WOW!! Schneider Deli has been on my radar for so long and it did not disappoint. If there's one thing I know, it is a good corn beef sandwich, and Schneider's Deli was no different. While we had originally gone there for bagel sandwiches, it was past noon and they were sold out (just means I have to go back now). The latkes were the perfect side that we ordered and the corn beef was so juicy. The sandwich practically melted in my mouth. It was consumed rather quickly and the perfect amount of sauerkraut and dressing. This location is small, but we were luckily able to get a table inside. I really want to like them so much more than I do. If there were a continuum from hipster deli (think Mile End) to traditional deli (Manny's, 2nd Avenue, etc) Schneider would on the hipster side of center. Two of us shared a half pound pastrami on rye with a side of hash browns. The rye was pretty decent but the pastrami was sliced far too thick and the meat was lean. That is not a good thing when it comes to pastrami and I attribute the lean meat to the deli catering to its hipster-ish audience. Although the flavor was decent, the sandwich was dry and difficult to eat. We disagreed on the generously sized pickle. One of us thought the flavor was just right, the other not so much. We both agreed on the hash browns. It's a no-go. They were well fried but entirely unseasoned. I understand the lack of schmaltz but there was no onion or salt or anything else. Waffle House has nothing to worry about. (IYKYK) Service was fast and polite. The space is tiny, but it works. I've been wanting to try out this cozy spot for some delicious deli grub, and we finally went on a Saturday morning. We were surprisingly able to get a seat at the bar with no line. First of all, I loved that the guy that answered the phone taking my order connected that it was me coming to pick up my order. The line was pretty busy and I was outside for a little bit in the warm sun. It was my first time and felt like a good indicator of a tasty popular spot. Was super excited to try this place, and finally came to pick up some bagels. The inside is very cute, old-school vibes, with a few small tables inside. It's located in a busy part of River North with minimal parking options but I do believe they have 1 or 2 parking spots in the parking lot they share with the motel. It gets pretty busy on the weekend so I'd recommend going early or be prepared for a line. Ordered online the night before to take to a friend's for brunch. When I arrived to pick up my order, disappointingly, I was told that part of my order wasn't available because they hadn't been set aside in the morning. They offered to replace it with a different flavor and add a free schmear, but I'll admit I was super annoyed. I ended up getting some everything bagels to make some lox sandwiches with. Unfortunately the bagels were very mediocre (a step or 2 above a store bought bagel). I like my bagels chewy and moist, but these were dry and too fluffy for my taste. And weirdly enough, they were salty yet didn't have a very strong everything bagel flavor. To be fair, Chicago is severely lacking in good bagels, so not sure if I should fault Schneider's for that, or wherever they source their bagels from. I came across Schneider Deli while on the search for a place that does a decent lox bagel. Based on the photos I was instantly hooked and needed to try the lox bagel. On the website it's listed as a fish bagel sandwich with the option to select nova, gravlax, or smoked whitefish salad. I recommend the bagel with nova smoked salmon. The lox bagel was priced on par for the River North area which means it was a little pricer. It's priced at $16 but it comes with a fair amount of the smoked salmon. I ended up being able to share half of the sandwich with my husband and still feel full afterwards. The restaurant is located conveniently on Lasalle and Ohio right next to the Ohio House Motel. The inside of the restaurant was sizable enough for a few tables of smaller parties of 4 (or less). The inside seems to be a mix of souvenir items, grocery shop, and restaurant. They have a lot of the classic jewish deli classics such as Dr. Brown's soda and loafs of challah. The lox bagel itself was just okay. I've had a ton of lox bagels throughout the city and it wasn't anything to phone home about. I do appreciate they give you a ton of smoked salmon so you can easily get two meals from your order. The next time I visit I'll try a different bagel to see if it has a little more flavor. The bagel mainly just needed a little rock salt to add flavor. We came to Chicago for a trip and wanted to try this place for breakfast. Needless to say, we came here two more times during our trip because the food was delicious. There may be a line on the weekend, but the service is really quick. A lot of people order to-go, so despite there not being much seating, we did not have trouble finding a place to sit, even when it seemed packed. I was able to try their lox & fish sandwich (a must), their Matzah ball soup, and their pastrami sandwich (also a must). Their lox & fish sandwich had plenty of fish and cream cheese. There was no skimping on any of the ingredients. I do not consider myself a very meat-forward person, but the pastrami sandwich was really good after I tried it from my family and ordered it for myself at my next visit. Everything was so fresh, and the food quality was excellent. The portion is enough to have you filled (except for the Matzah ball soup). I don't usually stay in the River North area but I happened to be for a recent work trip. A quick Yelp search popped Schneider Deli onto my radar as I was looking for breakfast near the hotel. I was so excited to find that they had egg bagels- everything egg, but I'll take it! I ordered a breakfast sandwich on Toast -- with turkey sausage, cheddar and egg on an everything egg bagel. This was my first time at Schneider Deli, and we stopped in because I was craving a bagel for breakfast and it was close to our hotel. It's a cute little hole-in-the-wall spot with just a few tables and some bar seating. The vibe is very authentic with an old-school deli feel, which I really loved. The sandwich itself was delicious, but the pretzel bagel was extremely salty--so much so that he couldn't really eat it as is. GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE! When I come back to Chicago the first thing I want to eat here is the pastrami sandwich. It was so delicious that it's the best pastrami I've ever had.
