    So many choices!

The items here that we picked up after lunch were amazing. It was a small store for take out. We picked a horchata donut, a chocolate with white chocolate cookie, and an old fashioned donut. One man in front of us does food tours and this is his last stop of his tour, so he came to try the specialty donut, the margarita. Honestly, I wanted to try so many of the items here, but I had just eaten a heavy lunch and tried to contain my joy. My son says if we lived here, he would come daily. They also sell coffees as well which we did not get.

Firehouse Donuts is a classic, no-frills donuts done right atmosphere. It has that old-school neighborhood feel--simple, welcoming, and focused on goodness. The donuts are fresh, soft, and perfectly sweet. You really can't go wrong with anything here. We ordered the Carrot Cake and Boston Cream, which were delicious. Service was quick and friendly. It's an easy go-to spot when you're craving a solid, satisfying donut.

These doughnuts were absolutely delicious, soft, fresh, and perfectly sweet. Every bite was light and fluffy with just the right amount of glaze. A simple treat done right and totally worth the indulgence.

A couple of colleagues and I were here on business, it was my birthday, and we went out to dinner, but they were no desserts that seemed suitable to celebrate the occasion. One of the guys on the team recommended firecakes because he had been here in the past and thought they were awesome. I'm super glad that I agreed to give it a shot. It's not a sitdown place, it's a place where you grab a doughnut and go for a walk. She had just put out a tray of apple cider donuts, and chocolate frosted. I was super excited because I love a good apple cider donut, especially in the fall. Needless to say it did not disappoint and to be honest, I wish I had ordered two of them. Sadly, I'll be leaving in the morning for a flight so early I can't even get one for breakfast. I have already booked marked this location so I can return on future visits. To anyone looking for an awesome snack, breakfast, or just something awesomely delicious -- this is your place !!

The donuts were stale. The coffee was fine. The lady that helped us was pretty darn abrupt. When we got there (during business hours right before 11am) and there was a sign that they had stepped away. Maybe this is a one man show and that's why she was so unhappy. All in all, not impressed.

Great donuts with a nice selection of flavors! It's a tiny shop but they still have a lot of options to choose from and make delicious donuts, especially for a popular chain. The donuts are fluffy and taste fresh. I went with the valhrona chocolate frosted and the coconut cake donut and both were great! The chocolate frosting is very rich and decadent and not too sweet- yum! The staff member was friendly as well! Love that they are open later than other shops to help satisfy the evening donut craving!

We decided to grab a quick bite and ended up walking to Firecakes Donuts. Even though the shop is small, they still offer a great variety to choose from. Unfortunately, there isn't any seating available inside.

Second stop on donut tour downtown Chicago. I've always been a fan of Firecakes and they are my fav around here. As the tour guide was explaining something about the history of Firecakes cooking donuts over a fire and some family picture on the wall, my mind wandered off to thinking about how awesome these donuts were going to be! Here are my thoughts about this place: 1. Prices range between $3.55-$6.45. 2. Some delicious creative donuts are offered daily. 3. Donuts taste like made with fresh ingredients.

Probably the only dessert I really had in Chicago, but well-worth. I came by around 7am and thought it was closed, because I didn't see anyone inside; they were actually in the back cranking out more donuts. They're open at 6:30 on most days -- great for a morning pick-me-up! The shop itself is rather small, with limited to no seating, so it's really more of a grab-and-go stop. These were one of the fluffiest donuts with unique and indulgent flavors. Most donuts ranged from $3.25-$7, depending on their ingredients and labor. I ordered four, which I'll rank in the order of preference: 1. RASPBERRY LINZER TART: Tastes exactly like a raspberry linzer cookie, but fluffier. Absolutely loved this!! 2. RASPBERRY BLOOD ORANGE JELLY: Loved the flavor of the jelly in this. It's definitely deeper in flavor compared to a normal jelly donut. Also enjoyed how I got an adequate amount of jelly in each bite. 3. BLUEBERRY CAKE: The donut itself tasted like an elevated Dunkin' Donuts blueberry -- less dense and more fluffy. The whipped frosting on top was also very light and airy. 4. PISTACHIO OLD FASHIONED: They're supposed to be famous for the pistachio donut, but I felt like the pistachio flavor wasn't prominent enough. This just tasted like a normal fritter to me. Easily some of the best donuts I've ever had. The texture and quality of ingredients are distinctive features that set these apart from regular donuts. Highly recommend!

Their pistachio old fashioned donuts are out of this world and quite addictive. So happy I got two cause they were so good I couldn't stop at one. Texturally great with the pistachio crunch and the crunchy fried texture of the donut itself. They're topped with this overtly green glaze which brings the pistachio flavor front and center. They had a mix of donuts to choose from so definitely a great choice if you like trying new flavors.

Went on the Chicago walking donut tour. This was the second stop. Since it was a tour we didn't experience the service our guide took care of the samples. The vanilla donut with the vanilla beads were delicious- so apparently they won a competition award for the vanilla frosting. It was light and delicious. The Dulce donut was Caramel flavored and not too sweet. They are opened late so it is a great place for an evening treat as well as breakfast. This is definitely a must try when you are in Chicago. They also do a donut ice cream sandwich- go hungry or with a few friends and share!!

Their to-go window is so cute!

Love their little walk up window, but wish you could see their whole selection for the day. There were some interesting flavors that I believe rotate regularly. I decided to try the cherry almond old fashioned and peach cobbler Bismark. I usually love an old fashioned! But this one had really thick, kind of grainy icing that I didn't love. The peach cobbler had a nice peach cream in the middle but the dough was a little dry. I also got an iced chai latte and that was delicious! I took my order to go but there were 2 sidewalk tables outside. Unfortunately, they didn't have anything for doggos :(

Ask the Community - Firecakes Donuts

Is there a place to sit down inside?

There's an outside seating area but no place inside to sit

    Do they make vegan donuts?

Yes, double chocolate coconut. I personally/typically stray away from coconut; however the chocolate and consistency of the dough itself is amazing. This just has the shavings on top that help balance it all out

    Any vegan options?

Yes, they have a few options which are clearly labeled in the display case when available.

Do they offer any gluten free donuts?

They offer one gluten free/vegan option. Per the website, they are a rotating/seasonal option, so I'd give them a quick call and verify.

Is there still a good selection late at night?

Yeah I think so. They always got my pistachio. Shit is great!

I've been a customer of almost 10 years and have been obsessed since they first opened their doors at a different location. I literally live an hour away without traffic and even longer with traffic, but I make sure to stop by or send someone else to get it for me at least once a month or more. I love the amazing cakes that are so delicious and unique but on top of that, it is Asian owned, LGBTQ supporting, etc. A lot has changed since their little storefront with no seating. The bakery is now a full on cafe and I'm so happy to see how much they've grown and how successful they are. And while it is glorious, I will say I miss the sweet neighborhood charm and great customer service it used to have. Getting in touch with the bakery through phone or text can be tough and to be honest, sometimes one of the people working there is kind of...very mean. It had me questioning if I should keep coming back. I just love this bakery so much though and being raised by parents that had a small food business, I can't help but want to support. I had a particularly difficult last minute request for the bakery a few weeks ago and I was reminded why this place is so great. It had been YEARS since I made this specific request, which was an order for a slice of cake for every flavor and a cupcake for every flavor. This is a BIG and time consuming request, especially if it's last minute. Unfortunately I come to the city whenever the traffic isn't atrocious, so it's always last minute. Dom absolutely pulled through though. Even though there were other employees there (I saw two others but one disappeared and then another male was kind of walking around the cafe and such), Dom took this giant request and fulfilled it himself. The other gentleman (not the mean person previously mentioned) was actually who I made the request to, but he told Dom to do it. I was kind of confused why they didn't do it together but idk, maybe the other guy isn't allowed to handle food? Who knows. Regardless, this request obviously took a long time and the line was getting longer; people were getting a little restless but Dom stayed calm but was swift. I swear he was moving faster than most people in the industry could with a cake knife like that. He was not impatient or rude to me at all. He was just there to do his job as fast and well as possible. It's so rare to see that type of work ethic. He is also so obviously proud of the bakery and the food they serve which makes you feel good about being a patron there. So although I continue to have an unpleasant experience with one particular employee there, Dom keeps my love for this bakery alive. He reminds me of what this bakery was like when they first opened their doors. I hope Dom is cherished there and I bet he is considering his work ethic. I will continue to support this bakery and I recommend everyone else to support as well. It may not be that small little shop anymore but Dom is a reminder of the heart of the place.

I was lucky enough to snag a parking spot from someone pulling out right in front, and I was even happier to skip the line and walk straight in to pick up my order. Order ahead--it is absolutely the move. The drinks aren't sitting around waiting for pickup either. It seemed like they were making my matcha latte right as I arrived, which I appreciated. The star of the show was the huckleberry pastry--absolutely worth the hype. The longanisa breakfast sandwich was delicious but very substantial. For us, one sandwich was the perfect amount to share among three people; I think it would feel pretty heavy as a solo breakfast. The apple hand pie was one of the best I've had, and even the simple cookie was surprisingly delicious. We also tried a blueberry muffin, which was solid as well. The restaurant itself is cute, the space is clean, and the restrooms were spotless. Would I go back? Absolutely. But next time I'll definitely follow the pro tip and order ahead.

Showed up on a Friday morning at 730, was third in line, and waited 90 minutes. By 8am that line was already down to the end of the block. Just take my advice on this. My favorite thing about this place was how they let people in. One party at a time. Makes the atmosphere and ambiance inside feel more cozy and warm with none of that viral sensation nonsense. Best part is, when I finally ordered, the guy at the counter was super chill. Let me ask a few questions, was patient and kind. None of that viral sensation snobbery that comes with these kinds of places. Food time. The truffle croissant was unlike any other croissant I ever had. Despite the truffle it was also kind of sweet, I don't know it just works. Not hype at all. Our sticky bun had dimensions of deep burnt caramel flavor. Flavors kept unfolding with every chew. We are lumpia addicts so we had to try these. Absolutely delicious, but at over 10 bucks, anyone that knows lumpia knows you can get a dozen for like 5 bucks at strip mall type joints. And now for the main event. The breakfast sandwich with sausage, hash brown, and extra cheese was truly exceptional. It was textural bliss combined with the flavor bomb from the Filipino sausage. Would I wait 90 minutes again for another one, probably not. But I'm glad I did it just the same.

I was skeptical at first because it is a local chain, rather than a singular location. However, it lived up to the hype. Service: it was extremely busy when we came in. The line was almost out the door. They have a system in place for ordering and seating so it worked well and fast given how busy they were. We didn't have any questions on where to order or where to stand when waiting for a seat. The staff were friendly and helped us find a spot to sit at. Ambiance: classic cafe in a city. Loud chatter, but it's a vibe. Very colorful and fun interior with cool textural elements. We had a seat that was facing the street so it was fun to people watch as we sipped and ate. Food: amazing breakfast selection! We ordered the morning sandwich and barbacoa bowl. The morning sandwich had THICK scrambled eggs which were super soft and tasty. I could've used more salsa verde on it. The bread was barely toasted. I'd rate the sandwich a 3.8/5. It got the job done. The barbacoa bowl was "really good" according to my fiancé. A great source of protein, fresh ingredients, nice flavor, and great portions. He would rate it a 5/5. Coffee: I am a coffee snob so I am quite harsh when it comes to reviewing it. Their machine is a cute La Marzocco. Appropriate sized "for-here" glasses according to the drinks. Plus, they were really cute. Wide variety of drink selection from your standards to the more girly-drinks (if there is such a thing). We ordered a cappuccino and small hot mocha. Latte art 4.5/5, temperature 5/5, flavor 4/5. The espresso didn't stand out to me, very standard flavor profile. However, the chocolate in the mocha was delicious. It's more of a rich, dark chocolate. Nice thin layer of foam. It was a pleasant atmosphere and cute decor, but I ended up taking my goods to go. It was hard to decide between all the enticing options but the friendly woman working the register pointed me to their popular chocolate cake and it did not disappoint! More of a mousse than a cake but it was rich and utterly divine. I also tried their spinach feta croissant, which was ok but I'm not convinced the right vessel for that filling. I also appreciated some of their baked goods were reasonable prices so you could easily try something for under $5 or alternatively splurge for the finer pastries.

First visit here, I got some yummy desserts to take home. We grabbed cheesecake, peanut butter…read moretart, chocolate cake and some French Macarons. All desserts were delicious. My French Macarons were even good several days later. On the first occasion the attendant had already put stuff up and was rushing us to close. Even though we got there wit more than 30 minutes before closing time. We tried to come back a few days later as I really wanted that vanilla bean cheesecake again but they were closed. It was closed 30min prior to time advertised on website. We were bummed. While searching for nearby bakeries, we saw several other people try to patronize this business. So overall probably a 4 stars but knocking a star for not advertising the correct hours. Luckily we were already in the area but I would have been mad if made a venture up here and it was closed. I wouldn't bank on this for an after dinner treat. Get your stuff during the day as the hours are not dependable.
