After attending a concert at the Palladium, we wanted something within walking distance that was still open at 9PM on a Saturday night. Everything closes so early in Carmel! Luckily, last call to order food is 9:45. We ordered salmon sashimi, Agedashi Tofu, Chicken Hibachi and Chicken Karaage. Also the veggie Gyoza which was not as flavorful as the pork. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I love how the restaurant is decorated with an abundance of cherry blossoms and a hot pink neon sign. Hanami is a very beautiful restaurant with plenty of seating indoors and on their covered patio area. I really love the pink flowers around the restaurant. The service was quick and cordial. The food is good, though could be better. We liked the fried tempura and the sauce that it comes with. I thought the Japanese curry was good and I enjoyed the pickled veggies, but the curry only thinly lay on top and it didn't have any carrots/potatoes in the curry. The fried pork cutlets were very yummy though. The yakisoba was good but the flavor was on the more mild side and the noodles seemed a little too soft for my liking. I have really come around to poke bowls. As I shuffle ever closer to my impending mortality, I realize that sometimes, it's OK to gamble with your digestive system by eating a bowl full of raw fish. You only live once, right? And who wants to live a life never tasting the delicate flesh of uncooked seafood? Certainly not I. So, when I saw that Hanami Sushi & Sake Bar has poke bowls on the menu, I was excited. I needed to feel the tender, Gusher-like jewels of raw salmon between my teeth. Plus rice! Plus lots of vegetables! All in one bowl. The salmon poke bowl at Hanami is beautifully presented, and also dressed just right. I felt really good eating it, because it had lots of good-for-me things in it, like avocado, carrots, radishes, edamame, and seaweed. The miso ramen was also ordered, medium spicy. Just an FYI, but medium spicy is pretty spicy! The miso ramen was really good, though, and came with a jammy egg, corn, rice cakes, scallions and lots of rich broth. No reservations were needed at Hanami, which was surprising to me because they were super busy, and they're located in the middle of Carmel's City Center. Despite the crowd, a table was procured quickly. It took a while to see a server once we were seated, but it's only because they were so busy. Servers were flying around the room trying to help everyone. The inside of the restaurant is very cute, and the outside is also adorable (faux cherry blossom trees line the outside of the front). You have to try the Dubai chocolate martini as a licked the edges of the glass. As I do NOT like any fish I ordered the crab Rangoon, it was delicious, I was disappointed by the size so if you typically share I suggest you order 2. It was nice you get an even number. I also ordered the chicken karaage appetizer which was also delicious with a spicy dipping sauce. Husband ordered the Karo miso salmon with a side of fried rice. Stopped in for a late lunch after a walk and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality here. I actually stumbled upon happy hour, which scores you discounted appetizers. Came for a quick sushi fix with my friend and I was very pleasantly surprised. Some of the best nigiri I've had in Indy - the fish was cut properly and the sushi rice was well seasoned and formed. I'm not a fan of chunky slices, bigger isn't better. Having the right ratio of rice to fish and the right amount of vinegar in the rice is better. Very well prepared. The other members of my party enjoyed their rolls - I like mine simple with only a few ingredients - but the rest of the table had good things to say. We had an early reservation (6pm) for a Sat night at the end of Feb. We were originally a party of 7 but ended up being just 5, which actually worked well because the booths are large, but our 7th would have had to be in a chair on the end of the table, so this was better. The hubs & I had previously dined here before, our 3 guests had not, and tonight was to celebrate my bday. The food was all gorgeous and tasty . We had edaname, seaweed salad, soup, goyzo. Went there today for lunch. Almost completely empty, only two tables full. It said wait to be seated, so I stood there. And stood there. And stood there some more. I had a wonderful lunch today. My first time at Hanami. It is a beautiful large restaurant with pretty decor. I was hesitant at first since the restaurant had sushi, sake and a large variety of soups for lunch specials. However, the miso soup with noodles was terrific and at $13 it was a bargain and very filling. The sushi (salmon seared) was delicious and the portion of fish was very large. We made a reservation so no issues as we were sat promptly. The restaurant is nicely decorated, loved all the cherry blossoms. We started off with a whiskey sour and glass of wine. They have a large menu so sure to have something for everyone. For a starter, we ordered the tuna tartare which was our favorite dish of all. It was so fresh and flavorful. We also ordered the Lava (on fire), the Kara miso salmon, and the avocado cucumber roll. Second favorite was the Lava. The other two were good but nothing that wowed us. I would recommend to make sure you leave enough time if you have something to attend after as the service is a bit slow.
