It's so nice to find a place that's open on Mondays! Especially a sushi place during the afternoon. Our first time at Kotoyama was pleasant. It wasn't very busy at 3pm. Service was great! I had the Agadashi Tofu. I was happy they have it on the menu. At other places it's been served warm almost like a soup in a bowl. Here it was served cold with very little sauce and lots of fish flakes. Not sure if I would order it again. The Bento Box was served with California rolls, white rice, and gyoza (YUM!). They were nice enough to sub the traditional chicken served for Katsu style which was delicious! A very generous portion of meat. The spring rolls tasted like the kind you get at a Thai restaurant and were 10/10. Neither of us were crazy about the sushi though. We also tried the spicy tuna crunch roll. Next time we will have to try the Ramen. It's a cute place and I'd like to return at some point. read more

I want close to closing time so I had the restaurant to myself. The Sakura Lychee was yummy . My Teppan Yaki Chicken Ramem came out fresh and hot. The Ramen is creamy, and has just the right amount of broth to food ratio. Every bite was a different food (not just all ramen). The ingredients are grilled chicken tenders, creamy pork broth, green onion, bamboo shoot, wood ear mushroom, half egg, fish cake with miso base and garlic. The atmosphere is a little loud but I think its the air condition unit. Service was fast. They allowed me to take my time and also answered any questions I had. I purchased a $50 gift card back in January only to find out when my daughter used it there was no money on it. I went back to let them know and they supposedly fixed the gift card. I say supposedly because my daughter just called me to let me know the card had a zero balance. Now she has paid $100 out of her own pocket. Obviously I am not happy. Everything was amazing, from start to finish. The food, the service ... all of it. Kotoyama Ramen is a great addition to this part of Carmel! We got the Spicy Miso Ramen (barbecue pork loin, green onion, bean sprouts, an egg, sesame seed, miso and spicy sauce) and the Chicken Teriyaki Ramen (grilled chicken, green onions, mushroom, cabbage, half an egg, fish cake, miso and garlic oil) and both were delicious. I think the Spicy Miso Ramen was the best, though, because the pork was extra tender and melted in the mouth. The chicken teriyaki ramen did come with a lot of chicken, though, so if you love chicken, get this one. The jammy egg that comes with the ramen is the best. It's perfectly cooked, with a hard white and a custardy yellow. I love a good jammy egg -- especially one that's in a soup so full of lots of good stuff. We started with an order of edamame, which came out hot and steamy and salted. They were great! My youngest child devoured more than I did. My children both got California rolls, which are your standard cooked roll: crab meat, avocado and cucumber. They both ate all of their "sushi" and said they were very good. I'm trying to teach them how to eat with chopsticks, and the kind lady who was serving us saw that they were struggling. She offered to give them little plastic chopstick helpers, which clip onto the wooden chopsticks, so kids just have to pinch to pick up the food. With the aid of the chopstick helpers, my kids were picking up their food like pros. The service here is top-notch. We wanted for nothing. Our water glasses were refilled promptly, and plates were cleared away as soon as we were done. The people who work here are so friendly! I usually don't care about the friendliness of the staff as long as I get my food correctly and efficiently, but these guys go above and beyond and make you feel at home. read more

A new ramen spot in Carmel that you absolutely must add to your list of restaurants to visit sooner rather than later. The decor is perfect and they have a decent amount of seating. Upon walking in we were instantly greeted and seated in a booth. Our server was so friendly. She took her time going over the menu and gave us enough time to ponder what we wanted. We both decided to go with ramen. Although we were torn because we saw so many other dishes that smelled and looked amazing. My friend went with the vegetarian ramen and I decided to try the super spicy. The flavors were phenomenal. I was pleasantly surprised by the veggie broth. The ginger stood out and it was so savory. The super spicy was presented beautifully. With it being super spicy I would give it a 5/10. It wasn't as hot as I expected but very enjoyable. The protein stood out. It started with a gift certificate from my wife. Her friend LOVES this restaurant, and my wife knows I love sushi. I stopped in for lunch and had excellent service as Rama walked me through the menu and shared some of the favorites from their clients. She was an excellent ambassador for Kotoyama, and I soon found the options I wanted to try. I chose the Kani salad with crab, spicy sauce, and thinly sliced cucumber, a spicy crunch salmon roll, and the Impossible Roll. Everything I had was well prepared and presented. It's a mild ramen and even though my spice tolerance is low I felt I could use some spice! So if you want something mild and light spiced this is your option! Kotoyama Ramen and Sushi is an excellent restaurant in Carmel off of E 116th Street. I treated myself to the Teriyaki Chicken Ramen and the Chicken Kara age for dinner tonight through Uber Eats. Both were wonderful and delicious! The Teriyaki Chicken Ramen was flavorful and the noodles were prepared just perfectly. The chicken Kara age was delicious and the spicy Mango sauce was just perfect! It paired very well together! I have not been to the actual venue to eat, but I can imagine it is wonderful. My plan is to visit the venue in the near future. There are many excellent Ramen places in Indianapolis, and I would say Kotoyama ranks up there in the top ten. We get excited whenever we hear of a new ramen or pho place nearby so as soon as I saw yelp suggesting this place, I knew we had to go. Its an easy find by the baskin & robins, with plenty of parking spots. We were seated immediately. The place was busy but not loud. Nonetheless, we went with chicken karaage and char siu bun for appetizer. The bun was pillowy soft with a good fatty char siu pork. The karaage was okay - I wasnt a big fan of how chewy the chicken was. For dinner we ordred a veggie stir fry ramen for my youngest. Rest of us got the beef Donburi, char siu ramen and super spicy ramen. Everything came to our table in reasonable time. The ramen stir fry was very tasty, there was a peppery taste to it that I loved a lot. The beef donburi was a tad bit on the sweet side but still tasty. I had opted for the char siu ramen and that was delicious as well, the char siu was a good fatty charred meat - however the broth was just okay, not a lot of mmmm factor to it. Similarly the super spicy ramen that my husband ordered was tasty but not very spicy and not something that knocks your socks off. The portions are huge, so we have plenty of leftovers. Lots to choose from on the menu. Everything we got was OK but not fabulous. The gyoza were chewy...just a consistency we aren't used to, and we eat a lot of gyoza. The ramen was pretty good. We got the spicy ramen, extra spicy and it had a good flavor. We also got some basic sushi rolls and they were good. The avocado in the salmon roll was too hard, like not edible. Ordering was easy to understand and quick. We even got an estimated time it would be done and text when it was ready. When we arrived, the restaurant was warm and inviting once inside. We were greeted by a very friendly female employee who checked to verify our order was accurate and wished us a safe drive home. Our food was packed well, fresh, and oh so yummy! We wanted to try a new ramen spot - at least newer to us. I had the beef ramen. The beef was thinly cut and perfectly cooked. Each piece was soft and succulent. The flavor of the beef really came through with the ramen broth. The egg was perfectly cooked, in perfect Japanese ramen style! The noodles were firm, able to carry the flavor of the broth. The takoyaki was crisp in exterior and perfectly smooth in the center! I hate when restaurants smother their takoyaki in too much mayo sauce - NOT here. They drizzled the sauce, let the bonito flakes carry and dance, and allowed the robust center to wow the palate! Pro tip: get a side of their home made chili oil! A delicate treat of heat and wondrous umami. Service was good, calm and relaxed inside, which was a relief considering other ramen shops in Carmel are always packed to the brim. read more

Walking in, it's beautiful inside. The hostess sat us immediately and the server came to our table quickly. They have two combos if you're eating by yourself or with another person -- and we opted for combo B -- 2 drinks, and appetizer, and 2 bowls of ramen. They have a list of things that you can add to your bowl, and don't ignore it. There are lots of goodies to add! Chili Paste -- if you enjoy a bit of heat, ask for this on the side. It's fantastic to add to your meal, or to eat on its own! Takoyaki -- these little balls of DELICIOUSNESS with octopus inside. Holy cow these were phenomenal. They come out piping hot, and the inside burned my mouth a little -- but my fault for not waiting for it to cool LOL. Beef Ramen -- the broth was so flavorful and had great depth. The beef was tender and cut so thin that it soaked up so much flavor. This was a fantastic bowl of ramen already, but then adding that chili paste sent it over the edge. Spicy Miso Ramen -- a lighter broth, slightly spiced. I needed a good amount of chili paste to bring it up to the spice level of my liking, but overall it was clean and smooth! The pork was the most tender I have EVER had and had an amazing char on it. The soy soaked eggs are Stellar! The noodles are legitimately cooked to absolute perfection!
