A tiny walk in donut shop that packs a punch with so many donut options to choose from. I ended up getting chocolate, pistachio and churro donut as well as a red velvet cookie. It was quick to order early in the morning and I took the donuts all the way back to Boston. They were still good the day after, just a little smushed frosting. One man in front of us does food tours and this is his last stop of his tour, so he came to try the specialty donut, the margarita. A couple of colleagues and I were here on business, it was my birthday, and we went out to dinner, but they were no desserts that seemed suitable to celebrate the occasion. I came by around 7am and thought it was closed, because I didn't see anyone inside; they were actually in the back cranking out more donuts. These were one of the fluffiest donuts with unique and indulgent flavors. Most donuts ranged from $3.25-$7, depending on their ingredients and labor. I ordered four, which I'll rank in the order of preference: 1. RASPBERRY LINZER TART: Tastes exactly like a raspberry linzer cookie, but fluffier. Absolutely loved this!! 2. RASPBERRY BLOOD ORANGE JELLY: Loved the flavor of the jelly in this. It's definitely deeper in flavor compared to a normal jelly donut. Also enjoyed how I got an adequate amount of jelly in each bite. 3. BLUEBERRY CAKE: The donut itself tasted like an elevated Dunkin' Donuts blueberry -- less dense and more fluffy. Firecakes is such a fire name. I adore the logo, the colors, and the origin story. If I'm craving a yeast donut, take me straight here. If I'm craving anything else.. probably elsewhere. Overall 3.5stars. Wildflower honey glazed: Tastes like a classic glazed to me, but really near the perfectly glazed classic donut. Just the right amount of fluffiness without compromising that slightly elastic donut chewiness. The glaze is sweet but not too sweet, sticky but not too sticky, and sets but doesn't crumble into white dandruff at the first bite. Valrhona chocolate iced: Decadent chocolate set upon a nicely risen, perfectly chewy donut. There's slightly too much icing for me, but that's just a personal preference. Tahitian vanilla iced: This version didn't quite hit for some reason. The yeast donut itself was just as good, but the vanilla seemed to mask the lovely donut taste rather than accentuate it. I thought the crunchy pearls were fun, but I just don't think they add a lot of value to a donut. Blueberry cake: I believe this blueberry cake donut also had hints of something floral, perhaps rose water or lavender? It wasn't overpowering, but I felt like the blueberry paired with cream cheese topping was sweet upon sweet. I didn't enjoy the cake donut texture, especially when compared to the yeast varieties. Milk and cookies stuffed cookie: Stuffed cookies have never been my thing, and this was no different. It amounted to a mediocre chocolate cookie that was too dense and underbaked surrounding the middle stuffed portion. The stuffing was little more than sweet icing upon already sweet cookie. I would give it 3 stars because the price was sorta high (probably due to the location and uniqueness of the flavors put together) but it wasn't terribly sweet and I think the filling on mine was more on one side of it rather than oozing out from the middle. The coffee didn't speak to me so I went around the corner to a different shop instead. If I'm back in the area I would try it again because there was a lemon filled cookie and another doughnut that was massive and cost 12 bucks that I would want to try. I didn't receive the receipt I requested on the sale screen. The worker was visibly annoyed as more people piled into the tiny shop. I would avoid a trip here as you will certainly be disappointed.
