My family took a mini vacation to discover Indianapolis. We stayed in the active downtown area. After a day of walking around and discovering the downtown area, we were craving Sushi. We looked for a close sushi place with affordable rates and a good rating. We landed at the The Sushi Den. It hit all the boxes with good service, easy to find location, neat ambiance and delicious food with fair pricing. The three of us were starving so we ordered crab ragoon and miso soup right away and came quickly. We ordered a total of four rolls, which included two house special rolls. I personally got a number of things including the shrimp tempura (perfect), teriyaki beef with fried rice (the rice was fluffy not fried) - which could have been because I went towards the end of the closing. It came with miso soup and salad. The miso soup had tofu in it which I think took away a lot of the miso flavor, but the salad was yummy. I also had pork fried dumplings for the table that were vegetable dyed that surpassed my expectations after having the rice. Review update. Our first visit was great! I ordered a sweet potato tempura roll. It was served with tempura sweet potatoes, rice, and seaweed. Delicious. We went back last Monday and i ordered the same thing. I actually brought a bottle of gluten free soy sauce and the server who i think is also the owner commented that they carry gluten free soy sauce. I placed the same exact order however this time the sweet potato tempura came out with eel sauce. There was no eel sauce the first time i ordered it. I thought it odd the server mentioned seeing the gluten free soy sauce then brought me a dish covered in gluten after the first time i ordered it, it didn't contain it. There was only one server for the entire entire restaurant. After being seated and ordering everything together, because we were on a time crunch, it took 40 minutes to receive our glasses of water and five more minutes to receive the beer that we ordered. We ordered chicken hibachi, a spicy tuna roll, and a sweet potato roll to go. The food was nicely packaged with branded seals. We were surprised by the inclusion of three cheesecake bites. Having eaten sushi around the US and around the world and with positive Yelp reviews, I expected a minimum level of acceptable for this sushi. The spicy tuna was ok, but was significantly over priced. You receive 6 incredibly small rolls barely larger than a quarter. The sweet potato was the same. Both rolls fit in a container typically sized for ONE 8 piece roll The hibachi was more akin to a Chinese happy family meal with sliced carrot, broccoli, chicken, and a soup like sauce that didnt stick to anything. The flavor was overly sweet and the chicken was gummy. The yum yum was complete liquid and was sweet but had nearly no flavor. The salad dressing was a generic dressing seen at most lower end sushi/hibachi joints. There wasnt near enough for the amount of salad, but I had no interest in finishing it anyway. The miso was incredibly strong. It certainly wasn't the best I've had, but it was alright. For most people it would be entirely too pungent. Finishing off the meal with the cheesecake felt almost like bribery to forget everything we had just eaten. I went for my bday celebration and unfortunately, they took at least 15 minutes to seat us, and no one even acknowledged us.
