Got the The Good Eater, which comes with 3/4 lb Pastrami/ corned beef Reuben on multigrain bread. This sandwich was HUGE and honestly really solid. The meat was super tender, the mustard had great flavor, and the multigrain bread was toasted perfectly. The pastrami was definitely the better meat for me, but both were good. Only downside is the sandwich gets soggy over time, so you definitely wanna eat it fresh right away. Vibes were pretty normal casual deli vibes, nothing crazy. Service was nice though and the girl helping us was smiling the whole time which made the experience feel welcoming.

This is such a great local find in downtown Chicago - it's exactly what I expect a divey deli to look like. I got the 1/2 lb pastrami reuben on rye and it didn't disappoint. Family joint that has been a staple in the area for many years. Will definitely come back for breakfast bagels.

First of all, I loved that the guy that answered the phone taking my order connected that it was me coming to pick up my order. The line was pretty busy and I was outside for a little bit in the warm sun. It was my first time and felt like a good indicator of a tasty popular spot. I got the pastrami sandwich on a hoagie with lettuce and tomatoes. I also picked up the local Chicago chips which we are a huge fan of. It was a sandwich that hit the spot! We will definitely be back and excited for this place to be around as this building has had a few other business turnovers in the past.

This place has delicious sandwiches! Stopped by for a mid afternoon snack and it was great. We must have come at the perfect time because when we left there was a huge line. I love how they added cucumbers to the egg salad sandwich for a little crunch too. Plan to come back on the reg!

I came across Schneider Deli while on the search for a place that does a decent lox bagel. Based on the photos I was instantly hooked and needed to try the lox bagel. On the website it's listed as a fish bagel sandwich with the option to select nova, gravlax, or smoked whitefish salad. I recommend the bagel with nova smoked salmon. The lox bagel was priced on par for the River North area which means it was a little pricer. It's priced at $16 but it comes with a fair amount of the smoked salmon. I ended up being able to share half of the sandwich with my husband and still feel full afterwards. The restaurant is located conveniently on Lasalle and Ohio right next to the Ohio House Motel. The inside of the restaurant was sizable enough for a few tables of smaller parties of 4 (or less). The inside seems to be a mix of souvenir items, grocery shop, and restaurant. They have a lot of the classic jewish deli classics such as Dr. Brown's soda and loafs of challah. The lox bagel itself was just okay. I've had a ton of lox bagels throughout the city and it wasn't anything to phone home about. I do appreciate they give you a ton of smoked salmon so you can easily get two meals from your order. The next time I visit I'll try a different bagel to see if it has a little more flavor. The bagel mainly just needed a little rock salt to add flavor. Overall, the vibe was cool and I can see myself visiting again.

I don't usually stay in the River North area but I happened to be for a recent work trip. A quick Yelp search popped Schneider Deli onto my radar as I was looking for breakfast near the hotel. I was so excited to find that they had egg bagels- everything egg, but I'll take it! I ordered a breakfast sandwich on Toast -- with turkey sausage, cheddar and egg on an everything egg bagel. It was tasty and filling! Also, my order was ready when they said it would be. I also added 2 everything egg bagels because why not. They had some AMAZING sounding cream cheeses like Giardinera CC as well as a Toffee Apple CC?! Also, their sandos sound delish too! The space itself is fairly small with some counter/bar as well as table seating but it's SUPER charming.

Honestly a solid bagel and solid cream cheese. The egg everything bagel was a little thinner than I would've wanted, but it did taste good. The latkes were really great and honestly better than most ones I've had. Really small and cute shop though!

Amazing Lox bagel. Super flavorful. I like that they keep mustard on the tables, it added to the experience. Nice ambiance and good service, too. A bit pricey but they make their own meats.

Stellar! If you're looking for a good deli, this is it but be warned its a small spot so to go is definitely the way! We stopped in here to get some breakfast one morning and boy am I glad we did! I split with a friend their traditional lox bagel and then a bacon egg and cheese and it was like I was transported to New York. Packed sandwiches with tons of ingredients that were delicious!

Fish bagel (Lox)

This was my first time at Schneider Deli, and we stopped in because I was craving a bagel for breakfast and it was close to our hotel. It's a cute little hole-in-the-wall spot with just a few tables and some bar seating. The vibe is very authentic with an old-school deli feel, which I really loved. I ordered the traditional lox, which they call a "fish bagel," and it was so good I ate the entire thing. The flavors were spot-on and really hit the craving. The only downside was that there was way too much cream cheese. I ended up scraping off about half of it just to balance things out. My husband got a breakfast sandwich on a pretzel bagel. The sandwich itself was delicious, but the pretzel bagel was extremely salty--so much so that he couldn't really eat it as is. He tried scraping the salt off the top, but since it was baked in, it didn't help much. He ended up eating the sandwich without the top half of the bagel. Even with those small issues, I still really liked this place and would absolutely go back. Next time, I'll know to order less cream cheese, and we'll skip the pretzel bagel and stick with a classic bagel instead. The staff was friendly and energetic, which made the experience even better. A solid neighborhood deli with great bagels--just order wisely!

Very solid bagel spot!! I was visiting chicago and a friend recommended we check this place out for breakfast one day. It's very tiny inside so we took ours to go, just fyi. I split a lox bagel and a sausage egg and cheese bagel with a friend. The sausage egg and cheese was delicious but the lox was my favorite with how refreshing and savory it was! The bagels were perfectly made and really felt like New York style bagels. Overall, 10/10 recommendations!

Came for lunch on a Tuesday have been wanting to come here for a while was able to park in one of the parking lot spaces. Shared a pastrami sandwich on rye with my husband they were very sweet knew we were sharing so played each half for us. The pastrami was very good they have mustard on table for the sandwich. Also ordered bacon egg and cheese bagel sandwich. Service was quick.

I haven't been to the location but have had these bagels consistently for over 10 years. The texture and flavor of the bagel is everything a NY bagel is and should be. Fluffy on the inside, somewhat crispy on the outside, and oh so thiccccccccck! Their cream cheese?! Ugh! Don't skip on it, seriously everything about this place is perfect. My go to selection is the egg bagel with chive cream cheese. It's chef's kiss and hits the spot. EVERY.SINGLE.TIME!!!!

If you're expecting this to be interchangeable with the franchised bagel places that have spread…read moreacross the country, recalibrate now. This is not that. I've been going to New York Bagel & Bialy for over 50 years, and places like this operate on a different clock, a different standard, and frankly, a different philosophy of what a bagel is supposed to be. Timing matters. If you show up after about 8:00 AM, your odds of getting bagels at their absolute peak--still warm, properly textured, with that slight resistance on the outside and softness inside--go up significantly. Earlier can be hit or miss depending on the batch cycle, but once they're in stride, this place delivers. The essentials are all here and worth your time: poppy seed, sesame, everything, and especially the bialys. The bialys alone are reason enough to make the trip--properly done, with the right chew and depth of flavor that you simply won't find in mass-produced versions. Don't overcomplicate it. Grab a dozen. On your way home, stop and pick up a couple packages of Philadelphia Cream Cheese and some smoked salmon a jar of capers, a Bermuda onion--whether here or even from Walmart--and you've got a meal that outperforms most brunch menus at a fraction of the cost. This isn't trendy. It's not trying to be. It's something better: consistent, old-world, and still doing it the right way. If you're going to call something a bagel, the standard is not branding--it's process. That's why New York Bagel & Bialy on Touhy stands apart. They actually do it right: kettle-boiled first, then baked in rotating ovens. That single decision--boiling--changes the entire structure. It gelatinizes the outer starch layer, locks in density, and produces that thin, glossy crust with real chew. Without it, you don't have a bagel--you have bread with a hole. The rotating ovens matter too. They deliver even heat, which means you get the correct balance: a slight exterior crisp with a dense, elastic interior. No puffiness. No sponge. No collapse under toppings. That's the difference here. Most chains optimize for speed and shelf life, so they steam or shortcut the process. Many local shops land in the middle. This place doesn't compromise. If you care about what a bagel is supposed to be--not just what it's called--this is the benchmark in Chicago.

It's a simple idea, but it really works and makes the bagel stand out. The drip coffee, on the other hand, was just okay--nothing special and could be a lot better. The seasoning blend gives it a uniquely Chicago character that locals and visitors alike should appreciate.

Our server, Brenda, was hilarious and sassy in the best old style Chicago way possible. Even if the food had been poor we would have left smiling. I don't know what technique they do it get or keep so much topping on them, but it's a pleasure to have too much rather than not enough. They service beer here which makes it slightly unbreakfasty and their bagel sandwiches used baked eggs rather than griddled/flat topped or from a pan. Keeps them fluffy, but I prefer mine a little runnier. Service is very good, friendly, not rushed or fake hospitality. They cure their lox in house which to me feels more tender than other places, probably just a lower, longer heating or a gentler cure. Excellent schmear, a not heavy handed when scooping (respect the schream cuz). Prices are pretty good considering the care and love they put into the bagels (hand rolled, multiple proofs). They have crunch, chew, density, but air pockets. Chef/owners def put thought into the menu with flavors like zatar, dilly ranch deviled eggs. Dr. Browns sodas. Baclava cappuccinos. White fish on bagel chips, Bagel dog is such a simple combination of not just the everything bagel seasoning, but the dough as well. And the mustard pairs better than had they added schmear (sorry Seattle dogs, i'm not a fan, i only like my cream cheese in philadelphia sushi rolls, lol) . The pizza bagel needs more toppings like pepperoni, sausage becuase then it would eat like a normal size bagel bite. The challah bread on the rachel really is more well rounded than the reuben. It's something I've been recreating back home. Giard cream cheese, cmon ya'll are really hitting the nail on the head for a Chicago bagel shop. I guess that's why there are 3 locations now. The Haystack with apple butter works better than expected, but also works with a chive cream cheese sub, no ketchup needed (if you do go with the harissa ketchup from the yada yada). BEC with a side of salted tomato and harissa ketchup is amazing. If everything was 10% more like toppings wise this would be amazing, but they always seem to skimp on something whether it's the schmear, pickels, salad. I feel like i was haggling for my meal sometimes. Prices area little high for most items, but of great value for others. It's busy in the mornings, but lines move long and only once did I have to wait for a fresh batch of anything despite some large orders ahead of me. It's a 20 minute train ride, but worth it.
