My boyfriend and I moved to Lakeview in September 2025, and ever since then we've passed Kubo countless times, each time smelling the incredible aroma filling the neighborhood. We've said to ourselves over and over, we have to try Kubo! We finally decided to go in for lunch on a cold Sunday (3/22) and we had the most wonderful meal. The space was clean, welcoming, and lively with other diners. There's plenty of seating and although I usually highly dislike high top seating, their bar seating was incredibly comfortable. We ordered the chicken eggrolls and two orders of the chicken adobo. All of our food came out very fast, and we had very attentive service. March Madness is currently going on and was playing in the restaurant. We are basketball fans so this was a plus, and we were asked if the game that was currently on was our preferred game to watch, which was very thoughtful. The food was incredible. The eggrolls were incredibly flavorful and the chicken in the chicken adobo fell off the bone easily. The sauce on the chicken was delicious and it mixed so well with the garlic rice. We cannot wait to bring friends and family to this restaurant in the future. The hot food made us feel so whole on a cold and extremely windy day. Three of us without reservation were seated quickly. The wait person was friendly. I wish I would have gotten his name a great guy. We ordered drinks from a well stocked bar. We had the chicken lumpia, first which were long not like the normal finger length I'm used to. Lots of tender meat inside. Wow. Then had the lechon kawaii, deep fried sea bass and the pancit with rice noodles. We were knocked out by the presentation of the sea bass. Christine and Cemal own and operate this amazing Filipino spot on Belmont just west of Racine, and they make everyone who walks in the door feel like family. If you have never tried Lumpia, you're in for a treat. I also highly recommend the Longgnisa Burger but they also have amazing salads and lighter fare if you're vegetarian or just counting calories. Oh, and the Kamayan "Boodle Dining" is nothing short of a spectacle! But as I said they treat everyone as family and supporting the community matters to them. We sat on the outside patio which was really big and they had fans going so even on a humid night it was nice to be outside. Genuinely one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago!! Maybe I'm biased because I was really hungry and I naturally love Filipino food, but guys - oh my goodness!!!!! The pork rib adobo - that soy-vinegar sauce was so perfectly sticky and tangy, the ribs were admittedly a little dry, but that garlic rice made up for it. Soooo fragrant and umami and just ugh!! The veggies were also sautéed in garlic and a bit of fish paste - literally so addicting. The star of the show was the lechon sisig, which came out sizzling hot on a sizzling plate. The diced pork belly released such a nice addicting aroma that coated the rest of the dish with the oil. With that + the garlic rice - just so perfect. We couldn't stop saying "oh my gosh this is so good" after every single bite. Ended with the halo halo, a classic Filipino dessert! This is shaved ice topped with a variety of ingredients like sweet plantain, coconut strings, palm jelly, sweet potato, and ube ice cream. The light coating of condensed milk on top was also super addicting. Some shaved ice can feel flavorless after a while because it's straight ice, but this had an evaporated milk base which helps elevate that crushed ice. Stopped by for a quick lunch with my sister and we were initially worried at how empty the place was on a nice day (we were the only table there), however, we had such a great time. While we weren't quite impressed by the food itself, we were very happy with our drinks and how kind and attentive staff were. We ended up staying HOURS and while other restaurants try to kick you out after 2hrs, staff encouraged us to stay as long as we wanted (we were of course continuously ordering drinks and bites). My boyfriend and I went here on a whim during a weekday dinner. We were greeted by the friendly staff member and got to pick our table. We ordered the chicken adobo, kansi soup, and the longanisa burger. My boyfriend also ordered the San Miguel beer. We waited 20 minutes until the food came out. The kansi soup absolutely tasted like home, the way my mom cooks it. I loved the sourness and the meat is so tender and includes the bone marrow which was delicious. The chicken adobo had its own twist of flavor, which was still delicious. The lognanisa burger was a standard burger with the fixings and then added a longanisa sausage which was just fine, nothing too special. I would love to come back to try their Filipino cocktails that had calamansi in it and save more room for their dessert! The place had a cool vibe and we decided to try: - Chicken Eggrolls - Lechon Kawali - Pork Ribs Adobo - Calamansi Cream Brûlée The Eggrolls were delicious, flavorful and texturally pleasant. The two main courses were just ok. The Pork Ribs Adobo were a bit dry, the flavor of the adobo was great but I was expecting more of a fall off the bone experience but didn't get it. I was expecting more of the cool cream and glass like glaze of the cream brûlée but didn't get it. The Calamansi flavor was nice and came through. Overall it was good experience and plenty of people came in while we were there so definitely a neighborhood favorite but it was just ok for me. Try it if you're in the neighborhood! read more

Coming from Los Angeles where the Filipino cuisine culture has exploded, to my surprise, Kubo offers unique interpretations and flavors that blew my mind. First of all, the skinny egg rolls are like the length of Italian breadsticks...so convenient for dipping...genius! I loved my Pork Ribs Adobo. The meat practically fell off the bone. And the garlic rice and gravy! To die for. Everything was great! My daughter says the Halo Halo from Kubo is the best she's ever had. And she's a picky eater. I called in an order for takeout. The guys on the phone was friendly, and was quick on the phone. And food was ready before the promised time. I came on a Friday night and was really surprised to see this place completely empty. This place is huge. Perhaps too big for the amount of customers that are actually coming in. I was glad to have picked up my food and for it to be ready. I would just appreciate a thank you have a nice day as in heading out the door though. The Pancit Bihon and the Lechon Sisig were both good. They were greasy but both tasted very similar. They both had way too much red and green bell peppers. Both dishes had way too much crunch and hid the flavors of the noodles and the Lechon. Maybe they needed to be cooked longer to soften up, but after looking over their menu again, a lot of their dishes have the same bell peppers. This place definitely has potential. COME HUNGRY! I'M NOT KIDDING. There's been an influx of Filipino restaurants im Chicago, and I must say this is on our top 2 favorites. Yesterday we went to this restaurant and had their boodle kamayan feast. Please keep in mind you need to reserve this far in advance - at least 2 days. The boodle had so much variety and food in it that we ended up taking probably less than half home. But not like we're complaining. The wait as they assemble and put the stuff on the table was a great sight to see! I suggest going when there's not a lot of people so you can enjoy watching them put the food on the table. Finally got to try Kubo and was not disappointed! This restaurant is a great gateway for people to get hooked on Filipino food! Their most popular dish is the adobo ribs which is a MUST try. The meat is so tender and flavorful. Their lechon kawali was also crispy and crunchy! Christine (the owner) was so friendly and even told us that their adobo and lechon kawali takes hours to prep which explains why they tasted so good! I recommend the baked mussels, adobo ribs, and halo halo for dessert (which is HUGE btw!) don't forget to get calamansi juice to drink as well it's sooooo refreshing! I will have to drop by to try their drinks next time because they had a good selection! We came here on a Wednesday night around 7pm. We made reservations a few minutes in advance on Yelp but they would have taken us anyway. We decided on this spot bc we were in the area looking for a new sofa and I wanted Asian food with alcohol haha! Overall the place was good! Ate here last night. Made a reservation here based off reviews but I should have looked at the menu prior. They dont serve Sinigang (my personal favorite Filipino dish) which is a red flag. It is like going to a Chinese restaurant and they dont serve fried rice. Sinigang and Pancit are the two most popular entrees for Filipinos. This was my second time coming to Kubo, and it's definitely on my list of restaurants I'd return to! The first time I came here was for one of my girlfriends' birthdays, and we did the kamayan feast. It was a few years ago, so I don't remember every detail, but seeing the food laid out on the table like that and getting to eat in a communal hands-on (literally) way was something that I hope everyone gets to experience at least once! I made a reservation on a Saturday because I reallllllly wanted to try lechon kawali. I've tried making crispy pork belly at home, but I'm really not a master of frying (cue screaming when the oil splatters), and I knew this place would have it on the menu! We ordered the chicken lumpia as well as the longanisa burger. Chicken lumpia: Okay, so other reviews have said that it's not authentic because there's no pork, and it's obvious via responses from the owner that they are aware of this and the restaurant had to sacrifice some authenticity to cater to the neighborhood. I hope everyone gets to try pork lumpia as well, but I'm telling you...I've had both and the chicken ones here are SO GOOD. It wasn't overly greasy, and honestly the seasoning was still top notch. If you're a newbie to Filipino cuisine or even a seasoned foodie, this is a great place to start. Lechon kawali: I had no words. Was it heavy? Yes, it's pork belly, so of course it was heavy! Garlic rice on the side and the vegetables+vinegar sauce made for a perfect plate to balance out the fat and salt content. Another review mentioned that the rice to main ratio is perfect, and I have to say that I agree. I brought home leftovers, and when I finished it up, there was still just enough rice to pair with the meat. The pork belly was perfectly crisp, and super juicy. Definitely a must try for pork belly lovers. Longanisa burger: My boyfriend ordered this dish, and I got to try a bite and wasn't disappointed! A perfectly cooked egg with a sweet+savory patty on top of fluffy buttery bread. Also...they have the best kind of fries here too. I was shocked at how good they were. Reminiscent of duck fat fries I've had in the past, and even though we somehow had a few leftovers from those, they reheated perfectly crispy the next day (that's how you know a good fry from the bad!) They were generous in accommodating us arriving early for our reservation, and service was very friendly throughout the night. I also appreciated that she asked if we had a show to go to (a theater is near by, so I assume they wanted to make sure we wouldn't be late to an event if we had one! Very thoughtful and appreciated). My favorite part of leaving reviews is taking photos. I ate my food so fast, because the delicious smells emanating from everywhere around me had me ravenous, and I didn't get one photograph.... I'll save it for next time, and they can go ahead and get 5 stars all around! We started off with the lumpia, which came out in 4 pieces, but each piece was easily the size of 2-3 regularly sized lumpias. They were perfectly crisp and full of flavor. My husband had the chicken pancit and I had the adobo ribs. First, the pancit was really good and had that garlicky flavor I love. The ribs though..... These have to be some of the best ribs I've ever had. They had a great crunch when I bit into them, but they were also SO tender.... The sauce was soy & vinegar based, and I mixed it in with the garlic rice & veggies. I could not have been happier with my dish, I almost wanted to throw manners to the wind and lick my plate! Just kidding, but again, that sauce is addicting. I'll definitely be back, but I don't know if I can bring myself to order something else but these ribs. They also have them in an appetizer size, but I don't think that would be big enough for me. We finished off the meal with a crème brulee that was made with a citrus fruit that I had never tried, and I forgot the name of, but it was really delicious. My husband had a mezcal drink with raspberry that I ended up stealing and drinking 90% of. The staff was super nice, checked in on us multiple times, and when I was curious about the citrus they used in the dessert the bartender brought me a small glass to try. The parking that we found was street parking. We had to park about a block away on a Saturday night, but that was ok with me. My husband went from never having Filipino food before to insisting we look for it when we get back to Connecticut. Kubo caught my eye as I was browsing spots for our vacation and the picture of the Halo Halo caught my attention. The colorful placement looked like art to me and we had to come taste it. I'm so glad we did because it introduced us to Kubo. Husband got the Chicken Adobo, a solid classic dish for new comers to Filipino food to try. He devoured the whole thing. He loved the vegetables and doused the sauce with the signature garlic fried rice. I really enjoyed my Lechon Kawali and subbed out the garlic fried rice for white rice and added an egg. It made it a sort of breakfast effect on rice which is a classic I love. For us the star was the halo halo. It topped off our meal and we kept talking about Asian desserts as we slurped it down. We particularly loved the red and green pieces mixed together. The coconut flavors with chunks of sweet potato and ube really made the dessert shine. I'm still here thinking about it and wish we had this place in Connecticut so we can finish off our summer with Halo Halo every week. Not only is food good at Kubo, the service is friendly and welcoming. One of the owners came out and explained every dish. She even came and mixed our Halo Halo for us and told us the background on how she picked these Ingredients to mix. I also noticed both owners explaining Filipino cuisine and introducing it so people knew what to order and the stories behind what they're eating. That's phenomenal and made us very happy. We tried the Cevice. Beware it comes with mangoes and thick balsamic vinegar, which gives it a low sweetness. Otherwise it's excellent, but as is I don't like sweet cevice, even though we asked for and made sure the cevice was not sweet. My wife could eat it, I could not! Nice ambiance. Parking can be a problem! Server was nice but did not know the food he was serving! The adobo chicken was also sweet, even though I was told it was not!!!! Returned! Skirt stake was excellent, as was the beef shank stew. The creme bruelee would have been good if it was not layered with a 1/32 Th of an inch sugar crust coated with powered sugar. As our group of 4 arrived, a massive platter of Filipino delights were spread on the table, including fried pompano, lechon sisig, fried shrimp, longganisa sausage, pork ribs, crispy chicken inasal, pancit, garlic rice, and so much more. My personal favorites included the lechon sisig, fried pompano, pork ribs, and shrimp. It truly was a feast with a variety of delicious flavors, and we all left feeling incredibly satisfied and full. Everything is excellent! I have been at Kubo's for dinner and theater receptions. The food and cocktails are great! I highly recommend!!

For ambiance and service they deserve 5 stars!! I want to make clear I never tried Phillipino food! Based on prior reviews I decided to give it a try! I don't think I want to go again. Food wise tasty but did not really enjoyed Drinks were below average for location. However I think place is good if you are into that kind of food. read more
