The sushi bento box was the perfect amount of food for lunch, which came with a salad or soup, California roll, a choice of an entree roll (I got Spider Roll), spring roll, crab Rangoon, 2 gyoza, and sauces. we dined in on a wednesday night and were seated immediately. they were busy but not full. our server was very lively and friendly. this was my second time visiting and i was looking forward to the lychee martini which i had previously. however, they no longer have cocktails - only bottled drinks (beer, wine, & sake). i ended up trying a kirin beer which was okay but i'm not a beer lover. we started with veggie gyoza which comes fried. it was steaming and perfectly crispy! delicious - not many places offer a veggie gyoza so it was nice to be able to get it. i ordered the yaki-udon with veggies. it came quickly and was pretty good. i love the chewy texture of the udon noodles. it was covered in some kind of sauce that was tasty but it was also greasy. my boyfriend ordered a salmon sushi bento box and loved it. for the price point and serving sizes, it's a good casual option! read more

Our experience this visit was a bit mid, but only due to a fellow patron being on speaker phone with a service representative for most of our meal -- something we unfortunately couldn't tune out. My family and I went out to dinner at Bento Cafe on 4/28. We arrived at around 7pm, and we did not have to wait to be seated. We were offered a booth or a table, and we chose a booth directly across from the sushi counter. Unfortunately, we made the wrong choice of sitting there because all we could smell was the overpowering scent of cleaning supplies (bleach?) from the kitchen. It was nauseating, and I couldn't enjoy my meal. For dinner, I decided to try something new and ordered the Yaki Udon noodles. The noodles themselves were gummy and sticky, and not at all what I was expecting. The menu said the noodles came with "veggies," but the only vegetable in the whole dish was green onion. Plus, there was hardly any chicken in a dish that was advertised to have "shrimp and chicken." Finally, everything on the plate was completely drenched in soy sauce, which gave me an awful stomachache. I would rate my meal 1 star, but the reason for my 3 stars overall is because of the experience for the rest of my family. My sister and mom both love the spicy tuna rolls and Spider-Man rolls, and we all enjoyed the fried pork gyoza for an appetizer. I have only ever had take out from this restaurant, and the deal with take out is it is usually a half step under what you would receive while dining in. That being said, all of the sushi I have had for take out has been extremely good and fresh. It is usually the hot dishes that fall a little flat on the take out side, but I have never been unhappy with what I have received. The staff is always very friendly and they always have orders ready by the time they give you for pick up. Years ago, I came here regularly with a friend for lunch and really enjoyed it. So when I was nearby for a workshop that had a lunch break, I was super excited to be so close to Bento! I had remembered it for its excellent lunch special, quick and friendly service, and delicious food. When I got here, I found that the menu had changed and prices had increased--no big deal! To be expected. As a vegetarian, I was disappointed, though, that while all entrees used to include a tofu option, there were only one or two on the menu now. I ordered what I could and it was good! Just wasn't what I was expecting. If I had been in a huge rush, I wouldn't have chosen to go to a sit-down restaurant to begin with, but it was a lunch HOUR. Staff seemed stretched thin and service was slow (which I'm always understanding of if they're friendly!). By the time my food arrived, I didn't have much time to eat it, and to be honest, it was fine but didn't blow me away. I ordered pepper steak dinner box, everything on the plate except the pepper steak and rice were ok. When I took the first bite of pepper steak I instantly spit it out, it tasted like spoiled meat. I asked for fried rice, it was pretty much white rice with a little sauce but not enough for the right to be brown -white rice. We were on crunch time because we had to make it to our next destination so I was not able to send my food back and wait for something different.
