I love this place, and I think if you don't know that it's here you would miss it. It's located in the JW Marriott downtown across from the convention center. It's dark modern speak easy rolled into one. I visited the bar to attend a bourbon class, and I learned a lot! A break down of the "why" with what goes into an old fashioned, then some samples. We also learned the proper way to shake a mixed drink in one of the double cupped shakers, and how to get them to release from each other. After that station we visited the fruit station and learned proper fruit cutting techniques, and I didn't loose a finger which is the most important. I loved that it was just us in the bar enjoying the class and learning. I decided to hang out after and enjoy an old fashioned, I can make them. But it's just better when someone does it for you. Very tasty and made to my liking. We even got awesome swag bags and a special on the rye bar woodford reserve barrel. Awesome class and place!

THIS IS the NEW HOT SPOT!! Put it on your radar if you love creative cocktails and a fantastic staff. If you haven't tried it yet you are really missing out. Bartenders Jacob and Shelby are mix masters and have developed some of the best drinks I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. Cute, spunky Harley adds a wonderful flair to the trio. All three are charismatic and top notch! Located in the newly reorganized space at the Marriott you will not be disappointed with the flair and ambiance. Just across from the convention center and next to the government buildings, has so much to offer. I loved both the bar seating and the lounge area. Personally I greatly preferred this location to some of the other, too-busy poorly serviced craft cocktail locations that people flock to in Indy. The vibe here was laid back and sophisticated. A step up from the others! If you are feeling a little Mad Men-ish may I suggest Don Draper's favorite drink, the Old Fashion. I loved the Man Over Board with its twist on an old classic. For a really big treat order the Cherry Blossom--let it's bloom quench your thirst desire as it goes down smooth and melts your insides. It was incredible.

Tried out this little place in the downtown Indy Marriott. It's their second night open. It was previously the Circle City Bar and Grill. It's a great little spot. The group I was with said it was the best Manhattan they have had in Indianapolis. They also make a great prickly pear margarita. They don't have a lot of gluten free options so I had the black truffle potato chips. If they added gluten free bread or crackers they could make nearly their whole menu gluten free. We tried the fig and rose drink which was cool to watch make. It has the best aroma. It is very earthy and citrusy. Our bartender was Brandaun, he was great! The manager Nick also came by, he was very pleasant and listened to our feedback.

We came here as part of a Yelp event. We tried the Rye Bar's take on an Old Fashioned. I have to say I was excited when I heard this because it is one of my favorite drinks. It is a drink where the details matter so I was a little disappointed when they were served in plastic cups with crushed ice. I do, however, completely understand that there were a lot of us and this was easier to serve. The flavor was very good. I will just have to come back and try it again! We also tried the pretzel peanut pie. This was absolutely delicious. I had wished I wasn't so full when we got here because I wanted to eat more of the pie!

The Rye whiskey selection is extensive. Did not eat but a great hotel bar in the downtown (not JW) Marriott.

First of all Jacob Harley n Shelby are the bomb dot com. Great hospitality and vey personable. Our yelp event was great. We learned stirring shaking how to use the peeler and the thingy that makes the thin twists. If you happen to go get the new old fashioned or the cherry blossom (Jacob's signature). I'll def be back!!!

Hemingway's Delight: rum, lime juice, and simple syrup... the original daiquiri

After a heavy day at work, I stopped off at Rye Bar after dinner to unwind with a book and a beverage. I consulted with the bartender who recommended the Hemingway's Delight. They were very knowledgeable and told me about it's the original version (prior to Prohibition) of what we think of as a daiquiri. It was mighty tasty. This is a bar to go to if you want to drink a mixture of art and history. (That means it's also a bit pricey.)

I was just a little underwhelmed with Rye. The drinks were way expensive- especially for a city like Indianapolis, the ambiance was what to be expected of a hotel bar, and the service was blah. I guess Rye will do in a pinch if you're staying at the hotel, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to frequent this spot.

They had the door open, which was letting in the fresh almost-spring air.) Drinks are pretty much all they have at Snug, to be honest. Don't visit thinking you're going to find a meal, because they don't have a lot of food beyond locally made hand pies and empanadas, a grazing board, and something called Snug Nuts. (Which brings to mind certain ... images.) I didn't get any food, just a Road & Coke, which is a whiskey with a Coke and lime, similar to a Cuba libre, although a Cuba uses rum. It was delicious, but a little light on the booze. It was only $5 and change, though, so it's kind of like what do you expect, really. It was a nice drink to sip slowly while I sat in the small, cozy bar. Speaking of bar aesthetics: Snug lives up to its name. It's tiny and dark but inviting. It feels like stepping into a hug. A hug that can also provide you with copious amounts of Irish whiskey, which sounds like the best kind of hug, to me.

The Whisk has been on our road trip list for awhile, and we finally went with some friends. Greencastle has never been high on my priority list of places to visit, but I'd heard rumors about "The Whisk" being a great place to visit for whisky lovers like myself. And the rumors were true! Walking up to The Whisk...well, that doesn't happen. You have to walk down some stairs that are nondescript, giving the entrance a very old fashioned speakeasy vibe. I immediately fell in love. It feels like a secret club that I'm a part of! The decor is big city speakeasy vibe and lets you know immediately that regardless of shoe you are, you're welcome at the Whisk (see some of the pictures of the decor). We went on a Friday because they have a dinner menu only on Fridays and it changes every week. Tosh and her husband, Joel, are the co-owners and curators of all the food and cocktails. Although there are always small plates on the menu, the full menu complete with dessert was exactly what we wanted. The presentation and flavors of the dinner and drinks felt like being in Chicago or New York, not Greencastle! It was a delightful anachronistic experience. The blackened catfish and The Ghost whisky cocktail were some of the best things I've ingested in a long time. I can't wait to go back!

They were very accommodating to such a large group, many of whom are not really cigar smokers. At the back of the space is a large bar with an equally large humidor behind it. The humidor attendant was helpful and patient with the members of our party that didn't really know what they wanted. We were seated at a long table near the bar, though we took up a couple of smaller tables as well. They do a phenomenal job of air quality management, even though there were a ton of people smoking, the air seemed quite clean, enough so that a non-smoker would probably be comfortable hanging out with a friend who was smoking without being uncomfortable. Though they only have a small selection of beer, they did have some fairly good options. I had a Goose Island Cherries Jubilee Bourbon County Stout (quite nice), and a Camacho cigar. I didn't have any food on this visit, but the menu did look promising, even if a bit over priced. Overall this is a very nice spot for a cigar and a drink, I will likely be back when in Indy again!

Then we headed to the restaurant for lunch. We sat at the bar, of course. Allison, the bartender and our server, did an outstanding job. She was friendly, attentive, made suggestions and prepared a fabulous Whiskey Sour. My drink was made either Luxardo cherries. This as the best Whiskey Sour that I've ever had. The lunch menu is slightly different than the dinner menu. I would describe the menu as very upscale bar food. There is a drink menu that was featuring daily specials for the holidays. My husband had their hand breaded tenderloin. The tenderloin was double stacked with perfectly breaded and seasoned tenderloin. He said it the best tenderloin he has had in Hamilton County and among the best in the state. The fries were crispy and good. I had the in-house prepared Broccoli Cheddar soup. There was no doubt that the soup was fresh made. The soup was creamy with gooey cheese. The broccoli was sour fresh. The bowl was huge. I also ordered a small wedge salad, which turned out to be huge. The salad was covered generously with bacon, blue cheese and grape tomatoes. We explored the event center, which was spacious. The outdoor patio was inviting, even on a freezing day. There is plenty of parking in their dedicated lot. Accessible spaces are available near the entrance. West Fork puts Westfield on the map. All of my loved ones were there to celebrate my birthday, and paired with such amazing food it made it a magical night. It was a Tuesday night and was fairly busy, but we passed any downtime chatting with each other and sipping on cocktails. The owner, Nara, is SO kind, sweet, gracious, I could go on and on. You can tell she really loves her job and running a business. The staff were so attentive for such a large party and made sure we always had fresh cocktails, water refills, and empty plates were removed promptly. We had vegetarians, peanut allergies, and picky eaters, but they accommodated everyone. I think my husband and I ended up splitting 5 sushi rolls total (still dreaming of them) and the table pretty much split multiple appetizers across the board. Everyone loved their cocktails, appetizers, and entrees. When I thanked Nara for such an amazing dinner and let her know it was my first time dining there and that it was my birthday she brought out a round of lychee sake shots for the table and started playing a happy birthday song throughout the restaurant. Literally almost cried because it was so sweet and thoughtful. The sake was crazy delicious and a hit for the whole table. The only *minor* downside was that each cocktail was made individually by what seemed to be just one bartender, so it took some time for drinks to come out. Again, otherwise a perfect meal, but keep that in mind and be patient for drinks to come out! My husband and I's favorite sushi haunt has always been Mori Sushi before now, but now I cannot wait to come back to Hasuno for more amazing appetizers and sushi rolls!!! They have a small parking lot that fills up fast, but there is always lots of street parking in fountain square. Let's start with price- yes it's a little pricey. But I understand they are making up for the cost of the downtown location. Definitely a place to go on special occasions if your budget is not set up to splurge here. Would love to see a happy hour menu here so more people can try the food. Next is the quality of the food, which IMO, justifies the price. "Less is more" is so important when it comes to sushi rice. I love being able to get sushi and not feel so full because the minimally necessary amount of rice was used and doesn't leave you full after one roll. All of the special rolls we liked in the following order. 1) Bonfire 2) Orange Blossom 3) Cherry Blossom 4) Trish 5) Emperor 6)Thursday The miso soup was perfect and priced at $3. The drinks and gyoza were good too, but not too special. I would definitely save my appetizer/beverage $ for the rolls. We ordered smoked salmon, hamachi, and scallop sashimi. Scallop was our favorite for the sashimi, but all were amazing. The star (and priciest) of our dinner we did not capture, but it was the Maduro Nigiri. The quality was very good and fatty, I thought it tasted like Hara-naka. Service was great. No wait. 10 out of 10 recommend.
