Rotating menu of amazing dishes that keeps us coming back. I was actually shocked I hadn't done a review before on this place. No matter the occasion it's a nice place to grab a meal with family and friends. The waitstaff is thorough and attentive without smothering you. Everything is made fresh and you can tell. This time around we were celebrating a birthday and the waiter made sure to bring out a candle for them to blow out which was a thoughtful touch. We got the prime rib sandwich, spaghetti and meatballs and burger. Everything was delicious!!! Dessert was also amazing - honeybee (flourless tort cake) and chocolate brûlée (not pictured - ate too fast lol)

We were really looking forward to dining here tonight, but what a disappointing experience! From the moment we walked in, we felt completely unwelcome. The hostess was cold, didn't even crack a smile, and told us there would be a 20-minute wait. Seeing so many empty tables, we politely asked why. Her response? "We don't seating determine based on empty tables." Wow. What a way to welcome your guests! I can't say for sure whether it was discrimination or simply terrible hospitality, but we definitely felt like we weren't wanted there. With such high ratings, I expected much better. We decided to walk out rather than spend our money somewhere we clearly didn't feel welcome. Great reviews mean nothing if you don't know how to treat people.

I brought a friend to Bluebeard and she was very impressed! I got the seasonal cocktail and she got a mocktail. Both drinks were delicious and a perfect way to start the meal. We ordered the Caesar broccolini and the Burrata for our appetizers. The portions were plenty for 2 to 3 people. Both appetizers were good. We ordered the lamb Ragu and the half chicken for our meals. Neither one of us typically orders a pasta dish, but the server recommended it and it did not disappoint! The half chicken was incredible. My friend even said "this is the best chicken I've ever had in my life". I would order both of these dishes again! We were too full for dessert, but I'll be sure to leave room when I come back next time!

"He's given him a yellow card. I can't speak!" My main man Mick Morgan said it best, as I'm sure you remember, in response to the infamous faulty call of the 1988 Regal Trophy Match. The decision in question was Andy Hay electing to only show yellow after witnessing a violent punch thrown. He should've been sent off! Bluebeard was let off by the masses, which is diabolical. Lulled to sleep by outdoor seating options, sporadically tattooed wait staff, and cutesy menu typeface. In all of your bluster, did any of you see the player get sucker-punched? It was me! Five finger death punched by petite portions at pumped up prices. As I rolled on the ground in agony, you looked at yourself. Sure, your outfit was cute and your date was hot and you did a birthday thing and so on and so forth. But let's not forget the atrocity of what sat on our plates! Bluebeard did you wrong and more importantly, did your boy CJ wrong. To close with a separate thought, what are all you ladies dressing up for on a Friday night? This was my one "fellas got a birthday dinner" of the year. Do y'all do this weekly? Godspeed if so, Godspeed.

FLAVORFUL RESTAURANT IN A HIP PART OF INDY ======================================== My daughter-in-law recommended Bluebeard for dinner on Monday, June 22, 2026. I would have to say this restaurant is my favorite in Indy right now after one meal. Most of the things we shared were amazing and for a complete description please refer to my photo of the menu. We ordered the following: Burrata with Amelia's bread as an appetizer which was delicious. Gem Salad - This was amazing and I could eat it every day of the week. Stacci house made pasta - This was a big hit and I would order this every time. Hanger Steak - My husband, aka the picky eater, loved it. I didn't try it, but everyone seemed to like it. Chicken with a few dumplings - We all loved this. Three desserts to share: a cheesecake with fruit on top, one a bread pudding and a chocolate crisp. I ordered a delicious Monsoon Season cocktail with song cai vietnamese gin, cocchi americano, st. george thai basil eau de vie, elderflower, lemon and basil oil. My son and I also ordered glasses of Port after dinner. The service was great and I loved that they were playing really good rock music like Soundgarden and others. There are lots of antique typewriters above the bar and a cool print of Kurt Vonnegut by the bathrooms. I am looking forward to going again the next time my husband and I are in Indy visiting my son and daughter-in-law unless they move out of state.

True stories. Gin, cucumber, watermelon

We had a girls' dinner prior to the Ed Sheeran concert. Making reservations was easy and we were seated at a table in the bar area. It was a little loud but we were still able to chat. We ordered cocktails-- my go-to is always a creative gin cocktail and the the True Stories did not disappoint (I don't remember what my friends ordered, but they were equally happy). To start we shared the pickles and tzaziki (so good!) and a small grinder salad. We all ended up with a pasta variation -- mine was the smoked beet ravioli and it was amazing! We would have gotten dessert but we were pressed for time. Food was 5/5, unfortunately service was a 2/5. Our server failed to check in with us regularly (we had to order additional drinks by snagging another server) and was almost nowhere to be found to present the check. Her demeanor was cold, at best and it didn't seem like she really enjoyed her job.

I came here for private party event and the food was incredible. The Caesar salad, I still dream about the combination of ingredients was perfection. And those raviolis literally the best I've ever had. This place is easily one of the top meals I've had in a long time. Service is impeccable.

Bluebeard was my pick for my birthday dinner and for good reason. The restaurant has a laid back and quirky vibe and is literary themed. Themed around Indy native Kurt Vonnegut, you'll see old typewriters, books, and names of menu items paying tribute to the famous author. The menu feels high class but the atmosphere and wait staff are friendly and welcoming. You could dress up for a special occasion or come in casual every day wear and either fit in just fine. Their ever changing menu featuring local produce and meats is always unique, inventive, and most importantly, delicious. Their cocktail list is one of the best and I was pleasantly surprised to find that they had an extensive mocktail list as well. Their sodas and syrups are all house-made which means every drink is full of fresh flavors. I had a lemon pasta dish an my husband ordered the hanger steak. Both were cooked perfectly and composed of flavors and textures that complimented each other perfectly. There's nothing that wouldn't be good on their menu because you can tell the chefs are exceptional as well as the ingredients they choose. I really can't say enough good things about this place, it remains one of my favorite places to enjoy a meal and no matter what I choose, I'm never disappointed.

Incredible experience all around- we sat outside on the patio on a Saturday afternoon and the vibes were amazing. Our server was friendly and helpful. We got a bunch of different bites for the table and everything was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend the himachi and the grinder salad :) Will definitely be back next time we're in Indy.

Wonderful service, great patio seating for the spring and yummy fries! This is a cozy restaurant in fountain square. I imagine a longer wait if you go during busy lunch and dinner times. However we arrived at 11am on a Wednesday and were seated right away. I ordered the hot chicken sando and fries. I think they double fry because the fries have the best crispy crunchy texture! I also wanted to try their general tso fried cauliflower but was stuffed!

**Bluebeard... wtf** Bluebeard has been on my Indianapolis restaurant list since I moved here from Chicago in 2021. I've found some really great restaurants here over the years, so I was especially excited to finally make it to Bluebeard. Each year during Devour, my husband and I pick a restaurant for each other as a surprise, and this year I chose Bluebeard. We had a 6:15 reservation and arrived about 10 minutes late due to traffic. I apologized, and we were promptly seated. Unfortunately, that's where the experience started to go downhill. Our server took about 15 minutes to come over, and although our appetizer arrived quickly (chips&dip), our drinks took another 15 minutes. I held off on ordering our meal because I wanted to do the Devour menu with the wine pairing. The food & drinks was a mixed bag: - Beauregard cocktail: 10/10 - Chips & avocado ranch dip: 8/10 - Crudo: 9/10 - Smoked fish dip: 4/10 - Mushroom ravioli: 8/10 - Short Rib Ragu: 3/10 - Chocolate crème brûlée: 3/10 There were definitely some great dishes, but the slow service and inconsistent food were disappointing for a restaurant with this reputation. The biggest issue came toward the end of the meal. The hostess came to our table and told us we needed to hurry because she needed the table for another reservation. **We were still waiting for dessert.** I explained that the service had been very slow and that we were waiting on our desserts. Our server apologized and said the hostess likely didn't realize what had been happening and was under stress. I completely understand that Devour can bring in more traffic than usual, but that's also something a restaurant at this level needs to be prepared to handle. We shouldn't have been made to feel rushed when the delays were not on our end. I really wanted to love Bluebeard after having it on my list for five years, but unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations. For comparison, some of my favorite Indy restaurants for both food and service are Bocca, Union 50, Matador, Rosemary & Olive, Tinker Street, Strange Bird, Delicia, and Bodhi. Maybe we caught Bluebeard on an off night, but for me, this experience fell short.

Heading back home from Sturgis SD taking the I80 route, stopped in Indianapolis IN for a quick dinner. Quick web search, Bluebeard popped up as one choice. Reviewed the menu seemed to be eclectic enough, off we go. The place had a decent size outdoor dinning area. Few of the tables were occupied. Table for one...indoor, outdoor was the question? Indoor. Although the weather was beautiful, indoors was my choice. Al fresco dining is not my first choice. I don't like to do battle over my meal with insects and other wild life. I deducted 1 star for red wine served at room temperature. How is it that, red wines are chilled (55F) on the west coast but served at 'room temperature' (72F, 82F...) on the east coast. Had two dishes, they were OK, service was ok Would I go back? Yes, if the red wine was chilled.

I wish I took a pic of the menu I got for the day 1st bite was amazing Hamachi was so yummy 9.5/10 the best hamachi fish cut I had in Indiana Drink were solid $1.50 oysters on Sunday is what the girl next to our table recommended The salt foam on the bottom was unique, and I like the sauce was on the sweeter and tangy side Hangar steak 9/10 I like the sauce, was actually a good medium rare Brussel sprouts 8/10 Crisped so well, sauce is simple Rigatoni 8/10 Simple but pretty solid with some protein from the steak Panne cotta 8/10 Has strawberry, Rhubarb, and chamomile base Not too sweet, the wet tart texture surprised me but it was still firm and okay I thought everything I got was seasoned nicely I will be back ‍

Is there a kids menu?

There isn't a kids menu as of 12/22/25

Are dogs allowed on the patio?

Yes!

When do you start outdoor seating?

Is there a parking lot?

No, but there is street parking.

Are reservations a must here?

They don't take reservations but the restaurant is well managed and the wait is worth it because the food is delicious.

Any vegan options? My friends want to bring me here while visiting from Ca but I'm not seeing any options. Looks like a great spot please help.

Vegan-friendly, but not vegan-specialized if you understand my meaning. The beet salad (which has cheese, so you need to ask them to hold that) and roasted cauliflower are delicious options. Outside of that, the menu changes daily and it's going…

My family is vegetarian, and I notice that depending on the day and the menu, there is maybe one vegetarian option on the menu. Would it be possible for two people to show up and both eat different vegetarian meals here?

Swarma, We can modify many dishes to accommodate many dietary needs. It is very possible for you and a guest to enjoy different dishes that are vegetarian. We post our lunch…

It says on their website bar service isn't available on saturday's until 5pm. If I am there between 11am-2pm for lunch on a Saturday am I not able to get any cocktails?

We are open for dinner service only on Saturday and Sunday beginning at 5 pm.

Thoughts about bringing our 20 month old for early dinner service... Yes or no?

Bluebeard is a very tolerant place. I'd like to think they'd be accommodating to any paying customer. The service is absolutely top-notch. I think the greater question is whether other customers would mind, and that would depend on your child's…

Someone said they have dollar oysters on sundays...IS THIS REAL?

Yes! It’s real! We open at 5 pm on Sunday’s. Come early before we run out. See you Sunday.

What's the dress code? Can I wear nice jeans and a collared shirt?

Yes, you sure can. While the food and service is fine dining, the atmosphere is fairly casual.

I wasn't in that mood so the staff helped me pick a passion fruit lemon drop. Delish! Hubs got a mule. He said it was good, just wanted it in the classic mule cup. I called ahead and learned that Saturday brunch runs until 2 PM, so we arrived a little before 1 PM. It wasn't busy, and we were able to get outdoor seating, which I definitely recommend if you want to enjoy the rooftop vibe. It really adds to the overall experience. Our server, Paola, was nice and offered some suggestions. She recommended the Green Eggs and Ham sandwich and the Bloody Mary Burger. My husband went with the Bloody Mary Burger, while I ordered the Roasted Brisket Beef Hash. We also decided to share the cinnamon roll, and let me tell you, that thing is HUGE! Even with just the two of us, we couldn't finish it after our meals, so we took some home. My husband thought the Bloody Mary Burger was pretty good, although he wasn't a fan of the horseradish aioli and wished he had ordered it without it. My Roasted Brisket Beef Hash was decent. I enjoyed the combination of potatoes, beef, and eggs, and it had a little kick to it. However, I felt like it was missing some flavor and could have used more seasoning. A lot of the beef pieces were also pretty fatty, which I didn't care for. The portion wasn't particularly large either, especially considering the higher price point. For drinks, we tried the Espresso Martini based on Paola's recommendation. Unfortunately, it was just OK and didn't really impress me. I also ordered the Bimshire Bevvy and that one was a winner! It was cute with the little flower garnish, and I loved the small pieces of ice and the glass it was served in. The presentation was on point and it was good! I enjoyed the rooftop atmosphere and outdoor seating, and I'm glad I finally got to try the brunch here. The service was nice, and the cinnamon roll and Bimshire Bevvy were good. However, the main food was a bit underwhelming for the price, and I wish my dish had packed more flavor. I'd consider coming back for the atmosphere and to try something different on the menu.
