The pork shoulder was cooked perfectly, the Spicy Ramen was jussttt spicy enough without it being too much and the extra noodles we got on the side really topped off our ramen so we had noodles available until the last drop. On top of all this, the Ramen is SO reasonably priced for the amount and the quality that you get. Though Ramen Ray is nowhere near where I'm located downtown, I will definitely be making the trip up to 71st street again soon to get more! We ordered the (8PC) gyoza, 2 Japanese pops and 2 orders of mochi. How much did that all cost? Well to be frank it was not cheap. The ramen on its own is about $14 for a full size. When you add drinks and desert it does add up. After tax and tip my bill came out to be around $50 for my boyfriend and I. Given that this was a hefty price for some ramen I can say with 100% confidence this DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!!! How so? $50 is a lot tho? Well heres the thing, I'm that type of person that doesn't mind paying that much AS LONG as the food meets my personal expectations. Once again Ramen Ray DID NOT DISAPPOINT! The gyoza was surprisingly crisp, but at the same time very soft like how a dumpling should be. The pork in the gyoza was so flavorful and dipping that dumpling in the sauce provided, made my taste buds FLYYYYYY! The ramen had a good chewy texture to it but you can definitely tell its higher quality than packaged ramen. The BROTH was the ultimate star of the show in my opinion. It was spicy, yet sweet, and the different toppings enhanced an extra layer of flavor that made the overall eating experience quit enjoyable. They also include pork and half an egg that is softly cooked. Overall oh my goodness soooo filling and so good! This is set up like a fast casual restaurant. You walk up to the register and place your order. They give you a number like Chick Filet, seat yourself and they bring the food to your table. They have self serve cold tea and water. Soda and beer is available for purchase as well. It's a small menu and doesn't take long to choose. We opted for full bowl size Spicy miso ramen. $31 for two orders. I think this is a bit overpriced for self serve and couple bowls of ramen. Service was much longer than expected. 30 minutes from paying for my order until it was brought out. Most ramen places I've tried take about 10-15 minutes to bring out your order. This was about 6:30 on a Friday evening. There was a help wanted sign outside so hopefully they'll speed up their orders. It looked like more than half of the customers were just waiting for their food. Spicy miso ramen - broth was excellent. Delicious flavor without being too salty. Ramen and egg were cooked perfectly. The 2 slices of pork were OK. It would've been much better with chashu (braised pork belly). For a $14 bowl of ramen I expected double the meat included. Impromptu dine out at Ramen Rey after surveying the Devour Indy selection. Glad I did! We split the pork gyoza - they were perfectly crispy, light and flavorful. Since I was a first time diner I went with the miso ramen - pork, egg, corn, onion, and bean spouts all in a delish pork broth. It's perfect to slurp up! The mochi offering was a fun end to the meal. This place is solid. I got the spicy miso ramen and my wife got the black garlic ramen. Both were really flavorful and delicious. The dumplings were crispy and on point too. The chashu pork could be a little tastier in my opinion and I think for the $14-15 bucks they could give you more than two slices. Overall though the ramen was good! I'd go back and would recommend this place to any friends. Btw they must be short staffed during covid so the poor cashier guy was serving, working the register, and busing tables. If that's still the same situation don't be alarmed if you aren't greeted immediately. To that young man, keep up the good work! Hopefully people tip you well read more

If my daughter could eat here every day for lunch this summer she would... we both love it here! Parking lot is small but there's always room if you go outside of typical lunch hours. Came here last night as my coworker and I were craving ramen and this was the perfect spot to have dinner and have a work meeting! The menu is fairly simple, with a variety of options for vegetarians, spicy/non-spicy lovers, pescatarians, and more. I opted for the vegetarian miso. It comes in a large bowl (rather quickly, too, I'll add) with lots of broth and noodles. You also get the sipping/slurping spoon and chopsticks. The reason for the reduction of the one star for me is that there didn't seem to be much substance for the vegetarian dish. There were a few slices of mushrooms and some greens/veggies, but compared to the meat-heavy miso (slices of beef and an egg), it just didn't seem like the protein was there for the vegetarian dish. That being said, it was delicious. The service was great as well. It came to be around $30 for two dishes, so it's not the cheapest dishes in town, but it's a lot of fun! My husband and I came here on a Saturday night after getting a craving for ramen. We arrived around 7:30 (the place closes at 9) and it was packed! Most of the tables were full plus many people were waiting for carry out orders. You order at the counter before you sit and they give you a number to take back to your table. There's a menu on the wall and a more detailed description at the counter. While the drink selections are limited and relatively expensive ($2-3 for a can of non alcoholic beverage), the food portions are relatively large. We were so happy to see a favorite of ours as well, royal milk tea. By the time we finished ordering, more spots had opened up. We both ordered spicy miso and one order of pork gyoza. The food came out pretty quickly and the miso immediately smelled amazing. The gyoza was good, but a bit oily and not super warm - regardless, I would get it again. This time may have been a fluke. Such a cute and inviting space in what appears to be an old fast food restaurant. We told them it was our first visit, so they did very nice run down of the menu and made some great suggestions. We decided to share the full size Spicy Miso and Pork Gyoza Potstickers (which they said were great to dip in the spicy miso and they were right - delish!) You place your order at the counter, take a number and wait for them to bring your food out. We waited about 5-7 minutes for our food. Just long enough for us to enjoy a little of our craft beer while we waited. They had a nice small beer selection (in cans and bottles), but no wine or alcohol. Everything was delicious and the staff was very friendly. Only two things weren't so great during our visit, but not worthy of deducting stars. #1 - When they brought our food, they said they would be back with spoons for the ramen and forgot. We got halfway through the bowl and had to go back up to the counter and ask for them. #2 - Our ramen bowl was chipped with one piece about ready to release itself into our bowl. We looked around and others dining had chipped bowls as well. Not very safe for something you're slurping away at in a large spoon. We'll be back when in the area. It truly was delicious. read more

For Indiana, I would give this 5 star, but I lived in Japan for 3 years and it doesn't quite match up. I did like that this was a Sapporo style ramen, which is usually miso based. There's nothing better than a Sapporo ramen with butter and corn on a cold day, and this was a very good attempt. The egg was a close representation of what they have in Japan, but I just don't think you can get the same eggs in America, the taste is different. I didn't like how the pork was all chopped up. I will say- I tasted the broth of the Miso and I actually think I prefer that better. You can taste the complex flavors of the broth much better when there's not all that spice. I had been dying to try a ramen shop for what felt like a lifetime, and we finally were in the area of Ramen Ray which prompted our visit. We drove by it the first time as the building signage isn't the most obvious for Ramen Ray, but found it with a turnaround. We ordered the Miso Ramen and some potstickers (Gyoza) to-go, but ended up eating in when they discovered they had run out of carry-out containers. The seating includes a single room of several tables and a bar-like table against the back wall of the room. It was full at first, but we managed to steal a table as a couple was just finishing up. The food was very good and I added an extra egg for a few bucks. I wished the portions were slightly larger as I was still hungry for more at the conclusion of our meal, including eating all the potstickers. Initially was very excited to check out the new Ramen spot on the North side. Unfortunately, I must have caught the kitchen on an off-day. First, the atmosphere is pretty dimly lit. Second, it wasn't very clear where the line began and whether I should order then sit or sit then order. The line also takes about 10-20 minutes to get through before you can take your ticket and have a seat. It took 45 minutes to prepare my ramen order and when it came out, it was cold with almost no broth (picture shown here). My friend and I asked if they could heat up our dishes and they don't have a microwave. Instead, the waitress kindly offered to get some broth, which made the whole experience much better. However, I ordered a water and the water pitcher you have to serve yourself from was never refilled after over an hour in the restaurant. Would be hesitant to return. read more

Some have mentioned that the prices are pretty hefty for noodle soup. I've increased my tipping during COVID to try to keep local spots viable, but I must confess that it is a struggle to pay $18 for soup--no gyoza, bread, hot tea, mochi, or anything else comes with that. I used to enjoy the lunch combo, but that has been discontinued. In the end, I guess it's the consumer's decision about how much they value excellent ramen. I wish everyone was more open to this concept. I think most are stuck in the mindset that ramen should be cheap because you use to eat the awful packages from Kroger in college. Ramen is an art! I grew up with Asian parents and every time we had dinner, the food takes a lot of TLC to prepare and people assume it's effortless. I appreciate this place a lot because I know that the ramen is made from scratch and cut daily and the ingredients are fresh and the broth takes hours/days to make. Every slurp of a noodle is the perfect texture and amount of saltiness. I don't mind paying a little more for authentic food. I would mention that as a newbie to ramen, this establishment could be a little more proactive in explaining the process and perhaps people would accept that. Ramen, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Prior to my first visit to Ramen Ray, I'd only tasted packaged ramen with the little flavor packets. The difference between that and the real thing is as big as the Grand Canyon. I can never go back! The noodles in Ramen Ray's broth are flavorful with a good bit of bite to them. I've ordered their spicy and regular misos, and sampled the shoyu broth. All are very good, but miso wins my heart. You get a healthy slice of pork with the ramen bowl, with additional garnishes varying by broth type, including things like corn, sprouts, and seaweed. They offer both full and half sizes, which I'm grateful for because a whole bowl can be a lot to tackle in one sitting. Another fairly recent addition is the potsticker appetizer in both pork and vegetarian varieties. I shared the pork with a friend during Devour and they were awesome! Ramen Ray is out of my usual driving radius, but it's worth the time and gas to get there. I'll admit that they're a little more pricey than what one would like to spend on ramen, but they've cornered the market as far as Indy goes. read more
