This is my absolute most favorite bakery. So this is my ode to the bakery and Dom, who is a gem of an employee there. I've been a customer of almost 10 years and have been obsessed since they first opened their doors at a different location. I literally live an hour away without traffic and even longer with traffic, but I make sure to stop by or send someone else to get it for me at least once a month or more. I love the amazing cakes that are so delicious and unique but on top of that, it is Asian owned, LGBTQ supporting, etc. A lot has changed since their little storefront with no seating. The bakery is now a full on cafe and I'm so happy to see how much they've grown and how successful they are. And while it is glorious, I will say I miss the sweet neighborhood charm and great customer service it used to have. Getting in touch with the bakery through phone or text can be tough and to be honest, sometimes one of the people working there is kind of...very mean. It had me questioning if I should keep coming back. I just love this bakery so much though and being raised by parents that had a small food business, I can't help but want to support. I had a particularly difficult last minute request for the bakery a few weeks ago and I was reminded why this place is so great. It had been YEARS since I made this specific request, which was an order for a slice of cake for every flavor and a cupcake for every flavor. This is a BIG and time consuming request, especially if it's last minute. Unfortunately I come to the city whenever the traffic isn't atrocious, so it's always last minute. Dom absolutely pulled through though. Even though there were other employees there (I saw two others but one disappeared and then another male was kind of walking around the cafe and such), Dom took this giant request and fulfilled it himself. The other gentleman (not the mean person previously mentioned) was actually who I made the request to, but he told Dom to do it. I was kind of confused why they didn't do it together but idk, maybe the other guy isn't allowed to handle food? Who knows. Regardless, this request obviously took a long time and the line was getting longer; people were getting a little restless but Dom stayed calm but was swift. I swear he was moving faster than most people in the industry could with a cake knife like that. He was not impatient or rude to me at all. He was just there to do his job as fast and well as possible. It's so rare to see that type of work ethic. He is also so obviously proud of the bakery and the food they serve which makes you feel good about being a patron there. So although I continue to have an unpleasant experience with one particular employee there, Dom keeps my love for this bakery alive. He reminds me of what this bakery was like when they first opened their doors. I hope Dom is cherished there and I bet he is considering his work ethic. I will continue to support this bakery and I recommend everyone else to support as well. It may not be that small little shop anymore but Dom is a reminder of the heart of the place. read more

I've been to Jennivee's twice now and I also got my college graduation cake from here last year for pick-up! They did a beautiful job. For my graduation cake, I chose the tres leches and it was so creamy, moist, and delicious. I basically ate half of the cake by myself lol. This most recent time, I needed a snack and wanted something sweet. Everything here looks amazing and I'm sure tastes amazing too, so it's hard to choose. I chose to get the berry chantilly cake slice since it was a hot day, and it was the perfect refreshing treat! It was soooo good. read more

If you have a sweet tooth, you've got to treat yourself to a cupcake from Jennivee's! A friend and I came here for an afternoon pick-me-up and it did not disappoint. We got two cupcakes to share -- the purple velvet and the main squeeze. The purple velvet is ube butter cake, ube mousse, and ube cake crumbs. The ube flavor is both sweet and nutty and the mousse topping was light and delicious. The main squeeze is lemon cake filled with lemon curd, cream cheese frosting, and a buttercream lemon on top. Both were incredible, but my favorite was the lemon! I loved that the lemon flavor was light, and the cream cheese frosting balanced it out really nicely. The space is so cute inside! It's also a lot larger than I was expecting. We grabbed a seat at one of the tables inside to enjoy our treats. I will definitely be back with my toddler for a cupcake date soon! read more

This bakery and cafe is so cute! The cakes, pastries, cupcakes and gelato were all mouthwatering. It was before lunch when we stopped in for coffee. We were just going to grab and go, but once we stepped inside, we couldn't pull ourselves away. The cafe is so inviting. We had a blueberry muffin which was amazing and a chocolate croissant. I was in the area and was excited to stop by Jennivee's new location. This new location is huge compared to the old one. The bakery case had me drooling - so many options from cupcakes, to cakes by the slice, to beautiful cakes ready to go if you need a cake for an event or party! This is the place you want to go to grab one. They also had a few other baked goods like a scone, muffins, cookies and I forget what else :) and they have a toooonnnnn of seating, so this would be a great spot to catch up with a friend - with a tea or coffee! They have coffee drinks too. I was here to treat myself and am a sucker for cake by the slice. It's not always the easiest thing to find tbh, so I loved that they had so many options. First I got the strawberry cheesecake - it's alternating layers of strawberry cake and cheesecake - and very yummy. I found the cake to be a tiny bit dry, but maybe it was just because the cheesecake was SO yummy, I wanted more of that one! The other slice was a chocolate chip cookie cake - but unfortunately it was completely dried out after 1 day, even in the fridge, and even when I tried letting it warm up a bit on the counter (still in the box they served it in). I felt so spoiled for choice. Everything looked so good and you have to make sure to look at both the top and bottom trays to make sure you didn't miss any cupcake flavors. Service was nice. It's so beautiful inside!! I stopped in today for breakfast before a haircut nearby. And I am so glad I finally was able to try this place. I'm be walked by the old locations a few times and never actually went inside. Today I ordered an ube latte, a ube cupcake, a coconut and ube bar, and a bacon and egg croissant. Everything was so yummy. I had the croissant for breakfast along with the latte. And then shared the cupcake and ube bar with my family later in the day. The decor inside it so well done and there is so much space inside. Lots of tables and chairs. I interacted with two of the staff members and they were so nice and kind. Very welcoming. I love this bakery. Their space is so open with a lot of tables and cute decor. The display of cupcake, cakes, and icecream is gorgeous and they even have some fun coffee options you can try. I tried the lemon cupcake and purple velvet cupcake. Both were fluffy and not too sweet. My favorite was the lemon cupcake, it had just the right amount of lemon flavors in it. I have ordered several cakes & cupcakes from the other location, which is now closed. We've been tasting everything on the menu and have enjoyed it all, and it's all been in slow up and down. I preordered a cake for my wife's birthday at the new location (did not go there before) and it was a little disappointed as it was not much cake as frosting. There are other people who have posted pictures of cake slices and the Buko Pandan look normal to me, as well as the ratio of cake to frosting on those looks. read more

Stopped into this place as the bakery we planned on going to was closed. We wanted some sweets to end our evening. My husband left the selection up to me. So I grabbed carrot cake and red velvet for him. For me I grabbed main squeeze (lemon bar cupcake) and bad-n-bojee (chocolate and raspberry). The service was prompt and the flavor of cupcakes unique. There are so many choices you can pick from hazelnut, chocolate, berries, and ube, but I always love getting their ube and mango cupcakes. What a cute shop in the heart of Lakeview when you need a sweet treat! This bakery has popped up on my radar for quite some time and I decided it was time to give it a try. I was thoroughly impressed with the variety of treats available in the middle of the day. This is a place you could catch up with a friend in such a unique atmosphere that's styled from the 80s. Service was quick and the owner came out to greet people. There's street parking and public transit options. When it came to the treats, I decided to try some croissants and PHEW they were just the right amount of flaky, not too doughy, and wonderfully buttery. I went with a slice of cake that wound up being four pieces for me. The cake was wonderfully moist and the cream cheese frosting was on point. I'll definitely be back for some cupcakes and other cake flavors, along with the croissants. One of those times where you can't go wrong with any option! read more

Have to update my original review since they've since switched locations and wow this new one is so cute! Plenty of inside seating and love the way they decorated the interior. I happened to be nearby so swung in and decided on the orange creamsicle cupcake because I've never seen one before. In hindsight, probably not my flavor - more geared towards kids but I appreciate how many options they have ranging from cookies to cake slices and a whole drink menu too. The cupcake was really nicely packaged so that it didn't get ruined in transit. Still a 3.5 overall rating because I haven't found a baked item I love yet but that doesn't mean I won't keep trying :) read more

Jennivee's Bakery was formerly located on Sheffield, but it has been in its current location on Halsted for nearly a year now. I finally made it here the other day to pick up some goodies, and though I did not dine in I noticed the cute and spacious interior. The mango cream cake is quite yummy, a sweet and creamy slice of cake indeed but fairly light and airy too. The almond croissant was excellent, flaky but not overly sweet. I need to make a return visit soon to get some more delicious treats. read more

#9 for 2025 After dinner with some friends, they brought me to Jennivee's knowing full well how i love the Filipino desserts. The place is brightly lit easily seen from the street. Love the concrete ramp to get up to the elevated entrance. it builds up your anticipation that you are coming to some place special. Interesting to see gelato in a Filo bakery. The flavors tonight were rocky road, strawberry crunch, vanilla bean and blueberry lemonade. All sounded good but not what i was looking for this evening. Love the names for the cakes too like Berry Chantilly, Scarlette Cheesecake and Southern Great Cheesecake. it's the Purple Velvet that you want from here, their signature ube cake I hear is to die for. Too full from dinner, we tried a couple of their smaller offerings. The San Rival and Snowbelle. Both were good especially the San Rival. There is coffee too. A nice pairing with these beautiful and delicious desserts. I also brought back with me 3 ensamadas; regular, ube and porvolone to share with my business partners. We cut each one into 3pcs so we could each try them. All were so good and delicious. i know now i need to go back. There are many tables to sit at with friends for nice chit chats. And a few big tables for larger groups. Place is very clean, and with everything white it will be easy to notice if not. I have loved and craved Jennivee's since I first heard about it years ago. The new cafe is a welcome upgrade. The space is bigger and the location has easier parking. I don't live in Chicago anymore, but I usually stop by to get a cupcake and whatever cookies and bars they have to take home. Today my friend and I went in and had muffins and coffee in addition to a big haul to take home. I also got 2 slices to take to my family in Joliet. 5, 7, and 9 yr old kids were gobbling up the purple velvet and mango mousse cakes, and they said they liked them more than chocolate! I tell everyone who asks where to go in Chicago not to miss this place. read more

My friends and I love surprising each other with Jennivee's for special occasions and each bite is simply joyous. My favorite flavor, pandan, is naturally subtle and can be difficult to pull off, but Jennivee's absolutely delivers the pandan cake of my dreams! The ube cake is stunning and vibrantly flavored, but not overwhelming sweet. The carrot, vanilla dulce, and strawberry flavors are also spot-on. You can order custom cakes and cupcakes online (min. 3 days ahead of pick-up time) or visit one of their two locations in Lakeview East for quick dessert. Love Jennivee just as the next person! So yummy & tasty. Glad they were able to secure a new spot where they revamp it with actual seatings compared to their old spot. Everything I had so far has been delicious and true to its flavor. I prefer their cakes over cupcakes because I personally feel like it's more moist compared to their cupcakes. But the last set of cupcakes I had was actually pretty good. Only down fall is the parking situation. It's so rough finding a parking spot in that area in general. I didn't even know Jenivee's had a new location! Just got done with my doctors appointment across the street and had a couple hours to kill before I was expected at work. Googled coffee shops nearby and Jennivee's was literally on the corner. I've always loved their cupcakes and now they have coffee?! Sold!! The new location is so pretty! I love the decorations of the new cafe, very modern and chic! Very spacious now too with several little tables to sit down and enjoy your coffee along with your dessert/pastry. It wasn't busy when I got there around 9am on a Thursday morning. There was one woman working behind the counter who took your order and made your coffee. Waited about 5 minutes for my Ube latte and my ube ensaymada and was able to enjoy my meal while I looked at the very aesthetic cafe. The ube latte was warm and comforting, especially on a cold and blustery morning. The ensaymada had a nostalgic feel with the sugar and melted cheese on top along with the uber flavor. Jennivee's has just gotten sweeter with the opening of a second location, and it's everything I hoped for and more! As expected, the cakes are stunning--moist, flavorful, and decorated to perfection. Their signature cupcakes are still showstoppers. This location also has ice cream for some of their signature flavors like brooklyn blackout. These cakes are delicious! There's a lush, colorful array of cakes and cupcakes of chocolate, citrus and other creative varieties in the display case. The featured flavor is ube, the purple root vegetable with a Filipino edge, so that color is a highlight. Besides that, my friends enjoyed the Irish creme layer cake, which was delicious. My pistachio noir (great name!) cupcake was moist chocolate cake with a beautiful green frosting with pistachio nuts. A great flavor combination anytime! Great bakery cafe! read more

Jennivee's new space is glorious! There's so much room if you want to eat in. We got a half dozen cupcakes, 2 cake slices and a cookie. The cake kept all week! Brooklyn Blackout was very chocolaty and the coconut was true to taste, and didn't taste artificial with coconut extract. I loved the bad and boujee cupcake the best! I got a slice of the purple velvet and a cup of the drip coffee. Both were very good. The purple velvet was just the right amount of sweet, and it was so soft. This place is a great place to do some work, but it's not really set up for a bunch of laptops. There aren't that many outlets. It's a great place to catch up with friends and try out different slices though :) read more

STALE CUPCAKES FOR VALENTINE'S DAY. VERY STALE... I live down the street in Lincoln Park and I decided to go there on Valentine's Day and I couldn't believe how hard my carrot cupcake was. The flavor was very decent but the cupcake was very hard and I love cake and I love cupcakes and I have to say this was the hardest cupcake that I've ever eaten I left your voicemail on message. Nobody returned my call. Someone later told me to email a particular email address and I did this and nobody responded. I don't think anybody gives a damn. Humility is the key to a great business. I bought a cake for one of my parents' birthdays and everyone loved it! Stopped in recently to pick up cupcakes for my birthday celebration. I purchased six - purple velvet, tres leches, brooklyn blackout, black'n white, and main squeeze (lemon). Everyone again, loved them! I personally tried five out of the six cupcakes. I liked the black'n white one best - chocolate cake, vanilla swiss buttercream and dark chocolate shavings but I don't think you can wrong with any of them. The purple velvet was a bit mild, I expected to taste more of the ube flavor but still tasted good. I will be back at Jennivee's for the next birthday celebration! read more

Was disappointed to find out they didn't have the ferrero cake when we went there today. Tried their Guinness fudge cake and baileys Irish cream cake today...WOW. If you like chocolate, especially on the dark side, you can't go wrong with either one. The fudge was a bit too packed for me and more fudgy than cakey whereas the baileys was moist and light. I had heard so much about this place. So when I was passing by and there was an open parking spot, I thought tis the time to spot by. Lived that there was a concrete ramp to the door for accessibility. They had a cute seating area with plenty of tables. It felt like a space that a little girl would love with the chandelier, pink and frills. There wasn't many people there so I was quickly helped. In deciding between the Lil Gent (carrot cake) cupcake and the raspberry pistachio, the latter was recommended. It was the prettier of the two so why not. I enjoyed the raspberry pistachio cupcake. Given the height, I used a fork to be able to get both cake and the mousse at the same time. The cake by itself was okay; not too dense, but also not a pronounced flavor profile. As a buttercream or cream cheese frosting girl, I was surprised at how much I liked the mousse. The cake, raspberry mousse and crushed pistachios paired well in a bite. read more

I recently had a cake made by them for my birthday, and it was SOOOO GOOD! The decorations came out great, and everyone at my party loved the Chobeh Cheesecake Cake (which is chocolate and ube) a flavor combination I didn't know I needed in my life. Yum! Excellent cupcakes! If you like Pandan you must try their Pandan cupcakes! The cake itself is Pandan with It fresh slices of coconut in the center and Pandan mousse on top with a toasted coconut garnish. Not too sweet, moist with a little chew in the center thanks to the coconut. Nice vibe. Decor is a sort of old school soda fountain chic. Music is at the right level. And the people working behind the counter are seriously adorable! Gave it an extra half star because of them. There's really nothing NOT to like about the place.
