Love Uncle Mike's! I recently went with friends after the half marathon and they were so accommodating and sweet. The service is top tier. The food is also amazing. Our out of town Filipina friend said the food was authentic and we all agreed it was delicious. The line can be at times long and there are only 2 outdoor tables but it's definitely worth the wait :)

Food here is amazing. Traditional Filipino breakfast in the best way. Lugau was delicious and comes with every meal. Eggs were cooked perfectly, and the tacino was very flavorful. Steak was what they were known for and def recommend. Service was solid. Food came out pretty quick for how busy they were. No reservations and we went on a busy Sunday. Waited about 45min. The place is clean but a little crowded. A little loud but not unbearable. They have some outside seating too. Definitely come here if you're in the mood for some Filipino food.

We came by as a party of 3 around 7am on a Friday morning after a redeye flight on Spirit (rip) and oh my gosh was this the perfect pick me up to get our Chicago trip started!! This is also my friend's favorite Filipino spot as well, and my expectations were absolutely met! The complimentary soup was warm, filling, and amazingly seasoned with the perfect rice ratio. I opted for the loganisa breakfast, their sweet sausage (which I thought tasted similar to nem nướng) and it was great with their garlic rice and scrambled eggs on top. Then their tomato onion salad (tastes similar to pico de gallo) was a great acidic side to the sweet sausage and soft egg. The champorado was a delicious sweet dessert to finish it off! My friend got the bangus, fried milkfish, and I got to try a bite. It was crispy, soft on the inside, and perfectly seasoned as well. If I'm ever in the area again I'll for sure get the rest of their menu!

The best Filipino breakfast in Chicago (Including that other two Michelin star place). Uncle Mike's taste's like home. It may be three inches above a hole in the wall spot, but the flavor and service is never compromised. It starts with a warm bowl of rice porridge which is so delightful, you would give it five stars just from that. The decorations are eclectic and make you feel like you're in your friend's mom's kitchen. Give the breakfast platters a shot - choose whatever meat strikes your fancy, I like the longaniza and the fish, and enjoy. This place is more of a breakfast/lunch destination, so take some time to hear over in the morning. Lots of easy parking.

This place was SO GOOD! It has a mom and pop vibe. No reservations so there may be a wait. Smaller restaurant. They close at 2. They give you free congee. The pork was so good! One of the better Filipino restaurants.

Philippine chorizo. Sweet. They remind me of a meat version of a plantain.

Hot spot hole in the wall ALERT ! Philippine breakfast Tea and soup are free with purchase. The staff are very pleasant. Omg the main food. So not a regret coming here !!! Street parking is decent. No parking lots from what I can tell. Delight !

My favorite place I ate during my time in Chicago! I felt like I had to be rolled out of here; it was delicious. Husband and I ordered 2 plates: * tocino plate (grilled anise wine cured pork shoulder) * a combo plate of baby bangus (small fried marinated milkfish) with a lil' vinegar and longanisa (grilled anise wine cured sweet chorizo sausage) Both came with garlic rice, two eggs, some tomatoes and onions, and a little brown sugar oatmeal. You also get a complimentary bowl of congee first. This was soooooo good. Every single bite was flavorful and I'm still thinking about the tocino. We both cleaned our plates spotless. This is a must-go whenever I come back to Chicago.

Uncle Mike's is a gem! Reasonable prices, generous portions, and absolutely delicious food made for a great experience. This spot is casual and no frills- perfect for a lowkey meal that is comfortable both solo and in good company. The staff was very friendly and immediately brought out piping hot bowls of slow simmered lugaw (rice porridge). The aromatics and broth were so flavorful and comforting- basically, everything you want on a frigid Chicago day. For the main event, I ordered the longanisa breakfast. The eggs are cooked to order- I went with over-easy and the way the yolks soaked into the fluffy garlic rice underneath was glorious. The sausage had the perfect crisp and char on the outside, with a perfectly sweet and savory flavor. Needless to say, I will be back for a return visit soon, and highly recommend checking out this restaurant!

Uncle Mike's Place earns its place as a Filipino iconic restaurant for its food and hospitality. When you initially get seated, you are immediately served with a hot bowl of lugaw. The flavors were well balanced and had a strong chicken broth flavor that shines through. It is heavenly on a cold winter day to be eating this, especially for it being complementary for every customer. I decided to order a combo Filipino breakfast plate with Tocino and Longanisa. It comes with two eggs, salsa, and small cup of champorado. Everything paired well together and was cooked perfectly. Everything does have sweetness to it, so if you're new to Filipino food, that is something to be aware of. I personally have a sweet tooth and loved the salty-sweet flavor combination. For me, the standout on my plate was the champorado. It was something new that I have never tried and it was absolutely delicious. It was thick, rich, creamy, and slightly sweet. It tasted great with the meats on the plate, and also on its own! Uncle Mike's stands as a pillar of diverse cultures Chicago brings to the food scene. Filipino breakfast is not too commonly found in many parts of the United States and Uncle Mike's is a very solid representation of it.

Always love coming here, there is a wait list and you'll need to sign up when you scan the QR code at their door. The wait for our party of 6 was about 30 minutes at 11:30 AM on a Sunday. There is a line for sure if you go for their breakfast, but it's always worth it! We got seated in the back room where there's plenty of spots with larger tables. The grilled pork chop was quite overcooked, but I always love ther garlic rice and fresh Lugaw. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal!

Uncle Mike's Place is an American-Filipino diner-like joint that offers an all-day breakfast and lunch - this unassuming spot seems to be a favorite amongst the locals. Our group came here for brunch, and we ordered: +a complimentary lugaw is served everyday with your meal - this homestyle Filipino rice porridge that is long-simmered chicken broth with ginger and leeks was delicious! The slice of lemon gave it a nice brightness to it (could have eaten multiple large bowls of these!) +the Full Skirt Steak - the steak was overcooked, so it was dry and chewy; served with garlic rice, a fried runny egg, and a cup of champurrado (a chocolate rice pudding); wasn't a fan of the champurrado, as it was super watered down and thin, and had not much of a taste to it +the Longanisa - a platter with grilled anise wine-cured sweet chorizo sausage, served with garlic rice, a fried runny egg, and a cup of champurrado (a chocolate rice pudding); wasn't a fan of the champurrado, as it was super watered down and thin, and had not much of a taste to it +the Big Bangus - a platter with a large fried marinated Pacific milkfish, served with garlic rice, a fried runny egg, and a cup of champurrado (a chocolate rice pudding); wasn't a fan of the champurrado, as it was super watered down and thin, and had not much of a taste to it +Fish Grits & Cheese - a large bowl of grits with a block of fried fish, topped with melted cheese; the fish tasted just a usual filet of fish; using freshly-shredded cheese could have made this better +and, a plate of French Toast The staff were friendly, and they did check in often throughout our dining experience. The space doesn't seem much from the outside, but we were surprised at how 'long' and packed the place was; it does get tight! Note that they do not take reservations, and it's a first-come, first-serve type of a situation. Street parking can be found in the area. +Lugaw! +friendly service +street parking available

Uncle Mike is a well-known Filipino brunch restaurant in the West town area in Chicago. My friends and I had high expectations for this place as it was very hyped. Overall, we felt that the food was okay. Some comments on the food: Bangus (Milkfish): crispy, well salted. Tocino and the longanisa (the cured pork and sausages) were not bad. A suggestion I would like to make as an Asian is that I did wish there were some Filipino veggies on the plate, as I think that would elevate the whole experience. The lugaw (rice porridge) was my personal favorite. It was gingery, savory and homey at the same time. To conclude, we don't think the food was bad but we also wish that there were more types of dishes that showcased Filipino cuisine. The food itself was not badly prepared, but it would be great to offer more sauces, unique dishes, or introduce more flavor varieties (other than vinegar). Personally we wouldn't go out of our way to visit, but we would love to see if there are new items on the menu.

While walking around the neighbourhood, we stumbled upon this cute little Filipino breakfast joint. The restaurant has a very homely vibe, and they served us some warm, fresh Lagaw on the house the moment we were seated. We ordered their Tocino breakfast platter and Longanisa breakfast platter along with coffee. The breakfast platters come with a side of rice, salsa, and a sauce, which was very alien to my taste buds. The sausages (longanisa) were a delight, and the pork shoulder was also cooked to perfection. These flavours were very new and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. One breakfast platter is very filling for one person, and we were full for the rest of the day. It was overall a good experience. Definitely give it a try if you fail to get your order from Kasama like us.

My friend and I dedicated a day where we would just put our name down and however long it took we would wait haha. We drove into the city which took and hour and we put our name down and waited an hour before we were called. The weather was great so we just walked around the west loop area. We started with a half size of the green salad and a half size of the roasted bone marrow. The house salad is super refreshing. A lot of vinegar in the dressing which I personally really like. Also tasted some fennel which was an interesting flavor. The roasted bone marrow is the winner of the night. I would come back to Au Cheval for this alone. It was paired with a thick slice of Texas toast and a beef cheek marmalade and it is seriously the PERFECT balance of flavors. Fatty. Sweet. Buttery. Literally insane and this is a must order! Then came the famous burger. My friend and I each ordered a single cheeseburger with the egg and bacon added. Something to note is that the single cheeseburger actually has 2 patties and the double cheeseburger has 3 patties (3/4lbs of beef). The presentation itself is beautiful and makes you just not want to eat it haha. The burger itself is so decadent and hefty with the burger patties, cheese, egg and bacon. I'll be honest, I needed some more pickles or just something to cut all the fattiness of the burger. There were pickles in the burger and it is served with a huge pickle spear. But I still was itching for some more bitterness/acid to balance the flavors. It was so decadent, I couldn't finish it all. All in all, I would definitely come back and order the burger again and would recommend it to anyone! We ordered a side of fries which came with their garlic aioli. The fries were cooked to perfection. Super crunchy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside and piping hot! The garlic aioli is perfect and have no notes for it. We also were treated to a vanilla scoop with chocolate sauce which was the perfect cap to our meal! Our waitress was so friendly and my friend and I loved her! She was so sweet and genuine. Hog Salt restaurants never fail with their service!

I'd like to throw in my own quote into the gauntlet: "it's ok". It sounds harsh but Our burger patty was noticeably dry. The bread... was also dry. The egg and bacon add-ons were good but as a whole, the burger was missing the core aspect. The bread being dry I can justify by knowing that Au Cheval makes it a point to make everything gluten-free (or so someone told me). I think that's cool but not necessarily what I came looking for. I actually noticed prior to our trip from photos that the buns looked noticeably arid but I gave them no heed because of all of the praise. And I can give them the benefit of the doubt that we were there on a Sunday night, so potentially not the most quality inventory (although I personally don't think that's a great excuse). The service and the ambiance were on point! If you're wondering if there's a required attire (no shorts or flip flops) I wouldn't fret, the atmosphere is a lot more casual despite self-describing as an "intimate" setting. It's definitely more intimate than a normal burger restaurant, with dim lighting and isolated booths but what you're wearing isn't going to dictate how other guests and staff feel. I would cover up anyways just cause there was ac running. I told my friend who moved from Nyc to Chicago and he said he felt the same. And one of our couple friends were surprised to hear the patty being dry, so... off day?

When I asked about the wait time, the host joked that it was two hours. Under normal circumstances, I would have laughed and played along. Given what had just happened minutes earlier, it did not quite land... but to their credit, the moment I explained the situation, everything shifted. They sat me promptly and turned what could have been a lingering bad night into a completely different experience. Julio, my server, set the tone immediately. Julio was professional, attentive, and generous. He brought out meatballs on the house, which were excellent. I ordered calamari, rigatoni alla vodka with shrimp, and what I believe was a chocolate torte for dessert (also on the house, which I was not expecting). Everything was spot on. The rigatoni in particular stood out. It was made in house and had the kind of texture and quality you notice right away. The Manager (Lance) also stopped by, having been present when I explained what had happened earlier. That kind of awareness and follow-through matters more than people realize. It what separates a place that serves food from a place that understands hospitality. By the time I was finishing dessert, I found myself watching pizzas go out to nearby tables and immediately reconsidering my menu choices for the evening. That's usually a good sign. The host who initially joked about the wait time also came by at the end of my meal. She was polite, thoughtful, and clearly intentional about making sure the experience landed well. I appreciated this gesture. When the bill came, I asked what the total would have been without the discounts and complimentary items. Once I had that number, I tipped Julio the difference. It felt like the only appropriate way to reflect the level of service and generosity I received. I'll be back (for the pizza). Overall: Food (yes) Service (yes) Ambiance (yes)

Once we got seated, our server took our order relatively quickly and we ordered the House made for Kasha with a goat cheese and honey topping, the grilled octopus appetizer, and because we were enjoying our conversation so much we ended up just skipping Wright to dessert and ordering the gooey butter cake. For a light meal, this was relatively satisfactory. Our server said they come to the octopus because we waited so long, so it was nice that the staff was acknowledging that we waited a little bit for our table and we're willing to compensate us. As someone who lives in the river north area, I have actually been here, probably a dozen times, and it's always a good little spot but a little bit pricey for what you're getting. Be sure to make your reservation in advance because you will not be seated without one due to its popularity among both locals and tourists. We come here every time we visit Chicagoat. The food is absolutely amazing. We had the following dishes: 1. Roasted Pig Face Straw fries topped with roasted pork face, a sunny egg, and a collection of magical sauces that somehow transform into pure comfort when mixed together. I don't even know exactly what's in the sauce, but I don't need to know. This dish is divine and an absolute must-order. The crispy fries, rich and tender pork that practically melts apart, silky egg yolk, and savory sauce create a dish that is indulgent, comforting, and ridiculously delicious 2. Green Beans Not featured in the photo because we ate them too fast. Enough said. Get them. 3. Goat Mousse The menu changes periodically, so this was a new dish for us. The goat mousse was creamy, rich, and surprisingly light, served with sweet jam, crumpets, crackers, pickles, and giardiniera. The contrast of sweet, tangy, creamy, crunchy, and savory flavors creates a little flavor party in your mouth. Every bite can be customized differently, which made this dish especially fun to share. 4. Pork Belly & Watermelon Perfectly cooked pork belly with a crisp exterior and rich, savory flavor, balanced beautifully by refreshing watermelon cubes and fresh greens. I don't know how healthy it is, but we aren't here for health. We're here for flavor. We're here for comfort. We're here to be punched in the soul with food that we will never forget! The sweet, juicy watermelon cuts through the richness of the pork belly and creates a combination that sounds unusual but works incredibly well. 5. Halibut with Thai Sprouts A beautifully cooked piece of halibut served with Thai sprouts, miso marcona butter, and blueberry fish sauce. Yes, blueberry fish sauce. And yes, it works. The fish was flaky, buttery, and perfectly cooked. The savory umami from the miso butter paired with the subtle sweetness and acidity from the fish sauce created a combination that was balanced, and memorable yet surprising to me. The restaurant itself has a dark, energetic atmosphere and is always packed. The tables are definitely close together, but given how popular the restaurant is, I understand why they maximize the space. Absolutely recommend coming here. Your tummies won't regret it.

I had a splendid dinner at Girl & The Goat. Was seated promptly when I arrived for my dinner…read morereservation and my seat had a view of the kitchen. It was so fun to chat with the chefs and watch them prepare dishes. I ordered the roasted "pig face" potatoes and the famous sautéed green beans. While waiting for my food, the chef surprised me with complimentary chickpea fritters to try. All of the dishes tasted incredibly delicious and this was the best restaurant I ate at during my trip. The atmosphere was cozy and romantic. I would definitely dine here again the next time I am in Chicago.

I came here over the weekend with my family to celebrate my graduation, and the server named Cat was AMAZING! She made me feel so special at my graduation brunch through her hospitality, witty remarks, easy-going humor, and attentiveness to her clients. If I were her manager, I would give Cat a raise because of how much she elevated the experience and excels at what she does. Additionally, the food was fantastic! The pull-apart bread was so delicious and something I would 100% come back for, as well as the short rib hash, which was flavorful and tender. The ambiance was perfect for a sunny day with a mild temperature, making it the perfect brunch spot. Once again, I cannot emphasize enough how much Cat made our time at Oakville so special. Thank you, Cat, for being so wonderful at your job and going above and beyond to make my special day even more special. 10/10 would definitely come back!!!

I actually come to Oakville pretty often and every time it's amazing!…read more For this visit, we just did a few apps: fries, tostadas, and spinach dip. All were good but i will say that the dip was missing a little extra flavor (we added the lemon to elevate which helped). The truffle fries dipping sauce is next level & in my opinion a must try for all. The staff is always super welcoming and kind! Plus now that the patio there's not a bad choice for seating inside or out. Additionally, I attached a photo of the tuna poke bowl from a lunch visit. Easily my favorite lunch menu item they offer.
