My favorite Thai in Indy! It's hard to get into and you have to be 21 to enter, but it's well worth it!

Been to Bodhi several times and recently went in with my wife and her friend, who has gluten, dairy, and soy allergies. Can confirm it still slaps and is good for those with dietary sensitivities. I've heard SO many good things about BODHI and finally got the chance to try it. I genuinely cannot believe it took me so long to try it, but WOW! The food was actually insanely good and I'll be dreaming of these spring rolls until i get them again. the chicken wings might be some of the best in the city with a proper sauce. for the pad thai i did heat level 2 and that was plenty for me honestly. the mocktail was delicious, i just wish it was a litttttle bit bigger. it did take quite some time to get a refill, which was the only downside because my mouth was hawwwwt lol next time i'm 100% going to go for a table on the patio if possible! read more

The restaurant only offers dinner and doesn't open until 5 PM. My friend made reservations a week in advance for Sunday right at opening. They have the option to come in stand by so you can take your chances if you don't make reservations, but they do seat reservations first. The last time I visited, they didn't take reservations, so it's nice that they offer them now. Just a heads-up: they do require a card on file, and if not everyone in your party shows up, there's a $25 per person charge. I arrived around 4:30 PM and noticed there's a small parking lot in front of the building, along with metered street parking. The lot looked full at first, but I lucked up and grabbed a spot right in-front of the building. Since it was Sunday, parking was free, definitely a bonus, otherwise the parking spaces in the lot are metered. It was a beautiful day, and it looked like the outdoor seating was open. The last time I came, it was too cold, so that area wasn't available, nice to see the difference. The interior is very small, so having the outside open can accommodate for more guests. Our server, Kristy, was friendly and welcoming. They have a unique cocktail menu. I tried the 7 Realms of Happiness, a bourbon-based cocktail. It was smooth, easy to drink, and not too strong, pretty good, but on the expensive side for $20. The food menu has some tasty choices. The apps we shared were the crab puffs and the spring rolls, I love these, so good. I was stuck between a stir fry or noodles. I decided on the Chili & Basil with steak (spice level: 2 peppers) and glad I did. It had a nice kick, definitely on the spicier side, but the flavor was so good, it was delicious! The portion was generous, and I even had leftovers. There was a $5 upcharge for the steak, which felt pricey, but I loved it. My party came on a weekend night without a reservation- they said we could sit right away outside (it was chilly) we didn't want to wait a few hours so we took them up! They didn't have heaters but they did have a small fire going. Our server was attentive. We ordered the wings which were crispy but lacked seasoning- it relied on the sauce for the flavor. Believe the hype. Bodhi is amazing. Even more amazing is that they just recently started accepting reservations, which changed everything for me. You see, you used to have to line up and wait in order to get a table. I ain't got time for all that, so I put Bodhi at the bottom of my must-visit restaurant list. But! Now you can make a reservation, and everything is seamless. We even arrived about 15 minutes before our reservation, and they were able to seat us right away. Keep in mind: Bodhi is 21+ only. No pesky kids! I ordered the spring rolls, which are five crispy, perfect rolls filled with vermicelli and vegetables, and served with a sweet plum sauce. These are addicting! And this appetizer came out very quickly, which was nice because I was very hungry. My go-to at a Thai joint is usually pad Thai. I know! I'm so basic. But I decided that at a supremely excellent restaurant, I needed to expand myself a little, so I got the Braised Chicken Yellow Curry. The server told me it was his favorite, and I can see why. It was the best curry I've ever eaten, with fall-off-the-bone chicken thighs, carrots, potatoes and onion swimming in that golden curry. Jasmine rice comes in a separate bowl, and I spooned the curry over the rice and ate delicious bites of curry and chicken-studded rice. It was a perfect, comforting bowl of Thai goodness. The pad Thai was also ordered (because we had to taste it), and it was so good, and the portion is huge. You can choose your spice level, and medium is just hot enough. Bodhi is known for their cocktails. I'm not really a big cocktail person (I like my red wine), but again, I felt like I needed to change things up a bit. So I asked the server what kind of cocktail I should order if I like gin. He suggested the Herb & Leaf, which is a tarragon and curry-infused gin with Cocchi Americano white wine and vermouth. He warned me that is was very herbaceous and bitter, and it was, and I loved it. I don't like sweet alcoholic drinks, which is why I stay away from most cocktails, but the Herb & Leaf is perfect for those of us who like green, bitter drinks. Bodhi was insanely busy for a weeknight, so definitely make reservations, if you can. But they do still take walk-ins, so if you're feeling lucky, you might get a table. read more

In town for work so friend and I tried Bodhi. Definitely feels like a vide kinda of restaurant for local. Our server was very friendly, all the staff was actually. Food was good and full of flavor. The wings were excellent! The steak salad I found to pretty damn good as well. Chili basil pork for sure was pretty on point. The edamame.In it was a strange addition. They didn't have any Thai chilis in fish sauce but they did have a house made hot sauce that had lots of flavor. Overall great meal just not super authentic Thai, just a tad bougie. Our new number one favorite restaurant in Indy! Bodhi was on our list for a long time but we were saving it for a special occasion and for a time that worked to risk a walk-in. Now that they take reservations, we figured a new year's dinner was the way to go! The restaurant decor was beautiful - low, warm lighting and moody art, cozy dining area with the fancy cocktail bar vibe. I started off with a Fruit and Fire, which was a little spicy (hot) but I really liked it. My wife had the NA Yen and she really liked it. For starters, we had the crab puffs and papaya salad. The crab Puffs were good but the papaya salad was shockingly delicious. It was very well balanced, fresh, and just so good. For the mains, my wife had the steak Drunken Noodles and our waiter recommended the Chili & Basil Pork (heat level 3). The Drunken Noodles was really good but my dish was definitely the star of the show. The heat level and flavors were just a masterpiece. I cannot wait to go back for more! The portion sizes were pretty great for the price as well. And to finish, we had the Kinnaree and the No-Sin-Aree, both refreshing! 10/10 across the board! We were really excited to try Bodhi! We looked ahead at the menu and already knew what we wanted when we walked in. We were told at the start that there was an hour and about half seating time. We had no intention of staying that long. Again, we looked ahead and ordered immediately. As we sat, it took about 5-10 to get water and be greeted. We ordered drinks, app, and meals at the first encounter. The spring rolls came out pretty quickly. They were crispy and delicious. We waited over 20 minutes for our cocktails. Our entrees took over an hour. Our waitress stopped back once during that entire time. We had no idea when the food was coming. We sadly flirted with the 90 min rule because of our wait. I dropped in this past Saturday evening, and while the secret is clearly out (the parking lot was quite buzzing!), it was well worth the short wait. I'd highly recommend arriving a bit on the early side to secure your spot in this darling establishment. The hospitality was simply top-tier. Even with the Saturday rush, the staff was beyond gracious and whisked my assistant and me to a perfectly situated table. I am absolutely obsessed with the decor here the way the lush plants are integrated so closely with the tables creates such a unique, high-end "secret garden" aesthetic. It is truly a special setup! We opted for the Spring Rolls and the Crab Puffs, and the efficiency was remarkable they arrived in a mere few minutes. Bold flavors yet refreshing in every sip. Moo Satay, standard satay with great fresh flavors. Naan was okay, just a bit dry/thicker for my preference. Braised chicken curry was amazing. The chicken was falling off the bone and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. This dish is a Michelin star winner in my Thai Curry book. The drunken noodles were made Thai spicy, aka VERY spicy, definitely needed a few pauses between bites but wow... absolutely delicious. It was "esquicito" like we say back home... you know, exquisite. Sidenote* The Fruits and Fire cocktail sipped on after the drunken noodles added a refreshing oomph to that pairing. Giving 5 stars to this place is a wake up call that the other 5 stars I've been awarding did not deserve it! The food here was phenomenal! We didn't have a reservation, but showed up at 7 pm on a Friday night. The waitlist said 90-110 minutes, so we went across the street and had a drink. We checked back after about 40 minutes and they were able tog eat us in. They had not notified us and it seemed that we got in just because we checked back and asked nicely... they moved some things around to make it happen, much appreciated! You must try the coconut chicken soup! So bright, limey and flavorful, and great to share. We also had the steak salad which was delicious but quite spicy- and I like spice! Can't believe I'm just now reviewing Bodhi, because this is easily one of my favorite Thai spots. Every visit is consistently excellent. My husband and I lucked out with a Thursday evening walk-in and only waited about 15 minutes -- a rare win here -- which made it even better since we were celebrating that night. Once seated, we had an incredible server who nailed every recommendation. I was in the mood to branch out, so I went with the Françoise & Étienne cocktail and the chili basil pork for my main. The drink was exactly my vibe -- sweet, balanced, and sophisticated. We started with spring rolls and crab puffs, which came out quickly and were the perfect way to kick things off. The chili basil pork was packed with flavor and absolutely delicious. My husband stuck with his go-to drunken noodles, which never disappoint. We ended the night with dessert -- ube and pandan brownies topped with yuzu whipped cream -- and yes, it was just as good as it sounds. WOW! who would have known that one of the best thai spots would be in Indianapolis! Everything here was AMAZING! There was an hour wait, but it was well worth it. The vibes inside were great. I loved the decor inside. We were seated at the bar, and the shelves were lined with bottles. I also loved all the greenery that lined the other side of the wall. I also want to mention that the presentation of all the food was gorgeous!! To start, we tried the spiked Thai tea. It was awesome! I've never had a spiked Thai tea before, and this blew me out of the water. You couldn't even tell that it was spiked, which is a dangerous mix LOL, but I loved that it came with the banana spring roll (like turon almost). We ordered the papaya salad, pad thai, and beef massaman curry, with a side of rice. Alot of food for two, but we had to try everything we could!! So much hype--had to finally see what all the fuss is about. It was a Sunday evening so we managed to walk in and snag a tiny table without a wait. The decor and ambiance is terrific. The bar is beautiful to look at. Really nice lighting and fun details & fixtures. We knew what we wanted right away and ordered almost immediately after we were seated. The food is great although not sure the pad Thai is worth $25 but nonetheless came out super fast. I love that this place is women owned and operated but not sure if any of those women were there tonight. Appreciate that it's 21+ only. A bit off putting that "audio surveillance is in use." Our server was attentive and so were the rest of the staff. So fast in fact, it felt like they were rushing us somewhat to finish up and get out of there as quickly as possible. Random moody people kept coming around to clear dishes every step of the way. It's not like this is fine dining where someone comes around to scrape crumbs off the table and give you a new crisp cloth napkin. It's more of a trying too hard/hipster vibe. While it's nice to have things cleared quickly, we didn't order a ton of food. We were there two hours before closing and decisive with our order. It really felt more like we were being rushed. This prompted me to look up the hours they're open. I was surprised they were only open from 5pm-9pm. I've worked in bars and restaurants in major metropolitan cities so I understand being exhausted and in a hurry to get home but there's no way anyone was working a double there today. My biggest pet peeve is when a table is being sprayed down next to me and I can taste the chemicals. No one wants to spend good money on food and drinks only to ingest the stuff they use to wipe down the tables. Is it really so difficult to spray into the cloth instead of like 4-5 pumps directly on the table when people are sitting two feet away? The takeaway is the food and drinks are good but I would probably go to Thaitanium for Thai on Mass Ave down the street for dinner next time and maybe just a drink at Bodhi. The menu is more limited than many traditional Thai restaurants I've been to. It was a tight squeeze in there for seating and we got the feeling the staff was just ready to go home. This was my first visit here and I can now understand why this place is always so busy, with a wait to get a table. We dined inside as there was a wait for outside tables. Our server was excellent. Tonight, I overheard our server explaining how the salads and curries are made fresh daily by the family that owns Bodhi. This was while I was eating my favorite glass noodles with shrimp. My husband had the chili basil and pork stir fry. We went ahead and ordered the papaya salad, mild, with the anchovy funk. I was a little nervous about the anchovy funk but I couldn't taste anything fishy. I'm a certified Pad Thai lover, and Bodhi is truly one of my favorites. In fact, I get a little disappointed when I order Pad Thai anywhere else after having theirs, it's that good. As a spice lover, I appreciate that they don't hold back when you ask for extra spicy. Their espresso martini is also a hit. Yes, I've had to wait to be seated before, but it's always worth it. I can't wait to go back to Indianapolis just to dine at Bodhi! After two years of trying to make it in, I finally got the chance and it was *so* worth the wait. This was hands down the best meal I've had in Indianapolis. The service, the ambiance, the drinks, everything was a 10/10/10 across the board (Beyonce voice) The spring rolls were the crispiest and most flavorful I've ever had. The Panang curry was perfectly spiced with just the right touch of sweetness. And the glass noodles with shrimp? I'm still dreaming about them. The flavor was truly unmatched. The chili-basil rice with pork was deeeelicious. A bit spicy, but nothing I couldn't handle. Next time I'd ask for that to be mild. Portions were generous and exceeded my expectations. Every dish could easily be shared, or if you're dining solo, you'll definitely leave with leftovers. Everyone mentions the wait, but honestly, it wasn't bad. I was quoted 35 minutes, and it ended up being exactly 35 minutes and absolutely worth every minute. If you're in the Indy area and looking for an incredible meal, make Bodhi your stop. With great anticipation, you see a lovely patio area as you walked up to this restaurant. As we got closer we see this roped off area instructing you what to do before entering the restaurant. You walk in to see the hostess wiping down menus. She then asks us for identification and tells us we have a 90 minute time limit on a Thursday night at 8:15 pm. My feeling of this place fizzled a bit before I had anything to eat. Once seated, we ordered right away. Under Savory Bites we had Pork Skewers $14. They were fine. Shrimp Cocktail $16 with an interesting spicy sauce. We also ordered a Papaya Salad for the table. That salad was the hit so far. For our entrees we ordered the Chili and Basil Steak $22, Braised Beef Massaman and Naan $24, and Ginger Chicken $19. Both the ginger chicken and braised beef were very good. The Chili and Basil Steak was unbelievably salty, almost to the point of being uneatable. After getting our entrees we were able to flag down our waitress to remind her about our drinks that we ordered right away when we sat down but haven't received . Later, when paying the bill our waitress held on to the bill machine as I tried to look it over. All in all this is a nice restaurant that we probably won't be going back to. read more

I went with three friends and we were done before the 90 minutes was up. Service was as friendly and great as always! I did set the reservation for the dining room, but it was so nice out when we went that we asked if we could be seated on the patio instead. That was no issue as there was a table available! That was fantastic! I tried the No-Sin-Aree mocktail. It was so so so good! Not too sweet which was perfect for me! We all split an order of the spring rolls and crab puffs. Both were amazing! For my main dish I got the shrimp glass noodles with the 3/4 pepper heat scale. It was definitely mouth tingling and caused a runny nose type of hot. So good though! I always appreciate how they describe the heat scale! And how almost everything can be adjusted for heat level. Not the curries though! Those have a set heat level. But love this place as always! All my friends have continued to tell me to try this place and I'm so glad that we finally did. After having to wait for about an hour and a half we got seated inside. The fact that you can't make reservations is definitely the worst part of this place, but I understand why... because they would be booked out for months if you could. I just had a basic pad Thai and one of their cocktails that they were running at the time. I've heard that their cocktails and some of their food items change regularly, so it's always fun to come back and see what they're doing next. The pad Thai was definitely the best pad Thai I've ever had in my life, even though that sounds a little bit dramatic. The portion was huge also so I ended up taking it home and having it for two more meals after dinner that night. The service was great and we were in and out in a reasonable amount of time! The host was really helpful in getting us a table and trying to work in such a large party size. I do think that for the vibes of this place that sitting inside is better, but I'd love to go back and try sitting outside! read more

We were in Indy for a week for work and asked a few locals for recommendations. They all mentioned Bodhi! We had to give a try. Luckily, we came within 10 minutes of opening on a Monday night and we were seated pretty quickly. Shortly after, there was a line of people waiting to be seated. FYI they don't take reservations. We tried a variety of dishes from soups, to Curries, to Salads, and they were all good. Everything tasted homemade and in-house. We opted for a mild spice level which is perfect. It does get pretty spicy if you decide to go with Medium or spicier. Loved the ambience and great atmosphere. Service was attentive. If you cannot get there to wait before opening, put your name in and go walk Mass Ave / grab a drink somewhere while you wait. Our group of 7 got there well before they opened to wait in line and secure a table - which is the way to go. Of note, you are given a 90 min time limit once seated, so be prepared to turn your table respectfully. With 7 of us, we all shared a number of dishes - from apps to main courses to all of the desserts - and I am so glad I got to try them all. I can recommend the drunken noodles and curry with my whole chest. SO GOOD. Every offering we had was on point, prices were reasonable for the quality of food and drinks delivered. I cannot think of a single critique - which is rare these days! FINALLY tried Bohdi. Luckily we got a reservation - this is a new thing for Bohdi! They now take reservations and it is $25 person as a deposit and it goes towards your food. The food was great but I was really expecting to be blown away with how much hype I have heard around Bohdi. One thing that I will say about the new reservation that we found to be an issue was we had 4 people so we paid $100 deposit but didn't spend it all so once we were done and realized that, we ended up buying 2 desserts. I did not love the dessert options so in reality we should have gotten another appetizer at the start but didn't think that far ahead. We arrived about 30 minutes before BODHI opened and there was already a line which we expected! Definitely recommend getting there early if you want to avoid a long wait. Once the doors opened, we were seated fairly quickly. The atmosphere inside is cozy and cute, with charming details throughout. They also have a lovely outdoor seating area that I'd love to try next time! Service was a little slow, but our server was training, so it was understandable. As always, the food was incredible! I ordered the drunken noodles with medium heat. I've tried the mild before, but it didn't have enough kick, though I will say the medium was a bit too spicy for me. This was our second attempt at Bodhi, and it was a success this time! Bodhi is a small, elevated Thai restaurant that is only open for 4-5 hours in the evening and they take no reservations and they take no call ahead seating. So when you get there and join the line right when they open at 5pm and get seated right away, you feel like you are winning at life! And then the food shows up at your table and you discover that you did. You won at life! We were excited to meet our Indianapolis family here for dinner. They don't take reservations and the place relatively small. We recommend showing up before they open and either starting or get into the already building line. The food is worth waiting in line in order to guarantee a table. There were six of us. We were seated at a table right in front of the bar. It was comfortable, even though some of our backs were to a walkway for both staff and customers. I never felt like I was in the way and I don't remember getting bumped in the back as people passed. The server was kind and helpful. We never felt rushed. Everyone enjoyed their meals, but I can only speak to my meal and Mark's. I had the Braised Beef Massaman & Naan, or Massaman Neua Toon - silk road spices * carrot * fingerling potato * naan bread. The meal was extraordinary in every way. The spice level was perfect and the flavors were complex and well developed. The naan was the perfect dipping companion to ensure no drop of deliciousness was left behind. Mark had Chicken Pad Thai or Pad Thai Gai - rice noodle * onions * tamarind sauce * sweet radish egg * peanut * bean sprout * red cabbage. Mark always orders Pad Thai when it's on the menu. After months of seeing Bodhi mentioned across every foodie feed and earning praise from even USA Today (not necessarily a reliably known expert), we decided to see if the fuss was worth it. We did leave with full stomachs, and one burning question, "Were we missing something?" The decor was cool-- and a nice bar that is available for seating as well. The tables are set up close together. There is a patio area available for seating, and it's fairly large and in nice weather it is a good spot. The Pineapple Green Mango Mezcal cocktail was delicious but at $16 it was overpriced and a surprisingly tiny pour. They have a selection of beers on tap, and I enjoyed the Hefeweizen with dinner. Now, the food. We had the grilled pork skewers, chicken wings, cashew chicken, and the massaman braised beef curry & naan. Only the curry could justify a shout out. The marinated grilled pork skewers @ $14 consisted of four skewers of, sorry to report, tasteless flattened meat, accompanied by a cucumber onion chutney and a peanut dipping sauce. The peanut sauce almost made up for the jaw-tiring pork. But the tough meat was pretty inexcusable, and the marinade was MIA and didn't add anything. The chicken wings (6 pieces @ $15) were nicely prepared and crisp, but nothing about them stands out. The sweet chili sauce accompanying the wings tasted like Mae Ploy bottled sauce that is available everywhere (nothing wrong with that but I expected more). The cashew chicken @ $19 is a large serving and while I hoped it would be the best representation of this classic dish, the chicken was bland and overcooked white meat. It was just no better than what you would find in less trendy restaurants. The single standout was the Massaman Curry and Naan. The curry was delicious. I suggest adding the jasmine rice to your curry order because the two tiny pieces of naan that come with the curry isn't enough. Still, this one bright spot of the Massaman doesn't rescue an otherwise underwhelming meal. The service was confounding. They make a point of politely explaining that you must finish within 90 minutes (3 turns per night I assume) so I expected promptness in delivery. While the appetizers came to the table quickly, we did not understand why the entrées took so long and we had arrived for the first sitting, and were among the first few seated. Note: we arrived at 4:30 (and sat on a bench outside) so that we could get a table when they opened at 5 pm. Note: you will not be seated if your full party is not present. The servers were all extremely friendly and excellent.
