visited it gave off a feeling of cultural gloss rather than genuine representation. I would appreciate more transparency and authenticity from the restaurant since I was excited to visit. Visited this place for the first time, it is located on Circle City Industrial Complex. They have a parking lot and it's free. We got here at 4pm on a Tuesday and it was just our table until we left around 5:30, service was good. Giving less star as their menu online didn't reflect the menu on site. Got takoyaki while we waited for 1 of our friends, good takoyaki, We all got the Sutadon rice bowls, with different proteins, pork, beef and tofu proteins. Admittedly, it was cold and rainy and ramen sounded great so I was initially a little sad to see no ramen offered. However, the host was welcoming and after being seated, my friend and I noticed the cat chopstick rests and that warmed me just enough. I ordered the spicy chicken karaage bowl. I thought the egg coming on the side was weird but they were done well and it's tempting to get extras next time. I think I may have gotten the wrong thing-the nonspicy version, but I was hungry and like karaage so it suited me just fine. It was delicious! I liked having the spring greens on the side. A well balanced meal! The service was great and I was floored by how the dishes were priced. Got us three guys the last tickets for their exclusive New Years Eve nine course meal, manager chef partner led the entire evening which, if we have to complain, well we did complain how long it took well over three hours. However once in a lifetime trip to Japan via downtown Indianapolis, I was not regretting anything albeit perhaps 150$! Totally worth it, there's a sensational craft to this foodie culture as Andrew Zimmern proved on his top notch show. I cannot comment on their actual everyday menu since this evening loaded us up on random specialties. The scallop, sushimi, duck, and tartar made for sublime eats. I cannot get enough of any of those and a curated course with all and more made a perfect end to 2025. But that dessert, black pepper simple, strawberries, that was incredible. Your wedding sheet cakes, please never again! We liked the big city small street food atmosphere tho for three hours definitely needed some music, TV screen, something to break up the wait. The yuzu and watermelon cocktails had a fun tangy balance, way too easy to drink, can recommend those for the everyday evening visits. It's always a fun run to try new dreamboats like Legacy. Was strolling around the Factory Arts District one evening and came across this food spot that I remember hearing about this past month. I quickly walked in excited to order some takeout for dinner. The minute I walked in I couldn't help but take in the warm cozy vibes and the Japanese artwork. I was quickly serviced and scanned over the menu before I ordered the Spicy Chicken Karaage Rice Bowl to go. I was told by the host that there was a bit of a wait but it shouldn't be more than 25 minutes or so. I mentioned that was fine and sat by the bar as I eagerly awaited my food. Flash forward and it's been over a hour and I still have not received my food. I asked a few servers during that timeframe and they all looked at me confused stating it was coming. Finally, a hour and half later I finally received my order. Now let's talk about the actually food. The rice itself was so dry and had absolutely no taste to it. The chicken was so dry as well (they forgot to add the Spicy Sutadon sauce! Which is unfortunate because this is what they are known for.) and all I could taste on the chicken was the burnt garlic that they added on top. I want to love this new lovely family-run place. They do food from the Sutadonya chain in Japan that makes their signature pork sutadon -- hearty rice + pork bowls with garlic-soy sauce -- popular among workers as a meal for "stamina". Sounds good for a quick midday lunch on long work day. But for a proper dinner it's really just that-- a huge pile of rice and meat. Its not bad, but I want other things to balance its earthy flavors and sheer volume -- veggies, pickled items. (Mine did have two small pickled radishes-- these were great I would have loved so many more.) This would seem to depart from true sutadon, but could that be done?? Or offer veg add-ons or sides?? They do have some other foods but still mostly meats -- chicken karaage looked yummy, and we got the steamed and fried dumplings which were excellent. I am also torn because I thought at first it was great that this place doesn't do sushi. But now I wish it did, only because it's in a spot very walkable for multiple neighborhoods (we walked from kennedy king!) and no other sushi restaurants nearby. We still had fun but I can't imagine being excited enough to come back for more sutadon. That feels sad because this place is unique and I want it to thrive. But our whole table felt this way about our various sutadon bowls -- which isn't a good sign for the outlook without some tweaks. read more

Came here 4 weeks into them opening and was very impressed! The interior was very homey and comfortable while also being modern and sleek. The smell as you enter the establishment is intoxicating and prepares you for a wonderful meal. My wife and I started with some miso soup and deep fried gyoza, both of which were fresh and delicious. The gyoza came with a delicious sauce that we chose to keep to further season our rice later on. For entrees, she got the spicy karage which was very good. The sauce took away from the crispiness a bit, but nothing that came anywhere close to ruining the dish. I got the pork katsu curry which I absolutely loved. A generous portion of rice and curry sauce, and the pork was so crispy and juicy. Absolutely choice meal. Our server was clearly overbooked and they were understaffed when we went in, so I don't fault them at all for things to take a bit longer than what you'd prefer. The 2 top immediate quality of a restaurant are food and service - neither is happening at this place. We visited on Sunday afternoon, 2 hours after it opened. Had 3 table patrons when we came in. Immediately ordered ours - chicken karage and pork katsu. Then we noticed that after about 15 minutes we ordered, the family that came in way before us just got theirs, which is really concerning since there was barely anyone dining. We finally got ours after about half hour wait. The food at best is Chinese take out food, labeled as Japanese. My chicken karage is a 5 big chunk of chicken breast, no breading whatsoever. The sauce is overwhelmingly sweet, very close to general tso chicken. The pork katsu was also overwhelming with sauce, very thin and hard (overcooked). The rice was not even Japanese rice. It's very dissapointing since we made the visit based on the previous review, which is now I am not sure how they came about. Bottom line, service was very slow considering only a handful of patrons dining in. Food is Chinese take out quality, not even remotely close to being Japanse. read more

What a great addition to the new Factory Arts District!! we have been needing a Japanese restaurant in this area of town and let me tell you this place delivers! It is a cozy restaurant with friendly staff. I have gotten the edamame (salty and delicious), pan fried gyoza (absolutely amazing, the best I've had in Indy), spicy chicken karaage bowl (delicious, not too spicy), and the curry with chicken Katsu (amazing). I recommend all these dishes. I will say the Karaage bowl is heavier on rice than chicken, but the rice is tasty and the perfect texture. I recommend the curry over the bowl and the curry is a huge portion, delicious, and has more chicken. This place also has Sake and Sapporo on draft which is a huge bonus! I do think the service time has room for improvement! If you are in a rush, you should order your food as soon as you can because in my past couple experiences it may take some time. I do love this place and I'm so happy we have it on the east side. It's a great addition and I hope it's here to stay! read more

INDY, TAKE NOTE! This place is what I have been waiting for! Near East Side's newest gem, and we need to protect it at all costs. THE FOOD: homey, delicious, and affordable. I LOVE the focus on real home Japanese cooking, instead of more sushi. We got the miso soup, takoyaki, fried gyoza, spicy chicken karaage bowl, and a cocktail (I can't remember the name but it has a Swedish fish in it). Everything came out quickly and we destroyed it in 10 minutes because it was so yummy, plated with care, and reminds me of the food I had in Japan. THE VIBE: clean, minimalist, casual, and upscale. You walk in and you feel warm and comfortable, like you're in a friend's kitchen. No frills, but casual Japanese vibes, which is frankly pretty trendy to me because there's nothing else like this in Indy. THE CULTURAL IMPACT: in a city that is overrun with pizza, burger, and bad sushi joints, an authentic Asian restaurant like this located in a neighborhood near downtown is a rare gem.
