From the outside you would never expect that this is the coolest little ramen shop. I absolutely loved all the decor and our ramen was great! My brother has been to Japan multiple times so his ramen standards were high and he even really liked it! It is the best ramen I have found in Indy so far. I loved how helpful the staff was when ordering and they even had fun drink options!
A quaint little ramen shop that packs a lot of flavor. I appreciate when a restaurant has a small menu that they do well. I opted for the shoyu ramen. A rich pork broth was complimented with crunchy bean sprouts, springy noodles, and fresh green onions, I always love the addition of a fish cake in my ramen as well. I think we only waited maybe about 5 minutes for our food to come out. Ramen Ray is great when you're craving something comforting!
Service was very good and attentive. Food was great! My wife and I really enjoyed our lunch date.
Ramen can be VERY hit or miss. Pulling up to this place you can just tell it's going to be good. The menu is small, but for good reason. They do their ramen well. The Black Garlic Tonkotsu was full of flavor and very filling, and the miso spicy wasn't too spicy, but gave just the kick you were looking for. Both dishes came piping hot. Obviously you have to bag some gyoza - and these were fresh, soft, with a slight crust. Already looking forward to my next trip.
Ramen Ray has long been on my list, and I finally went! Again, growing up in Japan, I am VERY picky about Ramen and it's authenticity. It is sad to admit there are not many authentic ramen options in Indy. But multiple friends from Japan told me they tried and liked Ramen Ray. I had high anticipation. I tried their tan tan pork and it was good. Not mind blowing, but it's good. On their website they claim it's from Hokkaido, Japan. I can believe that after tasting this. But when it comes to thickness and richness, I'd still prefer Kizuki and Jinya. However I'd say this is the best in Indianapolis!
When this place first opened I feel like it was the only place in Indy that served ramen. Now there are a ton of places so I hate to say it but I haven't been in recently because it was out of the way. I'm happy to be stopping in today because I have always loved the broth and gyoza. Since I've been away I can see some of the updates they have made. You can check in at a kiosk if you prefer it and their menu options have grown to include more ramen and curry!
Friendly service. Chef greeted us and ask if we had any questions about the menu. Food was excellent.
If you have never visited Ramen Ray, you will feel just like I do now, which is regret for not have coming to this place sooner! Ramen Ray has constantly been on my to try list, but because I have top Ramen in my mind when I think about noodles, I never made a visit a high priority. Boy was I wrong, worst mistake ever! We came to Ramen Ray as part of devour in these two week restaurant deal event. My husband and I each ordered a bowl of our own Ramen and we were able to share an order of potstickers followed by mochi ice cream. I don't think I've ever had quite an experience like I had at Ramen Ray where as soon as they set the bowl of food down in front of me and I took a smell, I knew this was going to be one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. Everything was perfection. In a portion size of the noodles was glorious! The smell, the taste, the texture it was all tens across the board! My husband sat in silence for most of the meal quietly devouring everything in front of him. If he did make a sound it was only to say this place is so good! It was also my first time trying mochi ice cream which I was pleasantly surprised with! I will definitely be back for more!
ABSOLUTELY the best gyoza you can get. I haven't had any other near the flavor and texture. They are phenomenal!! The ramen leaves a lot to be desired. However, the customer service is great and the GTOZA are WELL WORTH the visit!
A hot bowl of ramen sounded delicious when I was under the weather on Christmas Eve, so we ordered delivery from Ramen Ray. I was concerned about how it would travel, but as you can see from the photo everything was carefully packaged and all I had to do was combine it all in my own bowl. We both ordered the spicy miso ramen since it was listed as most 'popular'. Though it's a little expensive, you get a huge portion. I was hoping it would be a little spicier, but the broth was very flavorful. I wasn't a big fan of the pork but the veggies and noodles were great and the egg was perfect. next time I'll probably try veggie or tofu and add extra spice.
This place has the best ramen in town!! I love the low key atmosphere. You order at the counter, choose a seat, and they bring your food out to you. It's hard to go wrong with really any of the Ramen, but the spicy miso is particularly good. It's kinda out in the middle of nowhere, but the parking is easy. Definitely a fun place to bring people who have never had ramen before.
This place is a breath of fresh air and an answer to many of the "locally owned" ramen restaurants in the Indianapolis area that can't cook an egg without messing it up. I had the black garlic ramen with an added egg. The noodles were perfectly done. The broth was on point. The egg was perfect. Nothing in downtown Indy is remotely on the same level as these people.
This is a shorter review as I was only able to do a carry out (This place is 2 hours away from home and I had a dog traveling with me on a very hot day). I called for pick up, and the person on the phone was very professional. I ordered the miso tan tan men with a side of pork gyozas amd sode of soft boil egg. Order was about 20 mins to be ready, which was perfectly how far i was from them. When I picked up, the food was packaged perfectly and beautifully (see pix). The broth was delicious and the noodles perfect. Highly recommend! I cannot wait to try this place as a sit in. It is a bit pricy.. 14 dollars for what I got and they could surely upgrade the soft boil (tho perfectly cooked) to a ramen egg option?
This is set up like a fast casual restaurant. You walk up to the register and place your order. They give you a number like Chick Filet, seat yourself and they bring the food to your table. They have self serve cold tea and water. Soda and beer is available for purchase as well. It's a small menu and doesn't take long to choose. We opted for full bowl size Spicy miso ramen. $31 for two orders. I think this is a bit overpriced for self serve and couple bowls of ramen. Service was much longer than expected. 30 minutes from paying for my order until it was brought out. Most ramen places I've tried take about 10-15 minutes to bring out your order. This was about 6:30 on a Friday evening. There was a help wanted sign outside so hopefully they'll speed up their orders. It looked like more than half of the customers were just waiting for their food. Spicy miso ramen - broth was excellent. Delicious flavor without being too salty. Ramen and egg were cooked perfectly. The 2 slices of pork were OK. It would've been much better with chashu (braised pork belly). For a $14 bowl of ramen I expected double the meat included. I'd probably return if I'm despcraving Japanese ramen, but I'm more likely to spend my money elsewhere. read more
Impromptu dine out at Ramen Rey after surveying the Devour Indy selection. Glad I did! We split the pork gyoza - they were perfectly crispy, light and flavorful. Since I was a first time diner I went with the miso ramen - pork, egg, corn, onion, and bean spouts all in a delish pork broth. It's perfect to slurp up! The mochi offering was a fun end to the meal. The space is small -isn't that how it should be? - so carry out seems to be even better than their dine in. I know I'll take advantage of that! read more

Food came out fast and tasted incredible. I got the Spicy Miso Ramen. There are options to add more spice and other sauces. Really cute interior, but you wouldn't realize it from driving past. The service was great as well, everyone was so friendly there. It was exactly what I wanted, will definitely go back! read more

This place is solid. I got the spicy miso ramen and my wife got the black garlic ramen. Both were really flavorful and delicious. The dumplings were crispy and on point too. The chashu pork could be a little tastier in my opinion and I think for the $14-15 bucks they could give you more than two slices. Overall though the ramen was good! I'd go back and would recommend this place to any friends. Btw they must be short staffed during covid so the poor cashier guy was serving, working the register, and busing tables. If that's still the same situation don't be alarmed if you aren't greeted immediately. To that young man, keep up the good work! Hopefully people tip you well read more

If my daughter could eat here every day for lunch this summer she would... we both love it here! Parking lot is small but there's always room if you go outside of typical lunch hours. Busy parking lots are a tell-tell sign of good business though so I don't mind even when it's snug during lunch. We love the gyoza and the spicy ramen oh yeah the Ramune fizzy sodas are really great too (we recently found them in the international aisle at meijer) read more

This is the first time in quite awhile since we've been here, but since it's a really cold day thought ramen sounded good. We both chose the Vegetable Shoyu Ramen so only one flavor to taste today...the best part is the broth, which seems like they make it themselves and not just from a seasoning packet. The noodles are good, and so were the veggies (could do without the onion slices). Not sure if memory is correct, but the portions seem smaller than they were previously? Also, since we both ordered the full size it was $14 each (just over $30 after taxes total) and we were still a little hungry for something else besides Gyoza. A little expensive for what you get, but as I mentioned above, the broth is very tasty and almost makes up for the price. read more
Ramen Ray has been on my list for months now and I am so glad I was able to check it out. I ordered the Miso ramen w/o the pork and I'm officially hooked. I wanted to try some mochi but the ramen was so filling I didn't have room for it. Which made for great leftovers the next day. Can't wait to go back! read more

Came here last night as my coworker and I were craving ramen and this was the perfect spot to have dinner and have a work meeting! The menu is fairly simple, with a variety of options for vegetarians, spicy/non-spicy lovers, pescatarians, and more. I opted for the vegetarian miso. It comes in a large bowl (rather quickly, too, I'll add) with lots of broth and noodles. You also get the sipping/slurping spoon and chopsticks. The reason for the reduction of the one star for me is that there didn't seem to be much substance for the vegetarian dish. There were a few slices of mushrooms and some greens/veggies, but compared to the meat-heavy miso (slices of beef and an egg), it just didn't seem like the protein was there for the vegetarian dish. That being said, it was delicious. The service was great as well. It came to be around $30 for two dishes, so it's not the cheapest dishes in town, but it's a lot of fun! Fun fact (and even more reason to support): it's a local, African American-owned business! read more
My husband and I came here on a Saturday night after getting a craving for ramen. We arrived around 7:30 (the place closes at 9) and it was packed! Most of the tables were full plus many people were waiting for carry out orders. You order at the counter before you sit and they give you a number to take back to your table. There's a menu on the wall and a more detailed description at the counter. While the drink selections are limited and relatively expensive ($2-3 for a can of non alcoholic beverage), the food portions are relatively large. We were so happy to see a favorite of ours as well, royal milk tea. By the time we finished ordering, more spots had opened up. We both ordered spicy miso and one order of pork gyoza. The food came out pretty quickly and the miso immediately smelled amazing. The gyoza was good, but a bit oily and not super warm - regardless, I would get it again. This time may have been a fluke. The miso was hot and spicy! The flavors were fantastic in the broth and there were plenty of toppings. We each ate our bowls quickly dreaming of the next time we can visit. read more
This is a tough one for me to award 3 or 4 stars. Why 4 stars? The ramen is delicious and filling. The decor has a fresh hipster without being too hipster feel. And finally, friendly and good service from the staff. Why 3 stars? Prices start at $13.50 for miso ramen which I think is about $2.00 too high for what you get. And that's it. Will I be back? Yes. Will I not come as often because of the price? Also yes. Will I give them 4 stars because of the food and service? Clearly. read more

For Indiana, I would give this 5 star, but I lived in Japan for 3 years and it doesn't quite match up. I did like that this was a Sapporo style ramen, which is usually miso based. There's nothing better than a Sapporo ramen with butter and corn on a cold day, and this was a very good attempt. The egg was a close representation of what they have in Japan, but I just don't think you can get the same eggs in America, the taste is different. I didn't like how the pork was all chopped up. But the broth was good, I had no problem finishing my bowl. It was disappointing the amount of people I saw in there eating ramen with a fork. It was really busy today, so it took a little longer than I wanted for the food to come out, but I will say they did a good job with service based on the amount of customers they had. I would eat there again, as it was great for Indiana. read more

I had been dying to try a ramen shop for what felt like a lifetime, and we finally were in the area of Ramen Ray which prompted our visit. We drove by it the first time as the building signage isn't the most obvious for Ramen Ray, but found it with a turnaround. We ordered the Miso Ramen and some potstickers (Gyoza) to-go, but ended up eating in when they discovered they had run out of carry-out containers. The seating includes a single room of several tables and a bar-like table against the back wall of the room. It was full at first, but we managed to steal a table as a couple was just finishing up. The food was very good and I added an extra egg for a few bucks. I wished the portions were slightly larger as I was still hungry for more at the conclusion of our meal, including eating all the potstickers. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and will be back for more if we're in the area! read more

Initially was very excited to check out the new Ramen spot on the North side. Unfortunately, I must have caught the kitchen on an off-day. First, the atmosphere is pretty dimly lit. Second, it wasn't very clear where the line began and whether I should order then sit or sit then order. The line also takes about 10-20 minutes to get through before you can take your ticket and have a seat. It took 45 minutes to prepare my ramen order and when it came out, it was cold with almost no broth (picture shown here). My friend and I asked if they could heat up our dishes and they don't have a microwave. Instead, the waitress kindly offered to get some broth, which made the whole experience much better. However, I ordered a water and the water pitcher you have to serve yourself from was never refilled after over an hour in the restaurant. Would be hesitant to return. read more

This place is a quick service ramen restaurant - you order at the corner and they bring your food to you. You gotta try the ramune soda if you've never had it before. It tastes like bubble gum pop but opening the bottle itself is a fun, unique experience! The prices are too high to justify coming all the time as a college student (which is funny because, you know, it's ramen) but I LOVED all the food. A half order of ramen was plenty for me. It was busy the entire time we were there on a Tuesday evening. Service was still quick though. read more
Ramen, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Prior to my first visit to Ramen Ray, I'd only tasted packaged ramen with the little flavor packets. The difference between that and the real thing is as big as the Grand Canyon. I can never go back! The noodles in Ramen Ray's broth are flavorful with a good bit of bite to them. I've ordered their spicy and regular misos, and sampled the shoyu broth. All are very good, but miso wins my heart. You get a healthy slice of pork with the ramen bowl, with additional garnishes varying by broth type, including things like corn, sprouts, and seaweed. They offer both full and half sizes, which I'm grateful for because a whole bowl can be a lot to tackle in one sitting. Another fairly recent addition is the potsticker appetizer in both pork and vegetarian varieties. I shared the pork with a friend during Devour and they were awesome! Ramen Ray is out of my usual driving radius, but it's worth the time and gas to get there. I'll admit that they're a little more pricey than what one would like to spend on ramen, but they've cornered the market as far as Indy goes. read more

Yas! Finally some good ramen! I have been wanting to try this place for awhile now, and I am now mad it took me so long. My boyfriend and I both had the spicy Miso soup & an order of the potstickers! Fabulous- only thing that will keep me from coming back monthly is the price BUT it is 100% Worth the price!!! They also offer a lunch menu and half bowls, so that is an extremely nice feature! We have already talked about coming back with more friends! read more
Miso Ramen is my favorite! I've tried a few other Ramen places around Indy and so far, this has always been my favorite. The noodles and the broth are the best! I like to get an extra soft-boiled egg - they are always cooked to perfection! My go-to is usually the ~$12 lunch special that includes a half portion of ramen, small side of rice and three gyoza (also delicious!). read more

The Ramen was pretty decent, wasn't as flavorful as I'd like it but the toppings made it a lot better. They have a water pitcher sitting out which is very nice but not really COVID friendly. Their seating is very cool and interesting. Service was pretty good as well! read more

Ramen Ray YAYs: -The staff at is cordial and friendly. I had my dogs out in the car on a rather frigid day, and when I asked for my take-out to be brought out to my car so I be with my pups, the staff said yes without hesitation. I was thankful for their kindness. -The half portion option allows you to eat "in moderation" or--on the other side of the coin--try multiple ramen bowls. -Ramen Ray has partnered with Grub Hub for delivery, so you don't even have to leave your house. -The pork-based miso broth is RICH - this would be the one I'd get again and again. Ramen Ray NAY: -The vegetarian broth is quite dull in comparison to the miso broth. I was pretty disappointed, as it reminded me of watered down soy sauce. Therefore, I don't think I'll be setting a lunch date with my meatless friends here. The miso broth ultimately saved the day on this review - puh-lease don't take it off the menu! read more
