I'm currently staying at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown, which holds in its lobby the Rye Bar. I came this evening post a training and was so impressed with the selection and prices. While the menu looked great, I was able to order a custom old-fashioned with Buffalo Trace KY bourbon, black walnut bitters, demerara syrup, and Luxardo cherries, and it was perfect. The bartender was not only skilled but also fun to chat with, which made the experience even better. The aesthetic here is modern, chic, and clean, and the service matches the vibe - professional, welcoming, and attentive. This is definitely a spot I'll keep coming back to during my stay. Stopped in the Rye Bar for a night cap and although the bar was stacked, Dennis the bartender was one funny and knowledgeable dude. He spoke my level Japanese which is almost zero but was a fun character and excellent bar Our group consisted of individuals with a taste of good bourbon and the Rye Bar's inventory included some tasty and exceptional examples. The concern now is the Coach will on the trail to find the ones we tried and make them part of his impressive collection. The bar is located on the lobby level of the Marriott Downtown Indianapolis and was very busy but the bartenders did a fantastic job at filling the orders. The bar is nice with lots of extra seeing outside of it. We had an old fashioned which was strong. We also had the peanut butter pretzel pie which was to die for! Large slices with creamy peanut butter cream, chocolate drizzle, and the crust was a pretzel blend that tasted almost like toffee. Very good!! The piece was so big my husband and I split! read more

I love this place, and I think if you don't know that it's here you would miss it. It's located in the JW Marriott downtown across from the convention center. It's dark modern speak easy rolled into one. I visited the bar to attend a bourbon class, and I learned a lot! A break down of the "why" with what goes into an old fashioned, then some samples. We also learned the proper way to shake a mixed drink in one of the double cupped shakers, and how to get them to release from each other. After that station we visited the fruit station and learned proper fruit cutting techniques, and I didn't loose a finger which is the most important. I loved that it was just us in the bar enjoying the class and learning. I decided to hang out after and enjoy an old fashioned, I can make them. But it's just better when someone does it for you. THIS IS the NEW HOT SPOT!! Put it on your radar if you love creative cocktails and a fantastic staff. If you haven't tried it yet you are really missing out. Bartenders Jacob and Shelby are mix masters and have developed some of the best drinks I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. Cute, spunky Harley adds a wonderful flair to the trio. All three are charismatic and top notch! Located in the newly reorganized space at the Marriott you will not be disappointed with the flair and ambiance. Just across from the convention center and next to the government buildings, has so much to offer. I loved both the bar seating and the lounge area. Personally I greatly preferred this location to some of the other, too-busy poorly serviced craft cocktail locations that people flock to in Indy. The vibe here was laid back and sophisticated. A step up from the others! If you are feeling a little Mad Men-ish may I suggest Don Draper's favorite drink, the Old Fashion. I loved the Man Over Board with its twist on an old classic. For a really big treat order the Cherry Blossom--let it's bloom quench your thirst desire as it goes down smooth and melts your insides. It was incredible. read more

We came here as part of a Yelp event. We tried the Rye Bar's take on an Old Fashioned. I have to say I was excited when I heard this because it is one of my favorite drinks. It is a drink where the details matter so I was a little disappointed when they were served in plastic cups with crushed ice. I do, however, completely understand that there were a lot of us and this was easier to serve. The flavor was very good. I will just have to come back and try it again! We also tried the pretzel peanut pie. This was absolutely delicious. I had wished I wasn't so full when we got here because I wanted to eat more of the pie! read more

Tried out this little place in the downtown Indy Marriott. It's their second night open. It was previously the Circle City Bar and Grill. It's a great little spot. The group I was with said it was the best Manhattan they have had in Indianapolis. They also make a great prickly pear margarita. They don't have a lot of gluten free options so I had the black truffle potato chips. If they added gluten free bread or crackers they could make nearly their whole menu gluten free. We tried the fig and rose drink which was cool to watch make. It has the best aroma. It is very earthy and citrusy. Our bartender was Brandaun, he was great! The manager Nick also came by, he was very pleasant and listened to our feedback. read more

You're asking where is the Rye Bar? Never heard of it? It is located in the newly redesigned Indianapolis Marriott Downtown off Maryland. As you enter the lobby it sits almost directly across from the lobby entrance. The hotel is lovely regardless of where you visit. If time permits browse the gorgeous hotel lobby, lounges, bar and restaurants. The Rye Bar is beautiful and a very comfortable place to hang out with a cocktail or glass of wine. They pride themselves in being fluent in Whiskey so if your a whiskey drinker check them out for sure. I was here as part of a Yelp event where we devoured scrumptious cake donuts. I personally didn't order a cocktail but the atmosphere is laid back and a nice spot to unwind. I could see popping in here for drinks before dinner or after work with a few friends. There are several cozy chairs in the lounge area to snuggle into for good conversations. I'm glad the Rye Bar was part of our Yelp event as I had no idea this gorgeous bar was even here. After a heavy day at work, I stopped off at Rye Bar after dinner to unwind with a book and a beverage. I consulted with the bartender who recommended the Hemingway's Delight. They were very knowledgeable and told me about it's the original version (prior to Prohibition) of what we think of as a daiquiri. It was mighty tasty. Be ready to be charged more than the menu pricing. We ordered, and enjoyed 2 bourbons. When I got the check, we were charged $5 more for 1 and $3 more for the other. The explanation I got from the bartender was that they charge more when bourbon is ordered neat because they give a bigger pour. I'm not a bourbon regular, but this doesn't seem right to me. I paid my bill with a 20% tip, but I won't be back to this establishment. read more

I was just a little underwhelmed with Rye. The drinks were way expensive- especially for a city like Indianapolis, the ambiance was what to be expected of a hotel bar, and the service was blah. I guess Rye will do in a pinch if you're staying at the hotel, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to frequent this spot. read more

The Rye Bar. This cozy lil lounge is on the 1st floor of the Marriot near the front desk. It is such an adulty, comfy setting to indulge in a cocktail or two or three. It's dark with lots of subtle lighting that keeps it warm and intimate. We were served peanut butter pretzel pie. It was awesome!!! Check the pics. I was excited about my evening at the Rye bar in the Marriott downtown. I thought the destination for the evening was in the big blue Marriott, but it was in the smaller one just east of the new one on Maryland street. Jacob is the bar manager and he really knows how to run a high quality bar. The drinks here are well thought out and the experienced bartenders are friendly and very knowledgeable about there trade. On this particular evening I was attending a Yelp mixology class that was very informative. I had no idea about the amount of flavor you can get from an orange peel. Thirty is the number of stirs for a mixed drink. And, most favorite thing learned... Luxardo maraschino cherries make a Manhattan cocktail great! read more

You can't go wrong with a visit to this bar inside the Downtown Indianapolis Marriot. We ordered the smoked chicken wings and warm pretzel bites, which were both delicious. The Rye bar Signature Old Fashion and Smoked Sazrac were both quite tasty and very well presented. The seasonal blood orange margarita was delicious and they also featured a specialty cocktail, Coconut Cookie, which was also beautifully presented and very tasty. Sure the Rye Bar has drinks, extra interesting drinks, but the two big reasons to stop by here: super cool atmosphere and warm homemade donut holes (yes, at a bar). There are great seating options, great lighting, and the space just flows in/out of the lobby nicely so you don't feel like you are entering a bar (more like an extension of lobby). The management is great, and the whole lobby and both restaurants have just all been beautifully renovated. Located conveniently just north of the convention center, with easy parking on street or use valet. Cold outside? Use the many glass-enclosed bridges to get to this hotel from either the parking garage or the conv. center. Don't let the fact that this is a hotel bar keep you from experiencing this upscale, special place. read more
