This may be the place. The Exchange is a gorgeous whiskey-forward bar in the heart of Mass Ave. With a cozy and beautiful garden-level space. There is an Elevator (so it is accessible to all) and a ramp from outside. You can also rent out the space during the week. The rough stone exterior walls are adorned by a curved glass window letting in light on one side from the busy streets of Mass Ave. The floors are piled high with deep red and vibrant oriental rugs, ascending that classic speakeasy vibe. There are plenty of different seating options like leather sofas, cushiony chairs, and bar stools; however, the spot to nab would be the two private tables tucked away under the curved glass window. The end of the space has a large mirror and is perfect for selfies. They have a cocktail menu featuring a variety of spirits, whiskey, gin, vodka, etc., and a few good local bourbons like Cardinal Street Distillery, 18th Street Rye, Hard Truth Hills, etc. I'm so impressed by the Bar staff, they were busy but still making perfect cocktails with a smile, I'm astonished at their skill and composure. Where do I begin? This might just be my new favorite place to grab drinks! What drew me in was their wide selection of whiskey flights. My boyfriend was coming to town and he's a huge whiskey guy so I knew I had to bring him to check this spot out. We stopped by for the first time ~4:30pm last Saturday and were extremely happy/impressed with our experience. This bar is 2 floors. We went down to the basement and loved the dim, intimate lighting. It made for a great conversational space. The cocktail menu has a lovely, unique selection and there are whiskey options galore for all you whiskey lovers out there. Our bartender, Chris, was the man!!! He was very knowledgeable on all the different types of whiskeys they offered and gave us perfect drink recommendations based on our palettes. I had the Epic Luau and the All Hell Broke Juice. My boyfriend chose the whiskey flight (bartender's choice) and the Executive Old Fashioned. Our drinks were perfect! My boyfriend really enjoyed the experience of a whiskey flight and the bartender's choice is a fun option as you never know what you're going to get and you get to try something new! Chris made sure to ask my boyfriend a couple questions before crafting his flight (he requested 1 japanese whiskey, 1 rye whiskey, and 1 wild card aka any type of whiskey that Chris absolutely loves). It was a real treat having a one-of-a-kind, personalized experience and having a friendly, skilled bartender makes it 10000x better. Despite doing all of the people-ing for the entire cocktail bar, he spent quite a bit of time chatting with us, making us feel valued, and providing really fantastic cocktail recommendations and a history of the place. This is probably some of the best and most personalized service I've had a cocktail bar this year. -Our cocktails were delicious too, so kudos to the second employee who was crafting all the drinks so Jace could manage tables. We never waited long for a drink. -I'm not a huge whiskey person, but I *do* love good cocktails. Our server said they could add a bit extra sweetness to various cocktails when I was unsure about the original flavor, and pretty much everything that was brought to our table was delicious in the best of ways. A bartender being able to modify things to best work for their patrons is A+! -They bring a full whiskey bottle of water to your table to "pour your own" as needed. The whiskey bottle is a great touch, and it makes it easy to keep yourself hydrated and safe while enjoying their cocktails without bothering a server. CONS: -Even at open on a Thursday, they were surprisingly busy (compared to the cocktail bars around Mass Ave.) Expect to encounter more people here, it seems, than nearby options. Partnered with natural light streaming through the windows, it made the vibe here feel "friendly" instead of "sultry" which is the ambiaence it seems a lot of nearby options are going for. -I only found a single unisex bathroom for the entire establishment. A quick note about the bar's historical aspect. It is located in the Hammond Block building, which was built in 1874. It is one of the oldest original buildings still standing in the Indy. This is a decent low key/chill bar located on the CBD end of Mass Ave, across from the Eagle. There is a lot of metered parking available within a reasonable walking distance from this joint. There are also a few commercial parking lots nearby, if that is your thing. The bar is two levels with full bars and lounge seating available. As I mentioned, it is a very chill spot with a lot of personality. It is a casual place that has a high end vibe. They have a decent signature cocktail menu with some seasonal cocktails on. They claim to also have the 450 of the best whiskeys you can find. I was not that thirsty, so I will take their word on it. It is a cozy space with a very friendly staff. The drinks are not just savory, but they make them a presentation, especially their Old Fashioned. There is also light food options available including deviled eggs and bacon with onion jam. This is a neat little duck-off located just outside on Indy's CBD. My group really enjoyed hanging out here. They have some savory cocktails and great staff. Went for happy hour which they have from 4-7 Mondays and Fridays. They had a sign outside saying $7 happy hour drinks going on right now. Asked waiter about which drinks were happy hour special and only ordered those drinks. When check came back we were charged full price for every drink. The whiskey selection was wonderful and the cocktail menu was imaginative, but what really sold me was staff. Everyone from the hostess to the runners/bussers was friendly and warm. The bartender, Titan, was welcoming and knowledgeable. We chatted at length about the whiskey varieties available at the bar and their favorites: straight, on the rocks, or in cocktails. I was only able to stay for one drink because my phone was dying and I needed to call a car, but like Fat Dan's I was wondering if and when I could get back before I left the city. I arrived right as it was opening so it was not crowded and the service was fantastic. My drink was perfect and strong. While you may pay $11-16 per drink, you will not need more than 2 if you are planning on driving! I saw many people ordering smoke infused beverages and it made the room smell amazing. I love a good Whiskey Bar! This place is a new addition to Mass Ave. It has everything you would want in a Whiskey Bar. It has very high end whiskey, craft cocktails and a cool, chill vibe. I almost hesitate to write a review because I don't want more people to go! HA! The servers and bartenders are very good at their craft and if you aren't quite sure what you want, they are always very happy to make recommendations. I have been a few times and I've gotten so comfortable I tell them just make me something and trust that they will come back with something amazing. The music is good, nice chill out music. The seating is good, however, if you try to go on Thursday - Saturday it gets packed, so if you decide to go on those days I recommend going early. 7pm on, you may not find a seat. Totally a place to visit ESPECIALLY if you are into Whiskey although they do have other drinks too if you aren't a fan of Whiskey so don't let that stop you from visiting! read more

Found this place on a whim during a day date and it did not disappoint! It's definitely more geared toward whisky drinkers; so if this is you.......you should definitely stop in. Mi Amor had a bourbon based drink which had some hints if vanilla and cherry in it!!! It was AMAZING!!!! He also tried a coffee bourbon drink which he says was ok, but not as good as the first drink. My first drink was a vodka based drink and it was super refreshing! By far one of the best vodka based drinks I've had in a long time! I also tried a tequila drink which was more on the Smokey side. It was ok, not as good as the vodka drink. The tequila started off sweet but then had a Smokey hard after taste which I did not care for. We also tried the devil eggs of the day which were truffle. They tasted the way they were described, like truffle eggs. They were ok, I wouldn't order them again but I will always ask about the devil egg flavor of the day! There's also a dip of the day too! They don't have an extensive food menu as they are more of a drink bar, but the little bit of food options they have are the perfect pairing for this spot. They had a server who seemed a bit stressed and by himeself when he needed some help. I ended up ordering at the bar which the bartender said oh your waiter will do this. I have been to Exchange twice since they opened- once on opening night and another weekday night since then. I have tried 3 cocktails overall, and they have all been alright. The presentation of them is amazing, I am just always slightly underwhelmed at the taste. They are a little heavy on the alcohol taste, although maybe I am just uncultured when it comes to good cocktails haha. The people I was with got some whiskey and bourbon flights that they seemed to enjoy. The first time we visited we got food menus once we sat down (just some small snack foods- cheese spreads, charcuterie boards, deviled eggs, etc.), but the second time we did not and had to ask what they offered. We ended up getting a cheese spread that was fantastic. Overall this place has a very cool vibe. Amazing decor, fitting wallpaper, and a great view of mass ave either from above or below. I enjoy visiting just for the ambience and location. Sitting downstairs was my favorite. They do a good job with covid precautions that I have seen, with everyone wearing masks. It seems a bit crowded inside but it looks like they do have the tables 6 feet apart. The low ceilings I believe give the impression that it is closed than that. I will be back because with such a good cocktail list, I know there is one there for me- I just need to find it! And to try some more of their small plates. read more

We stopped in on a Saturday around 6:30 pm and there was plenty of seating. All of the cocktails we had were perfect, (more tangy and tart than sweet which is my preference) and I'd for sure return. I'd like to go back when the sun has gone down to experience more of the dark whiskey bar vibes I feel the place is going for.
