We had the best experience here! The inside of the restaurant was very clean and the ladies working behind the counter were very friendly. I tried their most popular ramen and we also got an order of gyoza. We had brought our toddler with us and planned on sharing our entrees with him. When they brought out our food they had given us a child's size bowl with silverware that was age appropriate. I have never seen a restaurant do this, and it was so very thoughtful! From the outside you would never expect that this is the coolest little ramen shop. I absolutely loved all the decor and our ramen was great! Ramen can be VERY hit or miss. Pulling up to this place you can just tell it's going to be good. The menu is small, but for good reason. They do their ramen well. The Black Garlic Tonkotsu was full of flavor and very filling, and the miso spicy wasn't too spicy, but gave just the kick you were looking for. Both dishes came piping hot. went in on a Wednesday evening, there was no one there to greet me. we were eventually guided to order on a kiosk like a McDonald's. there were no descriptions on the screen, and nothing to see except pictures of soup with a price tag of about $20 each. eventually, I did pick something, and then the chip reader didn't work. the server, which was the only person there to help, told us to wait, and then continued to stand at the order window, not helping me. frustrated, confused, and overwhelmed, I waited for the server to help me for about 5 minutes. he couldn't stop staring at the window to help me pay $50+ for 2 bowls of soup. I left, disappointed. I was really excited to try this place because of the reviews, but I was VERY DISAPPOINTED. A hot bowl of ramen sounded delicious when I was under the weather on Christmas Eve, so we ordered delivery from Ramen Ray. I was concerned about how it would travel, but as you can see from the photo everything was carefully packaged and all I had to do was combine it all in my own bowl. We both ordered the spicy miso ramen since it was listed as most 'popular'. Though it's a little expensive, you get a huge portion. I was hoping it would be a little spicier, but the broth was very flavorful. Decided to check this place out for Devour Indy and was craving some ramen. I got the spicy miso ramen and overall I have to say it was pretty good. The broth and spice came together well. Some of the toppings, such as kale, did not make sense to me but overall pretty good. Also had a chance to try the vegetable gyozas and those were pretty fire. The crispiness was absolutely key. The mochi they gave at the end was a great way to end the meal as well. I loved the inside and reminds me of a true mom and pop ramen shop vibe. The staff were very friendly as well and though it did seem understaffed, they were doing a great job. Overall, I think if you want a good wholesome meal filled with ramen, this is a good place. For those who have ventured Marion county and surrounding areas for ramen, me saying that Ramen Ray is #2 may not mean much, because their really are not many exquisite options to choose from. Ramen Ray has been a consistent, no frills ramen spot for me. Their selections are good, and they'll throw an experimental ramen dish on the menu from time to time. My only complaint was going to be that they did not have a tonkotsu broth, which forced me to settle for miso. But I just looked at the menu and it seems they made some changes. I tried my first ramen here about six years ago when they first opened. Before you come, know that this is a ramen restaurant specializing in Sapporo style ramen from Hokkaido Japan. If you're wondering what that means... The definition is: "made with a rich chicken, fish, or pork broth, the soup is flavored with akamiso (red soybean paste) and commonly topped with stir-fried bean sprouts, cabbage, sweet corn, and ground pork." Just by looking at the ramen, the only difference you'll really notice is that it has corn in it. I personally love this style and have ordered the shoyu and miso ramens. There's a self checkout pad at the counter where you place your own order and pay. A ticket prints as you sit down to wait on your order. I paid $25 for ramen & dumplings. There's a table with small plastic water cups & pitcher for you to pour your own water. I ordered the spicy miso ramen & it was a nice presentation but extremely unflavored. Ramen rays is on 71st just past the Kroger in what I assume was another old restaurant. You walk in, order at the counter and then you can grab a seat to enjoy your drink while you wait for your ramen to come out. I ended up having the johns porter from bier, it's one of my favorites and to see it in a can was a nice surprise. Once my ramen came out, I dug right in wasting no time, My spicy miso ramen was delicious! Flavorful and spicy, the pork belly was cooked to perfection, and the soft boiled egg was awesome. I had high hopes for the goza But they were really bland and the sauce was just straight salt.
