It's a croissant and a doughnut all in one with a divine custard filling - life is good. Hands down BEST CHOCOLATE FROSTING!!! I hadn't had a stans donut for 15 years, so when we happened to be back in the city and stumbled upon one we had to go in and it did not disappoint The interior aesthetics are so vintage and cute. Their donut selection was still very full at 1pm on a Saturday which was impressive! I tried to go twice after 5pm and they were completely sold out both times, so if you're planning on going, definitely get there before the after-work rush. It ended up being well worth the wait though. There are so many options I just stood there staring for a while, and the staff was super chill about it. Also, all their name tags say "Stan," which is kinda cute but now I'm very curious who the real Stan is. The Biscoff doughnut was sooo good, sweet but not overly sweet (and I have a sweet tooth, so take that as you will). I also tried the minis to sample a few flavors, but they were a little dry, so I'd probably skip those and just commit to a full doughnut. read more

Stan's Donuts is by far my favorite donut spot -- no questions asked. I could honestly list half the menu as my favorites. The Nutella Pocket? Amazing. The Nutella & Banana? Perfect combo. The Toffee Cake is my personal obsession. The PJ Pocket is incredible. Even their "basic" flavors, like the Red Velvet, are next‑level. And don't even get me started on the croissant donut... unreal. Service is always great, though there's usually a line -- but honestly, that's just proof everyone else loves it as much as I do. The shop itself is super cute, too, which makes the whole experience even better. I love them all. Truly one of the best donut spots around. read more

I think this might be the first Stan's of the franchise that opened in Chicago. It's a pretty small space but workers are attentive and fast. I got the croissant donut and hot mocha and they were delicious. The croissant donut had a crème filling that I was not expecting but it was still good. I got the croissant donut, it's filled with custard. It wasnt overly sweet which i prefer. Flavor wasnt anything special. Texture was soft n chewy though i think i prefer a cake donut texture. Staff were kind, good seating along the window and wifi (i worked on my laptop for awhile). read more

Hmm... coffee was absolutely horrendous, I've had decent coffee from Stan's before so I don't know if it's this location or what. Tasted bitter and burnt and DISGUSTING, maybe even sour? I came in on a Monday morning after grabbing coffee elsewhere so I just wanted a donut. There was one or two people inside when I arrived and I ordered at the counter. I'm a huge Biscoff fan so when I saw that one in the display case I had to get it! It was good! Not the most amazing donut I've ever tasted but solid. The outside glaze was good and the inside had some Biscoff but not a ton of it. I had about one third of the donut when I arrived. I sat at one of a handful of inside tables and also used the restroom when I was there. The service was friendly and quick. I would visit again on another Chicago trip. read more

I have eaten there twice and it was dirty both times. The food took very long after ordering even without the business of commuters. Upon my third attempt I entered the line and waited my turn to order although the person did not greet me. I began to order and halfway through I was interrupted and he said "I'm going to check on the people on the side to see if they would like to order". I assumed they were waiting for an order so I was shocked and said "Oh excuse me". I am a WOC. The NON-WOC who entered behind me was taken to the register next to the one I originally was ordering from and the person took her order before me. I stared at them both at which time she said "THANK YOU" adamantly. I felt it was her gesture to signal her thanks for serving her before me. I left and have since informed my family and friends of this treatment. Not only was I mistreated but honestly it's over rated. read more

--Location/Parking-- The location I went to is near the Damien stop on the Blue Line. There is NO parking lot that I can see, but the location is convenient to the Blue Line. --Ambience-- The interior reminds me of a cross between a 50s bakery which the mixer adoring the walls and a big family style table space in the middle. You get the feeling in the back they make their own donuts. There are plenty of tables along the side to chill and relax and the napkin holders display the Wi-Fi instructions. There are two restrooms to choose from and two doors to enter and exit from so it does not feel very claustrophobic. The restroom was clean and had pink signage and the lighting was a nice pink ambience. Upbeat relaxing music can be heard playing throughout the bakery. --Service/Staff-- I came on a Sunday afternoon and there were two employees. One was taking the donut order and the other was taking the coffee/hot items. They were friendly, but it was confusing why they need two employees when I was the only person in line ordering. --Food/Products-- I ordered three items. One was the PB& J donut, which was a freshly baked heaven coated peanut butter on the outside and a jelly filling on the inside. The other item I order was a pretzel bun, egg, bacon, and cheese were a disappointment because the egg was bland, but fluffy and the pretzel bun which they reheated and slightly burned was hard. The last item I order was an espresso, nothing special, just a typical espresso. --Capacity-- There are plenty of tables, maybe 8 or 10 tables, a countertop. Plenty of space, when I came in, I saw at least three people lounging around surfing the internet, talking, and enjoying their food. --Overall-- I will be back to try their other donuts. The location makes it easy since it is right off Damien on the Blue Line. I would probably avoid their "hot" items, since I was disappointed with the pretzel bun, but it could be an old item. read more

They serve up an impressive selection of scratch donuts. Old fashion, cake, to vegan and gluten-free options. My favorite is the Pistachio old fashioned. The coffee is great too, sourced locally. I walked in for my birthday, having heard I could get a free box of doughnuts, but I hadn't set up rewards and therefore couldn't claim them. A bit disheartened, I ordered a box of doughnuts anyway. The worker Brian made sure to wish me a happy birthday and made my day feel special anyway! He had a lovely demeanor and told me about neighborhood deals. He explained how the assorted box worked and was very patient with me. Every doughnut was great. My favorite doughnut was the Lemon Pistachio. Wonderful cakey texture with a tasty, smooth glaze. True story, I actually know Stan Berman! His daughter Leslie, a good friend of mine, recently sent me a box of Stan's donuts to our house and that's when I realized the connection! I just happened to be in Chicago and got to stop into this store. I ordered the birthday cake donut (my favorite from the assortment she sent us) and some coffee. They were both great! I have to say being at a Stan's for the first time was super fun. His legacy started in LA (closer to me) and was brought to Chicago by his partner. Stan is long since retired (I believe he is now 93). I have never experienced Stan's before today and it is truly an awesome donut shop! Definitely give'em a try! read more

I've always loved this place. The donuts and coffee and drinks are incredible. I came in Saturday around noon. I ordered a banana mocha and they gave me an ice one, but I wanted a warm one. Literally no big deal. I wasn't bothered by this. I let them know, and the one lady was clearly bothered by it because she said OK in a very loud frustrated way. Then she went over to her coworker and mockingly said how I wanted a warm one and not an ice one. I don't know where the mistake happened. I'm 99% sure nobody asked me if I wanted hot or cold and they just assumed which again, no big deal. I expressed zero frustration about this and simply just let them know that I wanted a warm one.. I wasn't even bothered. But they were bothered that they made it wrong and didn't ask me I guess. At the end when I got the correct drink, I said thank you and the girl didn't even look or acknowledge me and said nothing. Extremely rude customer service. And I never leave bad reviews. Like I said. This whole experience was just an easy-going mistake and I was made to feel uncomfortable about it. The situation just really caught me off guard. I gave two stars even though I really want to give one star because the donuts are great and I've never had a bad experience besides this time. read more

I finally got to try Stan's because we had friends in town! It was so cute and in such a great area in Wicker, you can easily grab coffee/donuts and walk around and shop or sit in Wicker Park. The red velvet donut was SO good and their cold brew was great. I love that they have dairy alternatives like oat/almond milk too. This is one of the busiest Stan's Donuts location near the Blue line Damen stop and my favorite dance studio, Mazi -- I just happened to visit it when it was empty... A colorful, fun location to be in, where you can have solid donuts with good coffee (I usually go for the cold brew)! They change the specialty donuts from time to time, but I do love their lemon pistachio old-fashioned which is always available (unless they are sold out). The shop is bright, cute and classic with its neutral and pink decor. I was enamored with the space itself as I was chatted up by a regular in the window seating area. I went with a simple, glazed variety while others snagged, sugary, topping and filling-ladened goods. This is a large, light and fluffy doughnut, no grease and lightly glazed, a great balance. No, I didn't go to Illinois. Better: I recently heard about a website called Goldbelly where you can pay waaaaaay more than a product is worth add a taste of gold in your belly. Feeling travel deprived courtesy of COVID, I went for it. Yes, the variety pack of 12 donut cookies I ordered were way overpriced (about $4.20 ea.), but it was quite tasty. They were more cookie than donut (shaped like a donut but tastes like a chewy cookie), but they were quite good indeed! I'm not sure how often I will splurge like this, but if any of you want to drop some gold into your belly (they had a 4 pack of cheesesteaks that looked good at a meager $25 ea. In my opinion, Stan's has the best doughnuts in Chicago! ... and I think you'll agree with me. Pro tip: they are made fresh in the morning! There are far lass choices by the time afternoon comes around, so come early! My favorite was the Red Velvet doughnut, but the classic glazed was delicious as well! They really balance the flavor combinations really well, especially with the ghostly trio! Despite how busy it gets, the service is surprisingly quick, and somehow every drink still comes out consistently great. I honestly don't know how they manage it.

I have had that in several cold brews at several different well established coffee shops in Chicago and it's delicious when you need a sugar boost. The barista did it but he also shared it didn't make sense. It was uncomfortable. But I didn't let that mar my experience. I still have continued to order my beverage with that barista. Also they have a great mural in the back.

The weather conditions weren't great as it was raining moderately. This probably deterred at least some people from lining up. I got there around 12 PM and waited for about an hour, which is still long, but not as horrific as I thought. I also ended up with the last breakfast sandwich ticket since the group in front of me decided it wasn't worth it to wait in line so they gave it to me. This basically was the sign for me to stay in line. The ordering process was pretty simple. We ordered at the counter and prayed that there would be seats opened. Initially, we made ourselves comfortable at the bar, but we were able to migrate to a table shortly after. Our drinks came out within a few minutes after ordering and our food came out within 10. 12 OZ OH, HOT YAM! - 6.85 Initially, this was the drink I ordered. However, I thought it was too sweet and didn't feel like the ube flavor was that strong. My friend liked it more than the drink she ordered, so we ended up swapping. ICED BLACK SESAME LATTE - 6.85 This was the drink I swapped for, and the iced version was perfectly refreshing and nutty. It also wasn't too sweet. I would prefer a roastier black sesame flavor, but this was good enough. LONGANISA, EGG, AND CHEESE SANDWICH - 12 The breakfast sandwich didn't love like it'd be anything special, but the bun was incredibly soft and fluffy, with a custard, soft egg. The longanisa was well-seasoned, with the sweet & savory flavors bursting after each bite. I can see why the breakfast sandwiches at Kasama are so popular. Would highly recommend if you're able to snatch one. PORK BELLY ADOBO - 19.50 This item is weekend only, so I had to try it! I also love a good adobo rice. Despite it being pork belly, it was surprisingly not too heavy or fatty. The poached egg mixed in made each bite creamier. The pickled vegetables and chopped scallions were a nice touch to add a bit of tang and aromatics. I did take home half of the rice bowl home to enjoy for breakfast the next day. While this was good, it was probably the weakest of the three food items we ordered. FILIPINO BREAKFAST - 19 +1 for combo (longanisa and tocino) My friend ordered this, which came with a serving each of longanisa and tocino, a bed of garlic rice, sunny side up egg, pickled vegetables, and garnish. I had a bit of both meats, and the tocino was definitely my favorite. It was juicy, a good mix of sweet and savory -- reminded me of the Cantonese BBQ pork belly. I would definitely order something with tocino upon future visit. This was a pricy lunch, but the food was good and tasted cleaner than I had expect. I had a great time trying brunch at Kasama and would love to visit for their dinner menu when I'm in Chicago again.

The caviar was delicious, although the design of the small bowl and big bowl made it very annoying if any of your caviar came out you'd have to lift the small bowl out to scrape it. The next seafood platter had fresh shrimp and the toast was excellent with the sour cream. Tasted like a potato chip! The spring roll was unique and required you to roll it up. It's small but packs a good punch. The cabbage with Wagyu barely had any meat, so it was just a bite. The soup was very delicious and hot in temperature. The mackerel is small but fresh. Very good soup. The pancake dish was very unique and enjoyable with the pork. My favorite was the crumb dish with mushrooms. The crumbs were delicious. There were a few small oysters in it. If there were a few chicken bites it would have been perfect. The ending bird dish was tiny. I expected the whole bird to be cooked and many more pieces, but it included two bites and one leg with mushrooms. I thought one or two additional protein dishes were needed. I was at 60% full at that point and it went straight to desserts. The croissant with truffle was delicious with honey. Could have eaten 6 of those. The banana pudding really felt like delicious street food. The frozen shaved ice was delicious with the chocolate underneath. The white chocolate dessert and cracker were light with guava. It felt like the meal heavily overindexed on dessert and not actual entrees. Overall, for 1 star and $200 range I would have given this 9.5/10. But for 2 stars and $325, with a comparison with Alinea and other 2 star restaurants I've been to, this fell short. Increase the food portions and decease the dessert volume. The staff are highly attentive and well trained. Dinner took 2.5 hours.

Garlic Cheese Brioche Bun蒜香奶酪麵包: Perhaps its more Taiwanese name is "八蒜包" (Eight Garlic Bun). Its appearance and taste were very similar to those I've had at Taiwanese bakeries in mainland China.
