The vibes were cool and super casual. It's a relaxed spot with a unique menu you don't see at most cafes. The Tary sweets were really hit or miss. Some of them were actually great, while others just weren't for me. The latte used a dark roast that was too bitter for my taste. They add sweet cheese on top which helped a little, but overall I still didn't love the drink. The chicken noodle soup came with a pastry on top which was a cool touch, but the soup itself was pretty bland.

Got a delicious tary cappuccino, which came with a little cookie! Fast service and the ambiance was lovely!

Decided to give this place a second chance, and it was great. For coffee, I had the basic mocha latte. The mocha flavor wasn't very strong, but the coffee overall was great, nice foam and mildly sweet. The food was a game changer this time. Cinnamon roll was great. A perfect balance of cinnamon flavor and not overly sweet. The irimshik on top was a great addition, it was so smooth, creamy, and delicious, on the sweeter side. Cottage cheese pancakes were so good. They were a little crispy and stuffed with cottage cheese, and the sweet irimshik dip served as the perfect creamy layer. Qattama was average. It was crispy, alright, but overall felt okayish. The irimshik that came with it was a little sour, which didn't go well with the pastry. Nan salma, a pasta dish, was the highlight! It is made with tary, which is a type of grain. It was a white sauce pasta and tasted so delicious. The flavor of tary was strong, which made it even better. Add a little salt and pepper, and you have the perfect pasta! The service is a bit slow, but the ambiance is cozy

Like many New York foodies, I've spent my fair share of time exploring the varied Central Asian cuisines on offer across South Brooklyn. But it took a visit to Chicago for me to have my first proper interaction with Kazakh cooking. At this beautiful space in River North, Tary is serving up a narrow, daytime-oriented menu of otherwise hard-to-find Kazakh items. During my early morning visit, I sampled the cottage cheese pancakes, which seemed to be a regional take on syrniki. The texture was almost like blintzes, with a discernible filling of cottage cheese encased by crepe, offered with clotted cream on the side. Note that service is a bit leisurely, so make sure you allot a bit more time than I did if you want to get the most out of your visit.

TARY was a really unique coffee shop experience. The only US location, this cafe lets you try favorites from Kazakhstan and a subtly stunning visual design. To start, I got their signature Latte Irimshik. The base latte was a standard latte that came with a speciality dairy cheese you can eat by itself or sprinkle into the latte. It is definitely worth trying. I enjoyed it best with the Irimshik sprinkled adding a subtle sweetness. As a sweet treat, I ordered the cottage cheese pancakes. They were dense and delicious with a decadent sauce. These are definitely an indulgence! I also had the cottage cheese pancakes. We left later in the day than I was expecting, so I was already starving and decided to order a burger. It was the best thing I ordered. I'm so glad I was hungry enough to try it. It has very flavorful sauce, is well cooked and has a kick with pickled jalapeños. I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere, but it was pricer than I expected and for the quantity. I recommend trying it out!

Stumbled upon this lovely coffee, tea, pastry shop. TARY is such a delight. They specialize in Kazakh coffee, tea and food. The inside is well decorated, spacious and was packed. I ordered the Kazakh tea which the hostess says comes with millet - I was wary because i usually don't enjoy nutty beverages but this was so good. Not overly sweet. Definitely a must check out when in the city.

Adorable cafe & the inside is one of the best ones I've been to recently. Matcha latte was delicious and the service is very friendly too. Only issue was it took 20 minutes for my latte to be ready. I went around 8:45am on a Saturday morning when it wasn't too busy, but didn't mind. If you're in a pinch I'd keep that in mind! Will definitely be back to try their pancakes and other food!

An interesting place for sure. You walk in and it doesn't smell like a coffee place nor tea. It doesn't have the typical coffee shop vibes. It's very simplistic in its design. One large painting on the back wall. One large quote on the other adjacent wall and that's it. Service was a bit slow. We stood at the counter for about 7 minutes before someone greeted us. They were busy away making the pastries or the coffee. There was about 5 people ahead of us who already ordered and was waiting to get their drinks. About 10 drink options and about 15 food options. I can't tell if it's Japanese inspired or Russian as I was hearing some of the workers speak both. We went with a cappuccino for about 7 dollars and the Latte Irimshik which cost about $8. The latte has espresso blended with steamed milk and onside irimshik. Both were interesting. I preferred the cappuccino actually. All drinks it looks like comes with a little wafer.

I love this coffee spot!! I've been a few times with friends and family and it's always so good!! Last time I went I tried the decaf Tary cappuccino. I really enjoyed the Tary addition to the coffee and thought that it added a nice nutty flavor. My mom and I also split the crepes which were delicious. I'm not normally a huge sweets person for breakfast, but I really enjoyed them. I will definitely be back and will be bringing more people!

Tary Coffee has become one of our favorite coffee spots and #1 in downtown Chicago. The place has this clean, minimalist style with a modern European vibe that makes it super relaxing. We got the Qattama with sour cream, a matcha, and a cappuccino, and everything was spot on. The service was friendly and attentive, and the background music was just right... loud enough to enjoy, but still easy to have a conversation

Was looking for a dessert after dinner and this cafe caught my eye. Most cafes were closed by evening. You can watch them make some of their pasteries by hand. The service is quick. You can do takeout and dine in. They also have breakfast, soup, and main food items, besides the bakery and cafe drinks. Plenty of seating and they'll bring dine in orders to your table. Cute place to study. It seems like their specialities are tart (golden millet) based and irimshik (soft sweet cheese) based. The tary cheesecake was cheesecake with bits of tary with graham cracker crust and a dollop of caramel on the side and some pomegranate seeds. It was like have bits of toasted grains inside cheesecake. I enjoyed the toasted/nuttiness it added. The cheesecake itself wasn't very sweet so the caramel was a nice sweetness to add. The tary sweets included: Zhent - sweet made with millet, cottage cheese, butter and raisins. Crumbly a bit in texture. Very cream forward. Irimshik - soft sweet cheese Kurt - dried cheese balls. The flavor is quite shocking when you're expecting a sweet. It's very tangy and slightly salty. It's dry so it really gets the saliva going. Waffles - thin and rolled like wafer rolls, tasted as expected. Light and crispy. An extra one came with my drink. Cookies (w/ walnuts) - texture similar to shortbread cookie with bits of walnut inside. Shaped like a camel. Pear juice and matcha cloud drink - pear juice was tart, the matcha cloud was light. Together it was a unique flavor. Added a refreshing aspect to the drink. Great place to try new flavors. Their other menu items also look interesting. Would like to try the tary porridge.

Delicious, flavorful, fruity coffee. The best I had while visiting the city! Cute place with lots of tables for working or chatting.

The staff were really welcoming, for an early morning. I got the hot chocolate. Honestly that's exactly what I needed that morning. It had that real Mexican chocolate taste. Thick, creamy, smooth and rich. The cinnamon came through warm but not too strong, plus a little extra on top that hit your nose before the first sip. Sweet and it almost had this slight earthy note too... hard to explain but good. It even had that little design on top, like the ones they do on cappuccinos. Didn't expect that but it was cool. Set in an old warehouse that is now an art gallery event space and restaurant nestled in an older warehouse district in Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago. Beautiful decor and laid out perfectly. The natural wood floors furniture ie tables chairs etc and iron work throughout sets the ambiance for old meets new. It works. The wide spacing between tables makes for a comfortable dining experience. So many folks come in to do their work and dine here. What a super addition to the neighborhood that less than a decade ago was essentially a street that was more a run down semi-truck alley. Great menu with neighborhood favorites leaning toward the old school Italian dishes. Sandwiches, soups, salads, and breakfasts just to name a few are all excellent. The pastries are insane and a must take home deal. I love the American Breakfast. Three eggs your way, thick diced America potatoes, thick cut bacon, and sourdough toast. Accompanied by what I believe to be home made jelly and for sure homemade gardiniera. Caruso's gardiniera actually. Diced into a relish unlike most standard gardiniera it's easier to eat with many dishes. Excellent flavor and just the right kick to it. FYI Dolce Arte also sells a to go line of homemade Caruso products from their gardiniera to past and past sauces and more. Yes, their coffee is really good too. Lavazza products I believe. The service is always on point. Casual but on point. Very friendly staff from diverse backgrounds. Why would you not order a flight to try a variety of drinks all at once? We had the hibiscus lemonade and matcha flight, the mango con crema and banana con crema were the standouts. The staff--at least the person who helped me--didn't feel super welcoming. Not that they were rude, just not particularly warm either. I get it though, because even I get a little irritable when it's hot, so maybe that played a part. What I love the most is that it's Latina-owned, and that's something I truly admire. I always try to support Latino entrepreneurs when they're doing things right, and this place is definitely doing something creative. We ordered two flights--one with coffee and one with matcha. Each flight comes with four small samples, and they were all seasonal fall flavors, which I thought was such a fun and unique idea. It's cool because you get to try different drinks in little cups, almost like a tasting experience. The coffee flight (we got it iced) was amazing--the flavors were bold and had that strong coffee taste I personally love. The matcha flight was also fun, but I would have preferred a stronger matcha flavor in some of them. They also have plenty of milk options--we ordered ours with oat milk and it was delicious. On top of that, they have a pretty wide food menu with bagels, sandwiches, wraps, and more. We tried the tuna sandwich and it was really good, definitely worth recommending. The café has little chairs outside, the vibe inside is cozy, and I loved that they were playing Spanish music. That's something you don't usually find in most coffee shops here, and it gave the place extra personality. The only thing I'm still unsure about is the price. For two flights (coffee + matcha) and the sandwich, the total was around $55. Maybe that's a bit expensive--or maybe it's just the nature of ordering flights, since I had never tried that before. Either way, it was worth it for the experience and the flavors. In short, it's a cute, cozy, and creative spot that's definitely worth checking out--especially if you're into seasonal flavors, want to try something unique, and love supporting Latina-owned businesses in Chicago.
