We came here for a business dinner and we were in a semi-private room off of the bar/ restaurant area I felt like it was more public than semi-private. I liked the aesthetic of the restaurant and how fresh each dish was. Even the craft cocktails had a lot of thought and care put into them. Our server was great and I have no complaints with him. Everyone enjoyed their food and dessert.

What a vibe! Needed a late night quick bite so decided to try out Spoke and Steele. Have tried to go here multiple days during the con but it was busier in the afternoon. Sat at the bar and was help promptly. Just order salad, soup and charcuterie board. Everything was amazing great and friendly service. Very attentive and chill bartender. The soup hit all the best note. They also have a killer brunch menu. Would recommend

There's brunch... and then there's Spoke & Steele brunch!!! From the moment you walk in, the vibe is giving cozy, elevated, and just the right amount of "I deserve to be here." The seating? Intimate. The lighting? Soft. The whole space feels like a quiet luxury moment tucked right into the city. Now let's talk about what REALLY matters, the food. The shrimp & grits??? Listen... this wasn't just a dish, this was an EXPERIENCE. The grits were creamy, smooth, and perfectly rich, but that sauce layered on top?? Whew. Flavor on flavor on flavor. You've got that deep, savory, slightly smoky profile with juicy shrimp, sausage, and those pickled onions cutting through everything with the perfect tang. Every bite felt intentional. Like somebody knew what they were doing in that kitchen. And can we talk about how beautiful it was plated?? Because yes, I absolutely appreciated the aesthetics before I even picked up my fork. Paired it with a simple coffee moment, sitting by the window, and honestly... it felt like a reset. Not rushed, not loud, just good food, good atmosphere, and a chance to actually enjoy it. If you're looking for a brunch spot that feels a little more elevated, a little more intentional, and delivers on both flavor and experience. This is it. 10/10. I'll absolutely be back!!!

Not too bad actually- stopped by for breakfast- again traveling for work and this hit the spot. Definitely will stop by again.

In town for a conference and was looking for some food and good cocktail. I picked the right place. The bar was not crowded and the service was excellent. For drinks I had their S&S Barrel Aged Old Fashioned and S&S Barrel Aged Manhattan. The Old Fashioned was my favorite. For dinner I had their Smash Burger and it was excellent but super messy. Cool vibe with dim lighting.

We decided to come here prior to a concert. There was nobody else in here which surprised me. At any rate, Teddy, our server was absolutely phenomenal. He is very attentive and even let us know the kitchen was backed up d/t a large party. (Where was the party hiding?!) we eventually saw a crew venture out. Teddy was very apologetic for the delay and even offered us a drink. The service is excellent. Eventually the food came and it was delicious. We did ask for some customizations that's didn't happen but we were in a rush to get to our event so we didn't mention it. Despite a hiccup in our visit, the service recovery was great and over all the experience was great. The food. We had a Ceasar salad with blackened shrimp (get the blackened shrimp!) the BLT was ok (missed onion that I requested). French onion soup was delicious! Drinks are also unique and very good. I do plan to go back and hopefully it's a 5 star experience.

THE BIG: Located in downtown Indianapolis inside the Le Meridien Hotel. As you walk in, it's on the right with plenty of bar seating and tables. Parking garage closeby. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I came here for breakfast during my stay in Indy and the place is nice and cozy. Service was fast and I was immediately seated. I got the biscuits and gravy since the description sounded great. However when it arrived, it looked very hastily made. A soggy biscuit and a slop of gravy on top. The eggs were fine. Taste-wise, it was alright. The gravy wasn't that memorable and looked really yellow for some reason. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall the breakfast food was alright. Nothing to brag and the damage done was around $21 for the biscuits and gravy with a coffee.

*Way* overpriced, small portions, long wait for the food despite the restaurant being mostly empty. I got the Ragù (pictured) and a glass of wine and paid $50 for that. I see that some Yelpers have liked this place for brunch or drinks, neither of which I can speak on, but I can say with certainty that I would not recommend this place for dinner. There are SO many better options downtown.

This brief review is mostly to give praise to the fantastic bartender on our visit this past May 21st. I'm very annoyed that I failed to remember the gentleman's name but in our opinion he did a fantastic job given that the restaurant / bar was packed and there were evidently a significant number of call out's that evening. We spotted only two folks working. Anyway, while it did take a while after we sat down at the bar for service, he did acknowledge us after a bit and said he'd be along in a little bit. After taking our order, while juggling several others, our drinks arrived. Both were quite tasty. This was my first time here but I feel the ambiance would have been more pleasant had they been better-staffed so we didn't stay too long. That being said, our bartender was exemplary, even waving us off when we went to pay our tab - apologizing for being so shorthanded and juggling so many balls in the air. He was always friendly and certainly that was not at all expected or necessary. Again, apologies for not remembering his name. He was great. Spoke and Steele does seem to be a fine spot to stop in while in Indianapolis. It's comfortable and even cozy. A worthy establishment among the other fine ones in a great Downtown.

Didn't love the food here. The service was pretty good and it had a nice ambiance for sure but the food could've been way better. It was very oily and fatty, wish there were healthier options here :/

Roasted Mushroom Crepes and Smash Burger

We had a nice Easter brunch here last weekend. Started with the pear salad and it was lovely. I got the roasted mushroom crepes and they were so tasty. The pink peppercorn made for a fun bite. 2 people for the smash burgers and enjoyed them. The French toast was very yummy from the bite I snuck from my uncle. Three people got the blueberry pancakes and enjoyed them but wanted more. The prices are very reasonable and come with small to medium portion sizes. Kind of dark and quiet for a downtown place. Our server was very nice and attentive. Would dine again.

    French Patty Melt...wonderful.

Spoke and Steele is a lovely locally-operated bar/restaurant at the base of the Le Meridian Hotel in downtown Indianapolis. The restaurant is one of the few places offering breakfast, lunch and dinner and is within walking distance to Banker's Life Fieldhouse, Lucas Oil Stadium and the monuments downtown. The dining room is small and intimate with brass fixtures and eclectic decor. We stopped for brunch on Sunday. Eric, our server was polite and attentive. The Sunday menu offers a mixture of breakfast and luncheon options. I had the Provençal Chicken Salad Lettuce Wrap. The poached chicken was moist, tossed lightly in an aioli sauce served on Boston lettuce leaves and topped with fresh tomatoes and chopped pumpkin seeds. The portion was huge, more than I needed. It was delicious. My husband had the French Patty Melt that was so juicy that he talked about it the rest of the day. The beef was topped with grilled mushrooms, onion marmalade and a melted Gruyère. It was truly a delicious sandwich. It was served with French fries that were ok. There was plenty of street parking on Sunday morning. I suggest reservations if going during a busy time. Restrooms are upstairs and are lovely. This was our first visit, but won't be our last.

Brunch menu...he ordered a Bloody Mary which was tasty. We decided to share a burger. It was decent but nothing special. Quiet place no children in the restaurant was best part. Work paid for it but definitely would have gone to Bru burger instead. The time before that two winters ago when I went there was a bartender I think Britney was her name and she was very friendly attentive and asked if we were celebrating anything and brought us a dessert. The waiter/hostess was friendly but seemed timid, when my better half ordered his drink he didn't bother to ask me if I had wanted anything other than the water. Ehh place was empty and then he seated another couple literally next to us. I don't know but it just felt then we couldn't really talk since we had company in an empty room. It just wasn't worth it this time.

Would love to try the fried shrimp at some point. The accompanying aiolis perfectly complemented the sliders! I completed my meal with a lemon drop martini. Service was friendly & attentive. The drinks, the ramen, the dessert...we love it all, and we love spending our money at a local business. For years now, the kitchen has substituted rice for ramen for me because I have gluten intolerance. I have always asked respectfully, explained why, and said thank you, every single time. Tonight my husband and I walked down to Strangebird for dinner, ordered drinks and dinner, and I had *just* said to my husband that Strangebird has come to feel like a second home. Then the server came out and told us that the chef has decided they will no longer permit any modifications, including those that meet dietary needs. We were out on the quiet patio surrounded by other customers, so on top of being totally blindsided, it was actually pretty embarrassing, too. Folks, let me tell you how much I wish I could just eat the ramen noodles like everybody else. So much food that I love (and in some cases spent years learning to make myself) went out the window forever when my body stopped being able to handle wheat. But at Strangebird, I could still go in and enjoy the depth of flavor in every other component of a bowl of ramen. And that meant the absolute world to me. I'm heartbroken.

Keagan Fife (Manager) - A team player, receptive to feedback and conscientious. We had a issue while there and he was able to step in and problem solve with me and come up with a solution that really won us over. We had a moment where it was feeling a bit "why did we come here" but his customer service exceeded expectation. That's good management. (He's the gentleman in the video below.) Let's get the negative out the way 1st. The first waitress asked if we wanted anything to drink. I told her we hadn't received menus. She came back sat them down and walked away. We never saw her again. A new waitress came and she seemed pleasant enough. Once we were all seated she began to take our orders. She made a point to say she needed to write it all down or she was get it mixed up. She then did not write anything down. Our food came out extremely slow but that wasn't a huge deal because we all were mingling. A lot of her team had to step in and deliver our food, give drinks, check on us etc. She was pretty non existent. Two of the ladies never received food. This was after we had been there for 2 hours and everyone else had received their items. At the end when we asked for our check they were all mixed up and confused. The waitress then blamed us for adding things and moving around. We never moved once and she only came around the one time when she originally took our orders. We never got a chance to add things. (it was quite comical that she tried to say that) I ended up asking for manager because she seemed overwhelmed and a bit bias about our group. Assuming that we wouldn't want one check and splitting them because she figured we would want it that way and then blaming us because she did it when we never asked for split. There rule is parties over 8 have to have 1 bill and we never asked for an exception. There was just her assumption that a group of black women wouldn't want to do that. (I digress) There were a few more things but I will end it there. That was the big negative. Now the positive!!! Ambiance 10/10 - great views, great music, great location, umbrellas on roof were great although a but wobbly and scary. Also, they come around with complimentary sunglasses while dining. I thought this was a nice and luxurious touch! Food 8/10 - most food received was delicious Service 9/10 - everyone except for our server was great! Everyone who pitched in to help was awesome! Ended up tipping a different server who basically helped us the whole time. Bless his heart because I know he was super busy. As stated above management handle the situation well. I would definitely go back! I try to give people a chance. I think our server may have been overwhelmed and had a past experience that left her bias against our group but hopefully she can grow and get better. Her actions don't reflect the restaurant as a whole! Go and enjoy the vibes and views!
