    Cream and Berry?
    David M.

The first thing you need to know is that it's a line to get in. So be prepared. There is an online order option, but that can be a wait as well, however you get to skip the line. With that out the way let's review the food. I started with a pastry (because I had been waiting for an hour plus) I was going to get this cheesecake type. I asked my waitress what she liked and she mention this pastry that's basically has a cream spread and berry spread. So I ordered it. It was pretty good 4/5. Next I had the breakfast sandwich, it was good, but it's very much hyped, and I was not amazed. 4/5 I also took the chicken Adobe and the combo sandwich to go. The combo sandwich was very much OK. The beef was OK. But not great flavor, the longanisa sausage was good. It was smothered in giardinieria again OK 3/5. The chicken Adobe with rice was really tasty imo. Had a good gravy on the the chicken and it had a smoky taste. The rice seem fried, might have liked it more moist, not that it was hard. But this was the best thing I'd give it a 4.5/5. The pastry and chicken Adobe and rice would be the only thing i would order again.

Spontaneous visit to Kasama. I've never been here before because all I hear is how long the lines are and that I'll likely be standing in line for two hours so I've just avoided going. We were in the area on a Saturday and it was around 1:30pm, but there was still a small line outside. We debated whether or not to go, and after realizing they take online orders, we just did that so we did not have to wait in the line (which ended up being kind of pointless because there was basically no line around 2:15pm when we went to pick it up). They close at 3pm and their kitchen closes at 2pm, so we were unable to try any of their other food or dine-in. I'm sure their food is great and maybe their other bakery items are better, so I'd love to come back another time in the morning. Maybe I'll change this to a 5-star review. This time, I could only choose from whatever bakery items were left and their coffees, and their online ordering system was inaccurate. When placing my order online, there were things that said were sold out but weren't when I went to the store, and there was one thing that I ordered that ended up being sold out. The employees were kind enough to call us and also ask us when we got there if there's something else I wanted. I got the chocolate chip banana bread, but sort of wished I got something else instead because the banana bread was super average and nothing all that special about it. I guess it makes sense why it was one of the last things left. The iced lattes we got were really good! I love the unique flavor options they have. We tried the black sesame one (didn't taste super strong of black sesame) and the spiced white mocha with Sichuan peppercorn (a bit spicy but not bad). Both intimidated me at first, but they ended up being really tasty and not at all as strange as I was expecting.

Inside is small. I did online ordering of Pastries which was better solution. Even me ordering at 9:05am the pick up time i got was 11:45. Also no message came through when it was ready. When I went for pick up on the time food was ready long back. I made purchase through their partner toast. Vegetarian pastry review out of 5 Ube bisque- 5 Truffle crossiant - 2 - I did notnlike the taste hard to point exact dislike Chocolate raspberry woopie- 4

My friend recommend this place. I wanted to try while I was visiting Chicago. I was looking forward to it with all the good reviews I read. We went on a Saturday morning. We stood in line around 11am and got sat around 12:15pm. Seems like the long line is due to very small space inside, however once you order your food, it comes out quick. I ordered black sesame latte and their breakfast sandwich. My friend ordered the adobo. Both dishes were tasty and my latte was good. I would recommend coming here if you have time to wait in line. They seem to also take a lot of online orders as there were people coming and going to pick up their orders. If you're visiting, make time for at least 2 hours including wait. I'd definitely come back when I visit again.

Kasama was a must-stop on our Chicago trip. We got there at 8:45 on a Thursday morning and were second in line, so I would recommend going during the week instead of the weekends if you're able to. The viral breakfast sandwich was delicious and worth the stop, though I think it would be even better with a pepper jam or aioli on the side. The lumpia were super tasty, and the iced black sesame latte was top tier. The pastries were great too, especially the apple hand pie. I will dream about that thing. My fiancé wasn't a fan of the truffle croissant, but I really enjoyed it. Great service, ambiance, and food overall. I totally get the hype!

Decided to skip the long wait and grab takeout instead, which was a total win! Even though I was a few minutes late for pickup, the food was still delicious. I especially loved that they don't make the drinks until you arrive--it's such a thoughtful touch that keeps the quality high. The rice plate was my favorite over the sandwich, and the drinks were a 10/10 (perfectly sweetened!). The staff were so sweet and handled the rush with total grace. If you're planning a visit, definitely get there early to beat the 1-2 hour lines. I'm already eyeing the pastries for my next visit!

So all the bakery items lived up to the hype! Let's start with the matcha pandan eclair. Wow, the cream was soft and had such a light texture. It was sweet, and satisfying, with the rice crispy giving it that crunch. The apple hand pie was unreal. You could tell every ingredient used was fresh and high quality. Also, it had the type of flakey nature that elevates these sorts of pies. Ube And Huckleberry Basque Cake did not disappoint. The flavor is very unique and not something you've probably ever had but it's fantastic. Sweet and deep. The blueberry muffin top performs as its namesake, offering the best parts of the muffin.....the muffin top. The sprinkles of sugar gave it a crunchy nature, and the blueberries tasted great. Now for the ehh news which is that the breakfast sandwich is definitely overrated and a little pricey. It tasted like any other breakfast sandwich I've had, and was definitely a little dry. The sausage was okay, nothing worth noting. This sandwich single-handedly stopped the experience from being 5 stars. Still, I'm glad they had a pick up ordering system. Allowed me not to waste time in line for the short duration I was visiting Chicago. If you come here for breakfast and treats, I can highly recommend doing the takeout option and ordering ahead for pickup. If you have lots of time during your visit or live there, then definitely dine in cause the place looked super cool. All in all, the bakery items were worth it 10/10 times. Maybe the other breakfast stuff is good but I didn't get a chance to try it, so hopefully it is!

Ordered two breakfast sandwiches along with a selection of pastries for pickup. While the sandwiches were highly talked about, they didn't quite live up to the hype for me. The pastries, however, were the standout. I tried the foie gras danish, salmon danish, and the citrus poppy poundcake with jam and crème fraîche. Each one was well-executed and balanced. The maíz con leche and iced Manila fog were also great additions, and both drinks came out quickly. Service-wise, the hostess was friendly and welcoming, which made for a smooth pickup experience. Overall, while the sandwiches fell a bit short of expectations, the pastries and beverages more than made up for it. I'd definitely return to explore more of the menu next time I'm in Chicago.

Not one, but two Michelin stars; who wasn't triggered to try, right? Yep exactly what's in everyone's mind especially they offered more affordable coffee/bakery concept during the day time. We reached at 8.20am, 25mins before online pre-order's open, and there were already around 6 parties in front of us. Having the fear that what we wanted going out of stock, we even pre-ordered online to secure them LOL. Fortunately, they allowed us to have our orders for dining in. By the time we entered, there were probably already 30ish parties behind us. The space was gorgeous, combining classic and contemporary concept with greenery. Best option's to come with smaller party as you had more choices for seats including the counter ones. Obv we went for their favorites, starting from the Longanisa breakfast sandwich. That pork sausage was luscious, and stuffed together with cheese and super moist egg (almost like silken tofu!) making it a morning miracle! Hubby got the Filipino breakfast with garlic fried rice, longanisa, tocino (cured bbq pork), and sunny side up. Their bbq pork was splendid blend of sweet and savory flavors spoiling our palate. Certainly didn't miss the dessert as I had heard so many awesome reviews about it. Getting the popular Ube and Huckleberry basque cake, which was just equally delightful as the savory ones. So buttery, flawlessly crispy shell, and surprisingly tasty combo of sweet ube paired to refreshingly tangy huckleberry jam. Feeling curious about the specialty drink, we did get their Maiz con Leche; featuring espresso with sweet miso and corn. Tasted like latte with popcorn syrup for me, a fun creamy twist in my cup of joe.

    Longganisa sandwich
    Inna Y.

We ordered 2 longganisa sandwiches--one with hash brown, the other without, the ube latte and the oatmeal pie. All were delicious, but underwhelming, given the Michelin recognition. Service was efficient. They made my coffee when I arrived so the drink was fresh and hot. Place was packed. I honestly wouldn't choose to dine in.

The hype is REAL!! This place serves amazing food!! The breakfast sandwich was delicious- the longanisa was so flavorful and the texture of the egg tasted like a steamed egg, and the bun is so soft; never tasted anything like this. The rice plate was also so good- the garlic rice was perfect. The lumpia was so crunchy and the meat stuffing was so tasty. We ordered online for pickup to avoid waiting in the long line. There are a few benches for seating around the corner of the restaurant. I would definitely return to dine in or even try their dinner menu.

    Sam Q.

One of the best lunches I've ever had. The wait was about an hour but there was plenty of space at the bar (so they might need to manage the line more efficiently). I've had the breakfast sandwich before (which was excellent) but the it was my first time trying the other dishes and the pastries. The pastries were top tier and not too sweet. My favorite was definitely the bisket (although pricey at $95 and only available on weekends) but the lumpia and pork belly adobo were solid too! Highly recommend!

    Manila fog

Kasama is the first Filipino restaurant to earn a Michelin star and one of the best bakeries in the country, so I had high expectations. Came because people swear they have the best breakfast sandwich in Chicago. The longanisa sandwich with the added hashbrown was really good, just a little dry and missing some sauce for me. 8.5/10. Now the black truffle croissant... heavenlyyyy. 9/10. Crispy, flaky, loved the sugar crystals on top for that crunch. The truffle cream inside was the perfect sweet and salty combo. My only thing is it was a little too buttery for my personal taste. The black sesame latte was amazing. Perfect sweetness and the espresso was on point. 9.5/10. The Manila fog was okay. Flavor was fine but the texture threw me off. 6/10. We ordered online for pickup and checked in about 20 minutes early, fully expecting to wait, but they handed it to us within five minutes which was super nice. It was packed with a long line outside for dine in, so definitely plan ahead. Cant wait to try the tasting menu.

I've seen a couple of recent reviews saying they came by on a Tuesday but the website says they're not open that day. Can someone clarify? We are passing through Chicago Mon-Tuesday the end mo & was looking forward to picking some goodies up.

I'm assuming you're referring to their bakery/daytime service and not their reservation only dinner. Unless anything has changed, I don't believe they are open at all on mon/tues

Wondering what type of meat is in longganisa? Thanks

Most Filipino longganisa are made with pork, but a variety of it can also be made by chicken & beef

I plan to visit Kasama on Dec 5 Wednesday before I head out to the airport! what time should I be there with my luggage and all? lol…

I recommend you preorder your food online for pickup just in case there's a line for dining in. And there probably will be, especially depending on when your flight is. There's always an opportunity to add food to your order when picking up too

If you had to choose between breakfast or dinner, which would you choose? I know scoring dinner resos are a feat in itself, and ofc both are diff experiences. But visiting CHI and trying to figure out which one to do if we can get resos.

If you are able to get a reservation for dinner, do it! We chose the breakfast route. it was definitely worth it! Very delicious! Depending on the day the line is usually pretty long even 1 hour before opening!

Is this kid friendly? Do they have high chairs?

Is there a dress code at Kasama?

Nope! I went there right after bouldering with a friend and we were still in our climbing clothes. Everyone else was also in a wide assortment of clothing

Do you have to wait in long lines just to buy pastries?

    Yes

What's the recommended time to go on a weekend morning to get ahead of the line? I don't mind waiting, just wanna be in and eating right at 9!

If you want to be in and eating right when they open on a weekend, you should be there by 8am the LATEST. When I went at 7:00am on the dot I was the first in line, so probs 7-7:30am if you really wanna be first in line. 8:30am is too late in my… Read more

For the coffee drinks (lattes), do they have non-dairy milk? Almond or coconut milk?

    Yes!

Can you put the cheesecake and tart in the fridge to save for later or would it not taste as good and get soggy?

I actually left it on the counter and it was still good the next day for the tart.

Are kids allowed? My husband and I want to try this restaurant badly and plan to visit Chicago for this however childcare is an issue since we have a 6 year old

    Kids are allowed yes

Is there a dinner option where you can just order a La carte from the menu instead of participating in the 13 course tasting menu?

    Nope

How long can you expect to be seated for the 13 course tasting menu?

Not sure if you mean how long it takes to be seated at your table or how long you're going to be spending there but I will answer both! I was seated immediately upon arrival and I think we spent roughly 2.5 hours there :)

They accept solo diners for dinner and how far can reservations be made?

What is the price of the 13 course fine dining experience?

We went for a tasting for 2, got 3 drinks and a coffee and our total was $531 without tip.

    How is the parking situation?

Augusta is a mix of free and metered parking within immediate walking distance. The interior side streets off of Augusta are permit.

This is a fast casual spot so service was pretty fast. There is a decent amount of seating, most of which was surprisingly taken around 11am on a Thursday. For starters, they no longer have their rainbow cake! I was surprised to hear that considering how popular it's supposed to be. We got both banana lattes which were extremely sweet. It's basically dessert with a hint or caffeine. I'm a big fan of banana, so I actually liked this but I would've preferred half the sweetness. The Turkey Bacon & Egg Croissant was so good! A solid breakfast sandwich - the eggs were cooked perfectly, the turkey bacon was insanely crispy, and that sambal aioli was just what this needed. I highly recommend adding Avocado like I did for some freshness & creaminess since it's a heavy sandwich as is. The Cinnamon Roll was soft, moist, and not overly sweet. Overall, I really enjoyed this breakfast!

Definitely a spot I would come back to anytime I'm craving something sweet.

I finally had the time to sit down and share my full review, and I'm genuinely excited to talk…read moreabout our ongoing experience with Magnolia Bakery in Chicago. Our relationship with this place goes back several years, and at this point, visiting it has practically become a tradition for us, one that we look forward to every time we find ourselves in the city. Our love affair with Magnolia Bakery began the moment we tasted their famous banana pudding for the very first time. It's difficult to put into words just how unexpectedly delightful that first experience was. We'd heard great things about the bakery, of course, but nothing prepared us for how rich, comforting, and beautifully layered that pudding would be. It's the kind of dessert that immediately pulls you in, creamy, flavorful, nostalgic, and yet elevated in a way that keeps you thinking about it long after the last spoonful. From that point forward, Magnolia Bakery became an essential destination on every Chicago trip, almost like a ritual that we simply cannot skip. Our fondness for this place has grown so much that it has actually begun influencing our hotel choices. Whenever we plan a stay in Chicago, we deliberately look for accommodations that place us within convenient walking distance of the bakery. The surrounding area offers plenty of shopping and sightseeing opportunities, which makes staying nearby even more appealing. It's incredibly convenient to spend a morning or afternoon wandering around the neighborhood and then find ourselves naturally gravitating toward Magnolia Bakery for a delicious break. One of the things I appreciate most about this location is what you see the moment you step inside. The bakery has an open, inviting setup that allows customers to look directly into the baking area. For me, this is such a meaningful detail. Seeing the bakers at work, mixing, assembling, crafting everything by hand, reinforces the authenticity of the entire experience. It gives me confidence in the quality and freshness of what we're eating, and it creates a sense of connection to the craftsmanship behind every cake, pudding, and pastry. You can tell that things here are genuinely made from scratch, and that alone sets the tone for how special this place feels. The ambiance of the bakery is another reason we keep coming back. As a family, we love spaces that feel warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed, and Magnolia Bakery hits all of those marks. The interior décor has a charming, almost nostalgic aesthetic that creates a comforting mood the moment you walk in. Beyond that, there are several seating options available inside, which is perfect for us. After spending hours walking around the city, shopping, or sightseeing, being able to sit down, relax, and enjoy our treats becomes a much‑needed part of the day. Whether we're sharing different desserts, reviewing our shopping finds, or simply resting our feet, the space adds to the joy of the visit. The service style here is pretty straightforward, and honestly, that's something I genuinely appreciate. It's a typical bakery setup: you line up, scan through the display case filled with cakes, pastries, puddings, and seasonal items, make your selections, and pay right away. The simplicity of the process makes everything move smoothly. There's no rush, but there's also no confusion, just an easy, clean system that gets you from craving to enjoying your dessert in a matter of minutes. Although the line can sometimes get long, especially during peak hours or weekends, we have been lucky in that our visits almost always fall on weekdays. Because of that timing, we rarely encounter significant wait times. Even when the line does look a little long, it tends to move at a reasonable pace because of how efficiently the staff works. And honestly, even if we did have to wait, the smell of freshly baked goods and the anticipation of that first bite make the wait feel more than worth it. Overall, Magnolia Bakery has become one of those places that holds a special place in our hearts. It's not just about the banana pudding, though that will always be the star, it's about the atmosphere, the quality, the consistency, and the memories we associate with every visit. Each experience there adds something new to our affection for the place, which is why we continue returning again and again. We absolutely love this bakery, and we recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone visiting Chicago. Whether you're a dessert enthusiast, a banana pudding lover, or simply someone looking for a delightful spot to relax and treat yourself, Magnolia Bakery is an experience you shouldn't miss.

The chicken was crispy, the sauce had that classic rich flavor, and the melted cheese tied everything together just right. What I really appreciated was how consistent the quality was from end to end--no soggy spots, and the bread held up beautifully (which is key when you're dealing with something this massive). You can tell they know what they're doing when it comes to Italian bread and hearty sandwiches. I think they have patio seating available when the weather allows, which is a nice option, but it does get crowded. Calling ahead to order is definitely a smart move. There was a line out the door, which we didn't mind, but things became disorganized when staff asked everyone to move inside. It caused people to lose their place in line, and the ordering process felt very chaotic and rushed. Because it was so crowded, I didn't really get a chance to look at the bakery items and only ended up ordering a cookie and a cannoli. After ordering, we were asked to wait outside for our name to be called. It took about 15-20 minutes for two sandwiches, and the pickup process was also a bit hectic. The chicken parm sandwich was good, but the eggplant parm was underwhelming and had more breading than eggplant. Overall, for about $17.50 per sandwich, the experience didn't quite match the price for me.
