Decided to explore downtown Chicago this weekend and wanted to grab a little snack to enjoy on my walk. That's when I stumbled upon Do-Rite Donuts & Chicken! I arrived around 9:30 AM, and their most popular donuts were already almost sold out. That's always a good sign! I ended up getting a cruller and a strawberry-frosted donut. I tried to practice a little self-control by eating only half of each and saving the rest for later, but that plan quickly went out the window. They were just too good to resist! Later in the day, I told my friend she needed to check this place out for their donuts, only for her to tell me that it's her go-to spot every Sunday. Clearly, she's been in on this little gem for a while! While paying for my donuts, I also noticed they serve chicken, which gives me another reason to come back. I can't wait to try some more of their donuts and eventually venture into their chicken sandwiches. My wife is gluten-free and always does research on where she can find gluten-free food in the cities we travel to and she was so excited when she learned that Do-Rite Donuts and Chicken had gluten-free donuts! We walked to this location and it was busy! It's a walk-in location but they have a few stools inside and tables outside to enjoy your food. In addition to donuts, as the name suggests they also have a variety of chicken tenders and sandwiches, but at 9:30 in the morning, it was a little early for me to enjoy chicken, but I'm sure it's delicious! It was hard to choose what donut to eat because they all looked delicious, but I settled on the apple fritter and my wife had the gluten-free sprinkle one and it was so good, she ordered a second to go. I went here to pickup an order as we were on a time crunch, so we tried to place an order ahead of time, only to arrive 5 min before to have it canceled, which is why I docked off a star. However, they make the food fast, within 5 minutes, even when busy. We got the old fashioned donut, the Vera Cruz egg breakfast sandwich, and spicy fried chicken sandwich. Came to Do-Rite for breakfast one morning and had a great time. We got there around 9am and seemed to beat the line, but a lot of people showed up right after us so you may want to come early. I saw glowing review after glowing review, so I decided to make my way out to a Do-Rite after landing in the early morning in Chicago. Pulled up just before 6:30 AM on a weekday and there were just a few folks ahead of us in line, but service is quick. Cake donuts were actually pretty solid here; the Blueberry Cake Donut was the best item, super soft and moist with a good amount of berries throughout. The Pistachio Cake Donut for some reason was texturally firmer and drier than the other. Unfortunately, the fried donuts were all misses. The dough was just really dense and none of the toppings really hit. The Glazed Donut just made me sad that the dough was bad and the bacon on the Maple Bacon Donut wasn't crispy, so you got a cold, chewy, greasy bite that wasn't super pleasant. The chopped dough pieces in the Apple Fritter were also oddly firm instead of soft. For a place with rave reviews, I was pretty bummed by the donuts, but maybe the fried chicken sandwich is where it's at. read more

Walked in and immediately greeted with the smell of donuts, yum! We asked for donut recs and got one of each of their most famous flavors: vanilla bean glazed and old fashioned. Both were delish! The glazed donut was fluffy, sweet and my fave. My husband loved his old fashioned donut! He said it was crunchy yet moist. We also both got the Hot N' Spicy chicken sandwich which was so good!! First time here as we were visiting from Michigan (we don't have these in GR). My kids both opted for the sprinkle donuts, hubby got the maple bacon and I got the old fashioned chocolate. I was impressed with how quickly we could get in and out. They had tables outside but they were half full and the open tables were dirty and wet so we took the donuts down the street and got coffee at Starbucks and ate at the tables outside. When you walk into the store, the first thing you see is this wall of awards and recognitions for basically everything they sell. After seeing that I figured I might as well try a bit of everything. Safe to say that those awards were right, pretty much everything that had here tasted great. The egg sandwich with bacon was a hit, the coffee was on the sweeter side, but I do like that in coffee, and the donuts were also hefty. In particular, the apple fritter and old fashioned stood out to me. The apple fritter was nice and crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. It also had little apple bits on the inside that really added to the sweet taste. The old fashioned was really the highlight, just a great balance of soft interior, and hard glazed exterior. The donut was actually so soft that when I picked it up, half of it broke off and fell on the floor. Great little diner-like restaurant hard-by the Northwestern Hospital complex ... in fact, they offer free delivery to all the Northwestern Hospital buildings in the area. They have a nice selection of sandwiches and neat variety of do-nuts. Open late for the dinner set, but most of the business is in the morning ... when the lines can be long. Limited seating inside, and just a bit more outside. On our trip we had the Avocado Sandwich, an old-fashioned buttermilk do-nut, and two OJs ... all very nice. I'd say the do-nut (4 stars) took the prize and it shows that's where they started; the Avocado Sandwich was 3 star good though. Service was excellent with a young perky staff. If I could give this 3.5 stars, I would. The service is great: friendly, cheerful, and helpful. Egg sandwich was tasty - the egg custardy and cheese was melting in your mouth. Donuts were all very good, and there was a nice variety, which I enjoyed picking different flavors. There's also a good variety of vegan and gluten-free flavors. My biggest downside was the chicken sandwich. The chicken was so dry. The flavor was just kinda meh, even though it was a spicy sandwich. We did go there at 1:30pm on a Saturday, so it might have been just an older piece of chicken, as it wasn't super busy. Overall, pretty good option for donuts and cheaper egg sandwiches. This shop is situated at a food court in sky deck building. Service was great and friendly; had a long line but it went through quickly. Donuts: 5/5 Pistachio and baked orange were delicious to each their own but pistachio one was our fav! The texture was dense and packed but my, flavors were so delicious and weren't too sweet. You really can't go wrong with Do-Rite Donuts & Chicken! No matter what location I visit the donuts are always consistently delicious. This was my first time visiting this location and the service at this location is top tier. During my visit The manager was actively training someone on the cash register so service was a little slow but both of the women were very friendly. I loved that they took a few minutes to chat with everyone and make us all smile. During this visit I decided the try the breakfast sandwich. The sandwich was much larger than I expected. I ordered the turkey sausage and egg sandwich. Overall, the sandwich was tasty and I easily got two meals from the sandwich. The inside of the donut shop is a little tight. They have a ton of seating inside but they have a row of stools right next to the cash register. When the line got long there wasn't a lot of space to move away from the cash register without feeling like you had to push into the people sitting down eating their food. They do have a lot of space outside so I highly recommend dining outside or taking your food to go! read more

Stopped here and grabbed a half dozen for breakfast this morning. It smelled of freshly made donuts and sweet sugar air filled the building. I was salivating just walking through the door. We had to try the cake like and old fashioned donuts since the yeast style are our least favorite. The service here was so nice which is the main reason this place gets 4 stars. I got their Boston cream (3/5), apple fritter (3/5), old fashioned (4/5), and the sweet & spicy crispy chicken sandwich (2.5/5). The Boston cream wasn't sweet at all. The chocolate glaze on top was good but I couldn't really taste the custard. The old fashioned was solid but didn't really stand out to me. The chicken sandwich wasn't crispy unfortunately and was probably just sitting out for a while getting soggy. The flavor was fine but I wouldn't consider this to be sweet or spicy. First time visiting Do-Rite Donuts and they have some great donuts. I visited later in the day so they didn't have a full selection but there were quite a few donuts to choose. The location I went to, I passed it while looking for it but found it when I turned around and walked back. This location is small with counter seating and just a couple of indoor tables. VooDoo Donuts is nearby, but I feel like this place has more of an old-time vibe while still offering donuts with innovative flavor combinations. it is not about the gimmick, but about the quality. Their cake donuts are most popular, but I also enjoyed their apple fritter and a "non-fried" donut (which is more or less like a muffin top). You may have to wait in line a bit because it is popular, but you'll be happy with the donuts. It doesn't quite reach destination status, tho. I was staying a block away from Do-Rite Donuts & Chicken and even though my hotel offered continental breakfast, I wanted to pick up a selection of donuts to try. I ended up getting a half dozen consisting of a maple bacon, French cruller, buttermilk old fashioned, cheese danish, carrot cake, and a Michigan apple fritter. Especially considering the price ($21 after tax with a dollar up charge for the maple bacon), I'm not impressed. I am absolutely in love with this place! My boyfriend found this place on the gluten free restaurants list, so we had to try it. This location was right down the street from our hotel. The first donut I tried was plain with white icing. It was thick and The dough was so soft and moist. The icing and sprinkles were great. It did not taste gluten free at all. It was so good the next day I had to stop by to try the other 2 flavors. All three flavors were great. The staff was super friendly. I recommend this spot to any gluten free eaters.
