I'm edging Floriole up to a full five stars after my lovely breakfast here today. Today, I came for their excellent house sourdough loaf and decided to stay for a coffee and pastry (yes, despite previously having said I'd skip the coffee). Seeing an earl grey latte on their specials menu, I could not resist. I paired it with a citrus morning bun, chose a table in the back, and had a short wait for my order from a nicely cheery barista. Note: I've always found the staff here to be friendly and cheery, making it the happy place a bakery should be. The iced earl grey latte and morning bun were the perfect spring breakfast combination. The house earl grey syrup was nicely pungent without being very sweet or overpowering the espresso. I thought it was a well balanced drink. It paired excellently with the citrus and caramelized sugar in the flaky and crispy morning bun. I enjoyed them both at a comfortable little table which, like the others around it, had a bud vase with fresh flowers. Such a welcoming touch. Make no mistake, Floriole is expensive. But it probably wouldn't be nearly as excellent if it wasn't. I know whenever I come here that I will enjoy it and feel it was worth the splurge. I almost forgot the bread! Sliced on the spot, the house sourdough is a huge loaf that is legit: the right level of sour with a chewy exterior and great crumb. The best I've had to date in the city. read more

Dropped by on Friday right before 9 and the place was pretty packed - a testament to the quality of the bakery. We tried the leek/gruyere quiche, almond croissant, peach shortcake, and plum hojicha cornmeal cake. The quiche was super custardy with a great crust, very unlike other quiche (in a good way). We came in for a relaxed morning coffee and crossword. The bakery options are a lot more geared towards sweet than savory - so we got the quiche. The drip coffee was priced ($4.50) almost like a barista-prepared drink. What was odd is the attitude of the person behind the counter. When I asked whether they have the ability to warm up the quiche - her curt and sarcastic response was "we know all that"..!? It was nice to view the actual work of baking goods happening in the back. They use organic flour. There is no service to the table and you bus your own dishes after. 10 STARS I bought a whole quiche for a brunch I was having for 8 people. Outstanding. First of all I think it weighed 10lbs. The quiche was 4 inches high thick with ingredients so delicious. Floriole has been on my list to try for a very long time. I had a friend flying in from Los Angeles for a couple days in the city to see a concert with me and knew we had to have Floriole on the agenda. The cafe sits in the Lincoln Park neighborhood and has a beautiful store front. There are huge windows that create the most gorgeous natural light inside the cafe, creating the warmest and coziest environment. There are a couple of shelves with some souvenir type goodies for sale, and a refrigerated cooler with some grab 'n go type options as well. The counter where you order is large and has a stunning display behind glass of available pastries and sandwiches. Their menu does change so there are often new options to choose from for your treat. The staff that took our order at the counter was kind and patient while we ordered for the first time. I obviously had to try the breakfast sandwich as a long time listener, first time caller. It comes on the flakiest, butteriest croissant I've had this side of Paris, with eggs that are so light and airy they almost feel souffled. The best part and what makes it so unique and delicious is the tomato jam they upgrade the sandwich with, it's rich and acidic and tangy and just *chef's kiss*. I also had an iced green tea which was refreshing and light, and tasted freshly brewed. My friend ordered breakfast as well and a coffee, and she highly enjoyed both. Floriole has a menu that makes me wish I could just endlessly order food and enjoy it all without any limits on feeling full. There is no bad choice here and you can tell how much care and love and respect goes into every pastry they make. Floriole is a beautiful pastry shop located just down the street from Trebes Park. The interior is stunning and the pastries are wonderful. However, either order ahead or show up early as there is a long wait time. We made sure to stop by about 2 hours before going to a workout class and it took about 45 minutes for two lattes and two pastries to be ready after waiting in line. I can't fault them for being a victim of their own success. I would say it's worth the wait if you don't have anywhere to be as it was one of the most delicate and buttery croissants I've had in the city. The Salted Tahini Caramel Latte was fine, it was decent coffee but didn't necessarily wow me with its flavor. They have a few seats near the entrance and a pretty big open space upstairs. The various coffee drinks were excellent and the baked goods were superb. My only complaint was with the pricing. We pay a premium for quality in Chicago. New York, LA and other major cities, with more expensive real estate, have found a way to charge less for food and drink. So, this was a little shocking. We need to do better. Cute cafe & bakery in west Lincoln park! The main thing that sets Floriole apart is the amount of interior space. For a cafe, there is so much great seating downstairs, upstairs, and outside (it looked like they have a small rooftop porch in the summer as well as seating outside the storefront!). 8 of us were able to sit comfortably at the large table upstairs. I offered a cold brew and a chocolate croissant. The croissant was flaky, light, and flavorful but I wish it had more chocolate. They had a nice variety of other tarts and breads too. My friends got a variety of things and everything was enjoyed. I'd like to come back and try other things here! Glad to have finally paid Floriole a visit after many recommendations! With so many interesting flavors of pastries, it was hard to decide on just a couple. The seasonal apricot rosemary scone and the raspberry rye cookie particularly caught my eye. Although an intriguing flavor combination, I felt that the rosemary overpowered the apricot and brought too much of a savory profile to an otherwise sweet pastry. I loved how the thumbprint cookie's dough was delicately infused with raspberry, but I was not sold on the large chunks of sea salt on top. The interior is charming and staff was extremely friendly and patient. Overall, Floriole offers high quality pastries and I would recommend giving the shop a visit. This neighborhood bakery is one of my favorites. It's a European style, a lil French-ish, lovely bakery that offers all sorts of yummy baked goods and coffee. Anytime I get an email from them saying they have pavlovas, I make it a point to put in an online order with a pavlova, a sourdough loaf, and any other goodies they have that day. I've never seen any other bakeries in the city that sells pavlovas and they're my ultimate favorite baked treat so I can't say no! The ones they bake here at Floriole are AMAZING. Today, I also got a red bell pepper and gruyere quiche slice and it was so creamy and yummy. Ever since the pandemic, I've been doing online preorders for pickup and it's been so convenient. I know they do have indoor seating downstairs and upstairs as well, but I'm usually a quick pick up and go type of customer. The interior of the bakery is clean and airy, I would love to stop in for a solo lunch one day. The ppl who work here are all pleasant and friendly.
