We were visiting Chicago and while I was looking around our area I had seen that this place was pretty close. It caught my attention because I'm from MN and we don't have many Filipino restaurants! On our last day we walked here and first off, I loved the interior it was so so cute! It felt very cozy and had a decent amount of seating. We didn't get any drinks but we did order two pork belly bowls. It wasn't the cheapest ever but we also probably picked the most expensive meat on the menu. Either way, it was so so so so worth it. It was so delicious. My boyfriend and I went silent and couldn't stop eating and looking at each other saying "this is soooo good" the entire time. The sauce they used on the bowl was almost creamy? and had such balanced flavors. I WISH this was in Minnesota, I think I'd be there every week. Barista was neglegent or incompetent (take your pick) and failed to secure my coffee lid before handing me the drink carrier, so my keys drowned in cafe de con in the car cup holder. I recently tried the ube latte but thought the coffee flavor overpowered the drink--did not really taste anything but coffee/milk (didn't really taste any ube). Usually people do a mango purée at the bottom which I love too but this was different. Almost like a mango smoothie or milk. Remind me almost of the cuban mango smoothies I grew up with. 10/10. This spot has been on my radar for awhile and I stopped in on a Sunday morning for a coffee and a quick brunch. I wasn't aware at how much food they had but was pleasantly surprised at the wide variety of offerings! It was pretty packed when I arrived. I loved the space and thought the upcycled jars as planters were SO cute. I got to try the White Rabbit latte which was a Spring special on their menu. While it was a good latte, I didn't taste anything like the White Rabbit candy. It was just a plain vanilla latte in my opinion. The silog bowls were SO good! I love that they offer so many variations of it. I went with the Longanisa and Tocino Bacon and it was delicious and fulfilling. I also tried the lumpia and they weren't bad! Coming back with another review now that I've tried the food. Their breakfast is so good y'all. They have breakfast rice bowls called Silog and I get the burger steak with gravy (like a Loco Moco!) and I've been trying g to recreate it at home but it's not worth it because honestly their prices are very reasonable for the area. The garlic rice (SWOON ITS SO GARLICKY) underneath the burger patty with a yummy fried egg and coconut gravy. I could die happy..after a nap! Oh and the hash brown? Hang it up McDonald's. There's a new hangover helper in town. And they have Lumpia so you should always be getting lumpia no matter what I feel like that goes without saying right? Y'all are getting lumpia whenever they become available take to you, right?? Came in today around 11 am and it was packed. There's a good amount of seating cramped into the small space. You order at the register up top, they give you a number, and they bring the food to you. Drinks are called and picked up at the counter whether you dine in or not which I think is odd. Ambiance 3.5/5: it's well decorated and homey but it's way too cramped. The register being at the top with little to no wiggle room made it hard to scooch past other guests. Probably more ideal for one on one dates. Service 3.5/5: Service was friendly and quick. Nothing notable which is fine! Food/Drinks: Ube Matcha 3/5: neither the matcha or ube flavor stood out to me and near the end of my drink it was kinda milky. I've definitely had better ube matchas elsewhere. Not bad but definitely needs to be consumed quickly Other drinks: my friends noted the flavorings in their lattes did not come through but the drinks themselves were enjoyable. Longanisa Slider 3/5: comparing this to kasama's breakfast sandwich, this one was sweeter and the cheese on the sandwich doesn't add to the flavor - definitely recommend ordering their hash brown and adding it on for some texture Hashbrown 4.5/5: needs some salt but otherwise beautifully crispy and delicious Lumpia 5/5: solid lumpia and comes with sweet and sour sauce. So savory and perfectly crispy Longanisa Silog 3/5: garlic rice was lacking but the longanisa and fried egg were delicious. For 10.50, a good portion! i'll start off by saying the person at the register was very nice and patient with my various questions. however, that wasn't enough to earn a stellar review IMO. i so wanted to love this place. i'm all about supporting local, especially kababayan, but the spotlight is always the food and for me, the food was mid at best. i ordered the longanisa pan de slider but requested no cheese and light sauce. well, they honored my requests but forgot the longanisa! how was the main ingredient forgotten? i usually follow the "trust but verify" motto but i had a to-go order and was in a rush. i also ordered the lechon kawali rice bowl. i didn't want the lechon to get soggy on my drive home so i requested the sauce and pickled veggies on the side. the lechon pieces were tiny and under seasoned. definitely needed the accompaniments but i've had flavorful lechon from other places that could stand alone. maybe my expectations were too high but my hubby agreed and he's not necessarily a picky eater. i will say the lumpia was great. it's kinda hard to mess up lumpia shanghai. the kiddos ate them without issue. lastly, i ordered the iced coffee with pandan syrup and heavy cream and light ice. it was on the bitter side so the person was kinda to give me extra pumps of pandan to give it more sweetness. alas, it still was off. i'm going to finish it since it's a $5 coffee and i hate waste. read more

Came here for a quick coffee run in the morning before a workout with a friend because she kept talking about how amazing the drinks at Mano were, so I'm like let's go! I love the drink options here because they not also have your typical coffee options, but unique ones like the pandan latte in which not a ton of places have it. I do want to say that ube is becoming more and more popular so some coffee shops have it, but pandan is very rare. I knew I had to get the pandan latte seeing it on the menu and loved the taste! You can taste the shot of espresso that they put in there as well as a little sweetness in the pandan. I would definitely come back for drinks if I'm ever in the area because it was very good. Having just returned from a Hawaii trip a few days prior, I was desperately in search of something on the mainland in that similar category - and this Filipino-inspired cafe was the perfect fit. Stellarly beautiful Ube Latte (see pictured) that was equally as delicious and sweet. The Silog bowls were adorable - I got the Longanisa + Tocino Bacon bowl. Everything in it - from the soft yet crunchy rice base to the exquisitely tender longanisa sausage to the eggs/bacon to round it out - was just a wonderfully nostalgic blend that helped me pay some subtle homage to my recent trip. Plus it was walkable from my sisters place, had plenty of seating, reliable service, etc. Would go here again in a heartbeat! read more

One of our go to places for coffee. We need to time things right so we actually get food but because it's an "add on" to a foodie adventure we normally only get coffee and a mochi Twinkie. Coffee wise- I get the ube latte usually iced. Bae gets either ube or pandan. Both are good! My only wish is that they offered skim milk. Coffee shop is super cute. Not a lot of seating but enough. I came here I was visiting my in laws in Chicago. I really wanted Filipino breakfast since I'm half Filipino haha. I got ube latte which was pretty good. The ube flavor was light and had flavoring of roasted ube. I also got longanisa silog. I love longanisa it's a sweet sausage. The silog is combination of garlic fried rice with fried egg. It's incredible combination. I was very shocked how fast our food came out. It seemed liked 10mins right after ordering the food was ready. The ambiance is very peaceful and unique. I liked the colors of the green walls and specs of the culture from the Philippines such as jeepney model on the shelf. If you use the restroom you'll get kick of spam cans as decor and even Tabo. Had seen this little restaurant not far from where I work and thought it would be a great spot to try. (So glad I was right!) Walking up to the cafe it is a beautiful forest green (you cannot miss it). Stepping inside it is a smaller space for a cafe but it was not too busy. You go up some steps to order by the large orange coffee machine. They have a nice menu selection of different options. My friend and I went with the Silog- Longanisa (3pc) and an iced mango matcha.We can to the conclusion the portion was just right and the flavor was great we would add an extra fried egg next time to the Silog- Longanisa (3pc) since it tastes delicious with the egg yolk. Normally, I order a drink when I visit Mano Modern. I love the creative twists they take on classic drinks such as their ube chai or white rabbit latte. Like many, I have succumbed to the low sugar tolerance curse which thankfully isn't a problem here. While the drinks are sweet, I never worried about a potential toothache. Service is always quick, even on the weekends. Usually, I get my order in less than 10 minutes. If you're in a rush, you can also place your order in advance online via their website. Their space is fairly small, so noise should be expected. I have had luck in the afternoons and have been able to wrap up my assignments with little interruption or distractions. Overall, the cafe has a chill vibe and is one of my favorite coffee shops when I'm in the area. My go to drink is the pandan latte! I prefer iced drinks but think the heat is better at drawing out the flavors of the syrups they use. read more

Mano is a small and locally owned Filipino cafe located in the west town area. This establishment can seat about 20-30 people comfortably. There are a few outdoor seating spots as well. Tip: highly recommend going on an early Sunday AM since parking is free that day and street parking is plentiful. There are 2 ways to order - at their front counter or online. I ordered online and their system is user friendly and easy to navigate. I ordered an Ube chai latte with pistachio milk and it was delicious! This was my first time having pistachio milk as a milk sub and I enjoyed it. For food I tried the longansia and tocino bowl which came with a fried egg and rice. I'll probably pass on ordering food from here going forward, however I do appreciate that they offer food which makes it an easy 1 stop spot! The owner was there and he was hustling! It was great to see this place busy especially since they were only open for about an hour at that point. My first stop of my first visit to Chicago was Mano Modern Cafe. I'd been eyeing this place on Instagram ever since I started following Salamat Cookies, another Filipino small business based in Indy. The cafe itself is spacious, clean, and industrial. If I lived in the area, I would definitely make Mano Modern Cafe my go-to workspace. I ordered an iced ube latte, no adjustments. The latte was impressively ready in under 2 minutes and was delicately layered by the barista. I wish I took a picture of it before mixing the layers! I'm not one for sweet coffee drinks, so I was a bit worried that it would taste like a dessert without making any adjustments to the sweetness. I was pleasantly surprised that the drink didn't taste like candy. The espresso flavor was stronger than the ube syrup, which I prefer.
