Our lunch was delicious at Kyoto Nora. I had the Chicken Katsu Bento Box, which was colorful and filling. My breaded chicken was cooked perfectly, crispy on top and with an Asian barbecue sauce. The tuna sushi was fresh and tasty. I absolutely loved the salad dressing which was creamy and refreshing. My husband had the Chicken Hibachi lunch. The chicken was very tender and he loved the grilled vegetable mix. The neighborhood Japanese restaurant is quiet on a Wednesday lunch. Soft rock music played in the background. The dining room is small and upscale with a small sushi bar and a dozen or so tables. Our server, Kath, was friendly and attentive. Food came out in reasonable amount of time. She checked on us throughout our meal. They do a robust carry out business. The menu offers a wide range of sushi, hibachi and ramen. We found plenty of nearby parking around the building. A nice Nora discovery. My friend and I met here for lunch, the first time here for both of us. The interior is attractive and very clean. Our server was very friendly and efficient. We both ordered from the lunch menu. I ordered the veggie hibachi, which contained several vegetables including broccoli and carrots. The fried rice was savory and delicious. Miso soup was tasty as well. We shared an order of spring rolls, which were very good. Servings were large, especially for lunch portions. The menu was extensive, definitely something for everyone. I've heard you you shouldn't sleep on Nora. Earlier this year, I opened my medical massage practice in Nora, and I officially woke up to this hidden gem of an area. There are so many great restaurants and eateries in this condensed Northside neighborhood. Kyoto is a prime example, hiding in plain site on Westfield Blvd, just south of 86th st. My family and I visited Nora because my children have not had the opportunity to see my studio. We decided to make a little day of it. First stop: a hot bowl of real ramen! I am sure the 30 cent package of ramen my children regularly make for lunch at home is "real", but I needed them to experience authentic ramen. Fortunately, my family isn't suffering from any head colds at the moment. But the wonderful Indiana weather decided to drop suddenly and a hot bowl of ramen seemed like just the thing, We started off with a Japanese soda for my oldest son, who loves tasting different sodas (You should see the boy literally light up whenever he sees an ice cold Jarritos!). My girls wanted to try their first boba. I could have sworn they had already tried it, but I guess not! Fun fact: I actually had my first boba tea just earlier this year, and fell in love with the fun concoction! We ordered the milk tea and strawberry boba. Word to the wise: I made one grave error. I had assumed the strawberry boba came with the the popping boba (they have popping boba here!), but there is a small line of text that I completely missed that said popping boba is an additional $1. The dollar is worth it, but I missed it, so both bobas had tapioca. They were good, but the popping boba would have put the strawberry drink over the top. My middle child wanted a simple avocado sushi roll and gyoza. The girl loves her dumplings! The sushi came out beautifully prepared and hand-rolled. With a little drizzle of eel sauce (perhaps the greatest sauce known to mankind, in my opinion. Eel sauce is always the chef's kiss!), my daughter loved her personal sushi roll. We also ordered the tonkotsu ramen, chicken ramen and a teriyaki chicken hibachi plate. The food is fresh to order and comes out fresh and hot. I tasted authentic ramen for the first time earlier this year. (What can I say, it has been a year of new experiences and exploration!) The ramen at Kyoto is served beautifully with corn and a jammy egg. The noodles and broth are velvety smooth. Our server was kind and patient as I helped my family of five navigate the menu for this fresh experience. Kyoto is small in a cozy sense. A great place to bring your family and sit in the middle of the room with tables pulled together, or bring a close friend and sit by the window for some fascinating conversation. read more

Kyoto Nora on Westfield Blvd feels like the sleek dining cantina of the Republic...modern, clean, and full of good energy. My partner and I shared the Seaweed and Cucumber Salad and the Chicken and Steak Hibachi Dinner, while another member of our crew went for the Tonkatsu Ramen. The salad was freshly made, crisp, and presented beautifully. Definitely the work of a culinary artist, not some Padawan on training duty. The hibachi portions could easily feed two adults or one particularly hungry Wookiee. Everything was delicious, and the flavors hit harder than a lightsaber clash. The food came out hot, fresh, and perfectly timed. The vibe inside was calm but lively, with a modern design that feels more Coruscant chic than Earth casual. People sleep on Nora, for real. But they shouldn't, because this little northside neighborhood has the sauce. There are lots of great restaurants in Nora, and I discovered another one near Westfield Road and 86th Street called Kyoto. My family and I visited Kyoto for a hot bowl of ramen. You see, a head cold has been circulating in my household -- the kind that causes congestion and lingers annoyingly. The best remedy to knock that shizz out completely, I've found, is a bowl of either ramen or pho. Pho is preferable, but my youngest child wanted sushi, and no Vietnamese place we could find also had sushi. (And nor should they! Good for them.) Kyoto offers ramen, sushi, hibachi and boba drinks, so Kyoto was the winner tonight. There's really nothing like putting your face over a hot, steaming bowl of ramen. It'll make your nose run, and you will probably cough up some demons, but that's good. It means it's working. The ramen at Kyoto comes with the same basic things: noodles, jammy egg, nori. We got the tonkotsu ramen and the miso ramen, and they were basically the same (they both came with sliced pork medallions), but one had pork bone broth and the other had miso broth. The ramen was beautifully presented and delicious and almost too hot, which was perfect. My youngest child wanted a California roll, which came to our table presented beautifully, as well. Bonus: It was made to order! There are guys standing at a counter, making sushi. It tasted fresh, with avocado, cucumber and crab salad in it, sprinkled with sesame seeds. My kid also ordered a strawberry boba drink with strawberry popping boba in it. They have popping boba here! This was very important to my child, who only liked the popping boba, not the tapioca boba. Interestingly, they had a movie on the TV called KPop Demon Hunters, which I had never heard of until maybe 36 hours ago. But isn't that funny how things like that happen? You go from not knowing about something at all, to being engrossed in it while you partake in your ramen medicine cure. Life is weird. read more

Kyoto is tucked in the parking lot on the corner of Westfield Boulevard and 86th street in a small unassuming building. This location has been tough for other restaurants but that's no reflection on the quality of the current establishment. The dining space is small, but has plenty of tables for dine in, as well as a sushi bar with stools. There were also several take out orders that were sent out while we were there. As others have noted the hibachi is prepared in the kitchen as opposed to the large communal tables, which makes for a quicker meal without all the fanfare. Kyoto offers ramen, sushi, and hibachi dishes. I tried their miso ramen and was not disappointed. The broth was flavorful, the noodles cooked well, and it came with three nice sized pieces of chashu as well as other traditional ramen toppings. My friend ordered the steak hibachi dinner. Everything came out quickly and hot! The steak was cooked to medium rare just as requested and the vegetables were tender but crisp and covered in a delicious hibachi sauce. We also ordered the spring rolls, which were good and pretty much on par with any other spring roll I've had. My co-worker and I decided to grab lunch at Kyoto. We dined in and the service was wonderful. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. He checked in with us often and made sure our cups were never empty. The restaurant is cozy, but clean. They have a large menu with a variety of options, so there is something for everyone. We ordered from their lunch menu, which runs M-F until 3pm. With any lunch entrees you receive a soup or salad. I ordered the Katsu Chicken Bento Box with a salad. With the bento box you get a choice of a tuna, california, or salmon roll along with rice. I decided on the california roll and upgraded to fried rice. Our food arrived quickly and warmly. My katsu chicken was crispy and the sauce had just the right balance of sweet and tangy without being overpowering. The fried rice was savory. Kyoto is now a favorite in our book! This is a neat little sushi/hibachi/ramen joint near North Central High School. It's not your traditional hibachi place where you sit at a community table and the chef cooks your food in front of you and puts on a cheesy show ("Do you want to see an egg roll?"). No, this is much more low-key (everything is cooked in the kitchen) and thus, much cheaper and faster. (I just want my food to taste great. I don't need to see an onion ring volcano.) read more

We have been wanting to try Kyoto as it's near where we live. We got there at 5 on a Saturday and it was empty. We were greeted and sat right away. For starters we got nigri and crab ragoon. The crab ragoons were amazing and so was the nigri. For meal we got the Alaska roll and the cherry blossom roll. Both were so amazing. The Alaska roll had a perfect smoked flavor to it and was balanced well with how fresh the cherry blossom roll tasted. People started to come in around 5:30-6 pm which we could tell is their busy time. Recommend coming at 5 pm for dinner if you want a more quiet atmosphere and quick service. By looking at the outside of the building one would assume it's a small hole in the wall and more than likely cobbled and congested. This is a very beautiful establishment once you enter. There are little bonsai trees throughout, soft instrumental music, and the scenery is just overall peaceful. My waiter was super attentive and continously checked on me without hovering. I bought the spicy miso ramen and it was amazing. The spice level was perfect and the spices gave it the perfect taste. I also got a green tea Boba "matcha not really green tea" and it was acceptional. I was very surprised I enjoyed it as I have never been a fan of Boba. Kyoto has quickly become our go to sushi spot. Before they closed, we were loyal customers of both Ocean World and Wasabi on 82nd but honestly Kyoto surpasses both in overall quality. On our third visit, which was a Monday evening the dining room was more than half full, and the carryout business was booming. It's clear the word is out! The sushi is consistently fresh and beautifully presented. The service has been attentive every time and the atmosphere feels welcoming... it does not have the pretentiousness (and higher prices!) of Blue Sushi down the road - my husband I feel like we are such a chore for the host/hostess and servers there. This restaurant is a hidden gem of Indianapolis. Today my wife and I started out with the egg rolls which are perfectly paired with spicy sweet sauce. She enjoyed the Shoyu Ramen because its less salty than the Tonkatsu Ramen I had. The broth of both is exquisite. The ingredients were of course amazingly fresh and flavorful. We also found the sweet tea to be very refreshing. Our waitress was very attentive making sure we were satisfied. Also enjoyed the music and decor that is elegant in its simplicity. Everything was hot and fresh. The takeout was packaged well. I thought the prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food. Went to Kyoto on Westfield Blvd for takeout last night. The restaurant recently opened after another Asian restaurant closed in the same spot. It's nicely decorated, smallish but has a nice looking bar. We ordered Spring rolls, Edamame, Crab Rangoon, and vegetable fried rice. The food was so fresh and tasty, not greasy at all. Let me just say.... The lovely woman who greeted me and took my order over the phone was absolutely sweet and courteous and so helpful. The restaurant was clean and super inviting. I got takeout from Kyoto Nora, chicken ramen and a California roll. The Sushi was delicious, some of the best I have ever had. It would have been nice to have a second pack of Soy sauce, When I opened the. Chicken broth to pour over noodles I the container had about an inch of fat/oil on top. After spooning the oil out, I poured broth over noodles and veggies. It tasted ok. There was some frozen corn and 3 very thin slices of chicken breast that were so tough and flavorless I could not eat. The cheap ramen costing less than $1 from Aldi is much better! Excellent sushi and sashimi! Portions are good and prices reasonable. Service is friendly and usually great unless it's a rush, but that's to be expected. Always have the miso soup and a house salad with the ginger dressing. Love the rolls and that they'll accommodate my request for no sauces - I don't care for mayo or whatever, I just like good fresh ingredients. So Yum! read more
