Hanami is a very beautiful restaurant with plenty of seating indoors and on their covered patio area. I really love the pink flowers around the restaurant. The service was quick and cordial. The food is good, though could be better. We liked the fried tempura and the sauce that it comes with. I thought the Japanese curry was good and I enjoyed the pickled veggies, but the curry only thinly lay on top and it didn't have any carrots/potatoes in the curry. The fried pork cutlets were very yummy though. The yakisoba was good but the flavor was on the more mild side and the noodles seemed a little too soft for my liking. I have really come around to poke bowls. As I shuffle ever closer to my impending mortality, I realize that sometimes, it's OK to gamble with your digestive system by eating a bowl full of raw fish. You only live once, right? And who wants to live a life never tasting the delicate flesh of uncooked seafood? Certainly not I. So, when I saw that Hanami Sushi & Sake Bar has poke bowls on the menu, I was excited. I needed to feel the tender, Gusher-like jewels of raw salmon between my teeth. Plus rice! Plus lots of vegetables! All in one bowl. The salmon poke bowl at Hanami is beautifully presented, and also dressed just right. I felt really good eating it, because it had lots of good-for-me things in it, like avocado, carrots, radishes, edamame, and seaweed. The miso ramen was also ordered, medium spicy. Just an FYI, but medium spicy is pretty spicy! The miso ramen was really good, though, and came with a jammy egg, corn, rice cakes, scallions and lots of rich broth. No reservations were needed at Hanami, which was surprising to me because they were super busy, and they're located in the middle of Carmel's City Center. Despite the crowd, a table was procured quickly. It took a while to see a server once we were seated, but it's only because they were so busy. Servers were flying around the room trying to help everyone. The inside of the restaurant is very cute, and the outside is also adorable (faux cherry blossom trees line the outside of the front). The minute we walked in we couldn't help but take in the cute cherry blossom decorations and how spacious the restaurant was. We were quickly serviced and sat down. Having the right ratio of rice to fish and the right amount of vinegar in the rice is better. Very well prepared. We had an early reservation (6pm) for a Sat night at the end of Feb. We were originally a party of 7 but ended up being just 5, which actually worked well because the booths are large, but our 7th would have had to be in a chair on the end of the table, so this was better. They have a large menu so sure to have something for everyone. For a starter, we ordered the tuna tartare which was our favorite dish of all. It was so fresh and flavorful. We also ordered the Lava (on fire), the Kara miso salmon, and the avocado cucumber roll. Second favorite was the Lava. The other two were good but nothing that wowed us. I would recommend to make sure you leave enough time if you have something to attend after as the service is a bit slow. I seen this place on yelp and decided to try. I'm always hesitant about trying a sushi/ramen place in the mainland (I'm on a work trip, I'm from Hawaii) because I'm afraid that I'll be disappointed because I have high expectations lol. I was glad I came here because the food is phenomenal. I had the seafood soi ramen, wasabi shumai, and hamachi sashimi. The sashimi tasted fresh and was good as any hamachi I've had back home, the wasabi shumai was excellent but not so much wasabi flavor.. it was just a hint of it, and the star of the show was the ramen. The seafood tasted pretty fresh, there were scallops, squid rings, shrimp, and mussels and all were cooked well. It has a coconut curry base and the coconut flavor was not overpowering at all. I told them I was coming back before I leave and it will be my dinner tonight! Edit: I went back for dinner and had the takoyaki, ahi sashimi, and had to do the Seafood Soi Ramen again. Everything was just as good as my first visit! Takoyaki was good with a nice healthy piece of Tako in the middle and the ahi was more fatty than the ahi I get back home which was a nice surprise. I also tried the Sake flight#2 and they give a good amount for only $19. Staff was very friendly and welcoming, and they were on top of it both times I visited.
