I want to preface this review that I have been to Japan before and I am still VERY impressed with the food here! My husband and I are sushi fanatics and wanted to find some really good, locally owned sushi here in Indianapolis. We knew the restaurant was going to be good when there was a line 10 minutes before they opened! We ordered a lot of appetizers and sushi rolls and were pleasantly impressed. The staff were SO nice and made conversation with us. The inside is very cozy and homey feeling, such a nice place for dinner.

I really enjoyed dining here! The ambience and service were very warm and welcoming. The menu has a lot of variety so, whether you like sushi or not, you'll find something for you. There were several vegetarian appetizers, I tried the Agedashi Dofu and the Teriyaki Mushrooms which were both delicious and flavorful. I also had the Ume Chazuke which was also very good. The plum was quite sour but was balanced by the light broth and the freshness green onions. I would definitely order again. The vege roll was okay, a little boring, but not bad. My partner shared the appetizers with me and he also really liked them, even as someone who doesn't typically eat tofu. He also had the nigiri combo and really enjoyed the selection, save for the tamago nigiri. Everything was fresh! The portion sizes were very generous for everything we ordered and at a nice price point. We can't wait to come back!

Very good sushi at very unbeatable prices. Im consistently shocked at the prices around Indy, I moved from Seattle earlier this year and our entire bill at Sakura is the same cost as 1.5 rolls in the Seattle area. Its always very busy which is a great sign. The only issue we had was parking, very limited amount of spaces and we had to wait upwards of 20 minutes for the rest of our group to join us just because they couldn't find a spot to park. I dont want to ding a star just for parking, but they definitely need to figure something out.

Kind of a cool place that' seems a bit of a hidden gem. Off of keystone this lil restaurant has a wonderful ambiance of Japanese style and a very impressive menu. I got sushi but the noodles and gyoza looked amazing. There is construction outside the restaurant from keystone but it was really easy to get in and out. The service was great and sushi was excellent. Perfect place to try out some authentic sushi and Japanese food.

Hoosier, rock and roll, Florida mixed roll

This place was super packed on a Saturday night. I found that to be a great sign. We called ahead because I couldn't get their website to work (link from Yelp page). We had the chicken teriyaki, which came with carrots and broccoli and a side salad. We also got 3 sushi rolls- Hoosier, Florida mixed roll and rock and roll. The sushi was delicious. They were kind enough to also sell me 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream for my kids!

Chef's choice sashimi platter

Had a late last minute hunger for raw fish. They were very accommodating with just 10 minutes before their kitchen close. I had the chef's choice sashimi platter $60. Approximately 23 pieces of tuna, yellowtail, scallops, mackerel, salmon, and more. A little on the expensive side, but it was fresh. Service was good. Ambiance was nice, everyone seemed to be having a good time.

I kept hearing that Sakura has the best sushi in Indy... and I think this party agrees! We always drive past it and have never assumed much, but wow! The ginger dressing on the salad was the best I've ever had, miso soup was great, and the teriyaki chicken was delicious and big enough for two meals with leftovers. Highly recommend! Despite not having a reservation on a busy night, they fit us into this lively restaurant. Be sure to call ahead to avoid a wait.

This place continues to have fresh food for reasonable prices. I love coming here for sushi and it never disappoints. The only negative is they are Pepsi not Coke haha. We got Shrimp Shumai for an appetizer and it was so good. Love a good steamed dumpling! For dinner we got: yellowtail roll, spider roll, samurai roll, salmon roe Everything was great. Just wish the spider roll wasn't as mushy it fell apart by the end too easily but had good flavor/taste

Best and the original sushi in indy. Service including hand made sushi makes the ambiance fantastic because everything is created by hand with care for you!! I always take out of towners here

Gyoza

A great sushi spot! We love to get a variety of sushi rolls to share. Prices are decent and the service is good, but it can get busy on weekends at dinner time, so I would not go if you are in a rush.

It's been a minute and nothing has changed. Sakura still delivers incredibly fresh food at reasonable prices. We took the risk at 7:30 on a Saturday and only had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. The space is tight and quaint and perfect. Always a good time!

A bunch of sushi

I've been here a few times as it's one of the closest Japanese restaurants near me. Cool little spot that always seems to be busy! Service is great. I've had the sashimi, a few different rolls, and a couple different ramens/udons. All in all it's pretty good. Will continue going here once a month or so as it's a good option for Indy sushi.

Nothing completely blew me away, but I did really enjoy the kushiyaki. We definitely left full by the end. There was about a 15 minute wait on a Saturday around 7 pm. At first the setup was a little confusing, but our server explained everything well. You order from the screen at your table, and if you need help there is a call server button. It actually reminded us a lot of revolving sushi places we visited in Japan. At the end they even give you a little prize capsule, which was a fun touch since capsule toys were everywhere in Japan too. My favorite part is watching the sushi move around the restaurant. They also have little delivery cars and robot servers that bring food to the table. It never felt too loud or chaotic either. I would definitely come back again, especially with a group.

Sushi Bar in Broad Ripple has been a staple restaurant of mine for lunch, dinner, date nights,…read morefamily weekend, or any special occasion since moving to Indianapolis. This has remained a top contender of sushi restaurants in the Indianapolis area for me, not only because of the wide variety of sushi and wine that never disappoints, but also because of the friendly service and welcoming environment that has remained consistent for the past four years I have been coming here. Last week, my parents and I decided to go to Sushi Bar during Family Weekend at Butler University, which just so happens to be a consistent restaurant that we have happened to come to every family weekend. The fish and food here are always top-notch for very reasonable prices, and the staff are always very nice and remember you. I always start with miso soup and white rice, typically order salmon nigiri (one or maybe two orders), then typically a rainbow roll, but I stepped out of my comfort zone this time and tried the Narudo roll, which was very fresh and appealing with the cucumber wrapping instead of the typical seaweed paper. They also have delicious mochi for dessert if you aren't full from all of the delicious sushi! Sushi Bar will always be my go-to restaurant for a girls' night, when family is in town, date night, or a solo lunch adventure! I highly recommend checking out Sushi Bar in Broad Ripple if you haven't yet!!

Still enjoyed this Broad Ripple roll spot amidst the amazing Garden Table, Flatwater, and other top tier restaurants due to the kids wanting sushi. Neat to see outdoor dining too which is quite rare for Asian cuisine but we noticed rain coming and couldn't sit outside. Staff treated us great, pleasant atmosphere, quiet and offering plenty of space, and menus are massive with more than enough variety of tuna, salmon, shrimp, squid, lobster, and more! Started with gyoza and crab rangoon, both done in the classical style. The wooden step presentation of our five more rolls appeared for fun eating. I really want to recommend yet for the prices, dropping over eighty for my friend, his kid, and myself, ingredients and freshness does not align. Tho what do I know? It quickly became busy with five other tables filling up with dates and others so I'm sure moms will be pleased with the moderate spice levels and easy to eat sauces. Surprisingly good selection of beers are priced well, if I had not filled up on the Ash and Elm Autumn festival moments earlier would have got a Sapporo!

Party of 2 and we got right in on a Tuesday night. Our server gave us a quick breakdown of how to order and she told us what they were out of and then left us to it. The salad /topping bar was very limited, but it had good kimchi and some fresh fruit. The first round of meat was only 2 pieces on a plate so not too intimidating. They mentioned to us that what you don't eat you get charged extra for so we didn't want to waste food. But our second order of meat was 7 or 8 pieces on the plate, which was harder to eat. The meat was all very interesting cuts of fatty meat that you have to be comfortable eating.
