The restaurant features an extensive drink menu that will suite anyone's pallet. We chose to start with the bread service which was killer especially the honey butter. All of the apps look d amazing but went for the dry rub duck wings with home made ranch. My only critic was I wish there were more than 3. Finished off with the shrimp and grits. Although, I wasn't in New Orleans the spiciness took me back there. The wait staff was great. Even though we were late for the reservation we were seated promptly and had multiple people taking care of us. Like somebody knew what they were doing in that kitchen. And can we talk about how beautiful it was plated?? Because yes, I absolutely appreciated the aesthetics before I even picked up my fork. Paired it with a simple coffee moment, sitting by the window, and honestly... it felt like a reset. Not rushed, not loud, just good food, good atmosphere, and a chance to actually enjoy it. The hotel is wonderful. The restaurant is a mess. Food that came was not as described on the menu. Substitutions were made that were not articulated prior to serving. My fork was sticky. Drinks had to be asked for several times. They were severely understaffed. Many empty tables were unbussed from the time we arrived to the time we left. Food that did come was bland and disappointing. The space is also very loud. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

Overall somewhat satisfied with my wife and I's experience at Spoke and Steele. We made a reservation about a week in advance for Valentines Day- eve. We arrived to the restaurant around ten minutes prior to our reservation, and quickly sat. We walk to a table- a booth that normally houses two tables pushed together, with around two inches between tables. We were practically sitting on top of the other two individuals sitting at the table. Forgot conversation- we heard everything they said, they heard everything we said, might as well have been on a double date. They weren't short of two top tables either- there were at least two, two top tables that sat empty our entire dining experience. Our server was on it throughout the night. The food was good to okay. We started with bread service. One piece of my bread was cold, and the other was warm. The honey miso butter was maybe a highlight of the whole meal. I started with a kale Caesar salad. Nice crunch to it, and an appropriate amount of dressing. My wife and I split two meals. The first- Coq Au Vin Pot pie. The meat was flavorful- but man, there is a lot of pastry when compared to meat. We got the braised short ribs. I wouldn't call the short ribs, short ribs- it was more of like a pot roast taste and consistency. There was a decent flavor, but nothing overtly amazing. Our cocktails were strong, but nothing to write home about. Overall, wouldn't be my first stop for a restaurant downtown, but if I was invited by someone else, I would most likely try it again. read more

We assembled in a private room for dinner, and pre-dinner cocktails, up the stairs from the main dining area, with a fixed menu for our group. I have posted some photos from this experience along with a shot of the menu. Spoke & Steele is one of the better curated fine dining experiences in downtown Indianappolis. The staff was attentive and friendly, and the food well prepared. For a group setting the restaurant did a fine job of accommodating our needs. I would enjoy the opportunity to return to Indianappolis and enjoy their delicious food in the main dining area. I would recommend this restaurant for a visit and would not hesitate to take a guest whom I wanted to impress with a good culinary experience. read more

What a vibe! Needed a late night quick bite so decided to try out Spoke and Steele. Have tried to go here multiple days during the con but it was busier in the afternoon. We came here for a business dinner and we were in a semi-private room off of the bar/ restaurant area I felt like it was more public than semi-private. I liked the aesthetic of the restaurant and how fresh each dish was. Even the craft cocktails had a lot of thought and care put into them. Our server was great and I have no complaints with him. So It had been a few years since my last visit here. I thought this place must have improved since it is still in existence. I had discovered that they listed creme brulee flights on their menu. I looooove a good creme brulee and have a friend equally into this dessert. We make reservations so we could go and check this out. Well thank goodness we asked what flavors the creme brulee flight had before we ordered mains. This is when we found out that they do NOT have brulee flights. We left since that was our main purpose here. We went next door for some traditional brulee there. I thought maybe I missed an updated version of the menu, but I checked online the day after and of course the menu still proudly lists creme brulee flights. read more

We decided to come here prior to a concert. There was nobody else in here which surprised me. At any rate, Teddy, our server was absolutely phenomenal. He is very attentive and even let us know the kitchen was backed up d/t a large party. (Where was the party hiding?!) we eventually saw a crew venture out. Teddy was very apologetic for the delay and even offered us a drink. The service is excellent. Eventually the food came and it was delicious. We did ask for some customizations that's didn't happen but we were in a rush to get to our event so we didn't mention it. Despite a hiccup in our visit, the service recovery was great and over all the experience was great. The food. We had a Ceasar salad with blackened shrimp (get the blackened shrimp!) the BLT was ok (missed onion that I requested). French onion soup was delicious! Drinks are also unique and very good. THE BIG: Located in downtown Indianapolis inside the Le Meridien Hotel. As you walk in, it's on the right with plenty of bar seating and tables. Parking garage closeby. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I came here for breakfast during my stay in Indy and the place is nice and cozy. Service was fast and I was immediately seated. I got the biscuits and gravy since the description sounded great. However when it arrived, it looked very hastily made. A soggy biscuit and a slop of gravy on top. The eggs were fine. Taste-wise, it was alright. The gravy wasn't that memorable and looked really yellow for some reason. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall the breakfast food was alright. Nothing to brag and the damage done was around $21 for the biscuits and gravy with a coffee. read more

I came here once for dinner 4 or 5 years ago, and was actually surprised to learn it was still open. The decor and ambiance was really nice even though it is in a hotel. We went with another couple on a Saturday night at 7pm. There were people at a few tables, but the waitress seemed really busy and a bit overwhelmed. After those tables left we were the only table there and there were a few people at the bar. It felt very empty which was weird for a busy Saturday night downtown. The cocktails were delicious!! I LOVED the S & S barrel aged Old Fashioned. The marinated golden beats appetizer was unique and very delicious. The burrata appetizer was ok. The entrees were disappointing. My husband ordered the bone- in -pork chop. Though looking back at the menu now, I see it says crispy. Other than that it was not obviously indicated in the description that it was fried. Surprising for a bone in pork chop. It was heavily breaded and a very heavy dish overall. I had the Roasted Salmon. The salmon was well prepared and flavorful, but overall the dish was very greasy. The risotto had more of a consistency of rice with a lot of separated oil/butter and just wasn't very cohesive. I think this a great place for drinks and maybe appetizers, but I don't think they delivered when it came to the entrees. This brief review is mostly to give praise to the fantastic bartender on our visit this past May 21st. I'm very annoyed that I failed to remember the gentleman's name but in our opinion he did a fantastic job given that the restaurant / bar was packed and there were evidently a significant number of call out's that evening. We spotted only two folks working. Anyway, while it did take a while after we sat down at the bar for service, he did acknowledge us after a bit and said he'd be along in a little bit. After taking our order, while juggling several others, our drinks arrived. Both were quite tasty. This was my first time here but I feel the ambiance would have been more pleasant had they been better-staffed so we didn't stay too long. That being said, our bartender was exemplary, even waving us off when we went to pay our tab - apologizing for being so shorthanded and juggling so many balls in the air. He was always friendly and certainly that was not at all expected or necessary. Again, apologies for not remembering his name. He was great. Spoke and Steele does seem to be a fine spot to stop in while in Indianapolis. It's comfortable and even cozy. A worthy establishment among the other fine ones in a great Downtown. read more

Was in town for a conference. We had a large party which can always be dicey. Our reservation was at 8:00 so it wasn't crazy busy. The waitress was just so rude because in my opinion she didn't want such a large party. She told us no less than 3 times that we were getting charged 20% tip for a large party. No problem we knew that. We got our drinks and ordered our food. At around 9:30 (over an hour since we ordered) we finally found out that the chef walked out. No apology. When we finally got our food at 10 pm it was not edible. We just paid after being told yet again we were going to have a 20% surcharge, and left. Some of the people in our party who were at another table never got their food. In my opinion, when a waitress acts the way ours did and the chef walked out during service there's something fundamentally wrong with the business. read more

Great last minute find. Had the most amazing dinner date. The calamari appetizer was one of the best I've had. The salmon and risotto dinner was super light and delicious and the asparagus was cooked perfectly. We had a nice Easter brunch here last weekend. Started with the pear salad and it was lovely. I got the roasted mushroom crepes and they were so tasty. The pink peppercorn made for a fun bite. 2 people for the smash burgers and enjoyed them. The French toast was very yummy from the bite I snuck from my uncle. Three people got the blueberry pancakes and enjoyed them but wanted more. The prices are very reasonable and come with small to medium portion sizes. Kind of dark and quiet for a downtown place. Spoke and Steele is a lovely locally-operated bar/restaurant at the base of the Le Meridian Hotel in downtown Indianapolis. The restaurant is one of the few places offering breakfast, lunch and dinner and is within walking distance to Banker's Life Fieldhouse, Lucas Oil Stadium and the monuments downtown. The dining room is small and intimate with brass fixtures and eclectic decor. We stopped for brunch on Sunday. Eric, our server was polite and attentive. The Sunday menu offers a mixture of breakfast and luncheon options. I had the Provençal Chicken Salad Lettuce Wrap. The poached chicken was moist, tossed lightly in an aioli sauce served on Boston lettuce leaves and topped with fresh tomatoes and chopped pumpkin seeds. The portion was huge, more than I needed. It was delicious. My husband had the French Patty Melt that was so juicy that he talked about it the rest of the day. The beef was topped with grilled mushrooms, onion marmalade and a melted Gruyère. It was truly a delicious sandwich. It was served with French fries that were ok. There was plenty of street parking on Sunday morning. I suggest reservations if going during a busy time. Restrooms are upstairs and are lovely. This was our first visit, but won't be our last. read more

Brunch menu...he ordered a Bloody Mary which was tasty. We decided to share a burger. It was decent but nothing special. Quiet place no children in the restaurant was best part. Work paid for it but definitely would have gone to Bru burger instead. The time before that two winters ago when I went there was a bartender I think Britney was her name and she was very friendly attentive and asked if we were celebrating anything and brought us a dessert. The waiter/hostess was friendly but seemed timid, when my better half ordered his drink he didn't bother to ask me if I had wanted anything other than the water. Ehh place was empty and then he seated another couple literally next to us. I don't know but it just felt then we couldn't really talk since we had company in an empty room. Amazing brunch service. This hotel restaurant is a must when in the area. Ask about the history of the wood barrels displayed in the entryway and throughout the restaurant. The roasted mushroom crepes mornay with a brie cheese and cracked pink pepper were nicely plated, the gravy was light and the mushrooms fresh. Gruyère cheese on anything at the right temperature and melted nicely delivers a distinct flavor. And this Angus Patty melt included mushrooms and a red onion marmalade with a house special aioli and truffle butter. The fries were as expected... fresh and the patty melt was served on a buttery and lightly toasted bread. Servers were courteous, accommodating and explained the extensive wine list. read more

There's a new chef at Spoke and Steel! Tonight was a delight! We were able to taste test many plates and I must say the new chef and dinner menu have elevated the experience to an entirely new level. We started with the chef's special appetizer chicken pot pie egg rolls and grapefruit arugula salad, a delightful fusion of flavors. The attention to detail in both presentation and taste was evident, with fresh ingredients. The main course was nothing short of spectacular. Each dish showcased the chef's mastery of creativity. Our entrees were the Icelandic cod, Smash burger, Rigatoni, and the Pan Seared New York Strip! Dessert was a beautifully plated and a combo of 3 different crème brulés that were almost too pretty to eat. Pear, Kiwi, and Blood Orange! What a treat! 10/10 highly recommend! Party of 7 dined in a designated private section on New Year Eve. The waitress was AMAZING! I ordered the Shrimp + Grits w/poached eggs ($23+). The grits were dry and not seasoned, I believe I counted 3 slightly seasoned shrimp and the eggs had a watery texture. I was told the Sangria's, Patty Melt and S&S Eggs were good. The waitress offered to remake my espresso martini for it was watered down. The second one was better but not worth $13, I believe she had it made with Nitro. There is meter parking on the street or options for garage parking at the mall. Due to limited options close to the restaurant, I paid $7 for 2 hours in the garage. Nice ambience! It's spacious with a welcoming entryway. Unfortunately we dealt with numerous gnats the entire time we were there. read more

Went here prior to a show at IRT and was very underwhelmed. We split three appetizers and ordered drinks. Nothing tasted the way you'd expect, to the point we thought we got the wrong drinks. Appetizers were ok, but nothing memorable. We also got a Creme Brule flight, which I was very excited about, but it tasted like yogurt. We were hysterical laughing because it had no sugar top to crack, and the consistency was running yogurt. One tasted like it was rancid, and the others were just odd. New Years Eve meal was fantastic. Sadly they were not busy due to their open table profile not working due to a partial restaurant shutdown due to renovations. The staff was fabulous and the food even better. This restaurant should be booked to capacity at all times. We had the bread basket, shrimp and grits and the Brie and apricot grilled cheese. All of this food was full of depth and flavor. We later returned for dessert in front of the fire. We were fortunate to have the restaurant almost to ourselves for dessert which I hope never happens again as this restaurant is too good to be empty. Please make reservations or simply walk in. For starters I actually came in seeking employment but quickly put my heavy experience resume away. I sat down at the bar and after I decided within 2 min due to cleanliness and service not to bother I decided to get a beer just to give it a second chance. The "bartender" (I use that lightly) Demisha said "what do you want" Not hi, how are you, not even her name. Only reason I know is because I still have my receipt. I asked for a beer menu, she handed me a sticky laminated word document which seemed to be something I'd print for my own staff to know what beers we have.. not a menu for a guest. I simply asked for a mich ultra draft, she then asked me which number it was on the list so she knew which draft to pour as they didn't have labeled handles. I asked for a shot of fireball in which she said they didn't have. Considering she didn't look, and clearly isn't very experienced. As someone who has managed several high end restaurants and bars all over, I'd consider giving her more training or finding staff members with experience. On top of that there was a gentleman in the bar as well who stared at me for awhile, I couldn't figure out why until a girl, with a wig and trench coat came in clearly not there for a date if you know what I mean.
